I've practiced martial arts (Karate, Taekwondo, and Wushu) for about a total of 10 years, so i've been around several different schools and Masters and Sifus. Sifu Shannon Moore teaches traditional, practical, and sport aspects of Wing Chun. Very knowledgeable and experienced as one would know from just listening and conversing with him. Sifu Shannon Moore takes great pride in providing hands on training and development with his students as opposed to some other schools i have been to where the senior students primarily teach. You may ask... well what the heck is this Wing Chun mumbo jumbo. How is it any different from other martial art styles that also teach self-defense? Wing Chun is an amazing and beautiful kung fu style different from many of today's popular styles, such as Karate, Taekwondo, and Shaolin kung fu. While these styles may focus on blocking first and then attacking, Wing Chun teaches well-coordinated angular defense and simultaneous attack, operating on the center line, not drawing back (windup) before striking; instead striking from any position. This both increases the speed and eliminates the telegraphing of the strike. Using structure of the entire body to create power in a small space. This way, in the time it takes a student of another style to throw one or two punches, a Wing Chun student will throw at least nine. This system relies on biomechanics, not brute force and is a scientific yet theoretically based martial arts style focusing on close-range combat. Wing Chun is based on the concepts and principles of simplicity, economy of movement, and economy of energy. This art is a true internal and external system designed so you can learn the system in 3-5 years. It is a science in motion that is simple yet explosive. Bear in mind, i said learn the system in 3-5 years. Mastering is a whole other story. =) Anyone who is interested the martial arts, especially Wing Chun, should definitely come check it out. Sifu Shannon Moore even offers a FREE first introductory class so anyone interested can get their feet wet. I came, i tried, and now i'm hooked. Check it out for yourself! Keep that Wu Sao up! You'll learn what that means, one way or another. =)

It is easy to fall in love with Wing Chun, and I highly recommend it and the instructor to give you a fuller understanding in your martial arts journey. As Master Moore would say, "Keep your Wu Sao up"...

This school is very family oriented and maintains an educational yet fun environment. The pricing here is very fair for the classes as well as their branded merchandise. The class schedule is also very easy to follow. The daily class schedule for each level of students is different for every day of the week. However, this schedule is the same every week. Once you input the dates into your calendar you can put them on repeat and you'll never miss a beat. The belt testing here is also done well in my opinion. The testing dates are announced well in advance and I've also seen them posted throughout the Dojo. As long as the students attend, participate and learn the different blocks, punches, etc then they should pass their tests each time. My son has moved up to the next belt each time he has a belt test. The new location is really cool too! They now have two floors which allows them to accommodate more classes as well. I really am glad that my son attends Okinawan Karate Dojo! I'm lookong forward to him earning his black belt here one day.

Although the kids were not able to get to the pool this year, the camp was able to make up for the temporary change. The price was reasonable and manageable. Overall, the Okinawa Dojo summer camp program met and exceeded expectations by providing my little family member with a fun, healthy and safe environment.

I'm very pleased to see that he finally was able to open his own independent dojo to celebrate traditional Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate, as well as the rich cultures that Okinawa brings. The Cultural Center has many artifacts in a museum style in a side room. There's also many people from the community like the DC Okinawan Kai who utilizes the space. It is a safe and welcoming space for not just Okinawan people, but those interested in learning more about the culture and tradition. This spacious dojo has two kicking/punching bags ready for training, many talented instructors, and classes for children and adult alike! I am excited for what's to come for this OKCC! During that time, he hosted some of the Okinawan masters at his dojo, which is how we met. Those were great classes, and when it was time for me to find a new dojo, I joined Master Folta at his new location. It's a fine space, and the training there is authentic and excellent. Master Folta is kind and genuine, while also encouraging everyone to reach for the highest standards. His careful eye has improved my karate in many ways, large and small. I was careful in my choice of schools, and picked the best one in the area. I've seen his students, both kids and adults, get better over time and stay with the program. If you're serious about learning karate that works, this is the place I recommend. There is a lot to learn, and this is the real deal.

The first time we met her, she was friendly and nice. She was my kid's instructor for their private class. She was engaging, funny, and patient. She taught them karate skills such as blocks, kicks, and strikes. She's very detailed oriented. She discussed with them the importance of martial arts, listening, and self-confidence. After a few weeks, my kids got their first karate (white) belt. The school is clean and spacious. They follow covid-19 protocols. They have a sign on the door that everyone has to wear a mask. They check the temperature and provide hand sanitizer. They offer in-person and zoom classes. Students have the option to attend the zoom karate class if they missed the in-person class. They teach karate to all ages. Prices vary depending on their age. We saw Mr. Teague (owner) teach in-person and virtual classes. I think my kids have to earn the next level to be in his class. I highly recommend this karate school to anyone interested.

I should start by saying that I spent 23 years with the same dojo and Sensei back in my home state…read moreso it's taken me 5 years to find a place that I could let my bias go a bit and give it a shot. I have three kids (12, 9, 6) and I really want them to experience the benefits that martial arts gave me. We discovered Master Sies and his karate school through a demonstration at my kid's International night. I could immediately tell that Master Sies's students were getting quality instruction and having fun. We agreed to go check out the studio. That was about a year and a half ago probably and my kids have been members of the school ever since. They all love it and are really benefiting from the art. The karate instructors there are amazing. Every single one of them are absolutely meant to help kids learn the art of karate. They are funny, happy, compassionate and more importantly good at teaching. It starts at the top because Master Sies is very impressive. Not only does he have the pedigree to boot (7-time world kickboxing champ) but he is also a wonderful instructor that really empowers kids to keep going. The school has class options 7 days a week so there's an option for every busy family out there. The instruction is perfect for all kids and the benefits of karate are unparalleled. You have to see your child's smile and confidence grow after their first belt-test and they break their very first board. If you live within driving distance to Olney I would make this a karate school to check out if you are considering getting your kids involved. I literally spent the first four years we lived here visiting different karate schools. I took numerous classes and met many of the area's karate instructors. I was extremely picky obviously (for good reason though) but I think my patience worked out. Ultimately, this was about getting my kids into karate and in a studio that I would be proud of, and I found it in Master Method. I even joined for a little while but my many years of sports injuries proved to be too much for me. That being said, this also is a good studio for adults to learn the art. Plus they even have amazing kick boxing and Zumba classes for parents that just have fitness goals they are looking to achieve. Side note: Olney is a nice area so it makes the trips worthwhile. Lots of stores and restaurants but with more of smaller town feeling.
