Kangs has been amazing! My 7 year old started a few months ago with the Kid Tigers and immediately fell in love. He's always so excited to go to class and even though he has to rush to get his homework done after school and before we leave he does it without any issues. The instructors are wonderful with the kids and I like that they are always fair but firm. If someone is being distracting they get them back in line in the most caring yet direct way. They're also all trained black belts so their knowledge is far and wide. The best part is that I think it's actually helped my son listen and behave better at school! We've enjoyed it so much that my other son who is 5 just started as well. I can't say enough good things about Kangs and everyone who works there. Coaches and staff are very supportive of the kids that train here. They have a lot of options for training and summer camps, and regularly host special events open to the community. My daughter started training virtually during the pandemic. Kang's was one of the few places that was offering live classes and not just follow along videos. She was so nervous at first that she wouldn't turn on her camera. Now she is in their Leadership Club and even assisting with some of the younger classes. She is also on the Demo Team which competes in tournaments and performs at local events. Training and being on stage has helped her confidence and self-discipline. She actually wants to practice at home and is motivated to improve. Kang's is very family friendly and they welcome parents to train alongside their kids. So the adult classes are robust and span all levels, from beginner to black belt. After years of watching, we finally got on the mat this month! And, of course, the coaches and staff were just as amazing with us. Everyone was encouraging and supportive. It was nowhere near as awkward or uncomfortable as we thought it would be. This studio is owned and run by a local family who trained with another Kang's school before opening their own. They still have strong ties and big love for the Olney community. On the first day of school they stopped by all the elementary schools to deliver boxes of supplies collected by the Kang's students, and even coffee and donuts for the teachers. They have special events throughout the year, too. Parent's night out is amazing! And way cheaper than any babysitter. My daughter went to sleep away camp this year for the first time and is still raving about it. She's already planning her packing list for next year! We've also had great experiences with their day camp program, too. They have weekly themed science and art projects, team activities, and of course martial arts training. Kids get to show off their skills in a weekly demonstration, complete with board breaking. We love Kang's! We have found the Lil' Dragon class to be wonderful - the instructors keep the kids engaged and encouraged. My 3 (almost 4) year old son asks every day if it's Tae Kwon Do day, so it's clear he likes it - even if sometimes when he gets there he's not sure if he wants to go on the mat, and even then the instructors are compassionate and encouraging. The classes are structured really well, and of course he always looks forward to the games and share toys at the end. The changes I've seen in my son are that he is more independent and confident, a better listener, and I noticed a competitive side to him as well! We are really happy we found Kang's. Also, the business itself is run really well - very communicative, proactive, and creative. They have great events for their younger students and always seem to have it together as a team. read more

I am so impressed with how Kang's has adapted to the quarantine. Their Virtual Classes are AMAZING!! I even join sometimes with my son and we have a blast together while we get a great workout. They have warm-up videos you watch before the class starts so they can spend more time instructing (unless it's the classes for littler kids that need more direction then they do warm up during class). The classes are live and the instructor can see the kids and correct their form. I am shocked at how much my son is learning virtually. But that's not all - They have competitions like their Virtual Galactic Tournament where they encouraged all the kids to enter and they were incredibly supportive. I couldn't believe they got my shy son to enter the competition, and he ended up making it to the Championships! They also have a Workout of the Day and Chore of the day where the kids get new workouts and a chore every day where they can earn points to get prizes - highly motivating! They also play a lot of games and truly make learning fun. They are always changing things up and making it interesting. I am so happy to have found them. They are such wonderful, kind, talented people and they have welcomed us in. We moved to Olney last summer and found a booth for Kang's a couple of days in. My youngest (6) did karate a bit back in NY, and I thought it would be a good thing for my oldest (9) to get involved in as well. It couldn't have been easier to get set up. They got a free class to check things out, and an into package to try it for a few months. Both have stuck with it, and are now advancing in belts and going to classes twice a week. There's more going on as well. Our girls did a week of summer camp with Kang's, and are looking forward to going back this summer. They have parents nights out, parties, and other events as well. It really is like a community rather than just a place where you take a class and leave, which is nice. We recently had one of our children's birthday parties there, and the kids had a blast. People really go out of their way to make sure you have a good experience whether it's a special event, or just a normal weekday class. Whether you just want your kids to try something new and get some exercise, or have them learn a skill which they can commit themselves to for several years and possibly carry with them their whole lives, Kang's is just great. My daughters have been going here for almost a year, and they still look forward to classes and are excited to go (which never happened with any other activity I've signed them up for). The staff is friendly and passionate about teaching, the facility is very nice, and the prices are competitive. Classes have a fun, casual vibe, but the instructors do demand attention and respect. Kang's does not have mandatory (and predatory) contracts, which is virtually unheard of in other karate schools in the area. So there's really no risk in giving them a try. My kids have been attending both the little dragons and kid tigers programs for the past couple of years. this being one of the few places that offers a program for kids as young as 3 was the reason i came here in the first place. well, the programs are good, they're engaging and fun for the kids and only 45 min per class so completely doable for a working parent. The staff is patient and friendly, always happy to see new students enroll. now the not so good part: every couple of months they have what's called a "performance". Kids are given the chance to show what they've learned and received a new color belt. that's all good and dandy BUT it adds up quickly if you have more than 1 kid and if these "performances" are every couple of months. Little dragons performance is $35-$40 and kids tigers are $50 for white belts (they go up from there to $100). now, never mind these BELTs mean absolutely nothing. The Tae Kwon Do class is where the real belts are given after proper testing. Yes, I understand that they want to encourage the kids and give them something for their efforts but if they really wanted to do it for just that, these performances would be free or pretty close to that. maybe ask the parents to purchase the belts and that's all. so if you're thinking to enroll your kids, add up the cost of the performances. another thing that's pretty annoying is that classes are canceled very frequently. they're pretty good about sending email but you need to workaround the schedule to makeup for classes if you don't want to waste your $. Martial Arts conferences, summer camp, community activities, all these prompt them to cancel class. so be prepared to adjust to THEIR schedule. read more

Whereas some dojos seem to be out of touch with reality or have crazed zealot instructors KANGS is a family run business who respects family priorities. KANGs offers a safe respectful and secure home away from home for your child or the adult. The sense of belonging and self confidence that has evolved in my child from attending KANGS is priceless. They also run a sleep away camp in August. Our then 6 yo begged us to go. If it were any other camp we would not have felt comfortable for him to attend. However, the Malakoffs as the owners and the numerous parents of the children students who are also KANG instructors or students that attended the camp made it so we had no reservations at all with our son attending. They Even had a camp Doctor just for KANGS who attended who was also a parent of a child who attended camp.
