Warmups aren't too difficult but they get your joints ready for drilling and sparring. The techniques are taught in a clear, step-by-step manner that has both street safety and sport effectiveness in mind. There isn't any aggressiveness but everyone trains respectfully and there are plenty of purple belts who have helped me really hone in on details. Everything is handled in a way that pushes you to strive for detail-oriented jiu-jitsu while respecting your training partner.

I started out at his other location in Bethesda, joined the "Women's Kick Ass" class and Brazilian JiuJitsu classes here in Glenmont too. It's amazing, Greg and Tori (Women's class co-teacher) are amazing at what they do. They have been doing it a long time and you can tell. Not only by their technique, but their true passion for the sport. Anytime Relson Gracie is comin to town, they're there, for support, to give accolades, to LEARN. Aside from being great people, they are great teachers too. They communicate clearly, are happy to show moves in slow motion, from different angles, and hear your questions at any time; I am often guilty of saying "so...I was watching TV, and saw this move on Criminal Minds..." They teach students of all kinds-shapes-and sizes. They have a kids class too, so you know what that means... if they can keep the attention span of little children and teach them how to protect themselves....they're super coaches! What you really learn is how what they teach you depends on using your body to your advantage. It doesn't matter if you're big or small, strong or "room for improvement," it's a matter of physics... like working your body angles, pivot points, and leverage.... like calculated chess moves. I've learned self defense for the street, and proper grappling moves as well. The other bonus I've taken away is the mental aspect learned through all this. JiuJitsu is a calm of mind activity. Yes, you may rolling around on the ground, defending yourself, breaking a sweat (which is also a good cardio workout), but you're also trying to keep your mind at neutral. You don't want to waste all your strength in a battle for bronze (especially if you're my size, you'd often lose that fight). You don't want to tense up either. You stay calm, you keep in mind you are worth fighting for and there is always a way out of this. You "turn on your spidey senses" to feel where your partner/attacker is grabbing you, and use your skills to maneuver around their grasp. Seriously--mind included--it's a full body workout. 3rd to last fun fact/tip: Greg and Tori hold seminars for private groups too (good for team-building activities, safety lessons, birthdays, maybe even bachelorette parties.... the moves I've learned, have definitely gotten me out of some tickle wars with my husband). 2nd to last tip of awesomeness: If you prepay for a class, or combination of classes, in bundles you get a discount! Be sure to ask when registering (because after this adoring review, how could you not sign up :-) am I right). Okay, the real last tip/fun fact: Students are also welcome to open mat Thursday nights for more practice!!

Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba, or Osensi as Aikido practitioners fondly calls him. This martial art is based on the principles and philosophies of peace, non- violence, and unity/ harmony. Come check out the place if you're looking for a good workout, good people, and good place to learn self-defense. Oh yeah, Saotome Sensei, has been training for 50 years and is one of the last surviving disciples of O-Sensei (Ueshiba) - the founder of Aikido. The dojo is run as a co-operative and your monthly dues allow you to take as many classes as you'd like. I've always liked how the most senior students and instructors are open and available to help the beginners and answer any and all questions about Aikido, etc. There are numerous classes every day and the regular class instructors are all ranked Sandan (3rd black belt) or higher. You can train before work or after. The biggest challenge is getting used to the basic moves and getting comfortable rolling. Once you start rolling with ease, you'll soon find that it's an excellent workout, in addition to a beautiful and spiritual martial art. They also have excellent instruction for children weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

The 'Tiny Tigers' class is excellent and does a great job of making the activities and instruction fit well for kids of different ages and skill levels. Even small things, like at the end of class Master Breunig will put his hand up high (depending on how old the kid is) and each kid tries to jump up to hit him with a high five. The kids love it, and it's something that can be tailored to small and bigger kids. Well, here I am, I am back again to write another review. This place deserves all the continued…read morePraise . I started Fitness Together in the dead of winter in 2022. The beginning of a year and my new path. After being divorced and out of shape from 6 years of care to others, it was time for care for me. Adian was my first trainer and awoken the joy buried deep inside. I got to a place of acceptance and strength with my body. Which I went over in my first review, the amount of growth and joy I experienced. I had reached a stable point and had to leave until I could dig for more gold to one day return. In the dead of winter, I arose once again, I said, I would be back, and I was. This time with Marques as my new guild in my next phase of life. Marques started with goals, but not just physical goals. He set up mental and spiritual growth. I was asked to make a goal that impacted my life. I said, "I wanted to be stable, financially secure, get out of debt, work on my body where I can use my left ,I have cerebral palsy) as well as my right. I wanted the goal of balancing my outer world and inner world. I was blessed with magic! As the months passed, Not only did I become stronger in my body, but step by step, I got a new job, started to learn how to budget, kicked a shopping addition, planned for my future, found an ancient doctor that works for me to balance my pain and last but not least... I experienced true joy, acceptance, and confidence in being me, whole me, flaws that are told are flaws but are things we grow from. I am so grateful to Fitness Together. They truly have people who care and help build you to your ultimate. Marques, thank you. Thank you for believing in the fact that I can believe in myself. I started as a shell of what I used to be. Together, Adian dug me out, and Marques gave me my book about me, helped me to remember, as well as grow into the best me. A gym is just a gym, but Fitness Together is a life path. I came in thinking I was just going to gain a scary booty. But I gained more than my excellent booty. I experienced life growth. One that has laid the foundation for me to build the beautiful home of myself I have always dreamed of. Marques reminded me that dreams are the first step to reality, and you are able to manifest the dreams you believe in as long as you believe in you. He gave me the gift of me. Showed me, hey, it isn't anybody but you. I am just here to remind you that you got this! Thank you, Marques and Fitness Together, for being a place of growth and courage. It is a life path that has enlightened my world. Are you ready to start yours?

They don't have any real weight lifting equipment so you can't power lift and they basically just want everyone to use light weights and bands. The trainer didn't cancel even when he had a very bad cold so I got sick, he coughed the entire session. He said he didn't want to cancel and it was probably just allergies. In February. If you are hoping to do any cardio or even warm up, forget it. They have a couple ancient treadmills that are always broken. For the price per session you could easily belong to a nice gym and get personal training. Avoid,
