But this time was different when we're back for our fourth baby. While admitted at The Queen's Medical Center for the birth of our fourth baby, my husband used the hospital valet service on 5/13/2026 at around 11:30 AM as I was going into active labor. Our vehicle remained in valet custody overnight. The following day, Thursday on March 14, 2026, around 11:00 AM, my husband retrieved the vehicle to run errands and discovered that the inside of our van had clearly been rummaged through. Cash and other small personal items were missing. A report was immediately made to hospital security, and a statement was taken. While the amount stolen may be considered minor, the violation of privacy and trust during such a vulnerable and important family moment is extremely upsetting. We understand valuables should never be left in vehicles, but patients and families should still be able to expect professionalism, honesty, and security from a hospital valet service -- especially during overnight stays connected to medical care and childbirth. We hope management takes this matter seriously and properly investigates the incident.

Not too mention the woman the works at the pharmacy. Patient is wheeled to pharmacy and has to wait. Wheelchair leaves. Patient gets meds and is told you have to go. Why the hell do I see my person hobbling out the hospital on crutches? I guess having a joint replaced is t serious enough for wheelchair assist. I will not go here. Send me to tripler. My chances for a good recovery seem better Don't contact me with some B.S. excuse Queens!

Last year in April of 2024 I sought help for some pain I was experiencing, I went and listened to Dr. Son explaining in detail of of what he hoped to accomplish with me and my challenging problems. I paid a whopping $12200 out of pocket for my upper back are ($1500), right knee ($1500), and my upper arms at ($1500). My lower back at $6750.00. The figures are as best that I can remember. Treatment consisted of taking huge 350 vials of blood and spinning them centrifugally and inserting them back into my body. Sometimes it was one or two, and sometimes 3. I got extremely dizzy after this and sometimes had to wait awhile until my body recovered until I felt better. There was one incident that I recall where they reinjected stem cells into my lower back and that was excruciating. I cried out in pain. During these visits sometimes it was done by Dr. Son (who is not an MD) but a chiropractor. There were two visits that I met a Dr. Charles Arakaki and the next time there was a doctor named Dr. Carlos Fernandez. Funny that I never saw them again. ALL OF THE TREATMENTS DID NOT WORK, I COMPLETED THE EXERCISES TO A T AND ALL FAILED!! At that point I stopped going, no sense in wasting my time as well as endure more pain. I went to my regular pain doctor and he immediately scheduled a procedure for me for the next day and I have been pain free for about 3 1/2 weeks. I later e mailed Dr. Son asking for my money back. He called me yesterday and said that he was unable to do so because of the paperwork that I signed. He went on and on to say that he complied with the intent of the scope of the immediate paperwork and could not refund me. I feel TAKEN advantage of. I am soon to be 74 years of age, gave him a big chunk of my money with NO PROMISED RESULTS. If anyone here who has had a similar issue with NexGen maybe we can all ge together and file a class action lawsuit. Hit me up and we'll discuss.

Our family has been Kaiser members for over a decade with consistently excellent experiences -- until my wife's recent visit with Dr. Matthew Chan, an Internal Medicine physician at Kaiser Permanente's Honolulu office. What followed was one of the most frustrating and disrespectful medical encounters we have experienced, and one we feel compelled to share so that other patients can make an informed decision. My wife came in with straightforward questions about her lab results and prior test findings. Rather than addressing her concerns with patience and clarity, Dr. Chan was dismissive from the start. Most strikingly, he repeatedly insisted that my wife needed a professional translator -- not once, not twice, but at least four times, each time after she had clearly and explicitly declined. This was not a minor oversight. It was a persistent and unwelcome interruption that derailed the consultation each time it was raised, prevented her questions from being addressed substantively, and sent an unmistakable message that her communication was not being taken seriously. My wife speaks English without any difficulty. Every other physician she has seen at Kaiser has communicated with her without ever raising this concern. Repeatedly pushing a translator on a patient who has said no is not attentiveness -- it is disrespectful, presumptuous, and deeply unfriendly. What made this situation far worse was Dr. Chan's clinical note following the visit. It was lengthy, inaccurate, and offensive -- misrepresenting what occurred and containing language that has no place in a formal medical record. When my husband called to follow up, he encountered the same dismissiveness and condescension. Dr. Chan questioned whether he understood basic medical terminology and asked him to define terms after he confirmed he understood them. His subsequent clinical note on that phone call was equally filled with distortions, misrepresentations, and statements taken entirely out of context. His explanation for all of it -- our concerns, our objections, every point of disagreement -- was a language barrier. We are both highly educated professionals. That explanation is false, and it is offensive. What is perhaps most telling is that my wife was prepared to move on, as we are busy with our work and life, while taking care of our health. Despite leaving the appointment feeling dismissed and disrespected, she had no intention of taking the matter further. It was Dr. Chan's own clinical notes that changed that. Rather than documenting the visit in the objective and professional manner that a legal medical record demands, he used his notes to protect himself -- filling them with distorted accounts, twisted statements, and language that has no place in a clinical document. The effect was precisely the opposite of what he intended. Instead of shielding himself from a complaint, his unprofessional clinical notes became the basis for a complaint. We are spending our time on this not because we sought a confrontation, but because reading those notes left us no choice. Kaiser Permanente's grievance process is unnecessarily burdensome. In an era where virtually every interaction with a healthcare provider can be initiated digitally, patients who wish to file a complaint are required to do so by mail or fax -- a process that appears designed to discourage grievances rather than facilitate them. This is a disservice to patients who have already been failed by a provider and should not have to jump through additional hurdles to have their concerns heard. We only recently discovered other patient reviews of Dr. Chan, which reflect experiences identical to ours -- apathy, dismissiveness, rushed appointments, poor communication, and patients feeling disrespected and unheard. We arrived at these conclusions before ever reading those reviews. The consistency speaks for itself. Kaiser Permanente has many outstanding physicians and we have been proud members for over a decade. Dr. Chan, in our experience, is not among them.

This review is for my experience with the Family Birth Center and the postpartum recovery center…read moreafterwards. The doctors, nurses, CNA's and other staff helped make my birth experience go as smoothly as possible. They were all professional, compassionate, and gave me 5-star worthy care. My favorite part was our celebratory meal we got to enjoy on the second night of our stay. I was fortunate enough to be on my way home after only 2 nights. The reason for deducting 1 star is because my discharge experience could've gone better. We went from 2 blissful days of feeling taken care of and pampered, to feeling like we were being rushed to move out. An older Asian lady (not sure what her role is at Kapiolani but I know she definitely wasn't a nurse) came into our room and started basically telling us it's time to get ready to go. She asked my husband where our car seat was. We explained to her, per the instructions from our RN that was last taking care of us, we were waiting for the pharmacy to call to let us know my prescription was ready, then my husband will grab the car seat on the way to the pharmacy. Then we would have someone from their staff ensure that we buckled baby in correctly, and then proceed with discharge. This lady started yapping and bossing my husband around, telling him to bring the car around up front and we'll all walk out together. She then proceeded to call the pharmacy to basically tell them to hurry up and fill my prescription. Her presence caused me unnecessary stress. We felt like we were being hurried to clear out the room. On top of that, I was not offered a wheelchair to our car. I had to walk, 2 days postpartum, freshly stitched up and sore, to our car parked in front at guest drop off. Despite this experience I'm not letting it overshadow my overall experience at Kapiolani. The nurses were so sweet and supportive and made me feel like a rock star first time mom after I gave birth to my daughter in just 11 hours. I left feedback for kapiolani and I do hope they take steps to improve their discharge process for future patients.

My daughter had her baby at Kapiolani, where she received good prenatal and delivery care. The Center is currently fundraising to raise money to support growth. I attended parts of the fundraiser, which was a heart warming experience. The facilities are a mishmash of architectural styles mostly from the 1980's. There is modest colorful art throughout the complex. The dining room on the second floor hosts a decent cafeteria and a Starbucks. The hospital is immaculate inside. The hospital is also a teaching hospital in partnership with the medical school at the University of Hawaii. Today, I also had lunch in the Kobayashi & Kosasa Dining Room. A big bowl of soup was only $4! I had broccoli cheese soup, which was healthier than your average soup, made with noticeably less salt. I loved my soup. The cafeteria offers an interesting menu of Hawaiian traditional meals, craft pizzas, salads and more. They offer valet parking, because finding your own parking is near impossible. There is a parking garage somewhere on site, but I'm not sure where.

Free From Chronic Pain by Suzanna Williams…read more I recently had spine fusion surgery at Kuakini Hospital on August 21,25. The surgery was a complete success without any complications. I believe, wholeheartedly, that my success is due to everyone who played a part of my experience at Kuakini Hospital. You changed my life! Thank you! 1. Dr. Awaya, Orthopedic Surgeon 2. Pre-check in by phone and in person (staff and nurses) 3. Surgery day preparations (staff and nurses) 4. Occupational Therapist (post surgery) 8. Social Worker (post surgery) 9. Cafeteria personnel My story is nothing new when I share I had been battling chronic back pain for years. The journey had been a very long and winding road trying this and that to relieve my chronic pain. There were some things that worked along the way but unfortunately my chronic pain persisted that enviably lead me to surgery. I went to my first consultation with Dr.Awaya. This was the day I would get answers to what was causing my pain. First impressions always speaks volumes to me. He entered the room with confidence. He introduced himself and asked me how I was doing. I had my list of concerns ready and I am a very long winded person...I can talk forever and he took the time to listen without any interruptions. He then led into showing me what was causing my chronic pain at L4 and L5. He did this on the computer using my MRI image that had been taken at a recent visit to the emergency room back in March of this year. He went over my condition giving it a name called Spondylolisthesis and explained to me how spinal fusion surgery can correct this condition. He spoke with confidence with no fluff and did not mince his words. He got right to the point. I appreciated that. We met once more before the surgery where he then gave me his expectations of the surgery: 1. Approximately how long the surgery could take (3-4 hours) 2. Explained the possibility of infection 3. Explained the surgery procedure 4. My length of stay in the hospital (2 days) 5. Recovery at rehabilitation center (2 weeks) 6. Follow-up visit with him in (2 weeks) Everything went according to plan. I had surgery on July 21, 2025 and discharged to recovery on July 23, 2025 without any complications due to the wonderful people working at Kuakini Hospital. The level of care provided to me by the nurses, therapists, staff, and others assigned to my care were instrumental to my surgery success and healing process. 1. Everyone always explained what they were doing and why it was necessary 2. Everyone worked as a unified team member 3. Nurses introduced themselves switching shifts 4. Updated my board accordingly 5. Administered prescribed medications accordingly 6. Monitored my care per doctor's order precisely 7. Always asked about my well-being 8. The physical and occupational therapists were instrumental to my long-term success 9. Kudos to the cafeteria staff in preparing my food. It was the best tasting hospital food I had ever had. I never went hungry! Everyone did exactly what they were assigned to do. The environment was conducive to a successful post-surgery outcome. God bless all of you! Post surgery update. Three weeks after surgery: 1. Discharged from recovery on August 4, 2025 returned home 2. I can walk for 30 minutes around my neighborhood. I have done it three days straight now without any problems 3. I can go to church for 2 hours 4. I can bend my leg to put on my own socks and shoes 5. I am totally free from chronic pain- Praise the Lord! Excellent teamwork!
