Never ever become a member with Kaiser. They deny over 40% of their claims. The wait just to see a doctor will always take 3 to 4 months. They are changing their business model to reduce the number of doctors and replace them with less expensive PA's or Nurse Practioners. I have been with Kaiser for 45 years and they are the best medical and treatment and staff in United States!

Some doctors are okay but they need to hire new (and more) staff. Attempted to ask a question at the radiology desk and it took 15 minutes to come to the front desk. There were sooo many people waiting in the waiting room and such a long wait. The receptionist finally came, was extremely rude, and was not helpful. Update: I hate Kaiser Permanente. Took me two months to contact the radiology department. I wrote a grievance and nothing happened. I was so sick and no one did shit. I spent an hour on the phone a day, callling from two separate phones, and no one answered. Worst service ever. read more

I am aware that this Kaiser location has closed and the Baseline location is now the sole Boulder location. However, since this has been the place where I primarily received medical treatment during the time Kaiser was my workplace insurance, I am copy/pasting my comments about Kaiser to this location. I had originally and erroneously placed my comments in another city's Kaiser location on Yelp, as it was my first Yelp comment, and I did not quite understand Yelp yet. The original comment, dated October 2, 2007, is below: ******************************* My son was born while I had KP insurance, and he is almost 30 now. I have had KP coverage on and off during that time, enough to see the changes that have occurred during that time. KP was pretty decent at the time my son was born. Unfortunately, it has gone downhill since that time. There are still great doctors and health practitioners that somehow end up employed by KP, but the difficult and potentially deadly stuff that happens to people seems to come from the corporate entity...from policy and protocol that the doctors apparently must strictly follow. Very fortunately, my employer recently ended its relationship with KP due to some of KP's policies that did not mesh with their own healthcare philosophies. So I was liberated. The new HMO I'm with is magnificent so far. But it's been several months, and KP still sends me letters. Not about money, oh no, they're semi-threatening letters about a particular health condition they diagnosed some time ago. I've since had a clean bill of health regarding that condition, actually, probably due to some preventive and alternative health approaches I was doing. These aren't just regular letters. They're registered letters, where the mailperson comes to the door and a person has to sign for them. One just came today. I called my local KP office, the # that was on the letter, right away. The person I spoke to was very pleasant, and trying to be logical and reasonable. She pointed out that they had acknowledged I was no longer with KP as an HMO. She was trying to justify the rationale for them continuing to send me their letters, by stating one of their corporate protocols. I told her that they needed to stop sending me letters immediately, as I am considering this harrassment, and will hire an attorney if necessary to get them to stop contacting me. Very medicore health care system Very impersonal, phone system takes you no where, Kaiser tries depersonalize everything w automated systems, but they don't work. Try calling the mail pharmacy and you get sorry our system is full call back another time. The good docs don't put their bio on their site cause they already have too many patients. The best thing is their pharmacy prices are below commercial chains. I understand their difficulties after affordable care act was a rush, but it's a year later and not sure much improvement. read more

I have honestly never had worse care in my life! If you are thinking of switching to Kaiser... Don't! For example, last year they messed up my new membership for the first four months and I went to fill a prescription I would have to fill out a form saying that my Kaiser number is not activated yet but I am covered. I would pick up my birth control, and they would not be able to look up coverage because my plan would never go through. The nice pharmacy staff assured me that it was probably be covered, but at the most would be $5-$20. One year later, turns out my birth control was not covered! Even though they told me to go ahead with it every time. $60 a month! anywhere else birth control would have been free. Not to mention horrible service on the phone.. and really mediocre doctors who are probably overworked. The in-person staff people are very kind though. UGH I am trying to switch insurances as its been an awful year with them. read more

Really mediocre. This is an organization where you will spend 40 minutes on hold for the wrong department. Kaiser use to be much better about 10 years ago, but they've really gone down hill (especially admin/offices/services). We've had all types of things happen to us (i.e. they forgot about one of my children in a waiting room for over an hour). Physicians are oversubscribed too, long waiting times, non welcoming front office, confused billing, non-working phone numbers. With the big double digit bump up in premiums for multiple years, the value proposition is declining rapidly. The two good things I can say for the organization is that they emphasize prevention which is a good (they offer "free" flue shots, and one free preventative visit a year, as well as a positive newsletter emphasizing healthy living practice). The other positive part about Kaiser is that I have encountered hardworking, very qualified practitioners. Thus, if you can avoid the business, service, office, admin side the underlying doctors, RNs, PAs etc. are great, but it's often a hassle to actually access them. I think in this new era of health care, your best value is probably doing a good job taking care of yourself, i.e. healthy diet, exercise, rest. read more

I stumbled on these reviews when I clicked on a wrong link and was shocked at these negative reviews. It's too bad that only complainers seem to take the time to write reviews here. While I have noticed Kaiser going through some minor growing pains evidently due to changes in healthcare over the last year, I have to say the impact has been minimal. I have used Kaiser for at least 7 years and find them to be top notch. I have a complicated health history and spent 10 of the last 15 years in and out of doctor's offices, ER's and hospitals-so I feel I have some experience in dealing with doctors and healthcare, since during that time I had 3 different insurance companies, due to work. I LOVE my Kaiser doctors, all of my health records are computerized and able to be accessed by any doctor I visit-a big advantage over visiting multiple unrelated doctors who have no idea what is going on with my other healthcare professionals. I can email my doctor and get an answer directly from him within 1/2 hour usually. (and he always remembers who I am!) I can go online and order prescription refills, look at test results or previous appts. and book new appointments-no waiting on hold. I don't think I have waited more than 10 minutes (and it's usually 5 or less) to have a blood test, mammogram or x-ray. ALL aspects of my healthcare are tracked and co-ordinated by Kaiser, including my eye appointments. Kaiser sends me health alerts, treatment plans and reminders, so I never forget when I'm due for a check-up and what I should be aware of in order to stay healthy. I don't know what people writing these reviews are looking for in a doctor, but I don't think their priorities seem to be finding a place that is dedicated to keeping them well.It sounds more like they want an $$$$$ concierge doctor. read more

Kaiser does have long lines for bloodwork. It takes months to get an appointment , Even longer to see a specialist, months to get an MRI . They have technicians doing jobs the doctors should be doing, colonoscopies or example. And their policy towards members seems to be a pill for every occasion. There are great doctors at Kaiser but you have hard time finding one. As long as you stay healthy and never really get sick or hurt, you'll probably love Kaiser ! If you take a look at the new hospitals in Oakland and San Leandro it is very clear that Kaiser is thriving. Probably because they have more healthy members that don't require much medical care ? I am still mad at Kaiser for the inappropriate care that I received. But mainly I am mad at myself, because I was stupid enough to let it happen. I put more thought into researching a TV or buying a car than doing research on healthcare coverage that our lives might depend on ! I should've contacted the California medical board and reported the inappropriate care that I received. I should've canceled them immediately as soon as it was apparent that they are incompetent. I did cancel Kaiser 20 years ago! And I wish I never paid them a dime. Unfortunately I was a member for 20 years . There are better options out there for healthcare. For example the VA medical system which I am entitled to being a veteran. Is 100 times better and a thousand times cheaper ! If you're not a veteran Blue Shield is probably the best. Because you have much more control of picking your doctors, you are much more likely to get the personalize service That everybody would like. Unlike Kaiser you will have to find a doctor that is willing to take you, but it is really worth the effort. Don't be surprised if you have to see a specialist and have surgery be prepared to write a check for the full value of your deductible before the doctor sees you. No health insurance plan is perfect. The biggest problem with Blue Shield he is incompetent billing. But that's much better than incompetent policies and practices that Kaiser is famous for! It's your money, it's your life. Don't tolerate unappropriate care ,do your research , don't allow Kaiser or any other healthcare bureaucracy to drive you insane! read more

I'm so incredibly disappointed in Kaiser Permente right now. I've been without health insurance for 6 months and haven't been able to get my prescriptions, including Adderall for my ADHD. It's been a huge problem for me to focus and get work done as a freelance web developer. I was so excited to finally have insurance again through my wife. Then they told me to get an Adderall prescription I need to take a drug test!!! Since I have smoked recreational marijuana (legal in CO) in the last 30 days I can't get the medication I need to function. And once I get drug tested a month from now I'll still be randomly drug screened as long as I'm prescribed Adderall. I had to have hip surgery a couple of months ago. I have the Gold plan where Kaiser charges over $1100.00/month for this plan. I thought it was going to be a really good plan. Was I wrong. Kaiser is the worst insurance company I have ever had. I thought I was going to get a bill for $1500.00, wrong I got a bill for $7000.00. You would thing at over $1100.00/mo you would have good coverage. They took to total deductible as well as the total maximum out of pocket for the year and handed me the bill. I have NEVER had to pay both at the same time. They say they are non-profit-I say Bull&hi*, they say the proudly work to improve the lives and health of their clients-again Bull*hi*. They have lost 280 million in insurance plans-maybe that because they are not worth the paper they are written on and people can't afford to pay $1100.00/mo premium and then turn around and be handed a $7000.00 bill so people are having to look for another insurance company that is going to actually cover them and not one that is screwing its patient out of money because they are losing millions of dollars. Hey Ron Vance-take a pay cut and no bonus's-there's a start instead of trying to put the blame somewhere else. You need to close up shop in Colorado, because you are not improving anyone lives or health, you are only creating a nightmare for those of us who have to rely on your insurance plan. AND your going to keep laying people off to try and solve your financial problems, where if you just treated your patients right they would not have left and gone else where. This is one that is not going to be paying $1100.00/mo for the worst insurance ever. Copy of letter I sent to kaiser To Whom it may concern. I would like to express how upset I am at my first and last (to date) visit to the clinic in Evergreen, CO. I came in Friday 4-29-2011 with a sore throat. I was seen in a timely manor. Being a new patient the nurse advised me that I needed to set up an appointment and choose a Primary Care Physician. I was informed that they could take care of that right away. I made it abundantly clear that I did not want to do it at that time. I was hesitant to do it at all not seeing the need. While being examined she was insistent on the fact that I needed it done. I conceded that maybe I should but that now was not a good time and I could come back later in the day or set an appointment for next week. As the examination went on she repeated how important it was for me to see a Primary Care Physician. The Primary Care Physician could explain the lab work that was in my file.Work that I had gotten done for my Dermatologist. Again I repeted now was not a good time I had somewhere to be. She took a swab of my throat and said she would be right back. Some 20 min later she stuck her head in and told me that the doctor would be in in a few min. My thought was why am I seeing a doctor for a nurse visit? When the Doctor came in she started to go over the tests I had in my file.Tests had nothing to do with why I was there at the time. I explained that I was now short on time and had hoped this was to be over soon. She then started to examine me. As she did she joked that "bet it feels like you are being forced to see a doctor." I told her YES it did. She told me that the nurse was concerned for me. After the examination the doctor told me the short test had concluded I did not have Strep and my throat was sore. She did not give me a prescription for anything, nor did she tell me that they do not give out antibiotics for this. She in fact did not give me any advice at all! Just sent me on my way after almost 2 hours in your office. Your nurse, while thinking she was acting in my best behalf was NOT! I DO NOT need a another mother. She WASTED my time! The doctor that I did not need to see did nothing for me and again wasted my time! I am furious that I spent almost 2 hours in your clinic and only got hassled, nothing productive happened! MY TIME WAS WASTED! What am I paying for? I was assessed a Co-Pay, I will not pay it! I would like your help to have it removed from my file. I have been a new patient for almost 5 months this is the second doctor I have seen. So far I have had a problem at every turn when I have dealt with your company. When I set up my online access, when I set the appointment for my dermatologist, when I faxed records to your records department, when I faxed records directly to my doctor, having the first of 2 prescriptions filled, Still having problems with the second prescription and now this. You have lost this customer, You have bought bad word of mouth. We have a choice at my company of providers, I will be steering people away from your company. Having health care no longer available in Boulder has taken an extreme and harmful toll on my parents. The drive is long and adds to the time to receive medical help. I wouldn't be surprised if many seniors deny themselves care rather than make that trip in the winter. Before my mother died, I had two experiences with the facility there. The first, was to set a broken bone in her lower arm. We waited a long time, even though we arrived on time, and the man who set her arm was so rough and crude I was sorry we went there. The second, and last, was to assess my mother after a fall at home. The emergency staff failed to identify compression fractures and sent us home, and they also failed to adequately fill her oxygen tank, so we ran out before we even reached the outskirts of Boulder. I have nothing positive to say about their professional abilities as medical staff. My father and stepmother now have to make the drive there, and find it adds to the stress and time to get medical help. Hindsight: I would have all family use Boulder Community Hospital and pay out of pocket. At least the care there can be counted on. Sarah Leahy No-zero star rating from me read more
