I was admitted to the Boulder Community Hospital Emergency Department on July 21, 2025 for 'seizure-like activity.' The ER physician misdiagnosed the symptoms as 'psychosis' and arranged for me to be placed on an M1 hold and transferred to Cedar Springs Hospital psychiatric institution in Colorado Springs later that day. This assessment was not competent and was gravely in error. Two days later, on July 23, 2025, I was transferred to the UC Memorial Health Center ER in Colorado Springs by ambulance from Cedar Springs Hospital and placed under intensive care due to asphyxiation from choking on vomit during tonic-clonic seizures. The staff at Cedar Springs claimed I had fallen and hit my head at their facility, which my care team at Memorial Hospital was able to find no evidence of. I was put on a ventilator and a tracheal tube was inserted. By that point I already had pneumonia. To quote an MD from the Memorial Hospital case notes on July 23, "The specific organ or organ systems failed or in danger of failing were Cardiovascular, Neurological, and Respiratory." To quote his colleague on July 24, "Patient's condition is life-threatening and without ongoing intervention would deteriorate." A third Physician on July 26 noted, "BH [Behavior Health] evaluated him and he is NOT gravely disabled and does not meet any M1 hold criteria," and, "This pt [patient] has Epilepsy." This was the neurologist who observed the tonic-clonic seizures on EEG. I was discharged from Memorial Hospital and sent home later that day. Respiratory failure and tonic-clonic seizure are known to cause permanent death of brain tissue and irreversible injury to the brain. They should have just sedated me and put me on EEG, that's not hard or expensive. But I guess then they don't get to bill the insurance for as much. Would not recommend. read more

I needed the ER after a nasty accidental cut. My clumsy vision impaired fault. I had done something similar a few years ago and ride to heal it on my own. It took a month to close the finger wound which was not a good outcome of my poor choice. This winter I had a worse but similar insult to the same finger so I did go to the ER and their efficient care of the finger allowed it to heal properly. This time we made the same choice for a smaller ct on a different finger and it has healed extremely well. From the moment I arrived, bloody hand wrapped , I was treated efficiently and politely, from register g window to assessment to treatment. Clerical staff and medical staff are well trained. On 1 visit, I actually needed an MD but the most recent used a PA who did a fine job. The various techs who were used to clean the wounds as well as remove stitches later were also efficient and accurate at task. I am lucky to have this fairly near by, though not as close as when BCH had the facility right in town. Back then it was a much shorter distance for my family, especially when transporting one of my children. But progress requires more and different space and with this facility accessible to a few highways it is better for the greater community that has moved to the suburbs of Boulder. Since I have good insurance and have used this facility in the past. They can process my emergencies quite quickly. There were other patients in line too, some with far greater injuries so appropriate that they were taken even more quickly and were served by the discs. Broken ribs from bicycle incidents have been other cases with priority both times. Such a Boulder situation so be careful out there! read more

On September 23rd, 2025, I went to the BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department for severe headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and frequent episodes of double vision. One episode lasted long enough that I had to pull over while driving. The ER performed bloodwork and an MRI, both of which were normal, and sent me home with a generic "how to treat headaches" handout. The handout even specifically stated to seek medical attention if the headaches were accompanied by dizziness or vision changes, which were my main presenting complaints that visit. I followed up with my primary care doctor who referred me to a neurologist and an ophthalmologist. The neurologist was booked until November. I saw the ophthalmologist on October 6th, 2025 and he found significant swelling in both optic nerves and strongly suspected Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH). He told me to go to the ER if my symptoms worsened prior to my neurology appointment. He explained that IIH can lead to permanent vision loss and must be officially diagnosed and treated with a spinal tap. Just two days later, on October 8th, I returned to the BCH Foothills Hospital after four episodes of complete vision loss, along with the worst headache of my life, severe dizziness, and back and neck pain. I was seen by Dr. Shannon Sovndal and gave him a detailed medical history, including my ophthalmologist's findings and his recommendation for a spinal tap. It is also important to note that they had access to all of my medical records since they were all in the shared BCH system. Dr. Sovndal was dismissive, repeatedly interrupted me, and insisted on repeating imaging even though I had just had an MRI at the same facility two weeks earlier. After several hours and additional imaging, he told me everything was "normal" and that there was "nothing wrong." When I explained that my symptoms had worsened and asked again about a spinal tap, he said it was "out of the ER's scope" and that I should wait for my neurology appointment, despite it being a month away. He stated, "if your symptoms get worse, you can come back to the ER. But I don't mean if your symptoms are just bothering you more. I mean if your symptoms are actually progressing." This was extremely frustrating since this was after I had gone completely blind multiple times that day.. if that's not my symptoms progressing, what is? I was sent home again with the same generic headache handout. Feeling unsafe with waiting a month for my neurologist to treat me, I immediately went to UCHealth Broomfield Hospital, where my experience was completely different. Four nurses rushed me back immediately after hearing my symptoms and the ER doctor virtually consulted a neurologist right away. The ER doctor performed a spinal tap and confirmed my intracranial pressure was 47 (normal range is 6-20). After removing fluid, I felt instant relief. The UCHealth doctor told me my pressure was dangerously high and confirmed that untreated IIH can cause serious health issues, including permanent blindness and neurological deficits. The ER doctor at UCHealth asked if I knew why BCH hadn't performed a spinal tap. I told her I had no idea, especially since I had specifically requested one. She appeared visibly surprised and concerned by that answer. I'm deeply disappointed in BCH Foothills Hospital Emergency Department, especially Dr. Shannon Sovndal, for dismissing a serious and time-sensitive neurological condition.. twice. I'm incredibly grateful to UCHealth for listening, acting quickly, and preventing what could have been a permanent outcome. I worked here for 15 years and was so proud to walk thru those front doors. I had my children here. It has saved my husbands life several times . Cardiac team is excellent. Staff caring and friendly. Today I am very disheartened And quite frankly disgusted. Front entrance is a disgrace . Carpet is so old and worn. Holes in floors. Impressions r everything. If front dirty, rest of hospital same. Hallways so cluttered, there is not much room to walk. Got off at 9th floor and cleaning staff all sitting in hallway. Not a good impression either. Fire doors being held open with echo lab cart, rails along walls r broken, bathrooms very very dirty at entrance. Nursing stations r cluttered and cramped for staff, so much junk taped to walls. Where has my tax dollar gone? To the new buildings, executive salaries? not the front line staff as we were told "we r short staffed". I have heard this since 1979 when I started worked here. Just excuses. Did not see anyone cleaning anything for the 2 hours I sat waiting for a test. I moved on and worked at excellent facilities, yes in the US. I went into the emergency room on Saturday because of an injury I sustained. The first couple of people I dealt with were very kind and helpful. The had no problem answering questions and taking their time with me. The last nurse I dealt with was a complete and utter bitch. All she did was try and shuffle me out of the hospital while I was still trying to ask her questions because this was my first time with this type of injury. They gave me a phone number to call for a follow up, and when I called a man answered and helped me out because I was confused since the last stuck up nurse didn't tell me what I was meant to do when I called. He forwarded me to the emergency room and the lady that answered that phone was very condescending and not at all in the mood to help someone who was clearly confused. Overall some good and some bad but the bad parts of it are pretty bad and should be ashamed if this is how they act on the regular to their patients. I understand it is a stressful thing to work in a hospital, but your job is to help the patients not brush off any questions or things they're confused on. read more

My recent experience at Boulder Community Health Hospital (Foothills Emergency Department) was outstanding. I was brought in for a detox check while attending University-related events in Boulder, and I enjoyed excellent hospitality in the dining scene. Care plan received: Vitals check for a checkpoint for detox. (Location: Foothills Emergency Department). The check-in process was highly seamless, and every protocol was followed professionally. The hospital was immaculate and well-organized. They use the MyChart system, similar to the EPIC EMR used in multiple hospitals in the Bay Area, including Kaiser Permanente, Stanford, and others. My vitals were logged as "normal," I was released within 10 minutes with a report of my "after-visit summary." Upon scrutiny of the situation, I was guided by the attending MD (Dr. Stephen MacDade, MD) and RNs that there were no reasons for my visit to the hospital initiated by the Boulder PD, who advised me to take the step to fight my case instead of having a case with my license at jeopardy with my career. I highly acknowledged their guidance, and they ensured that I got my Uber ride from the armed security area during my release. Payment Options: Claire from the Financial Services Team called multiple times to check on me and took steps to provide me with options for financial assistance, including options for a reduction of payment given my insurance issues with my job changes at check-in time. The hospital's provision of financial assistance options relieved me of potential financial burdens, further enhancing my positive experience. This was the first time I experienced elder abuse at the hands of medical professionals and I checked myself out of the hospital days early due to how I was treated. I never much thought about how important it is to have support in hospital settings but I guess it depends on the hospital. I previously had decent experiences at this hospital and went out of my way to schedule surgery there, however, my last encounter was like being trapped in a horror movie, one horrid experience after another. I would never go there again, given other options. I didn't have anyone bedside advocating for me, and they took full advantage of it. I told them I was a head injury survivor and again, it felt like they took full advantage of it. I felt very unsafe and uncared for in this hospital. I went out of my way to schedule my surgery at BCH because previous experiences were not terrible however, in my recent 4-night stay, I discovered that: * You may not expect to be treated respectfully * Yes, you may be spoken to disrespectfully * Yes, you may be lied to by nurses about your treatment. * Yes, you may experience insensitivity and unkindness, regardless of anything you do. * No, you absolutely may not have your medicines on time - They consistently missed their mark and I was in enormous pain post-surgery but my 'scheduled' medicines were dispensed on time only 25% of the time at best, and only if I started asking for them 30 mins before they were due. * Yes, you may have to wander the halls searching for your nurse to give you your pain meds as much as 90 mins late. By day 3, I had heard "I'm sorry" dozens of times for mistakes they made and the treatment I received. Over and over and over again, they were sorry. I'm sorry we had to wake you up for lab work at 4 am even though I specifically requested to sleep since I hadn't slept in 3 days. They were not going to be inconvenienced for my health or my rest. I'm sorry we're late with your medicines. I'm sorry your CNA was rude to you. By day 3, I'm sorry was their mantra. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. If there is one thing you can count on, it is that they are very, very sorry. They are very, very sorry and very, very busy. This is indeed a very sorry place filled with very sorry staff and sorry behaviors and sorry excuses and I dare say, this is one really, really, sorry place. If you go there, there is a good chance, you will be sorry too. I received my meds late more than 50% of the time of my stay, sometimes as late as 90 minutes. Again, these were post-surgical pain meds so their inactions caused me a lot of extra pain and loss of sleep in my experience. Twice in 4 days, I had to wander the halls searching for my nurse to dispense medications they were 90 minutes late with. It was just crazy. For my farewell gift, when I was discharged on day 5, (at MY request), they forgot to put my prescriptions in my checkout package so I had to drive 35 mins back to get them and it was hours before I would get any rest. I really enjoy horror and this place really is, the things that nightmares are made of. You might have an okay experience but if have a bad one, it might be like nothing you could have imagined. If you are looking for a hospital near Boulder, Colorado, keep driving and take a different exit. There are lots of other hospitals within a short distance. If you flip through the reviews, you'll see some good and some bad, worthy of mentioning that there are twice as many bad reviews as there are good ones. At Boulder Community Hospital, it could go either way. I believe all those who wanted to give them zero stars but had to put at least one. I felt the same way. This really is a God-awful horrible excuse for a hospital, especially if you are a senior. read more

My 88 yo mother/law was recently a patient after a fall and broken hip required surgery. We are a family of various healthcare professionals and were involved with her care from the beginning. It seemed the discharge planners main goal was to get the patient out under any means necessary in order to increase the profit margin under the designated DRG. My husband spoke with the discharge planner several times and explained we wanted to talk to the potential post rehab SNIF facility to ensure it's reputation and care for our 88 yo mother. My husband was in the hospital visiting his mother and spoke in person with the case manager. It was not stated that they were planning on discharge that very same day. My husband left only to get a call a few hours later, not from the hospital, but from his frantic 88 yo mother at 4:30pm that they were discharging her. She had no idea where she was going nor did we get a call. They discharged this 88yo women with zero dignity. In fact, they placed her in a Rehab transport van with only an open hospital gown. No undergarments, no robe and not even shoes on her feet. She had her own clothes and they could have taken even 5 minutes to help her dress. Shame on this hospital for not having enough care and respect for a patient. Especially an elderly patient. As a nurse of 19 years married to a Healthcare Administrator and sister in law to a Nurse Practitioner, I am appalled that profits exceed compassion. Shame on all of you for playing a part in embarrassing and belittling an elderly patient. Our beloved family member. You need Nurse Navigators back or someone who can begin discharge planning at the onset of admission and keeping a family involved. Get a simple check sheet and make sure the boxes are ticked. We brought a family member of ours in who had sepsis in her kidney from kidney stones. They admitted her into the hospital because she would die otherwise. She is very sick. Now they're refusing to give her surgery to remove the stones and making her go back to Mississippi because she can't pay. They have told us exactly this. It's all about money. She spent her life serving people and they have decided that money is more important than care. She will have to drive all the way back to Mississippi with a kidney stone stuck in her ureter because they're too greedy to take it out. They have done the bare minimum to get her well enough to kick her out. Morally, this place should be ashamed. I hope that everyone who had any part in this decision knows that they have thoroughly fucked up and I hope that someday they regret this. read more

If I could post negative five stars I would. I have never had such an awful experience at a hospital. We took my dad here because suddenly he couldn't lift his right leg at all. They did all the things you'd think in the ER, checked for stroke, did MRI of his pelvis and leg, etc. and couldn't come to a definitive diagnosis and decided to admit him. My dad has been on low dose prednisone for over 6 months, so I told them that to make sure he would continue to get it as I know it's very dangerous to just stop abruptly. I found out five days later, they never gave him any prednisone during those five days. As a consequence, his blood sugar was all over the place. And oh, btw, they found out he had a "silent" heart attack because his tropinin levels were elevated. My dad has had low pressure for the last year (100/60), so when they said they were going to put him on lopressor to lower blood pressure, I expressed my dismay. He was like a Zombie the next three days, groggy, incoherent, unresponsive. I kept getting lab tests showing he was anemic, but after the first 24 hours, I never heard from the doctors. I finally called saying I needed to talk to someone. When I came by to see my dad, the attending physician comes by, so I ask to speak with him and ask him about what's wrong with my dad and what the plan for treatment was. He said: "Your dad doesn't seem that with it. He's 88 years old, so he's basically circling the drain, what do you want me to do?" I was shocked that any doctor would speak like that. I almost broke down in tears. I made a formal complaint with KePro (oversight for Medicare) and with the state. The next day, another doctor was equally rude, threatening to hang up on me while talking on the phone. Then when I had talked to the social worker about my dad going to Flatirons Rehab, I was told they wouldn't take him. They told me the doctor's note said he had severe dementia and they wouldn't take someone like that. I'm guessing he appeared that way because of the meds he was on. We ended up taking him home -- his leg wasn't any better than it was when we took him in. I guess we're lucky he didn't actually end up dead. They finally were nice the day I took him home, I'm guessing because they got word of my complaint. I will never take a loved one here, nor will I go here for any procedure. read more

Been in the hospital as an inpatient.in orthopedic floor.was treated like dirt.they gave me the wrong med and I became mentally ill.i had to ask many times and luckily they had a phone in the room and I called a shrink for the anti dote drug.it worked and i became better.but the nurse refused to let me have the drug boulder hospital discrimates .a patient does have some rights.on another occasion I was homeless and had a severe hand infection that was very painful.ovens to the er and was given a pain med I couldn't tolerate.i asked to exchange it a bd a woman nurse hit my injured hand with her fist knocked the pill out of my hand.refused to let me exchange the drug,next day my hand had turned black from infection and a Dr called to let me get treatment.the abuse of patients is common there .if u have no lawyer they treat u bad. I had a horrible experience at Boulder Community Hospital a few years ago. It started with an ear infection that i got treated at an urgent care center, they gave me medication that I had a severe allergic reaction to, so at the urging of my co-workers I went to the hospital to check it out. I had a skin rash all over my face, neck, and arms and was vomiting. I made a point to ask the nurse at the front desk how much the visit would cost me since I had NO health insurance (I couldn't afford it working my $10/hr job). She said and I quote, "You won't have to pay anything, let's just get you checked out!" Little did I know she meant I didn't have to pay for anything THAT DAY. The doctor came in, looked at me, told me to stop taking the antibiotics I was prescribed (which I had already done DUH) and wrote me a prescription for my rash. He was literally in the room with me for less than 3 minutes. A nurse came in after he left and told me that my total for visiting the ER was going to be around $600!!! SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. I explained to her what the front desk woman said to me about not having to pay... and the nurse in the room looked at me like I was nuts. After many, many phone calls to the billing department... not only did BCH force me to pay $600 for the visit-- the doctor charged me an extra $280 for his separate fee. I called his office/receptionist to ask about the outrages fees and explained to her that he only saw me for 3 minutes... she sent me to collections! I was out almost $900 and paying that off for over a year! Not only was the doctor incompetent and not helpful, the nurse was being tricky and flat out lied to me. If I knew of all the fees they would charge I would have left BCH immediately and returned to work and gotten over my allergic reaction on my own. I got charged almost $900 to be told something I already knew... stop taking the antibiotics. I now thankfully have health insurance, but BCH made me weary of doctors, nurses, and hospitals forever. read more

Go to UC Health in Broomfield instead. I have been to foot ills hospital several times due to large open swollen lesions on different parts of my body that I believe are being caused by cancer. All they have been able to do is try to give me an antibiotic for what is clearly not a bacterial infection. Long wait times, and it honestly seems to me like the doctors here will go out of their way to be unhelpful for you. Don't waste your time, even in an emergency.. go somewhere else. read more

In general, the hospital and related offices are really good. The wait is sometimes long or unpredictable, but the service is usually good, sometimes great. Unfortunately, when things aren't good, they're often really bad, like the time my foot got infected after surgery and the doctor jabbing the needle into the wound wasn't all that concerned with being gentle. That was one heck of a rough night. She got the job done, though, and I'm sure that's more important than worrying too much about reducing pain. My healthy foot and I thank her for taking care of the infection. Even though I was misdiagnosed twice when I had viral meningitis many years ago, the ER staff eventually saved my life, and even though he missed it twice, the doctor who saw me knew I was sick. He never made me feel like my illness was in my head, even though I suppose it literally was. I'll never forget the thorough care I was given after the diagnosis was confirmed and am forever grateful. The nurses, all of them, on the 2nd floor where I stayed almost two weeks were incredibly kind and good to me. My care in the hospital back then was exceptional. I didn't get a good aftercare plan, but I left alive, something even I didn't expect. I have nothing but respect for all the people who work long hours in hospitals. Talk about a demanding job! There were times when I landed in the ER, and my treatment was sufficient but not given with much compassion, which is OK but not ideal. Mostly, though, the entire staff at this hospital is kind. I had an issue with one very rude volunteer once, but, for the most part, volunteers there are exceptionally nice and knowledgeable and really go out of their way to offer help. My most recent stay was fine, mostly. I had an excellent surgeon, really amazing, and I was treated well, except for one nurse who seemed reluctant to help me in several ways and then served me hot (not warm) tap water. I'm not fussy and don't mind tap water at all, but I prefer it at room temperature or colder and not cloudy. These are minor issues, but when you're hurting and alone, they seem large. Still, that one issue aside, everything else was just fine if you don't count the bill. In the end, it will be close to $70,000 for one operation and one night in the hospital. Even with insurance, I'll be struggling to pay what remains. It was a necessity, though. Oh, and since I usually do food reviews, I have to say that you definitely don't want to go here for the "meals" they serve patients. I got soupy cottage cheese and a small amount of dried up cantaloupe for breakfast, and it took over an hour for the kitchen to get it to me. At one point I was so hungry that I would have given some salty broth I was handed five stars. In a not so starved state, I'd drop that to about a two. I wasn't there for the food, however, so it's not a big deal. I hope I don't have to go back, but if I do, I'm fairly confident that the treatment I receive will be good, at the minimum. read more

You all suck! The receptionist would make a better nurse than the nurses and doctors do. At least they acted like they cared about what a patient is going through. My blood pressure was 148 / 102 as a result of the pain I was experiencing while I was uncontrollably writhing and groaning from the pounding nails sensation in my jaw where half my wisdom tooth chipped off. When they checked me in, 12/23/23, the nurses were very brief and not too concerned about the reason for my visit. Asking me about things that had no relevance to my visit. Once I told them that my wisdom tooth was in great pain pounding like pounding a nail into my jaw from being half chipped off to the gums. They were quick to leave me in the room for over 45 minutes after lying to me. They told me the doctor will be with me soon, which he wasn't. They only lied to me and made me wait indefinitely with no expectation to actually give me medical care. While groaning in extreme pain in the room unattended over 30 minutes had gone by before I thought it necessary to begin asking when I was going to be seen for the first time. I opened the door and politely asked the condescending nurse sitting across from me when I was going to be seen. They literally act as though their own false judgement is more accurate than the claims of the patient who took the time and energy at 1:00 in the morning to have medical attention on an issue that was too excruciating to deal with. The nurse at the desk across from my room lied to me knowing full well they were intentionally neglecting me when she said I was going to be next. During the time in the room I could hear the Doctor visiting with a patient. The visit I could hear ended, but nobody came to my room. Another 15 minutes went by with no medical attention at a so called Emergency Department where I had expectation of professionalism I was met with rude condescending people who literally had no concern to help me, but rudely with complete egotistical attitudes instantly gave me one ultimatum having no medical concern for me being there to go in the room and wait for undisclosed period of time after 45 minutes had already passed, or leave. They, by no means were attempting to be nice, or friendly during any point of their interactions with me. I felt, and due to their complete neglect to care for the public they are hired to serve chose to leave. After their display of a condescending attitude towards me I had no interest in subjecting myself to the manipulative half hazard treatment that would be expected after the attitudes and behavior already displayed. These people don't deserve to work in this capacity to the public having this degree of actions based on their judgemental, self conceived agendas that cause them to act on their own selfish inconsiderate perception. Imaging dept required my husband to arrive 1 hour before his imaging appt. We had to call from the parking lot to register due to Covid restrictions. Registration took 2 minutes. Then we were told to wait in the lot until our scheduled time! They called after 15 minutes and told us to come in because it was 3 degrees out! We were then told by the imaging receptionist that we were very early for our appt. I reiterated to her that we were told to come in early. When we were finally called in at our appointed time, I questioned the tech about the time issue. The receptionist interrupted to give her opinion, I told her to be quiet because I wasn't speaking to her but she continued to interrupt. She then threatened to call Security because I was being "aggressive." I observed her later haranguing a young woman who was waiting to shadow a staff member, without having been asked to get involved. Apparently customer service isn't an important component in patient care. 1 hour early is ridiculous to demand. Patients are stressed and anxious, and staff responsibility is supposed to be to smooth over the visit. read more

Arrived alone at the ER experiencing heart palpitations and almost passing out, full-on panic mode. Was immediately seen and tested. The doctors and nurses were great even the one who told me sternly to calm down because let's be honest, I was being a little dramatic. Everyone was super professional and caring. Was given meds and referrals. Good experience that I hope to never revisit. read more

Ambulace to the ER was excellent. The unprofessional service i recieved one arrived was lightly put poor. A dirty hand with half of my hand cut off down the palm and you would think they would clean my hand. Nope the just flushed the wound temporarily patched it up and put a some what of a cast on it for support. Bandage my dirty hand (from working with power tools) and just about sent me out without any pain killers as they said to go to a pharmacy and get pain killes. It wasnt utill i told them that by this time pharmacies would be closed that they gave me painkillers. Also i should mention that the hand surgent on call the next day while in his office was very surprised that the ER did not call him. read more

Fix your parking deficiencies. Driving around for twenty minutes fruitlessly looking for parking is not good for anyone's health or well being. The reception staff in the mammography department are so warm and caring one might think HR had recruited them from the morgue. Not good enough. read more

My wife had heart surgery here yesterday. She's going home healthy tomorrow. What they can do with robotics is truly a miracle. Doctors and nurses were fantastic. Especially Erica in the ICU. I can't imagine working so closely with people in pain, day in and day out but she was great. We are so grateful. read more

My vagina is falling out of my body partly due to severe spinal issues. My doctor sent me to the ER because I can't eat or potty. I sat in an exam room and froze for 2 hours while absolutely nothing was done to help me. I was being referred to a doctor who I already called and has no openings for 3 weeks. I called over 20 doctors and could not get an appointment for almost a month, that is why my doctor sent me to the ER. I called my doctor and told them I got no help and he told me, "I guess you will have to go ER to ER to ER until someone finally helps you." What the hell is wrong with this world? I am sure a man with his penis falling off would have flight for life and a huge surgical team immediately, but since I am a women I am sent on my way to starve with my vagina falling out. read more

I've only been a patient at this hospital once and that was for a lactation consult. I have had many other experiences with this hospital that make it a very happy place for me. I first heard about BCH from my sister who was planning on delivering there. After her tour of the hospital she raved about the facilities- queen sized beds in the recovery rooms, attached rooms to NICU rooms, views of the Flat Irons, etc, etc. I took my childbirth prep class here (private class) and really enjoyed it. It ended up being very useful because I went into labor later that night (although I delivered in Longmont since I was living there at the time). As I said I had a lactation consult here and was very pleased with it- they scheduled a 1.5-2hr block for me and I was able to have a great discussion with the LC before my baby woke up and didn't feel pressured on time (big difference from my experience at Longmont). I now go to BCH on a weekly basis as I attend the Mom and Baby Yoga class they offer, and I stay for lunch at their wonderful cafeteria (cheap and delicious food). They offer so many events for new mothers- Weekly Breastfeeding Club, New Moms Group, Yoga, New Moms Tea (which I still need to try). BCH is a fantastic hospital! read more

I had the best hospital experience I could have had here. No one wants to be in the hospital but I felt like I was being well taken care of and I'm good hands. The nursing staff were very attentive and helpful. My surgeon was also very skilled and made me feel at ease. Most importantly, I didn't have to wait long times at all to receive care. The rooms are really nice and the food was pretty good- I even got fresh smoothies! Best hospital experience I've had. read more

I had a couple simple xrays done and was charged an obscene amount of money. My insurance - which they accepted paid the contracted rate and I was billed the difference. When I complaint about their inflated billing I was told these were standard rates which is not true. To top it all off I had asked what the cost would be before I had the xrays and was told "we can't tell you since you have insurance". When I complaint and brought that to the managers attention they said I should have been told upfront and seemed to doubt that I asked. So patient beware - shady billing practices. I will get my healthcare elsewhere. read more

Admitted late last year for scheduled surgery. Everything went well and the care was reasonably good -- some nurses were overworked and impatient, but for the most part, everyone was very kind. HOWEVER, beware of the hospital trying to substitute drugs on you. I talked to them in advance, as required, about drugs I take daily. They took notes, said don't worry, we're on it. Then, on the day after my surgery, I was supposed to take a drug that was required by one of my doctors. They brought an entirely different drug that wasn't the same at all. THe nurse told me that "Oh our pharmacy says this is the same thing." I know better. It wasn't. I told them so. And, I told them that I had been warned about this from my doctor and I had brought my own pill of the correct drug. I took it. That pissed them off, but I didn't care. They had NO business trying to fob off a different prescription on me just because their inhouse pharmacy wanted to substitute something that wasn't the same. So, if you are depending on specific drugs, check very carefully that they WILL give you the right ones. And, I suggest you bring your own pills in case they don't. It's your life they're messing with. Other than that, the food, care, etc. was quite good. read more

I'm writing this immediately after being discharged from the Foothills Hospital emergency room, and specifically because I believe it deserves a higher rating. I was seen quickly (which can be a lot to ask of a medical center, especially with covid still being around), effectively/efficiently diagnosed, and treated with respect. I could tell that the staff was doing there best to relate to me and ensure I was comfortable, as well to make sure I understood what was going on and what I should expect following my visit. I was not blown away by this place, but I was able to receive excellent treatment, along with peace of mind, at an ungodly hour from some very kind people who likely deserve to be paid more. I'm very grateful for the privilege to be able to visit a place like this at a moments notice, and will be returning to it if I need it in the future. read more

Could I give this place 6 stars? I am not a fan of hospitals but going in for a CT scan, I walked into an open space filled with windows. No crowds - just a few folks in the waiting area. A friendly gentleman greeted us at the front door and showed us to a kiosk. I took a number and got ready to settle in and wait. But before I could even sit down, my number was called to register. The gentleman who registered me was also kind and friendly and got me registered quickly and sent me on to the imaging area. A receptionist greeted me and gave me paperwork to fill out. The waiting area was comfortable and bright. I waited a short time - maybe 15 minutes - and then Karen came out to get me. I explained that I was pretty freaked out to be there and she was very kind and patient. They let my family member come back with me and stay with me as they did the IV and he was always within earshot. Knowing this would be tough enough for me, they scheduled me for the CT with the widest opening and Karen spoke with me through the entire thing to help me feel more comfortable. It was also nice that the woman who came to get me for the CT was also the nurse who gave me the IV contrast and took the images. The entire thing took maybe 10 minutes and I was on my way. Very positive experience. I will definitely go back to Boulder Community Foothills Hospital if I need another scan in the future. read more

Great hospital with the best doctors, nurses, and medical staff. Been in here for outpatient surgery twice, with my kids for pediatric appointments and for my mother-in-law several times. Every time we received the best care, accurate billing and were treated with kindness, respect and care. Thank you Foothills! read more

The admin staff worked efficiently and got me into a room within 15 minutes at most, despite being a little busy due to a snow storm mid-May. The nursing staff and Nikki were kind to me and my girlfriend, very gentle, and made me feel as comfortable as I could have been in that much discomfort. We even shared a few laughs and some nice conversation. Dr. McCabe was professional and very understanding of my injury and pain. I hope I don't have to go back anytime soon, but I would be lucky to end up back in the care of this team! read more

I was taken to the ER for a chronic condition I have and was treated accordingly, and that all went as well as could be expected. The problems started when I was discharged, around 7:30 p.m., and told that a cab was on the way to take me home, courtesy of Medicaid. So I sat down in the lobby and waited. And waited. And waited and waited and waited... for HOURS. When I asked if anyone knew what was going on, the staff at the ER desk were indifferent at best. Some even acted like I was a being nuisance, but I did not ask to be stranded at the hospital. They told me very nonchalantly that sometimes people had to wait all night for a cab. If they had bothered to tell me that in the first place, I could have taken the bus and been home by 9:00. But instead I was given a courtesy ride home by the police, past 2:00 a.m., having never seen a cab, and was too exhausted to go to work in the morning. I wish I had never gone to the ER. It was SO not worth all that. Then I noticed the false information on my discharge papers, stating that I was seen for a condition that I don't even have. I spoke to a patient representative who wouldn't tell me why or even ask the doctor to call me. So I filed a grievance and the hospital responded with a totally impersonal, robotic form letter. NOT good enough after lying on my discharge papers AND costing me a day's pay. So I wrote them another letter. That resulted in a phone call from a patient representative who really did seem to care. She asked what she could do to help resolve the issues and I believe she actually did do what she could. I finally did get a call from the ER doctor, who said the wrong information shouldn't have been on my discharge papers (you think?) but couldn't explain why it was there. And in the end I received the same disinterested, LAME form letter. I may as well have voiced my concerns to a brick wall. Apparently by state law I have to submit a request form to have my record changed, and IF a doctor agrees, it will be changed. And even then, the false information will still be there with a note about the amendment. I have to say I think it is absolute B.S. that a doctor can be allowed by law to keep a LIE on someone's medical record. (I WILL be speaking to an attorney about this.) None of my concerns were resolved and with the exception of one or two people, they couldn't have cared less. For the most part they seem to have no conscience, and for an institution that is in the business of caring for people, that is really disturbing. The way they handle grievances is pathetic and downright insulting. Patients deserve MUCH better than that. It nauseates me that BCH is the closest hospital to where I live. I hope I'm out of town if I ever have to go the ER again. read more
