I was admitted to the Boulder Foothills Hospital Emergency Department in Colorado on July 21, 2025…read morefor 'seizure-like activity.' The ER physician misdiagnosed the symptoms as 'psychosis' and arranged for me to be placed on an M1 hold (involuntary psychiatric commitment) and transferred to Cedar Springs Hospital psychiatric institution in Colorado Springs later that day, although in his own notes he claimed I was not 'agitated,' 'depressed,' or 'in distress.' This assessment was not competent and was gravely in error. Perhaps I should have been sedated with Ativan and Versed if necessary to control the convulsions and connected to EEG in some form of effort to diagnose the seizures, which would not have been difficult or expensive, although this would not have allowed the hospital to bill my insurance for very much money. Two days later, on July 23, 2025, I was transferred to the UC Memorial Health Center ER in Colorado Springs by ambulance from Cedar Springs Hospital and placed under intensive care due to asphyxiation from choking on vomit during tonic clonic seizures. The staff at Cedar Springs claimed I had fallen and hit my head at their facility, which my care team at Memorial Hospital was able to find no evidence of. I was put on a ventilator and a tracheal tube was inserted to clean the vomit out of my lungs. By that point I already had pneumonia. Simply rolling me onto my side may have prevented the issue. Rather, the staff at Cedar Springs only offered stern lectures regarding my 'misbehavior,' which were not helpful. I was only offered food with choking hazards and given lit cigarettes at the facility. I was in and out of the seizures for about three days, completely cut off from any possible access to medical attention, before I lost consciousness. My next memory is of the feeding tube being removed at Memorial Hospital. To quote an MD from the Memorial Hospital case notes on July 23, "The specific organ or organ systems failed or in danger of failing were Cardiovascular, Neurological, and Respiratory." To quote his colleague on July 24, "Patient's condition is life-threatening and without ongoing intervention would deteriorate." A third Physician on July 26 noted, "BH [Behavior Health] evaluated him and he is NOT gravely disabled and does not meet any M1 hold criteria," and, "This pt [patient] has Epilepsy." This was the neurologist who observed the tonic clonic seizures on EEG. I was discharged from Memorial Hospital and sent home later that day. Fortunately I am now nine months seizure-free. Respiratory failure and tonic clonic seizure are known to cause permanent death of brain tissue and irreversible injury to the brain, and may cause sudden-onset death. Would not reccommend.

Uh - it's a sad review. I have been to this hospital, several times…read more My last ED visit they kept trying to d/c me and my husband was insisted something was wrong and they needed to do add'l testing. If it wasn't for him, I could've died. After testing was done, they figured out what was wrong and they're incapable of intubating me. And, Flight for Life needed to transport me that same day, hospital is incapable of dealing with urgency of my care. My last two ED visits were so annoying! I've been admitted, multiple times and duration of my stay, I've always been released, prior than anticipated. One nurse was unable to get an IV into my vein correctly. It was bleeding out onto the floor, then tried to leave mee, while I'm bleeding all over the floor. My husband said, you need to fix the IV, my wife is bleeding all over the floor! You can't just leave her like that!! At my last hospitalization, I was assaulted by one of the RNs! She had the audacity, to tell me, I'm not entitled to break through pain meds! I told her, look lady, I've been on these meds for decades! I have fairly extensive knowledge of my meds, my illnesses and I know, what I'm talking about! The scary part, she didn't have basic knowledge meds. Plus, dealing with her, made myself exhausted! She fought with me, instead of checking and speaking with my physician and/or physician on-duty! Plus, it was recommended, I was in receipt of antibiotics, through IV, due to secondary infection. The physician ordered it, as soon, as it was decided, I would be discharged early, to go home. I was getting ready to leave, here comes that RN, insistently, made attempts to give it to me, it was the same antibiotics, same dosage, twice! I warned her that I've already, received such antibiotics and she didn't want to listen to me, I adamantly refused! Now, if, I was not in full state of mind, this nurse would've over drugged me! I have an immunosuppressed system, my liver was already failing, my GFR# continues upwards & at that time, we're unaware, my liver is diseased. We were diagnosed with cirrhosis, I returned to my specialist and she corrected me, stating it was diseased, not failed. I've got already complicated, rare kidney disease, stage III, diagnosed in 1999. I continue to go to this hospital because it's about 3 mi away from our home and by the time I need to get medical attention, this is the closest medical facility from our home. Everything else it's about 10 mi or more away from our home. The rooms are single occupancy and food is very good for hospital food. However, I suffered a stroke, fell down a flight of stairs, broke a few ribs and suffered a seizure before the EMTs got mee into the ambulance and they suggested we go to Good Sam's instead. So, they took mee to Good Sam's for hospitalization, in the ICU, because they're capable of treating me, instead of returning back to Avista.

While she was an impatient I cannot speak highly enough of her care. Nursing, PT and OT collaborated to get my wife back on her feet - more or less - and as a retired healthcare practitioner myself, I can testify that the care provided was outstanding. The unit was immaculate and the meals were PDG if my wife's comments can be relied on. But, and you knew it was coming .... Once she was discharged the story changes. She required PT and OT after discharge to home. The case manager, Erica, handed me a list of providers, none of which satisfied both needs; PT and OT. I was expected to weed out the good from the bad and get the services set up myself. But, as it was explained to me, these services are supposed to be in place before her discharge, and when I asked the case manager to help she did next to nothing except give me a phone number I already had. So, feeling desperate for occupational therapy I contacted an OT at the Rehab unit, Fara, who expressed concern that my wife had not received the OT that was ordered. I asked her for recommendations for a private pay OT and she indicated that, as she said, "I'll circle around tomorrow and let you know what I come up with", and that was the last I heard from her, or anyone from the Rehab unit. I cannot express my disappointment in these 2 employees strongly enough. I called the nurses station a few times after that and left messages, but Erica or Fara never contacted me - My wife and I were abandoned by these bad news bears, who said they would help us and then did nothing. The fact that my wife is 81 years old only made our predicament worse. I am stunned by the collapse of professional ethics, and frankly, the lack of integrity, kindness and compassion displayed by these folks are equally disturbing. If these two were allowed to get away with such behavior, then perhaps the entire Rehab unit should be investigated for their adherence to ethical practices and the wholesome delivery of care, especially to elders who deserved much better. I smell ageism.... and it doesn't smell good.
