I sent my 18 year-old twins in for an annual exam and they didn't give them the meningicoccal vaccine you need to go to college, so I made a nurse's appointment for today to have the vaccine given. After sitting there for 15 min, I was told we had to wait for a provider to put the order in but our doctor wasn't here today so they were trying to get another provider to put it in. I am so frustrated. read more

The ER at BCH is a very valuable asset to Boulder. It is the only hospital in the city though no longer in the heart of the city as it was decades ago. It's on the east suburb area so in afternoon traffic of workers going home from Boulder, the drive can be slow. In a clear emergency, call an ambulance as they are most efficient here. I had a small household emergency involving a box cutter and a finger which has never happened to me in all the decades I have used one frequently and I clearly needed treatment. We arrived out there, were processed quickly and then waited. There were many people in with viral illnesses and they asked the few of us with small injuries to take seats further from the seats of those clearly infectious. They also offered free masks to all. None of those sick seemed interested but the injured all took and used one. We were called in reasonably soon and waited for a doc in a treatment room that was well equipped. He arrived after a short wait and went about the business of assessing the injury and started work. Yes it certainly needed stitches and he did some pretty fancy ones to secure the end of my finger for good healing and seal the "leaks." We waited a longer time for the medical assistant to clean up and wrap the wound. But we got out in time for me to get home in time to at least catch the last part of a Zoom meeting I had scheduled that afternoon. read more

I was admitted to the Boulder Foothills Hospital Emergency Department in Colorado on July 21, 2025 for 'seizure-like activity.' The ER physician misdiagnosed the symptoms as 'psychosis' and arranged for me to be placed on an M1 hold (involuntary psychiatric commitment) and transferred to Cedar Springs Hospital psychiatric institution in Colorado Springs later that day, although in his own notes he claimed I was not 'agitated,' 'depressed,' or 'in distress.' This assessment was not competent and was gravely in error. Perhaps I should have been sedated with Ativan and Versed if necessary to control the convulsions and connected to EEG in some form of effort to diagnose the seizures, which would not have been difficult or expensive, although this would not have allowed the hospital to bill my insurance for very much money. Two days later, on July 23, 2025, I was transferred to the UC Memorial Health Center ER in Colorado Springs by ambulance from Cedar Springs Hospital and placed under intensive care due to asphyxiation from choking on vomit during tonic clonic seizures. The staff at Cedar Springs claimed I had fallen and hit my head at their facility, which my care team at Memorial Hospital was able to find no evidence of. I was put on a ventilator and a tracheal tube was inserted to clean the vomit out of my lungs. By that point I already had pneumonia. Simply rolling me onto my side may have prevented the issue. Rather, the staff at Cedar Springs only offered stern lectures regarding my 'misbehavior,' which were not helpful. I was only offered food with choking hazards and given lit cigarettes at the facility. I was in and out of the seizures for about three days, completely cut off from any possible access to medical attention, before I lost consciousness. My next memory is of the feeding tube being removed at Memorial Hospital. To quote an MD from the Memorial Hospital case notes on July 23, "The specific organ or organ systems failed or in danger of failing were Cardiovascular, Neurological, and Respiratory." To quote his colleague on July 24, "Patient's condition is life-threatening and without ongoing intervention would deteriorate." A third Physician on July 26 noted, "BH [Behavior Health] evaluated him and he is NOT gravely disabled and does not meet any M1 hold criteria," and, "This pt [patient] has Epilepsy." This was the neurologist who observed the tonic clonic seizures on EEG. I was discharged from Memorial Hospital and sent home later that day. Fortunately I am now nine months seizure-free. Respiratory failure and tonic clonic seizure are known to cause permanent death of brain tissue and irreversible injury to the brain, and may cause sudden-onset death. Would not reccommend. read more

Grossly negligent. The ER does more harm than good. It is as simple as that; they seem to lack the resources and competences to accurately help their patients. It is worth the extra 15 to go to the ER in Louisville if time allows. read more

I took my husband to the BCH Emergency Department last week after weeks of pain and bleeding from kidney stones. We were sent there by the UC Health emergency room because his catheter needed to be irrigated by a urologist, and BCH had one on call. Although we knew the ER had been called to expect us and we believed a urologist had been notified, the ER doc and ER staff were slow and dismissive, with one exception. My husband was in the worst pain of his life. The doctor spent less than two minutes with us, and his query was "Why are you here? We aren't in network". When we explained, he literally walked away, saying he had another patient. We asked for pain medication repeatedly, and I even left the room to find someone who could help. I was told that I needed to stay in the room and we'd be seen when they had time. The only staff member who helped at all was a wonderful nurse, Justin. Although he said the urologist had not been called or consulted, he finally got my husband some medication and replaced his clogged catheter. The next morning I rushed my husband to UC Health Longs Peak. He was in septic shock and terrible pain. Immediately , we had a team of people attending to him. He has now been in the ICU for a week, and infection is finally under control, and the urologist on call was able to stop the bleeding. We have supported BCH for years, both financially and through service on the Foundation Board. I will never recommend the emergency room to anyone and want to file a formal complaint. It's a disgrace that such a good hospital has such a terrible emergency department. I would rate them a zero. read more

I've been screwed over at Boulder Community Health in every way imaginable. TODAY they cancelled my critically needed life saving surgery because I was 15 minutes late, 2:15 early for the actual procedure. OK my fault but seriously these clowns don't know what the word triage means. I'm dying of heart disease and now they say they can't reschedule me for months. This is outrageous. All because I got stuck in traffic. These clowns are the worst and I've had enough. I'm now looking at finding another hospital and thinking of just heading to the ER to help expedite the sitch. I've been lied to, delays, suckered, and had my insurance milked by these bastads for long enough. If I'm going to die of incompetence, I'm not going down without at least complaining about it. Boulder Community is the worst. read more

The billing department is horrible. Despite 3-4 phone calls and emails explaining that our insurance had a mishap in covering our 20 week ultrasound (too long to explain in a review) but that it would be figured out and that I was actively communicating with my insurance company, they sent us to collections. When I asked what happened, they said that communication didn't matter with them unless you were on a payment plan. Crazy! Use UC Heath or Common Spirit instead. read more

I used to have a great physician at a BCH Erie location (Dr. Grasmick) and he retired. Was sad to see him go, but happy for him. Then enters this guy Joshua Taylor. Immediately he wanted to completely change my meds and add pharmaceuticals and take me off of TRT. I was very unhappy and thought, what do you as a young fresh guy out of college think you know everything? You don't think the patient knows his/her own body. I told him I feel great and he said "I am sure you do." He clearly thought Dr. Grasmick didn't know what he was doing and that is disgusting. Joshua Taylor would not listen to me and in fact, misdiagnosed me. I had him remove a skin tag and he said it was a wart. I told him to test it and it came back from the lab that I was right and he was not happy I was right. He even sneered and said sarcastically "Congratulations". What an Ahole! He also did not have any sense of urgency when I needed a replacement CPAP (left it in a London cab). I finally had enough flew off the handle because my wife couldn't sleep, I couldn't sleep and in fact it is dangerous to be without my CPAP (I call it my don't die machine)! This so-called "doctor" drug his feet on a very important medical device I needed. His "assistant" also was terrible at responding so I flew off the handle. He then proceeded to scold me like a child and hold my medical device prescription hostage until I apologized. I would absolutely give ZERO stars If I could. This so-called "Doctor" Joshua Taylor is horrible horrible horrible. He is an egotistical, know-it-all, and blow-hard. I vehemently suggest you go somewhere else and don't use this person, ever! read more

Even though Boulder is the easiest place on the planet to buy opiates off the street, the pinheaded halfwit that saw me had the unmitigated gall to say I was ~drugseeking~ for asking for a refill of what they gave me two weeks ago. Beware of going to BCH or using facilities that bill thru BCH!!!!!!!! My insurance provider reprocessed 8 bills from CU Sports Medicare from 2023. They had paid back in 2023 but reversed payment because of an error in that authorization #. BCH then billed me in May of 2025, yes, 2025. I worked with my insurance provider and the reprocessed 8 payments on June 26, th. On my most recent bill, it showed payment for the first therapy - for June lof 2023, the first therapy session. As of today, they don't show the reprocessed payments for the other 7 sessions ----even tho all payments were sent to BCH on the same day- June 26, today is July 2nd, they still can't find the payments. Caution when having a Charge nurse with the name Paavo at this hospital. My friend who has stage 4 cancer requested her pain meds once before I arrived after 1 hour made 2 more calls requesting pain meds. She called again half hour later and also unplugged her heartbeat/pulse machine from her. The nurse immediately showed up. The Charge nurse Paavo told her it was not time for her meds. My friend argued with him saying it was past time and that the doctor order said as needed every 3 hours. It was almost 5 hours after the last dose. My friend stood her ground and received her overdue pain medication. read more

Boulder Community Hospital was our "go to" for decades. It's not any longer. There isn't enough time in the day to go through everything bad about the ER department. In our experience, there is no follow through or communication between the ER and any subsequent visits with other doctors that you may need to schedule. From our view, it seems that they follow the "out of sight, out of mind" mantra. If you can't get into see the MD they recommend, that's your problem. The hospital's imaging department seems to be an island "entire of itself". In our experience, the imaging department requires a lot of baby sitting to get appointments scheduled as well as to get results shared out to the appropriate channels. If you have to visit the ER at BCH, we believe that you should expect VERY long wait times, even when it's slow. The MD's we've encountered here seem to be on the low end of the professional spectrum. BCH used to be a dependable hospital. It now compares with some of the worst inner city hospitals we've been unlucky enough to experience. In our opinions, unless it's dire, go to any ER other than BCH. Save yourself multiple headaches. read more

The Boulder community health financial department has by far given me the WORST customer service experience I have ever had. I was required to send may most recent pay stubs by email and I have a hard time even explaining how stupid and incompetent the employee that received the email has been. Its very unbelievably obvious that everything I sent in was NOT EVEN LOOKED AT. This whole email thread was stretched out over a week span where I couldn't get a response until the next day at the minimum. Want to call them because they don't answer emails? Nope I have called the financial department over 20 times this week and I haven't been answered once, I also left messages on all of those calls requesting a call back and absolutely nothing. It is incredibly obvious that the department is PURPOSELY doing everything they can to keep my financial appeal from going through until the next calendar month so I have racked up another 3k on my bill. In conclusion if you need any sort of customer service from boulder community health your best option is to talk to a brick wall rather than call or email them. read more

On new year's eve I broke my nose, and that night fainted onto my poor face and, bleeding again, could not recover from fainting. After an ambulance ride at 2:30 AM, I arrived at the ER and was taken to a warm room for care. I appreciate Brandon and Silas, from the ambulance, who were calm, gentle, and helpful, starting my fluid IV, giving me nausea meds.... At the ER, I was treated with wonderful care. My nurse Graham was so thoughtful of my needs, getting a swab for my cotton-mouth as I couldn't breath through bloody nostrils; piling on the warm blankets for my shocky shivers, explaining everything they would do for me. Through my entire 4-ish hour stay, he answered every question and saw to the little details of my comfort, from adjusting lights to setting me back up after return from imaging. The imaging tech got me another hot blanket so I could stop shaking, for the cat scan. Dr. Yu took care of assessing my imaging, explaining the results, referring me to the next step, and he wrote a thoughtful, useful summary for me to take home with my packet of info. My care, imaging, diagnosis all happened in a few short hours as the fluids and rest helped me recover. They even let me stay in the warm room while I called neighbors for a ride home, and they lent me a blanket to wear for the ride. Thanks to you all for the treatment, kindness, and comfort! read more

My recent experience at Boulder Community Health Hospital was outstanding. I was brought in for a detox check while attending University-related events in Boulder, and I enjoyed excellent hospitality in the dining scene. Care plan received: Vitals check for a checkpoint for detox (Location: Foothills Emergency Department). The check-in process was highly seamless, and every protocol was followed professionally. The hospital was immaculate and well-organized. They use the MyChart system, similar to the EPIC EMR used in multiple hospitals in the Bay Area, including Kaiser Permanente, Stanford, and others. My vitals were logged as "normal," and I was released within 10 minutes with a report of my "after-visit summary." Upon scrutiny of the situation, I was guided by the attending MD (Dr. Stephen MacDade, MD) and RNs that there were no reasons for my visit to the hospital initiated by the Boulder PD, who advised me to take the step to fight my case instead of having a case with my license at jeopardy with my career. I highly acknowledged their guidance, and they ensured that I got my Uber ride from the armed security area during my release. Payment Options: Claire from the Financial Services Team called multiple times to check on me and took steps to provide me with options for financial assistance, including options for a reduction of payment given my insurance issues with my job changes at check-in time. The hospital's provision of financial assistance options relieved me of potential financial burdens, further enhancing my positive experience. I highly recommend Boulder Community Health to University students, travelers, and locals. * This will also be shared under the Foothills location* - Thank you! read more

NP Elizabeth Locricchio - if you're looking for a new "doctor" do not pick this one! She's incredibly inhumane. After my doctor of over 10 years retired, I mistakenly chose her as a new one. Within 6 months, she yanked me off medications that I've been on for over a decade cold turkey. She has this "always busy and you're not important" attitude, and doesn't know how to treat patients as humans. She does not care about you as a living being. Chose a different medical center all together. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of BCH. read more

I've had a couple of experiences here. I visited the ER in 2022 for a possible seizure (as I do have a seizure disorder). Dr. Jason Roozeski was assigned my case, and told me that I was making it up, and refused to treat me for seizures. Instead, he said I was just having a panic attack. I had another seizure that day after leaving the ER. If Dr. Roozeski is assigned your case at the ER, you'd be better off just leaving, and going to a different ER, unless you'd like to be invalidated, accused of lying, and not receive proper treatment. In 2024, I had two surgeries at BCH. These experiences were great. The nurses were lovely, and made me feel so safe, comfortable, and prepared. I saw different anesthesiologists both times, but they were both very knowledgeable about my medications, and what type of anesthesia would be best for me given my long list of medications, and complex medical history. So, I recommend the surgery center here, but never the ER. I will never return to this ER, and I would have another surgery here. read more

Based on bloodwork results, the medical provider I saw at the Superior location (Alexandra Thompson) recommended I come back for a second blood draw. I messaged her to make sure that I could come in to any of the locations at any time as she had stated. On the day I was able to go in (because I work for a living), I called ahead to make sure the request was in their system and to confirm that the lab tech would be available. I was told I could come in at any time that day and that it was a good time to come in so I headed over. I checked in with a guy who said the tech would be right with me. As I waited, I noticed that he left to take a break. About 15-20 minutes later, I asked his colleague (the one with the colorful keyboard) if the wait would be much longer and was told that the tech had gone to lunch and would be back in another 20-30 minutes. I told her that "The guy who checked me in didn't tell me that" and she snapped back, "Well, I am telling you now!" I let her know I could not wait for that amount of time and left. I messaged the practice with feedback and received a glib response from Jesus. Then I received a second response from Jesus stating he was the person who checked me in and that he is a "Supervisor" (just what the world needs...another incompetent young person on a power trip). In his response, he glossed over his failure to tell me that the tech was at lunch and said that my name was called right after I left. I feel this demonstrates how unprofessional and dishonest he is because he was not present at the time I left. In my experience, BCH is unwilling and unable to treat patients with basic human decency and when they drop the ball they unapologetically blame everyone but themselves. Sadly, I have noticed that medical practices in Colorado have an influx of patients using Medicaid (which they can "milk" for maximum profit at taxpayer expense). This enables medical staff to be rude to those of us who pay for our own private insurance--and medical practices don't care because it doesn't affect their bottom line. I have accepted at this point that there are no healthcare options for me in Colorado and will have to go out of state and/or do virtual appointments from now on. read more

To rate them honestly would require giving them a negative rating. They do not deserve 1 star. I've had okay experiences at this hospital so I went out of my way to schedule a surgery there instead of a closer hospital. I will not make that mistake again and I will go out of my way to avoid their hellish hospital. I thought I was stuck in a horror movie and felt very unsafe, with the way their nursing staff treated me. I would have to be dying and on death row before I would be admitted to that horrible place again. I convinced my doctor to have me released from the hospital days early since the experience was so god-awful for me, I had to get out. As a long time member of the Boulder Community, I was very disappointed with my experience here. I had an elderly family member here for emergency surgery. That part was done well but the patient relations were awful. Poor communication, misinformation, and open indifference. The so-called case workers were for the most part indifferent and dismissive. After discharge an attempt to get follow up information using the website contact numbers was a time consuming exercise in futility. Overall I was left wondering if because my family member was of advance age and on Medicare she didn't really matter to many who were supposed to be caring for her. I am thankful that I have a different medical plan an so I will never personally have to seek care here. read more

This review is not 1 star because of the quality of care, the care was wonderful, but instead, it is due to the financial assistance and billing offices lack of concern for offering affordable healthcare for those without insurance or without quality insurance. I moved to Colorado this past summer and was unfortunate enough to require an unexpected ovarian removal surgery. I had not secured a job at that time and was on a temporary insurance plan which I was told would cover emergency services, but it actually did not. This was my first time getting temporary insurance on my own and not through an employer, so I trusted the insurance representative that what was stated was my actual coverage. After the surgery, I realized my insurance coverage was limited to preventive care and knew that I would be receiving a large bill. I secured a job a month after the surgery, so the hospital financial assistance office used my income from my new job to screen me for financial assistance. The income from my job was too high, so I knew financial assistance was not going to be a likely option. Fortunately, not billing my insurance allotted me a large discount on the bill, along with an additional discount if I paid the bill within 30 days, but even with these large discounts, my bill is still $22,000. Therefore, I will be spending nearly half of my yearly salary covering it. The hospital services were fantastic, which I am extremely grateful for, but I want others to know, do not expect much compassion from the financial assistance office if you are not confident in your insurance coverage. I am now another person who has experienced the greed of hospitals, and have now experienced for myself that the billing and financial assistance offices at Boulder Community Health are not in the business of offering affordable care for patients, they are in the business of making as much money as they can from their patients who do not qualify as low income. read more

Please if you love yourself or have a loved one, do not take them to this Emergency Room. Here is my story. A Dr. from Lafayette Family Medical told me that I needed to go to Boulder Community Emergency Room because I had bilateral pneumonia. I begged him to just prescribe me antibiotics, he said no that people die from this. So my husband drove me to the e.r. in Boulder. When I checked in I was seen by the nurse who took my oxygen level, etc and she said this, "so antibiotics." This comment made me believe that my condition wasn't that bad. My husband and I went and sat in the waiting room, right in front of the people that check you in and the nurse. We did call the on-call Dr from my Dr.s office asking for them to prescribe me antibiotics and sharing that the nurse didn't make it sound like it was that bad. They said no that I needed to stay in the e.r. and get antibiotics. I was so fatigued that I had not driven myself alone anywhere for the last 3 days. So we waited. My limbs felt so heavy and I didn't want to waste energy on talking. I was hearing everything that was being said by the people working there and they were saying that they were slammed. I heard one woman come in with a bee sting and after about 45 minutes to an hour she just ended up leaving. Another woman said that her husband was on oxygen and they had been waiting for 3 or more hours to be seen. After about an hour to an hour and a half, I needed to go to the bathroom and I was so fatigued that I knew that I wouldn't be able to walk the 40 to 50 feet to the bathroom. I let my husband know that I needed a wheelchair. The security guard came and pushed me to the bathroom. When I got back from the bathroom I was so tired. Not one person from the front staff or nurse came to check on me. I asked my husband to get a blanket and he did and he spread it out on the floor. He helped me up from the wheelchair and I laid down on the floor. I just kept getting weaker. I couldn't move and barely talked, my limbs felt so heavy. My husband told the nurse that I was fading and I heard the nurse say that I was the next person to be seen and it would only be about 30 more minutes. We both knew that was not the truth but what were we going to do. When the nurse came out to call me back to the e.r. she was calling the wrong name. She had my wrist bands in her hand and she called out the wrong name 3 times before my husband said, do you mean S..... I couldn't get up off the floor. Two people had to lift me up and get me on the stretcher. When I got back to room 9, they took my blood and wondered why I was catatonic. They did a nasal swab and gave me antibiotics. The fatigue in my limbs was decreasing but still so heavy. I was coughing, because you know...pneumonia and the Dr. said we need you to cover your cough and I coughed again and he said "or not." and left the room. I was lying there barely able to move or talk and thought, are you kidding me, I don't need these comments. Then the nurse came in and I started coughing and he said "we need you to cover and I gasped, "mask" and he left the room and came back with a mask and when he put it on me, he had to remove the mask that was hanging off my right ear. Then the Dr. came back and said that I tested positive for the flu and that is why I wasn't able to move and was so fatigued. read more

Boulder Community Hospital has only added to my distress when I am most in need of care. I came in with severe back pain that was affecting my ability to breathe and they barely asked me any questions about what was going on with my body before they forced me to have an IV of medicine taken for panic attacks. Since I happen to have extreme sensory issues with needles, I then actually did have a panic attack. After the first dose was done, they asked me if my breathing or back pain was gone yet and I told them no my pain was still there and instead of actually addressing the problem, they once again gave me another dose of the ativan, which again did nothing to help me. In fact it made me feel very weird and unable to string words together. The only moment of relief during my visit was when they took the needle out of my arm. I then asked if we could now do something about the back pain and breathing issues that I came in with. They told me I shouldn't be getting any fentanyl or pain medicine and discharged me. They don't listen to anything you say, they clearly don't respect you, they cause you to have panic attacks and they gaslight you about your own symptoms. This place clearly does not care about their patients needs at all and I will never be going back. read more

I'd like to send a big thank you to the folks at Boulder Community Health and Boulder Community Hospital. Not only was I able to get my needed procedures but everyone treated my wife and I with such kindness. I'd like to specifically thank Trish (in scheduling), Kelli (ultrasound tech), Keelee (radiology tech), Dr. Fahrbach, M.D., and I'm sure others who were behind the scenes. My wife and I (who are in the medical field) were very impressed with the service and bedside manner. read more
