Kaiser Emergency department is horrible. I had a high fever of 103.2 I took 1000mg Tylenol and 800mg of ibuprofen and rushed to Kaiser riverside ER. When I got there they checked my temperature and it was 99.8 . There were only 3 people in the waiting room when I arrived and 10 people checked in after I did. They were all called in before me. Waited in the waiting for about 2 hours and when I asked them about it they said it is based on the severity of emergency. I only went to ER because I feel like I am dying with fever, cough, stomachache and headache. I waited again. Now everyone checked in after me was already called back. Here I am thinking I will be next. More people checked in. They started calling them back before me. I left without being seen. I will just take my chances with OTC medications now. What a horrible place!

I am writing on behalf of my Mom, the patient (admitted)3/26-3/30/26), and myself. It was a very scary time for us. My Mom suffers from mild dementia, and luckily, she has not been hospitalized for years. The staff was so kind, professional, warm, and caring that, although it was still scary for her, she felt she was in good hands and felt safe. She met her soul mate in Marlette. That woman went above and beyond to make my mom feel special and cared for. They had a common interest in fashion, and Marlette made sure she connected on such a personal level that my Mom felt she had made a great friend. I felt that way too. Marlette could be very warm and caring and still very professional, a rare skill that is not always demonstrated. For her, I think it comes naturally; it's a true gift. The nurses, Sarv, Lily, Christine, Jill, and I am sure I am forgetting some names, were very good, caring, and professional. The gentleman Daniel, who delivered her food, always had a smile and kind words to say. I do realize these are people's jobs, and it can be easy to get wrapped up in the stress and occasional negativity that often goes with high-stress situations. Your people took the time and energy to treat a scared, confused, elderly woman with deep kindness and respect. Taking the time to learn about her interests and offer words of encouragement. These actions will not be forgotten, and we as a family are very appreciative.

I want to leave a review specifically for this morning. It was not busy at all and I was in and out with an hour tops. Everyone was friendly and genuinely caring. I can't remember everyone's names but the PA was quick and wasted no time putting in my orders for steroids, breathing treatment, and chest xray. The RN promptly gave the medication, following by xray taking me back, ending with respiratory giving me the breathing treatment. All happened with 20 mins of coming through those doors. Thank you for getting me in and out of there promptly so I could get home and rest.

While my symptoms have been extremely debilitating, I honestly expected the ER would offer little help. I first went to urgent care, hoping they could assist, but because my heart rate was elevated, they sent me to the ER. Dr. Romero Kupai came in and reassured me that nothing urgent was happening, which I appreciated. However, when I brought up the concerns found on my echocardiogram earlier that day, he seemed to minimize them as though they were not worth concern. He also stated that one of the blood tests my cardiologist had ordered was unnecessary because if I had that particular infection, I would be "very sick." He then said he would still order it anyway, in a way that felt dismissive--as if he were doing me a favor by completing testing my specialist had already deemed appropriate. (After i left the ER i did further research through credible medical sources, and found that he was entirely incorrect, that the infection I was being tested for can be subacute - symptoms can indeed be minimal or hidden) I am EXTREMELY glad that i still chose to get the testing done, despite him making it sound like it would be pointless. When he later explained there was nothing further the ER could do after ruling out immediately life-threatening issues, I understood that. What was frustrating, however, was when I asked what could be done in the meantime to help manage my symptoms while waiting for specialist follow-up, he had no guidance beyond telling me to return if symptoms worsened. The most upsetting part of the visit was overhearing him speaking about me outside the room to staff. I heard comments along the lines of patients getting "one bad test result" and assuming "that must be it," followed by something to the effect of trying to be gentle because he "can't tell them it's all in their head." Hearing a physician discuss me this way while I was actively seeking help was deeply discouraging and unprofessional. Being told by my cardiologist that there may be a mass on my heart is a legitimate reason to be concerned--especially when experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. Those symptoms are not "in my head," and neither are abnormal imaging findings. He also responded to my report of sharp chest pain by saying it was not concerning, and stated, "I actually like hearing when patients have sharp pain." I understand he may have been trying to explain that certain pain patterns are less associated with emergencies, but the phrasing was insensitive and unsettling in the moment. I understand the ER's role is to rule out emergencies, not solve chronic issues. But patients still deserve respect, thoughtful communication, and not to be spoken about within earshot in a mocking or dismissive manner. Kaiser needs to do better in ensuring patients--especially those scared and symptomatic--are treated with professionalism and dignity.
