Ask the Community - Riverside Community Hospital

Did anyone wait a long time before being admitted for labor??? & do they test for covid?

No you wait maybe like 5 - 10 minutes they first take you into a triage room then transfer you to the room in which you will give birth. No they do not but recommend your partner stays with you at all times.

Does anyone know if riverside community is VBAC friendly?

They are, if your provider says you are a good candidate they will allow it! One of the only hospitals in the are that is. I've heard Loma Linda and Arrowhead do as well but can't confirm

I heard they are trying to make the postpartum rooms private. Is this true? I have heard excellent things about L&D but the only reason I'm hesitant is because of the possibility of sharing a room postpartum

As far as I know, they are all private. They even have an extra bed for the father or whomever is staying with the mom. It was a very pleasant experience for us.

Are all recovery rooms after labor and delivery private or are some joined rooms?

They all have 2 beds, but they really try not to give you a roommate unless they absolutely have to.

In December 2019 I will be giving birth to my first baby and I was looking into what hospital would provide a better experience for me. Would riverside community hospital be a better option than parkview or Redlands?

My daughter had a baby at riv community and my daughter in law had a baby at Parkview.... both last year. Definitely go to parkview. Both of them were emergency c-section and the care at Parkview for my daughter in law was phenomenal!!! They kept… Read more

For postpartum recovery do you share rooms?

No.

I plan on delivering at this hospital at the end of dec. During recovery, do you share rooms with another mom?

They offer PRIVATE ROOMS NOW.

Hello. I plan on giving birth here by the end of December. Before I do, I need to know my spouse will be able to stay overnight with me. Is that gonna be possible as I've heard otherwise? Thank you

I gave birth here in Dec 2016. My husband stayed with me in birth room. However, the transfer rooms are shared and shoe box tiny! Only a chair per curtain side. Some moms are lucky and don't have a roommate so hubby can borrow extra bed.

How are c-section deliveries at this hospital?

My c-section was great, even thought I did not want to have it. The nurses, doctors were very attentive and caring. My scar healed great.

You always get a Care Team to help you navigate through any questions or concerns. For the first time I am being admitted to the hospital with Pneumonia. While my symptoms have been extremely debilitating, I honestly expected the ER would offer little help. I first went to urgent care, hoping they could assist, but because my heart rate was elevated, they sent me to the ER. Dr. Romero Kupai came in and reassured me that nothing urgent was happening, which I appreciated. However, when I brought up the concerns found on my echocardiogram earlier that day, he seemed to minimize them as though they were not worth concern. He also stated that one of the blood tests my cardiologist had ordered was unnecessary because if I had that particular infection, I would be "very sick." He then said he would still order it anyway, in a way that felt dismissive--as if he were doing me a favor by completing testing my specialist had already deemed appropriate. (After i left the ER i did further research through credible medical sources, and found that he was entirely incorrect, that the infection I was being tested for can be subacute - symptoms can indeed be minimal or hidden) I am EXTREMELY glad that i still chose to get the testing done, despite him making it sound like it would be pointless. When he later explained there was nothing further the ER could do after ruling out immediately life-threatening issues, I understood that. What was frustrating, however, was when I asked what could be done in the meantime to help manage my symptoms while waiting for specialist follow-up, he had no guidance beyond telling me to return if symptoms worsened. The most upsetting part of the visit was overhearing him speaking about me outside the room to staff. I heard comments along the lines of patients getting "one bad test result" and assuming "that must be it," followed by something to the effect of trying to be gentle because he "can't tell them it's all in their head." Hearing a physician discuss me this way while I was actively seeking help was deeply discouraging and unprofessional. Being told by my cardiologist that there may be a mass on my heart is a legitimate reason to be concerned--especially when experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath. Those symptoms are not "in my head," and neither are abnormal imaging findings. He also responded to my report of sharp chest pain by saying it was not concerning, and stated, "I actually like hearing when patients have sharp pain." I understand he may have been trying to explain that certain pain patterns are less associated with emergencies, but the phrasing was insensitive and unsettling in the moment. I understand the ER's role is to rule out emergencies, not solve chronic issues. But patients still deserve respect, thoughtful communication, and not to be spoken about within earshot in a mocking or dismissive manner. Kaiser needs to do better in ensuring patients--especially those scared and symptomatic--are treated with professionalism and dignity.

Giving me some WTH sorry of having a little girl who needed her mom back here and I said "what does that have to do with me". then she asked my son his age and then got rude with me.. I got up and left but wth.. this places isn't busy and we aren't in the way or hurting anyone but for no reason at all (and awful excuse) she just decided to kicked me out... I see her do stuff like this to people every time I'm here.. How about help patients and stop harassing people who are here worried and trying to support our loved ones... when she walked up I knew it was coming.. Her alone would be the reason I stopped coming here, I'm tired of being harassed by her or watching her harasse people every time I'm here. Another note: My son sat there and watched this gentlemen constantly asking for help and a glass water (guess he had injury to jaw) and finally after the 4th person he asked helped him.. everyone said ok but never came back.. my son almost got up to get him help and someone finally came back.. if staff is going to ignore patient then maybe should allow 1 guest so they can look out for patient wellbeing. I've worked in hospitals and it makes me sad how some staff ignores patients, at least act like you care. I know how busy it is but that person needs you, maybe hire more CNA's to show the TLC.

The treatment I received from Nurses HELEN and JESSICA was unprofessional and retaliatory. I have previously reported these nurses for their conduct during my baby's stay. When I arrived, Helen brushed me off and intentionally sent Jessica to the door to confront me. Jessica looked me in the face and said, 'I know who you are.'
