I love the fact that there's actually an anime/manga themed ramen spot in DC! It's aesthetically pleasing on the eyes. From the neon lights, to the art around, to the TVs playing several different anime's at a time, it's perfect for the American Otaku! The chashu fried rice was very delicious , I would definitely recommend it as a side. I usually go with gyoza or other sides, but since I haven't seen chashu fried rice on a menu before, I just had to get it. I had the Tokyo style ramen and it was really good. I tried my friend's chicken ramen and the broth was perfectly creamy, pause, and tasty! I haven't had chicken ramen before but this one actually made me want to try them from now on. After a nice meal, head downstairs to the speakeasy called "TKYO". It's small but a nice little spot to get some more drinks and enjoy the "Tokyo" vibes.
Rating: 4.5 03/2025 Found this spot via yelp. My son love everything kaiju and Godzilla so it was not a hard decision. RESTAURANT: Not very big but has plenty of tables of all sizes. There's a kiosk in the front for Takeaway orders, and some merch for sale. It was bit dark inside I guess to go with the Godzilla aesthetic and the dark accentuate the heart beat light on the ceiling. Love all the Godzilla and Ultraman and other manga characters on display around the bar area. The restroom is clean and the Godzilla wall paper was the best! SERVICE: Our service was very polite and was very soft spoken. He answered a questions and give us all the time we needed, especially when my son wanted to see all the Godzilla toys around the bar. The lady behind the bar, which I presumed was the owner took the time to look for the T-shirt size we were looking for and was kind enough to give my son a Godzilla button when she couldn't find the size for him. She really made my son's day. FOOD: Looking at the menu, I became disappointed that the selection was limited. I was expecting more like takoyaki's, and some other Japanese street food, maybe even sushi. But I am happy to admit that I was wrong. This place is a ramen place, a legit one. We got the tonkotsu ramen, chasu fried rice and kani karikari. Let's start with the Ramen; presentation was beautiful my son specifically love the sheet of nori cut in the shape of Godzilla's paw. The bra was so decadent probably the best one I've had. So flavorful and not salty at all. Love everything about this bowl from the fresh beans, sprouts and scallions, the delightful marinated quail eggs, the tender noodles, and of course, the delicious pieces of chasu pork. The fried rice look pretty average my son said it reminded him of an omurice. Again, I was wrong. There was nothing average about this fried rice. The soy sauce and sesame oil on that rice really comes through and pieces of the pork and fish cake just really kept me wanting more! I do wish that the egg was sunny-side up instead of scrambled. Now, just when I thought that nothing else from this man will blow my mind, again I was wrong. The softshell crab was ahhhmazzzing! I can eat a bucket of this! The egg tartar was delightful and I kept wishing I had white rice to go with it, but the crab was perfectly seasoned and lightly breaded. The Sauce did make the crab a little soggy, but I would suggest to eat it right away. What an unexpected surprise; I did not expect to enjoy this place as much as I did. We enjoyed every single thing we ate not even a crumb was left behind. Price point and portion size is pretty fair. I understand that the menu is limited and that is probably a good thing because it was obvious that that they put a lot of effort on the dishes they have. Highly recommend.
This is one of the more vibrant and lively ramen spots you'll encounter in the area with its floral decor and neon lighting. It was a bit packed on this particular evening but I was able to find a bar seat, the staff was very friendly and helpful as well. The menu features items like chashu fried rice, gyoza, and Japanese chicken wings (around $9-$13) as appetizers and multiple ramen options such as vegetable, spicy tonkotsu, Tokyo, and Yuzu chintqn options (around $18). I ordered the Tokyo style ramen with additional scallions and corn. The dish came out swiftly and was pretty good overall: decent portion size, the pork was well cooked and soft, I would have liked a bit more flavor broth wise but otherwise a solid ramen dining experience so definitely give them a try.
THE LOBSTER RAMEN IS THE BEST RAMEN IVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! I'm not exaggerating. It's not because of the lobster. It's the broth!! That broth is rich, creamy, luxurious on the tongue, full of flavor, and compliments every component in the bowl. I expected it to be good but I received GREATNESS in a bowl. And it wasn't just me, my entire family shared my sentiment. Now let's add that everything else we ordered was delicious from the boba drinks to all the appetizers. And even though mine was the best, all the ramen dishes were very good as well. The locker was our cool ass server that was friendly, funny, helpful, and on top of his job. We ate at a lot of places during our DC trip but this was definitely the highlight of the good portion. And that is saying a lot because we had good food daily.
Decided to try a new restaurant for ramen the other night and was pleasantly surprised. The spicy chicken ramen had a great depth of flavor--rich, satisfying, and just the right level of heat. It paired perfectly with the KURO "Black" Edamame with Sea Salt, which added a nice savory balance to the meal. We also ordered the fried dumplings, which were well-seasoned and held up impressively well for delivery. Everything arrived fresh and well-prepared. Will definitely order again!
We came here on a rainy day. We were so excited for ramen, but we left here super disappointed. I'll start off with the ambiance - great ambiance. Super lively, perfect for a night out with friends or a date night. Very pleased when we first arrived. But then we started having problems. Service here is not very attentive - nobody came by to take our order, and it was difficult to get anyone to come back over afterward. Have definitely had better ramen by far many other places. The ramen looked delicious when it was delivered, but that was it. Broth to noodle/topping ratio was so severely lacking that we took noodles from one of our ramens and put it in the other to try to even it out. So much broth. The pieces of char siu were overcooked, not what I expected for a ramen. I will say, though, the eggs were decent, which was a plus. Would not recommend this ramen house, nor would I return here.
Super cute decor inside. Anime figurines and anime playing on the TVs inside. Clean and good lighting inside. Service was good, our server made recommendations and they were all on point. The food was good! While I still think Toki and Haikan have the best ramen in the city, this place still makes a rich and complex broth and has fresh ingredients. I would definitely come back!
Food: 3.5/5 for ramen Atmosphere: 5/5 I ordered the black miso with cheese ramen which is a mix of tonkotsu pork broth and miso broth. For me, it was lacking a lot of flavor and wasn't rich in taste. The environment, on the other hand, is utterly phenomenal. They're playing Japanese music with anime on the tv. On the ceiling, there's an animated heart beat ekg, and the vibes are a mix of red, pink, and black. Kaiju is a Japanese word that is typically associated with giant monsters. In the back, they have tiny little monster creatures as decor. Street parking. Went on a Sunday night and it was easy to find. Below is their Japanese speakeasy bar! Went here after the meal.
Really impressed by the ramen here as most places in DC are pretty average. The broth was thick and clung to the noodles. Also noodles were cooked PERFECTLY! More dense and slightly undercooked which was exactly how it should be. Toppings were abundant. Really loved that cheese mochi and tempura. Great amount of selection and cute decor
I was pleasantly surprised going into Kaiju Ramen. The space is filled with the decor of Japanese culture; there are tvs playing anime and even the music is filled with high octane high pitched anime songs that you don't know the lyrics too. It's great. I think what surprised me the most was the bathroom where it had posters of past Godzilla films. This was a real treat for me as this was what I came to Kaiju Ramen for. I'm a big fan of Kaiju films! For my appetizer, I got gyoza, but it was flipped upside down for some odd reason. If you like pan fried goodness, you really can't go wrong with gyoza. It's my go to option. Quick, savoury bites keep me occupied until the main dish comes in. The ramen was interesting too. I got the Tokyo Style Ramen where it was made with pork and chicken broth. Interesting! The taste was not salty as I would expect but overall really delicious. I think the amount of chashu is a bit small ( it's thinly sliced ) but overall still good. I do think maybe the portion size is a bit small too but it varies depending on how hungry you are. There's a downstairs bar area as well but I did not get to check it out unfortunately. I'll definitely come back to try out more ramen as I think this is a gem in DC! This place is worth checking out!
I would give this place 4.5 stars for the food and ambience. Service was quick and friendly. I got the Yuzu Chintan Ramen and others in my party got the Yuzu Clear Vegetable Ramen. Everyone enjoyed their bowls. I liked the texture of the ramen noodles and the ramen egg in mine. However I only got a 1/2 egg in my Chintan bowl and I wish they gave two 1/2 eggs. Note the vegetable bowls did not come with any egg but had a roasted red bell pepper instead. While the broth was good it was slightly too salty for me. The yuzu definitely comes through. I would like to return to try the classic Tonkatsu ramen, Black Miso Cheese Ramen, or Chicken Ramen to see if this place has 5 star food or not. It's between 4 and 5 stars right now. The interior is dark with neon lights and a fun Tokyo sign. They also have fun action figures lining the top of their bar. We spotted a few Godzilla ones. The place apparently turns into a bar at night which is fun.
Here I am, a mere 14 hours later, still having dreams about this Ramen. My friend ordered the spicy Tonkotsu with extra spicy sauce on the side, and as a spice-wary human with an ever curious mind, I added a smidge of spice to my own ramen. The final photo is all I really need to tell about this visit. The wings were TEENSY tiny, but what they lacked in size, they were made up flavor (um....and price.....). All in all, great service, great food, and a great ambiance. I will definitely be coming back. read more
Overall, a 3.5/5, but bumped to a 4/5 for good service and the neon-colored Tokyo nightlife ambiance. My friend and I walked in at around 5:45 PM this evening (Wednesday) and our food came out pretty quickly. Service was good and our server checked to make sure we weren't out of water. My friend ordered the MONSTER CLAW appetizer which is essentially chicken tenders with rice cracker breading. He thought it was a bit expensive, but it fulfilled the spicy mayo craving he had and that it was worth it. TOKYO STYLE RAMEN - 15.95 The portion size here is small, especially since it's about $21-22 after tax and tip. The broth is supposedly a clear pork and chicken shoyu broth but it definitely had more of a chicken flavor. It was pretty light, which is what I preferred. The ramen was chewy and super easy to slurp on. I wish there were more toppings since I felt like most of my bites were just noodles. There were only three pieces of chashu that were thinly sliced, so it's hard to tell if it was tender or super flavorful. The bamboo shoots were nice and sweet. I also wish there was one whole ramen egg instead of a half, haha. The scallions were fresh and good for garnish. The ramen wasn't amazing, but I was able to finish it pretty quickly. It takes me quite a bit of time to trek over to the Capitol Hill area so I'm not sure if I'll return anytime soon to give Kaiju Ramen a try since there are comparable ramen shops that are much closer to where I live. My friend got the SPICY TONKOTSU RAMEN and he thought it could use more spice and that the broth lacked richness and flavor. read more

Visited during the week and loved every second of it. The ambience is very laid back and low key. The art and anime on the walls are cool and give the place some charm. I loved the atmosphere. The monster claw was delicious and the kaiju chicken ramen was some of the best ramen I've had. We also had the wings and they were small but flavorful. We also ordered the matcha cheesecake and it was tasty as well. I really loved this spot for the food and the atmosphere. There is also a bar downstairs in their basement that i didn't get a chance to fully check out but will definitely be back for more of the great food and laid back vibes. read more

This place exists to be on Instagram and TikTok. The staff is super friendly, and hell they even have a speakeasy type bar downstairs. I appreciate the walls adorned with kaiju, Ultraman, and even Demon Slayer (why) figures. First time I was here I got the Wayugla ramen, because no one else is dumb enough to order a $65 ramen and write about it. I hated how good it actually was - the beef broth had plenty of umami almost like a dashi but had the beef flavor, and it was definitely tender wagyu on top. It's even gimmicky watching them pour the broth for you live. As for everything else? Your mileage my vary. Why the hell do the name the edamame Kuro, and make you think it's gonna be black somehow. The chashu fried rice felt more like a half assed omurice, but it was very oily and not good. My friend got her spicy chicken ramen, but the chili paste was more sweet than spicy. As for my black miso cheese ramen, actually solid but ordered extra chashu - go slow cooked over regular, they both cost exactly the same. It's a fun time if you're nearby and want ramen, and the drinks have been pretty good to date. Ramen itself is slightly below or at the tier of Toki Underground. It's a fun place to go with friends for a first time, I'll give them that! read more

This was the best ramen I've had in DC. Period. I got the spicy chicken ramen and thoughrouly enjoyed it! The chicken was cooked to perfection and the broth was SO FLAVORFUL! I liked that they had the option to make a few of the ramen bowls spicy. As an appetizer I got the tempura veggie nest, which was nice to look at, but I would not order it again. My cocktail was good and they have a nice menu selection for drinks since there's a TOP SECRET speakeasy downstairs. They opened at 5 for dinner and it's walk-in only. They did fill up pretty quickly. read more

Little ramen restaurant and bar tucked away in southern Capitol Hill. Really like this place for both the ambiance and the food. Typical ramen options, however, the noodles were slightly thicker than traditional ramen which was a great addition! I would certainly come back. read more
On our convention trips we attempt to check the boxes of KBB, Ramen, and Italian. This spot I have seen in the past trying to find a place to eat but this time we went for it. Located in capitol heights area where there are a slew of restaurants on each side of the street I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting an Uber here - parking could mean 2minutes and getting lucky or 20min and having to walk several blocks to find something to squeeze into. It is a smaller thin place - but apparently there is a downstairs that also doubles as a music venue. The restaurant at ground level has booth, tables, and bar top seating. We had a 15minute wait and then were sat in a long table with a group of 4. We ordered a variety of appetizers and drinks to start. The gyoza dumplings were good - though they were all connected together and from our view it looked like a pancake. Still good taste in the dumpling. The cheese mochi was also good - comes with three. As Vog put it - like a oriental cheese stick. Wasn't too hot and I'm not sure I would get it again. Godzilla claw tenders - probably the best thing we had for an appetizer in all seriousness - great fry on the thin tenders- topped with chip pieces and served with a spicy Mayo- really good. Corn dog - good taste - really liked what Vog believed to be a plum sauce - good fry and overall taste. For the regular part of the meal I went with my usual pork tonkotsu ramen - adding corn and extra noodles. Everything enmeshed well together - noodles were great though there wasn't anything in the ramen or about it that stood out. Kind of like other places I have been. Not that there is anything wrong with that - just on par. Overall a nice place. Appetizers are essential. read more

With the weather getting chilly, ramen always sounds like a great option! My friend and I were doing some work and decided to try Kaiju ramen for lunch. It was pretty quiet and we were seated right away. I got the spicy chicken ramen which had a delicious broth and great toppings. The chicken leg itself isn't very flavorful and slightly dry, but once soaked in the broth it makes it juicy and delicious. Overall a great ramen spot and loved the creamy broth! My friend ordered the kaiju vegetable ramen and loved that it came with a creamy vegan broth, which is normally only served with non-veg dishes. read more

A cute restaurant with good ramen. The Kaiju Tonkatsu Ramen was tasty. The noodles were cooked well, and the broth was flavorful. I also tried the Mentaiko Mayo Fry and Edamame appetizers and thought they were average. I wouldn't order them again. I would come back for the ramen and to try the cocktails at the speakeasy downstairs. read more

I have been wanting to try this place, since I enjoy their sister restaurant, Gyuzo in Rockville. I didn't have Ramen, I had Gyoza, and Monster claw, and Inari. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a bit pricey, for what I had, but I will go back for some Ramen. The atmosphere is really fun, and service was great. Also the music was not overly loud, which I enjoyed. read more

I was very excited to go to this cool ramen spot in the Eastern Market area. I arrived close to 8pm on a Thursday night and there was limited street parking and the wait around the hostess stand was pretty crowded. I ended up waiting about 30-40 minutes on a table for 2. I Brussel Sprouts were recommended so I just had to try them. They were yummy but that is because it had parmesan cheese. If you take off the cheese, I do not think they would be anything exciting so I would not recommend these to anyone who is Vegan. The vegetarian ramen was an acquired taste. It tasted like the broth was pretty much a corn chowder. At first I was turned off but it grew on me and I finished my entire portion. I would try it again but it would be cool if they also let people choose between a more traditional ramen. The vibes were great and the staff was nice so I would come back and also try some cocktails read more
Great decor, intimate spot, secret bar downstairs. I never really been a huge fan of ramen, but if my friends say they're going to Kaiju, I'm tagging along. The staff is great, they have a nice selection of ramen and sake, so I always enjoy coming here. kaiju's spicy Tonkotsu ramen is my favorite! They're nice about substitutions, you can get it with three quail eggs or half a regular egg. Add the spicy bomb and enjoy. I also really love their fries, and the Tako corn dog is a must try! read more

This is such a fun place to eat tasty ramen and appetizers. The interior is filled with popular anime figurines, televisions playing anime series, and lively lanterns. Service was friendly. There's even a basement entrance to a speakeasy for evening cocktails. I enjoyed their Japanese style chicken wings a lot. A great appetizer. read more
I've eaten at quite a few Ramen spots, but Kaiju tops them all for me. After reading the reviews, I was excited to try it out. Not only for the yummy Ramen, but the cool vibe that everyone spoke about. It really is as cool as people say it is. To make it even cooler there is now an underground bar. From what I read, the bar just recently opened. To promote the opening they actually were offering a $1 drink if you showed your receipt. I'm no ramen expert, but I know a good bowl when I have one. For me it's about the flavor of the broth, and the quality of the meat. I went with the spicy tonkotsu which came with Chashu (pork shoulder) . I liked that the pork wasn't super fatty and it was extremely tender. It was so good I asked for an extra side of it. I like a lot of spice in my ramen, so I asked for a side of their spicy sauce. Even with the sauce the spice level seemed to be at like a level 5/6. The bowl was just amazing. I wanted more. On top of that, our sever was super friendly and educated us on the various sake options. We went with the Ryo Junmai $27 a bottle. We like more a dry sake, which this was. After we finished we went downstairs for our $1 drink. Bar had such a cool underground vibe to it. Not a huge space, so best to get down there before a crowd builds up. Bartenders were really cool and the drinks were quality drinks. Can't wait to get back out there. Sooooooo hood and a fun experience. read more
I came here with some friends on a Friday night. They don't take reservations for parties that small, but the place was pretty empty and we got seated right away. We ordered the spicy shrimp sushi pop as a starter and it was great! I would come back to try more of the sushi. I also ordered the Kaiju tonkatsu ramen and loved it! It was pretty spicy, so I would recommend ordering the spicy sauce on the side. The ambiance was great. It isn't too fancy, but lots of cool lighting and decorations. The happy hour menu also looked good, so I would come back to try it. read more

Breh. Tiktok has made this place poppin'. Kaiju Ramen is a super cool ramen shop in DC , far away from all the craziness of the National Mall. You might want to get there early for a spot , as the place itself is small and can get packed easily. With a group of 6 , it took us 15 or so minutes to sit down. But mayne oh mayne. Everything you order there is oishiiiii Got the cheese mochi- never realized you could do that for a snack. My favorite app is the monster claw- literally chicken tendies fried with rice crackers and seasoning. Divine. Sauce? Saucy. Crunchy. Crispy . Chicken. Ramen is phenomenal as well. I mean I had their classic ramens before and it's good. But the lobster ramen and the black miso? OMG. UMAMIIIIIIII There is also a cool bar below and the place has unique cocktails to enjoy. Three of us went to dinner here to check it out. I loved the ambiance of this place. It's very fun with the LED lighting on the walls and the lamps all around the ceiling. I got the spicy shrimp sushi pop and chicken ramen. Both were great! I didn't expect the sushi to be one of my favorites I've ever had in DC. I recommend getting the regular chicken ramen if you have a lower spice tolerance, and getting the sauce on the side so you can decide how much spice you would like. The portions are pretty big, so be ready to eat! read more
Capitol Hill's newest restaurant is the neighborhood's first ramen spot and it's a good one. In between local favorites Ambar and Cava Mezze along Barracks Row, one block from the Marine Corp's oldest active post, comes monster-themed ramen Kaiju. Here's why you should go: 1) Ramen: There are nine ramens on the menu, each made with broth that simmers for 10 hours in-house, creating a rich experience. The ramens range from $16 to $66 (for their wagyu ramen). There's a lobster ramen, spicy ramen and one made with squid ink. Several ramen come with a whole chicken leg in it. If meat on the bone is not your thing, I recommend the black miso cheese ramen. The deep black broth and cheese make it unique while maintaining the flavors of ramen we love. There's a vegetable ramen made with butternut squash. 2) Food: While ramen is the main course, Kaiju sells appetizers too. There's a seaweed salad, gyoza, fried rice and a potato salad made with lotus roots. More unique dishes include a cheese mochi and an octopus corn dog. 3) Takeout: They offer takeout via UberEats. Another option is to go inside and wait at the bar. (They'll bring you ice water to enjoy as you wait.) I went in on a Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. and placed a ramen takeout order. My wait was between 7-10 minutes. 4) Space: They make good use of a small Barracks Row space. There are group tables, small tables, booths and a long bar in the back. Fluorescent lights and funky art on the walls make you feel like you stumbled upon a Japanese eatery. 5) Location: Barracks Row is a perfect area with easier-to-find parking nearby (if none are along 8th Street SE, try the nearby neighborhood), plenty of bars, restaurants and shops next door and the Eastern Market Metro a few blocks north. There are also plenty of Capital Bikeshare docks close. If you have time after ramen, wander down the alley directly across from Kaiju to find The Fridge, an art space, murals and a gin garden (The Betsy). read more

Yummmm now that winter is coming, a nice bowl of ramen warms you right up! This is a new ramen spot that opened up in Barracks Row. Cute fun decor and dont forget to check out their bathroom wallpaper! Not the typical small ramen shops as this place has a decent amount of seating! Booths that can fit 6 people! We ordered the gyoza and fried Brussels sprouts as app to share. Both were delicious! The Brussels sprouts were fried to perfection! And gyoza filling was tasty! Also ordered the black miso cheese ramen and kaiju tonkatsu ramen. Enjoyed both very much! The black miso I couldn't tell there was cheese and the egg provided looked like quail egg. Pleasant surprise! I really enjoyed the kaiju soup. It was very flavorful! I would totally want to come again to try their wagyu and lobster soup. As both sounds delicious! For dessert we had their matcha creme brûlée. Picture is missing because we were so excited to try it. YUM! Such a great combo! read more
Thoroughly enjoyed the ramen and the gyoza here when we visited from San Diego, CA. I had the spicy pork tonkatsu and he had the spicy chicken. The broth was so "porky", the noodles were cooked perfectly as was the egg. I substituted a soft boiled chicken egg for the quail eggs. His broth was equally flavorful, his only complaint was the chicken quater was much smaller than those pictured on yelp. Favorite part of the meal was the gyoza! He did a happy dance as he bit down on the crispy skirt around the dumpling! I forgot to take a picture of the first order! Being the responsible yelper that I am, I placed a 2nd order of gyoza so I could share a pic with you! read more

This ramen was so authentic and so delicious!! They have a "secret" bar downstairs which was fun but also not that much of a secret because you could literally see it and also everyone talked about it, so maybe just say you have a bar in your basement. It doesn't have to be a secret. I don't know. I had the chicken ramen and it was so flavorful and had a very good ratio of food. The edamame was the perfect texture and paired wonderfully with soy sauce. The dish that stands out the highest is the gyoza!! It came out looking like a pancake but was fried perfection served with special sauce that had me starstruck. This ramen was the perfect spot to begin a DC trip! read more
Stopped by on a Friday night to pick up food for the fam. They were pleased with the Tonkotsu Ramen, it was a-lot of noodles and they couldn't finish it all. One ordered chicken wings and mayo fries, he didn't really like the mayo sauce but I did lol. My order was the Tokyo Style Ramen and I added some siracha sauce at home, very good. The quality of noodles here is amazing and they don't all stick together when you get it to-go. read more

It is so nice to have another ramen shop option in Barracks Row! We came on Saturday evening and there was no wait, but the restaurant was pretty spacious and it was a packed house. We ordered Japanese style chicken wings as an appetizer and two bowls of ramen (spicy chicken and Tokyo style ramen). The appetizer was quite expensive for very small portions but the flavors were fantastic. The ramen was also very delicious - I loved the wavy noodles that came with the Tokyo style ramen. The portion serving was just right but smaller than contenders like Toki Underground, Sakuramen, Daikaya, Bantam King, and Haikan. Overall the flavors were fantastic and ingredients were high quality, loved the vibe, but quite a pricey penny for drinks and smaller portion food. (Drinks were roughly $10 per beer.) I absolutely LOVED THIS PLACE!! & I initially took my Bf here because he's heavily into Anime! & when I googled bars this came up so I figured I'd surprise him because life been lifing for him. Alex was our awesome Waiter he explained everything and was so welcoming, suggestive simply what customer service should be!!..It's very Colorful,welcoming, and there's a Tv with Anime literally Everywhere!!. My favorite part was the heart beat moving!!! I've NEVER seen nothing like it!. They have an amazing Speakeasy bar downstairs, it's soo cool. The kitchen is in face view so you can see ppl making your food. They have several food options Ramen(my thing), Soju, regular drinks(not refillable tho), appetizers like the Monster Claw(chicken tenders) sooo good. I ordered the divinely delicious Spicy Chicken Ramen with added 3.50 pork belly, they give you Thick pieces of pork, a whole wonderfully flavored chicken leg quarter and it was seasoned down!!!! hell the Whole bowl was!! That I drank the broth. You can swap the ramen noodle for a thick noodle think semi thickness of udon!! For no charge. The Speakeasy Bar layout was EVERYTHING very chill, Delicious strong drinks, a Good time for sure!! , the Bathroom was dope!!! Inside and out. The Place itself was very inviting once you came in, ANY BIG anime fan would loove this esp the action figures as into the decor and you can watch anime no matter which way you're seated or no matter which way your head turns. Had some great food with hubby at Kaiju for Saturday night dinner! We went at 530 with a reservation but it gets busy so definitely recommend reservations. Had a lot of food , but my favorites were the cheese mochi (came piping hot so good) and the black miso cheese ramen. Ramen broths simmer for 10 hrs and you can really tell - such flavorful broths! Spicy chicken (hubby's) was great too! Soft shell crab tempura's presentation was amazing and perfect combo over a bed of egg tartare. Gyoza and monster claw were delicious (but nothing out of ordinary). And now the sake! If you want less alcohol, get any sparkling sake but if you want the real deal we loved the Ryu! Also had the Tokyo Drift (vodka) coctails and they were strong. Overall, very nice to see this spot in Barrack's Row! read more
After being deep in the DC ramen scene for a few years I had settled on Haikan (8th st NW) as the best place in the city but since taking my talents to the south side it's clear they've got some competition in Kaiju! I am hooked on their vegan creamy ramen!!! It is so flavorful and unlike any other vegan ramen I've had. I love the green noodles too. I also really like the wings and soft shell crab appetizers!! I do have questions about the wings though, they give you all flats always and I'm so curious how they're able to maintain that? Where are the drum sticks going? I'm not complaining, because I do prefer all flats but it makes you wonder. The inside is cute, it reminds of how ramen bars in Tokyo are portrayed in the movies, lots of neon lights, anime on the TV, real cute vibes! read more
Was long overdo for some ramen, so wanted to give this spot a try! We started off with their fried Brussel sprouts. They were absolutely delicious. They managed to maintain crispy bits, and the grated cheese was a nice touch. This dish was refreshing considering lots of places toss Brussel sprouts in a sauce often rendering them soggy. Highly recommend! I had the spicy tonkotsu ramen with added butter. The soup/broth was just OK. Tho flavorful, it was missing something that I couldn't put my finger on. Maybe bc I'm a big fan of shoyu ramen, this didn't do it for ne. This was my first time trying quail eggs, I was pleasantly surprised. The egg is firm and once you taste the yoke, it almost melts in your mouth. It's also a must that you wash the eggs down with the broth! I also like a little thinner noodles in my ramen, theirs was quite thicker than I preferred. He had the spicy chicken ramen. The chicken leg literally fell off the bone, it was so moist and savory. The broth was creamy, he was a fan, I absolutely was not. They were short staffed, but it didn't significantly impact our experience. They have a basement bar we didn't get to try. Not sure if we'd return but if we did, we'd for sure get the same appetizer again! read more
