We were seated at a large coffee table in the far back, right next to the restroom. As mentioned earlier, the food is great, but it took more than 40 minutes for our food to arrive. Tonkotsu is better than the Tantanmen. Black Lagoon is better than the Smoked & Mango. It's very expensive for what it is, but I'm sure it's because of the location and the hype of this place. The mango sushi roll was the best roll I've ever had in my LIFE. Such a edgy/retro spot, the colors and theme inside is fun and the drink menu was small but great with many different styles. I have the lychee martini and it tasted amazing and had lychee and boba in it. The server was great, quick, and attentive. The entrance to Kaiju is very discrete. You enter through side alley door with a small neon sign. You know you're in the spot when you see a Godzilla movie playing on the tv over the stairs. The space is very dark with red neon. Seating is a combination of tables and vintage living room furniture. Kailua has a curated drink list that is a must try. Their special bourbon drink is amazing and is smoked, which creates a cool effect in the dark neon lit space. The frozen Buddha is another must try if your preference is a sweeter rum based drink. Lastly, the food. We started with the bao buns that were soft pillows filled with crispy pork belly. We moved on to the Ramen and each was amazing. Cool bar- it's kind of a speakeasy hole in the wall and a bit hard to find the door. Inside is pretty dark and neon but overall pretty good decor. Drinks were great! Got a Tokyo mule and a Japanese old fashioned. There's also an option to make the Tokyo mule a mocktail, which my sober friends enjoyed. Food was phenomenal. My group of 8 and I thought this was a good place for dinner once we landed in PR the other night. We walk in and It took several minutes to be greeted by a staff member to place us on their waitlist which was said to be 30 min. Nothing else was open at that time of night so we decided to stay. We were also told that It would take longer to place an order for takeout as there was a wait for online orders. The wait was over an hour, small parties of three were sitting at larger tables that could fit 6-7. Their logic for coordinating tables per party sizes was poor as they were missing out of taking advantage of all the empty seats. We finally get sat, ordered our drinks and those who ordered alcohol were prioritized while the other three had to ask several people for their water. ONE water was delivered much later for the three people waiting, we ended up sharing the bottle. We waited an hour for our food, our server did not come to check on us for any refills or explanations as to what the hold up was. Finally our food arrived, everyone had their orders besides one member who had their order forgotten. She had to wait for her food to be rushed from the kitchen. The food came out cold, very salty, bland dumplings and overpriced for the amount/quality of the food. It took 3 hours to finally be out of that establishment. It's a shame that I have to leave this review because we have been here quite a few times in the past and have really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, but on our most recent visit we had an awful experience. We made a reservation through OpenTable for 8pm and when we got there they didn't have our table ready, they charged us a 135 dollar deposit in order to make the reservation and they weren't capable of having our table ready on time? We waited for over half an hour and still our table wasn't ready, they told us to "wait to see if one of the groups left" as if we were just walk ins, when we had a reservation. Absolutely terrible service and administration on the management's part, we will sadly not be returning. We ended up leaving to eat at Peko Peko, which is another great ramen spot nearby that is actually organized. read more

The door is a little unsuspecting when you're walking up to it. It's covered in graffiti and blends in with the outer exterior. If you didn't know it was there, you'd could totally walk right by and not notice. When you go inside it's dark! Like dark dark! Give your eyes some time to adjust from the bright Puerto Rican sun if you're coming during the day time because it's all black lights. At the bottom of the stairs, there is a small step up into the actual restaurant. I tripped going in and coming out could be user error, but I'm not taking credit for that. Inside is really chill! Lots of comfortable seating. There are also formal tables. We sat at a formal table, but if you like a more "at home comfy" feel, take a seat on a couch. Staff is so nice! The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: The Good: it is a very unique and vibey type of place. The Ramen was good. The Bad: The Pad Thai had what tasted like peanut butter in it. It did not have a typical Pad Thai flavor to it. The Ugly: the $12 mixed drink had no discernable alcohol in it but the Eel roll had a over-powering flavor of alcohol to it. You are paying for the Ambiance. Definitely a place to bring a close group and have fun with the with the wall decor, the seat placements, and the glow in the dark lighting. One of the few restaurants that offer a basement environment in Puerto Rico. If you are into the Godzilla Universe, this will be right up your alley. The food was Godzilla themed, the drinks were Godzilla themed, the whole place is Godzilla themed. The food was good, but did not reach that level of cuisine for the price paid. We had the the pulled pork Spring roll, the Tonkatsu Ramen, and the Chicken Lo Mein. The one entree that stood out was the Spring Roll (just for the fact I've never had pulled pork spring rolls). We are in town for a short getaway and we're recommended to stop by and eat here by friends. Upon entering, you see glow in the dark paintings and a tv screen playing Godzilla. It was unexpected and a cool entry! Inside we were greeted by the bartender who also happened to be our server. He was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. Best service we've received since being in PR. We started with the pulled pork bao buns and they were so soft and yummy! I recommend these as a starter, two come in an order. We then ordered a Pad Thai and the Godzilla roll. The server recommended this roll to me since I didn't know which one to get! This one is off the menu and it was different and freshly made. I love the wontons on top of the roll such a cute garnish. Overall, we had a great experience and we absolutely recommend people to come here! I do recommend to make reservations! To agree with everyone's reviews, the pad Thai is quite bad. It tastes like peanut butter and noodles. However everything else about the place was amazing, from the flavor of the sushi rolls and the bao buns, however, do not eat their chicken. My friend and I have been suffering from severe food poisoning ever since eating their chicken roll. This place is a neat idea of a "speakeasy" type restaurant that is located underground. It is a small place that isn't for very large groups. Parking is either off the street if you can find a spot or there is a parking garage 2 blocks down, attached to the Pueblo/ across from Lote 23. The seating options are either bar counter or couches and tables. They offer their list of cocktails with a handful of beers such Sapporo, Coors banquet, craft boat local beer, etc. The bao buns and spring rolls were delicious. The pork was juicy and tender and the combination of ingredients was pleasant. We ordered the Tonkotsu and Shoyu. The Tonkotsu had a creamy broth similar to a Japanese-esc corn chowder. The Shoyu brother was mediocre and lacked the flavor you would get from a broth that was stewed for hours. The broth could've been better with an element of chili oil. A couple negatives- At first our server was attentive but then was nowhere to be found. The water glasses are about 1/2 cup of water sized and she didn't come to refill our water at all. The restaurant is dark with the exception of a UV light. The food you're eating will appear different colors (green cilantro looks purple, pork belly looks lime green).. this is cool but we wanted to know what we were eating! The prices are way too high. The soup should be $15-18 not $25. We wouldn't return unless the prices were adjusted to match the quality of the flavors. read more

How to go from a 5-star review to a 1-star review in one week flat: After enjoying a fantastic meal at Kaiju last Friday, I decided to come back this Friday and brought some friends. Big, embarrassing mistake, total disaster! As a consequence of my 5-star Yelp review from last week, Kaiju apparently became a lot more popular. My group arrived around 8:00 and the place was pretty much full. Such is the power of Yelp. The crazy part is, these people clearly have no idea why they suddenly got so busy, because they haven't even claimed their business on Yelp. They probably never even heard of Yelp! Anyway, I was initially glad that they were busy, as I felt like I'd done my part to spread the word. However after waiting like 20 minutes to get seated, I was a little less enthusiastic. Unfortunately, we waited another 20 minutes and no one even came over to take our drink order, so we walked out. Also, they totally changed their menu, and the Wonton Ramen that I raved about in my first review was nowhere to be found on the new menu. Unbelievable stupidity. You have ONE review and in the review, the customer raves about a specific dish, so of course, you remove that dish from your menu. Totally makes sense! read more

Visiting San Juan and saw this place on google and decided to try it, and we're so glad we did!! They are generally reservations only but thankfully they had some seats at the bar for us. The sushi was amazing and easily beat my favorite sushi spot at home. Drinks made by Daniel were also fantastic and his service was welcoming and so friendly. Can I give less than one star????? Sadly, we were not able to enjoy Kaiju because they don't admit patrons under the age of 18 years of age. I have no issue with their policy; but when you google them and then go to Open Table to make a reservation, this policy is either not mentioned at all or it is buried somewhere that I couldn't find! When we learned about the policy, we cancelled our reservation because some of our group were indeed children. Even though we made the cancellation over 24 hours ahead of the reservation, the restaurant refused to refund the deposit we placed at the initial reservation! As a fairly savvy restaurant patron and a family person, it seems to me that if a restaurant has a seemingly kid-friendly theme, such as Godzilla, they should expect a good number of people with children to be interested in patronizing their establishment. However, it is not clear that kids are unwelcome and yet, their refusal to refund the deposit is pretty shady. This makes me wonder how much money these people are raking in from unsuspecting families such as ours. They may have epic drinks and tasty food, but they are also fundamentally dishonest and need to be much more up front about the kind of customer they welcome. We tried to call and politely request our deposit back and hit a brick wall. A similar response was given to the concierge at our hotel who attempted to intervene on our behalf.
