worst place to get fish specially bettas!!!! they over drug ALL the male betta. the water they are sitting is so blue from the calming solution You cant tell what color the betta actually is. there is so much calming drugs in the water it takes days for it to wear off or they pass away for being drugged to long. 29.99$ for a drugged up fish!! the fish are ALWAYS in the dark so when you take them home they are light shy. the two guys working the area are completely unhelpfull. you feel like your wasting their time even if the store is empty of other customers. we NOT being returning!!! read more

Kaija's rocks. Been going there since i was a kid and their customer service is AMAZING! The man who runs the fish/reptile area (Cameron i believe) was a delight to talk to and has a very standoffish personality that some customers may take as rudeness, but from my experiences during the years ive continued to shop there he always makes conversations fun. All of the otherworkers are kind, care about their customers, plants and animals, and will bend over backwards to help with a problem. On multiple occasions they've carried heavy bags of cat litter to my car, which i would have been unable to do! My one and only issue is when chick season rolls around, they have the very old fashioned and frankly inhumane "chick tower" with layers of chicks stacked on top of each other with barely any room to move with their heads touching the ceiling. read more

I recently bought some fancy crystal shrimp from them, and I'd first like to say how hard it is to find this breed of shrimp anywhere in this area. Closest place was in Seattle aside from here. These shrimp were high quality, and also reasonably priced. After two weeks, I am happy to say that my shrimp are thriving (one pictured here valiantly riding my apple snail), which pays homage to Kaija's quality of pets. As the fish guy at Kaija's knew that I had been waiting patiently for this particular breed of shrimp to come back in stock, he even gave me a small discount for my wait time. I highly recommend their store for their great customer service, reasonable prices, quality products, and knowledgeable staff. read more

Cool local nursery and pet place where the staff is knowledgeable and friendly- they all seem to like being there. I've been in several times- for plants, or dog or cat or bird supplies, or gifts (especially at Christmas when they have the most beautiful inventory for glass ornaments), or this time for plant fertilizer. They have a great selection and they helped me find exactly what I needed to finish up the job I was doing in the garden. Love this place! read more

Love this store! Has veggie starts when no one else has them. Has cover crops by the pound when no one else does. Has organic chicken feed and hard to find large bags of fertilizer for trees and gardens. It's a small store, but thankfully they have even a huge selection of seeds! read more

DO NOT GO THERE .. the guy that works there is the rudest person I've ever dealt with . I have a elderly friend next door and she has fish tanks . She asked me if I could grab something for her tanks . She gave me the name and cash to buy it because she doesn't drive anymore. I got there and grabbed what I was told to and this man comes out and starts asking me a bunch of questions I don't know the answers to . Like exactly what kind of fish and symptoms. I told him it's my neighbor and she's like 80 and she's had fish forever . She told me what to grab . He starts yelling at me about fish antibiotics and people taking them and whatever else . I know people do weird things but it's antibiotics not pain meds and I was doing a favor for my neighbor and he talked to me like I was lying to him . He is the rudest man . 100% do not recommend this store. the employees advice about not having to cycle a salt water aquarium just buy our salt water. Maybe you should worry more about the fish than sales. I will never come here again. Now will I allow anyone I know to purchase from here. That's horrible me advice, you must CYCLE a tank regardless if it's fresh or marine. read more

I went here to look at hamsters, and their rodent room is really horrible. There's mites on all the animals, and there was diatomaceous earth all over the cages, which if used excessively like that, causes cancer for the poor little critters. They don't use wood shavings, but rather pellets, so the animals can't nest and bed. It smells really bad too. With that said, their fish room is amazing. I feel they could really improve with their small animals if they found someone with the same passion as the people in there. I want to like this place, but I walked in looking for a hamster, and I walked out flicking mites off of me, hoping it wouldn't infect my animals at home. read more

I completely recommend this store, the employees are very knowledgable about the animals and helpful. I got my beta there and she lived for 6 years. I also got my cat there and she's really sweet. We recently got a beardie and he is friendly and healthy. The employees helped me with how to care for him. I only give it 4 stars because the rodent room is gross and the prices on everything are a bit high. But overall the merchandise is excellent quality. read more

I just got the worst service possible. Went in to buy some fish. Asked to get some tigers. Answer we don't sell them. Oh do you mean fish? Ha Ha yes I want some fish. We don't sell them. Then what am I looking at. Oh those are tiger barbs. OK, I want couple of them. The gentleman set about cleaning nets and straightening up. As he walks over somebody comes in to get goldfish. Off he goes to get the client's name and phone number to call when they come in. Nice customer service even though he left me to work with the other person. He comes back to me and ask again do I want the tiger barbs? Yes and some others. Then the owner comes back to ask him to get some plants, sees me and states when he isn't busy that he needs some plants. Gentleman says he isn't busy and walks off again to get the plants. 3 strikes. How dis-respectful. Will never go back nor ever refer to them... read more

We went into Kaija's today to adopt/purchase two new baby boy fancy rats. We previously purchased our first 3 from them and had a pretty decent experience, this was in January of 2018. Today, however, when we entered the store we were not greeted by a single person, so we went straight to the back room where we know the rats are kept. Upon walking to the back room to see the rats, it was difficult not to notice how dirty and disgusting the entire place was. Every animal was walking/lying in their own feces, the back room where the rats and mice are kept was hot and muggy with no air ventilation at all. While looking at the baby rats we opened the top of one of the cages, we had found two boys that we wanted to take home and we had done this the first time and had no problem at all. As soon as I took the top off the one aquarium, some snooty voice behind said "Put that back please!" The young man in the cowboy hat was standing at the doorway of the room. I asked him "how am I supposed to hold them and pet them and see if I want to take them home if I can't get into the aquarium to pick them up?" His answer in one of the most snarky and condescending tones "by asking" while bobbling his head like some wanna-be school girl. First off, I'm 30 years old, I don't need some wanna-be cowboy 15 year old telling me that I need to wait for him to come over and grab a baby rat out of an aquarium that I have no problem doing myself. Second off, the first words out of the mouth of a so-called "customer service" associate should never be rude or disrespectful, they should be sincere and to find out if the customer needs help. This one person ruined our entire trip and made us not only leave the store immediately, but we will not be returning, they have lost a lifetime customer and many others as word of mouth is a pretty powerful thing. We will be taking our business elsewhere and we will never recommend Kaija's to anyone we know. read more

Everything I have ever bought from this extremely high cost store has died. The plants look great on inspection, but failed miserably in the garden. Their potato starts rotted in well drained soil. I bought a package of pole beans with a specific spot in mind, and they ended up being bush beans. This company is expensive and highly OVERATED! I suggest SunBirds in Chehalis as an honest atlernative . SunBirds has the best garden department around Lewis County. Plants have been "hardened" and are ready to go when the season is ripe. And their pricing is REASONABLE! read more

If it was possible to not give any stars I would. I adopted a kitten fro there and it was not disclosed that the kitten was sick with a liver problem. Contacted them and they were less than helpful or caring. Now I have a sick kitten, large vet bills and an unpleasant taste in my mouth because of this business. Next time I want to adopt a kitten I'll stick to my local shelter instead of going through a business like this. I feel like they were dishonest about the kittens health and just hoped no one would notice until it was too late. I'm upset with this place, far beyond words. I would warn others to not shop here for a kitten or cat EVER. Oh and they also make you provide the second set of shots before they get fixed, unlike the shelter that does all that and it's included in the cost of the animal. This place is just out for profit and i do not personally feel they care about the customers or animals. read more
