Very casual restaurant with nice views. The portions here are very big and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. I had a pizza which I enjoyed (not as good as my favorite thin crust pizzas on the mainland, but it was tasty nonetheless), and I had plenty left over. At the table across from me someone got what appeared to be a burger inside of some sort of pretzel bun: it looked huge, and he was clearly enjoying it. Our server was great, but we were a bit disappointed in the hostess: She sat us at a table, and we mentioned to her that we would rather have the table in the corner that was about to be bussed. She said that we couldn't have that table because it was reserved; I said I thought you didn't take reservations, and she said well they have been on the waiting list. I figured they had been waiting for that specific table the way she worded it and refused to give us that table. A few minutes later she seated people at that table. But five minutes later those people picked up and moved to another table..... so then I hunt down the hostess and ask her to move us to that table (which the other people clearly didn't want), and she says "now that you've ordered I can't do that since you are in this person's service area". We stayed where we were seated and watched as that table sat empty for another 10 minutes until another couple wandered in and were given the table that we had requested from the getgo 15 minutes prior. That left a bad taste in my mouth, but fortunately the food did not. :) read more

Solid place for a dinner spot. I would say where they really shine is their extensive drink selection. I ordered a flight of sours and cider as well as the coconut shrimp and fried green beans. Everything was super tasty and came out quick. Unfortunately I had an unwelcome visitor four inches from my food at the bar when a cockroach decided to crawl up the crack of the post. Great food and views. Nice place for sunset! Staff was busy but friendly and upbeat. Our waitress Tracie was personable and genuinely pleasant. It is rare when a place is busy and short staffed for customer service staff to take the time to leave a lasting, positive impression. Fantastic to experience. The venue overlooks the water and is very inviting. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The ribs were meaty but the sauce was overly tomato tasting. I prefer more sweet or honey based. The mahi mahi was pretty good but the servings were on the small side. Each entree is pretty much in the mid $20 range. Not the worse if nothing else is available. read more

During our week long visit in Kona, we came to Kai Eats + Drink twice. The service and the food are great - and the view is phenomenal! Tip: Paid parking is below the restaurant and they don't validate, but across the street and behind a paid parking lot, there's a free to park lot on Farmer's Market days. We had the pizza's the first time we were here, plus the cheese fries. The seasoning on the fries is very good and the pizza was excellent. Drinks are also really good as well. Seating in the bar area is open-air as well, so masks aren't strictly enforced when you are far away from others. Only reason for 4 vs 5 star is due to the lack of acknowledgment from servers who are walking past us as we're waiting. We understand they are busy, but even a "hi I'll be right with you" would be appreciated. We weren't sure if we were supposed to order drinks at the bar or if they come to us. Really though, minor amongst all the benefits. read more

What a lovely place! We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel and I'm so glad we decided to come eat here. The white pizza was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Sitting right on the water with all the birds around makes this place a true paradise. There was lots of parking in the area on the street and lots and lots of shopping in the area too. The service was great and we were checked on frequently. Highly recommend if you're in the area! read more

We went kind of late but thankfully they still let us in to eat. My husband and I both got the smash burger with sweet potato fries. Honestly everything was so good! It had such good flavor and tasted so fresh. I liked that the food wasn't overly greasy at all and didn't make me feel sick after. The ocean view is definitely a plus too! Our server (I believe her name was Sarah) was attentive and quick with getting our food. I feel every employee we interacted with was very helpful and kind, they had great customer service! We ended up at Kai one afternoon on our trip to the big island as they were the closest place to us at the time. I was not prepared for how delicious the food would be! As a vegetarian, I was pleased to see an impossible meat option- which I got of course. It was absolutely delicious, and my boyfriend (who had the same taco with meat), said they tasted about 99% the same. We also had their fries which were nicely thin and crunchy! Also, the views were to die for. You are right off the shore in Kona, staring out into the ocean with great food and great company- you really can't beat that! read more

Location, tasty food, and great service! You seriously can't beat the location of this restaurant! It backs up to the ocean so you get amazing views right by the water. We ate here twice during our travels as it was that good! The carne asada Kai fries really stuck out to us from the menu so we decided to try them out. We were not disappointed. We think the chimichurri sauce needed a bit more oil but it was still so good and paired well with the carne asada and fries! Definitely one of our favorite dishes. We also ordered the coconut shrimp and smashed burger. Both were delicious! For desert we had the guava cake! The second time we ate here we picked up a meatsa pizza to eat on the beach and it was also so good. What a great find just a short walk from our rental. The setting, the food and drink were all outstanding. The service was relaxed but attentive. The sights and sounds of the ocean set the mood for our days as we had breakfast each and every day of our stay. There was an interesting variety to the meal options. The servings were generous and delicious. Jenna took great care of us even helping in a travel plan to meet a friend while on the big island. First of all NICE view at the patio! Love the happy hour but the lemon fries was not the favorite seems like you're eating lemon, sour! Honestly, this place was sub par... the lemon fried they are known for were ok. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, Cesar salad, steak tacos (they should add the chimicurri sauce they use for the lemon fries to these tacos to give them flavor), Baja mahi mahi tacos (bland even with the pineapple salsa), the POG and mango ciders, and a Dirty Lickens. None of the items stood out. The ciders tasted a lot like flavored beer... I have to say I don't think we'll be back again... we had high expectations that went unmet unfortunately. read more

Came in on a Tuesday around 8pm. Parked below the restaurant and 2 hour parking was $20 and they don't validate (the waitress did tell us about free parking in the area after we had sat down and we thought about looking for some free parking before going inside but just decided to go with it). There were 2-3 parties in front of us but the hostess acknowledged us right away and we were seated within 5 minutes. The ambience is amazing - they have glass windows to where they have all their local beer kegs, open kitchen to where they are making all the pizzas, beautiful clean interior, open dining area with the ocean visible with waves crashing ashore very close to restaurant. Our server was great, very nice and accommodating. Bathrooms were clean. We ordered the 5 fries (great and with 5 dipping sauces - the chimichurri, quaso blanco and chili aioli were standouts), coconut shrimp (huge and amazing; great flavor, some of the best coconut shrimp I've had), Luau pizza (delicious with a great BBQ-ish sauce) and pepperoni pizza (loved it). The food was amazing. Would get everything again and the pizza was incredible. Loved the brick oven style and taste. The pizzas were bigger than we expected so even if the prices were for artisanal pizza, they are generous with the size and the quality is still on point. They have 48 drafts on tap with a good variety so just doing everything right on all levels. Overall, food was amazing. Definitely would come back for the pizza alone, but the coconut shrimp was so good we'd have to get that again too. Love the draft beer selection and the ambience was some of the best you can get on the island. So glad we found this spot and would go back and definitely would recommend to others. read more

Was an hour and a half wait for a table for our party of 8 but well worth it. We all had a great time with 4 adults, 4 keiki. They do not take reservations so especially for bigger parties, it's a little rougher to get in as quickly, understandably. We spent the time watching the sunset near Kona Inn Restaurant. They texted us when the table was ready. They give you 10 mins to get there so if you do end up having to wait, don't wander too far. We went in 15 mins early from the quoted time and just as we got to the restaurant, we received the text. My party shared the medium Nachos, which was large enough for our entire party to share. I had the Bubba burger and the patty was well seasoned, messy but delicious. Cooked to perfection when asked for no pink. My husband had the Jolly Roger and had the same opinion. One of my kids had the Margherita pizza. It was a little burnt on the crust but was good. My eldest had the kids smash burger and fries. She said she didn't like how much cheese it had (she's picky though) and ate most of it. French fries were yummy! My youngest, 19 months, had the chicken strips and fries and let me just say, I really think they need to make an adults version! It was so good, it was lightly battered all the way around and did not taste or feel oily! My only way to describe it is "light" and seasoned just enough. The rest of our party also had a couple of pizzas and Waiaka burger along with The Five fries. Was nice to have so many dipping options. For dessert, we shared the brownie sundae skillet with our choice of Ube ice cream. Hot brownies and cold ice cream is where it's at! My friend had a mai tai or maybe it was a mojito, the guys shared a pitcher of big wave which was about 2 refills each for them, and I had the lava flows which was so good I had 2. They actually give you different flavor options other than the classic strawberry! At the end of the night, we all agreed we'd come back again. I'd definitely say it is a family friendly place, we had ages 19 months, 3, 5 and 9 years old. Also, I can't forget the beautiful view. Hands down the best view on ali'i drive. I almost forgot to mention, and I think it's worth mentioning, that we had split checks. We ended up sharing a pitcher of beer and the nachos between the entire party and our waitress split the price between both parties!
