Like seriously you can't even see the drop down as you push your car over the edge. If somebody is coming up from the other direction you are pretty much screwed. It was really quite terrifying. The card reader at the pump looked super sketchy so I went inside to pay, not wanting to expose my card to whatever virus the reader might hold. The wife needed to use the restroom and was told there was a port a potty out back so off she went. She looked pale and shaken when she got back into the Jeep. When I opened my mouth to speak she just shook her head and said, "Don't ask. Just drive." Later on she confessed to me that it was the nastiest port a potty she had ever seen, bar none. As we left I noticed another fuel stop across the street a few hundred feet down the road. I'll probably give that one a try next time.

She didn't know if we had a rental car or not, and also rental cars don't "act" any different than any other car. We had literally shredded our tire twenty mins prior and we were running on the spare and it needed a top off. She wouldn't tell us where we could find air either. Luckily we went over to Ace, which really is the place with the helpful hardware folks, and they gave us air for free with a smile.

It was the last gas station for the next two hours drive. I remember running into the store while Mr. Wong Yuen put gas in our vehicle. They still put gas for you! Mrs. Wong Yuen would be at the register and greet me right away with a smile. I would always grab a bun with red beans and shrimp chips. They had a tab for my dad so I would run out without paying. Today it's a hole in the wall place. Things are expensive here because it cost so much to get things to these parts. Support our local mom and pop shops.

Usually it's in the mid to late afternoon, so sometimes I buy my "Linner" to take to the airport and eat it there (maybe even sneak it into the airport restaurant (after buying a drink there) occasionally! Shhh!!! .... ) So I almost always get a small take out container with a scoop of rice and 1 or 2 pieces of their fried Korean Chicken. Yum! That, add some cabbage that has been soaking in that Korean BBQ sauce, put it over the rice.... yum P: When you look at the display case, it might look unassuming, but (in my opinion) it is ONO! Best part is crunching on the saucy skin! Kinda on the pricey side for a piece of chicken and not the most heart healthy ... but oh well, heck, I'm on travel, so it's not like I'm buying it everyday! Gas prices are typically "Kona" (expensive) ... but within the ballpark of other places. But this is one of the more convenient stops I make along the Queen K Highway on the way to the airport... It had that small-town feel where you walk in and instantly feel welcomed, like you've been there before. We grabbed what we needed, but what stood out was the aloha spirit--real, not forced. The kind that reminds you why places like this matter, especially when you're out there trying to help and stay grounded at the same time. The hospitality hit different. Conversations turned into connections, and before we knew it, we were getting names of people in the area who could use a hand. That's the kind of place this is--it doesn't just serve the community, it is the community. Left with supplies, but more importantly, left with purpose and a deeper respect for the people holding it all together.
