I rented a paint sprayer and paid the deposit and fee several days early. I arrived at 8 am…read morethinking it would be ready to go. Not so! Richard, the yard person checked to see if it was working by spraying water and noticed it leaking out of a gasket near the tip holder. He said it would be fine using paint because it would be too thick to lead. Then he told me I would have to purchase a sprayer tip at Home Depot. I was not told this either verbally on the phone by the office person when I paid for the rental, nor was it written on my service agreement. Richard called his supervisor, Willie, who said it is standard with this rental that the customer provides the spray tip. I asked why I was not told this when I initially rented it. He said the office people should have told me since they know this. Willie did not apologize or take any responsibility for this oversight. He blamed the oversight on the office staff. I took the equipment and went to HD and bought the tip. By this time it is already 9:30 am. When we set up the sprayer at home my friend- who is very experienced using paint sprayers, discovered it was leaking so badly even using paint, that it was not operable. He pointed out a gasket below the tip where the leak originated, dripping a stream of paint onto the ground. I took the sprayer back, a long drive back and forth to Keauhou, and told Gwen about the situation and asked for a refund of the equipment AND the tip I bought at HD. She said she would give me an equipment refund, but had to get permission to give me a refund on the tip. I then went to Home Depot and purchased a paint sprayer for $265.00 which worked perfectly. It makes no sense to rent equipment that requires the customer to purchase essential parts in order to use it. The tip cost me $35. The rental was $130 per day. Do the math! Gwen called yesterday to say that Willie did not approve refunding me for the tip- which I left with her, anticipating that he would do the right thing. Wrong on that! She said he would talk with me about it if I called him. I lost 2 1/2 hours out of my work time to deal with this situation. I'm not putting in any more of my time on this. A huge sign hanging above the office door proclaims the values of Service Rentals- including descriptors like humble and innovators. Please take the sign down. What I experienced was faulty equipment being rented. If the yard people had checked it earlier in the week after I paid for it they would have figured this out. The office staff told me that they did not know that customers would have to rent a tip. Willie, threw the staff under the bus, blaming two people for not communicating, when it looks like the poor communication was on his end. Accountability is good customer service. I would still like a refund on the spray tip. The office staff and yard person, Richard were very caring, but it's clear that no-one there felt able to stand up to Willie.
