He takes his family to Dr. Marsha Tanabe (who, conveniently, happens to share a practice--and a marriage--with Jon Tanabe), and they rave about the Tanabes. I had to check it out. The staff are immediately friendly and welcoming. Jade the receptionist is a gem (no pun intended), and the nurses are fantastic and gentle. Appointment reminders are friendly and not at all pestering. Dr. Jon is very thorough and supportive of oral health. No lectures or stern warnings--just concern and good advice for taking care of your teeth. He's an Ohio State grad, too, so if you're into midwest collegiate action, chat him up. He's very amenable to building strong relationships with his patients. My teeth have not felt cleaner or healthier than when I started seeing Dr. Jon. I'm fortunate enough to have solid dental insurance coverage, and I don't usually need special services like fillings, etc., so I'm able to afford everything pretty easily. In this case, my favorite dentist, Dr Emory Young, my favorite office peeps and my all-time, iron-clad, extremely caring and talented dental hygienist Suzie! I was there yesterday for a cleaning before I dashed off to a fancy gala event. Since I last wrote my review, I must admit I have strayed to another dental location out of sheer laziness and not wanting to drive to town...big mistake! I don't want to bad-mouth (get it, 'mouth'?) the other dental office but let's just say I wasn't very impressed. Once you've had a really stellar experience it's hard to expect anything less. Should I break it down for you? Honesty: my mouth had fallen prey to a dishonest dentist who ruined my teeth promising and assuring me that capping all my teeth with crowns was a good idea, even if my teeth did not need crowns. Ever since he messed me up, I've needed gum surgery and root canals. Dr. Emory Young is the total opposite, he won't try to sell you things you don't need. You'd think dentists are supposed to be honest but watch out for the ones who tell you your whole mouth should be crowned. Communication: Dr. Emory is great at it. He will explain everything in plain English. Maybe he'll tell you about his surfing experiences or his smart talented daughter too. He's easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease. You can ask him anything and he'll give you a straight answer. He always makes me laugh, and that is hard for a dentist to do (childhood trauma with dentists...gives me nightmares) Awesome cleanings: I'm not just saying Suzie is the best on the island because I've been going to her for years, but because I've had my teeth cleaned by other (ahem) dental offices that don't really do such a thorough job. I've had one hygienist tell me "wow your teeth are so clean" and proceeds to rush through the cleaning because, apparently my teeth are so clean they don't need deep cleaning? She also told my husband the exact same thing so I'm thinking she tells everyone the same thing? Clean or not, you'll get your money's worth with Suzie. She will take the time to examine your face from the outside in. She actually found an abcess on my gum on a routine cleaning that was painless but turned out to be a huge deal. If it wasn't for Suzie I may have lost the tooth. Ease in making appointments: Suzie has Saturday cleanings too! Call way in advance :-) I could go on and on but just make that cleaning appointment and see for yourself! You're welcome.

I generally don't mind going to the dentist but I can't say it's something I look forward to. The Cure: I got in contact with Dr. Austin Choy, explained my situation and he scheduled me right away. The office was nice and clean, everyone is friendly, helpful, and professional. Dr. Austin Choy did an amazing job at cleaning and replacing my filling. He also gave me a thorough and detailed evaluation of my teeth. He also recommended that I pull out one of my wisdom teeth which was also in the top left corner of my mouth. It was my first time removing a wisdom tooth so I wasn't sure what to expect. He applied the anesthetic and pulled it out nice and easy, with no discomfort at all. It has healed nicely and it feels so much better now that food doesn't get stuck in there and I don't have to worry about cleaning such a hard to reach area. It was an overall excellent experience and Dr. Austin Choy did an amazing job.I will be returning here for all my future dental needs and procedures. Side note: If you're looking for an awesome teeth cleaning, the Dental Hygienist Brianna Goto excels at her profession. My teeth feel so smooth and clean after every visit and my teeth are always noticeably whiter because she does such a good job cleaning the stains. As the spouse of a local doctor I hate having to write a review like this but considering how bad…read morethis experience ended I feel it's necessary to provide the following opinion to help prospective patients of Dr. Austin Choy make a better informed decision about seeking treatment. I blame myself in part for not asking enough of the right questions up front. If I had, I would have known he was not the right doctor for me. Unfortunately, I experienced judgment over the course of treatment, then disrespectful and ugly behavior to get rid of me. It appears to me that Dr. Choy preference is for simple, straightforward, easy patients that don't have any kinds of issues and that's not me. Which he knew. I was extremely upfront about my health issues, medications that affect my teeth, and the fact I genetically have bad teeth on Day1. He had every opportunity upfront to say we were not matched, but he didn't. I understand the Why he didn't want me to continue but, he handled the How very poorly. It was so bad, it's why I need to write this review. Some doctors are passionate about caring for and helping others. That is not what I experienced and have little confidence that you would experience it either. For others it's just a means to an end and those doctors want as easy a life as possible. Ask the right questions so you can decide for yourself which one you want treating you.
