Hubby recommended Dr Oka to me. He said they're amazing. Didn't disappoint. From the time I stepped into the office to the time I left, every single person was cheerful, courteous, thoughtful, and kind. They must take happy pills b4 starting their day. Not only that, but Dr Oka is super thorough with his exam. He's gentle and well educated. I felt very well informed and taken care of. Even better, for you seniors, they accept Medicare. Because I loved, loved, loved my previous dentist, it was really a hard decision to switch, but overall, I believe it was for my benefit. read more

Dr. Tanaka had been my dentist previously and has passed the reins to Dr. Oka to enjoy a well-deserved retirement. Dr. Oka put a crown over a cracked molar and I must say that DR. Paul rocks... And no, he is not the former Mayor of Gardena CA! Even though he has the same name. Paul and his fantastic team of "Dentifists" work together to make every visit an experience you do not expect. It starts with the moment you walk into the lobby area. There is always a special theme all over the walls and counters...it might be favorite movies, favorite movie stars, songs of the disco era or a sports theme. And there is an espresso machine and bottled water for you while you wait. Keep your eyes peeled for the free entry box where you can enter your name to win a special treat related to the theme of the month. Wow....it makes waiting fun and truly a unique experience. Paul is always gentle if he needs to numb you...and has very gentle hands. Always asking how you are doing during the process. His team has his personality and they all work together like a tight knit family. You really feel like you have entered someone's home when you step into the office. So much warm aloha.... I have been going to Paul for my dental needs for over 20 years! He treats me the same, even if we attended rival high schools....haha! It is ok, we do not talk about local football much. Dr. Tanaka is excellent! The office is always decorated in a new theme every time I go. This week was a Vegas motif and you can fill in a keno card to win a prize. They also have coffee, tea, water, juice, and snacks go enjoy in the lobby and always have a newspaper handy for idle reading. They have 3 or 4 chairs in the back. When you get your teeth clean you can watch the fish swim in the fish tank so that's relaxing. Everything is state of the art. They have a picture of what each of my teeth looks like on the computer. All of the cleaning tools are electronic. When I went, first they checked my jaw, bite and lymph nodes. Then the hygienist measured my gums and do some other checks. Then she brushed my teeth with a slow speed polisher. Then instead of the usual teeth scrapers (I guess they are called scalpers), this one is electronic. For good measure she followed up with a manual scaler. Finished up with flossing and fluoride and I wad good. My teeth are sooooo clean after I leave. They keep contemporaneous records of my allergies, new medical issues, etc. Thanks Dr. Tanaka and his awesome hygienists! read more

I can't stress how much I appreciate Dr. Tanaka and his staff!! In the beginning of this year, I've recently had really bad front teeth, I had cracked it when I was younger and received a "temp filling". He was able to fix my smile and make it look a million times better. I love it. The downfall, couple of weeks ago, my tooth chipped again. I'm very pleased with who Dr. Tanaka was able to take me in even without an appointment. For that, I am forever grateful. Otherwise, I'd be walking around with a chipped tooth. This chipped tooth has nothing to do with his work, I was told because I do some heavy grinding at night, it's recommended I get a night guard. Due to financial obligations I'm not able to get it but I'm glad that Dr. tanaka and his staff are so helpful and friendly and really help me as much as they can. I absolutely love Dr. Tanaka and his crew. I have got to say that Dr. tanaka is number one in my world! :) read more

I had some small chips in my front teeth and he was able to fill them and make them look like new. I honestly have never left a dentist's office feeling this satisfied. 10/10 would definitely recommend. Dr. Tanaka is FANTASTIC!! Every time I walk through his door, I feel like I'm a celebrity. Subsequently, the whole entire visit feels like I'm receiving the Ritz Carlton 5 star treatment. I went in for replacement of my amalgam fillings, and I didn't want to leave. The staff treated me to a movie of my choice to keep me distracted, numbed the area before using the needle (painless might I add), and ended with a nice lemon scented towel to wipe my face clean. On top of that, I left with tasty treats and a chance to win a gift basket of great goodies. If you think this is wonderful... this will happen ALL the time you go into this office for any procedure. Dr. Tanaka has managed to change the dreaded dental experience to a party scene. You may think the office decorations, snacks and beverages are just a ploy to take your mind off the real business. But not so. The work is painless and on the cutting edge technologically. It really is painless and you forget everything for longer visits because you get to watch a movie of your choice. Really shocked at how the office manager handles new patients, (Jen), and how their office staff handles new patients, (Liz). Never had this happen before and even been in the medical field myself and would never do this to a patient; I had scheduled an appointment with Dr. Tanaka, after a root canal done from an amazing dentist, Dr. Mirua. I had unfortunately gone quite some time without a crown and scheduled this appointment with Dr. Tanaka while on the mainland, anticipating a trip back to Oahu. When I called to set up the appointment i gave the office staff my insurance information and everything. Unfortunately, my flight to come back was changed and therefore I had to change my appointment with the dentist too, Dr. Tanaka. Among arriving back in Honolulu, there was an emergency and I was sick, where I again had to reschedule with Dr. Tanaka. Again, calling in advance and even asking if there was a change fee, offering to cover it, and of course apologizing. Life happens. Anyhow, Dr. Tanaka's staff, I believe the office manager, tells me that the only time they can see me is after my scheduled flight back to the mainland. (I was only scheduled to be in Honolulu for two weeks). I try to see if they have anything sooner, but they do not. Therefore, given it's been over six months without a crown, I agree to come in on the 24th at 950am. Despite my flight being through Hawaiian Airlines on the 22nd, and me having to pay a $200 change fee, I reschedule my life, to correlate with their schedule. I also had to reschedule my car ship date off the island from the 23rd to the 6th just so I can make the appointment with Dr. Tanaka on the 24th. Today is March 22nd, 2016, and I get a phone call from Dr. Tanaka's staff, asking me if I will be prepared to pay $1200 cash at tomorrow's appointment? Even though I already gave them my insurance information and they already scheduled me several times, they call me less then 24 hours before my appointment, (that I already changed my flight for costing me $200), and say I need to pay $1200 cash tomorrow. I ask why was that not mentioned from the get-go? I was told, "you didn't ask," by the office manager. Well, I was also NOT asking any other time, and it's quite ironic to call me the day before my scheduled appointment, AFTER I change my flight, COSTING me $200, and now tell me I need to pay $1200 for a co-pay? It's not like they did not have at least a solid 30 days to mention there would be a $1200 co-pay needed up-front in cash. I mean this is comical. I can't even imagine how many fake cavities they pretend people have, root canals, all for money, all to screw over the patient's health, and make out like bandits. $1200 and I have a PPO insurance plan? That is just funny. read more
