Dr. Wes Sato to the rescue... again. Don't chomp on hard toffee! Yup, broke a tooth off! Dr. Sato wears a hero cape in my humble opinion. I called for an appointment the next day and the office was fantastic in squeezing me in to see Dr. Sato. Within a short time later, abracadabra, my tooth was fixed. Pain free and I was a happy camper. Thank you Dr. Wes Sato! I'll stay away from toffee for now. read more

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Kaimuki Dental Group! Everyone is so kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about their patients. Moriah (I hope I'm spelling her name right!) has been my dental hygienist this year and she is so wonderful and informative. I'm so appreciative of the excellent care! read more

When my front tooth needed to be replaced Dr Jaci Young at Kaimuki Dental Group was very patient In explaining my options including the actual cost of each procedure. I chose to do a bridge because my cost with HDS coverage was quite affordable compared to an implant. Within 2 appointments about a month apart the procedure was completed. I had minimal pain during the treatment and found Dr.Young very gentle reassuring in the way she worked. Dr.Young and her hygienist Wendy were great. I've been going to Kaimuki Dental for 50 years and have always found them to be good when it came to recommending treatments and payments too. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Chinn for almost 40 years. Excellent care and always outstanding customer service. When he retired I continued my visits until the younger dentist made an unpleasant facial expression in my presence. Then I kindly called the office to ask to have my dental records sent to my new dentist located near me in Mililani. I was told they were stored in another location within their facillity. It was the reluctance to do so that really hurt. I replied that she need not hurry because my next appt. would be in a few months. Truly miss Dr. Chinn and his staff. read more

Just had my first visit here and everyone was so friendly!! Mariah was my dental hygienist and she made my experience so pleasant which can be hard for me to say about going to the dentist. She was so thorough, attentive, considerate, and personable. Can't wait to come back! Mahalo!!! read more

We'vw been going to Kaimuki Dental for a while now. Asusual on time and the service was/is great.

Everytime I visit Kaimuki Dental I feel very taken care of. Their service is very friendly and I am so grateful I found them!

They rescheduled me for a teeth cleaning. After 30 mins wait. I got 8 x ray pictures I don't need. She was originally said only two X-ray needed. The whole process of teeth cleaning only lasted 7 mins. I left before having to wait another 20 mins for the assistant to reschedule. read more

Dr. Wright is awesome. He's very gentle, personable and makes you feel comfortable. I was very nervous going to a new dentist but he and his assistant put me at ease. read more

Eighteen + years of coming to Kaimuki Dental Group and counting. Mostly I see dad (Dr. Mendel Sato), but lately I've seen one of his sons, Dr. Wesley Sato, a few times. Dad and I actually went to the same university in St. Louis, Missouri (albeit in different fields). My favorite hygienist just retired (sad face), but we still keep in touch. I am really picky about dental hygienists and Lois was tops. They do their best to stay on schedule and do a good job of it. There was a period of about two years when things were really bad and they were very supportive. They were also willing to work with me when I had large bills, such as for crowns. All of this was so appreciated. They referred me to a great endodontist and also a great oral surgeon. The office is on the third (top) floor of Kaimuki Shopping Center. There is an elevator, but you must go to the lowest level (1st floor) and get out in front of Times Supermarket, then go to the right, for the only barrier-free access to the elevator. Getting to the elevator from the middle, or 2nd floor, which is at street level, requires going up a short flight of stairs. My eye doctor's office is literally a few doors down. After all these years, I finally wised up: When it's time for my annual eye exam, I schedule it right after one of my dental cleanings / check-ups. I was able to synch the two and so far it has worked out really well. read more

Full disclosure, I work there too. Just started a few months ago. I had Dr. Bryan Sato do a comprehensive oral exam and he also gave me tooth like fillings for some cavities. I'm very anxious about getting dental work. I had a really bad experience as a child. It was a very pleasant experience. My teeth look fabulous and it didn't hurt at all. Let's face it. That's the most important thing. Dr. Bryan suggested I use my air pods to listen to music during the treatment. It was a great suggestion and it made it a lot less stressful. I highly recommend Dr. Bryan Sato for your dental needs. You won't be disappointed. read more

Kaimuki Dental was the most relaxed and caring dental experience I've ever had. I cracked my tooth on popcorn & they were able to book an emergency appointment with me asap. Dr. Mendel took the time to explain what he was doing with the dental tools and drills beforehand. He promised to take the conservative route with my care where other dentists have made mad money grabs in their recommendations. This will be my new dentistry home for sure. read more

Great front office people, and love my hygienist whom I have been going to over 12 years. Like my dentist, for he does a good job on my family read more

This place is amazing!!! What I love is that it is very: -Easy to schedule an appointment -Absolutely such empathetic, funny, and kind staff -Perfect dental work! My teeth feel absolutely tremendous! I would assume a plethora of people have anxiety of going to the dentist. This is the place to go for everyone. The staff help make you feel very relaxed. This place is also located by a variety great restaurants. So you can have your teeth taken care of, then go next door and do some banking, get groceries, get a fishing pole (lol), and get food. read more

So.... I have not been to a dentist is a very very long time. Naturally I had pretty bad anxiety about going back. Every single person I had interaction with here was so pleasant! My appointment of two hours was a breeze. The quality of service they provided is amazing. I couldn't have been more pleased and I'm excited to be going back on a regular basis. Thank you all so much! read more

I have been coming to Kaimuki Dental for years and all the staff are competent and nice. I had to get a crown over an old filling. That procedure went smoothy, but when I had lingering pain in the area I was concerned the crown made it worse. Dr. Wesley Sato took the time further explain the procedure, what could be causing the pain, and promised to follow up if the pain continued. A couple months out and everything seems settled. I appreicated the reassurance though. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Fukuda for at least 20+ years. I had a horrific dentist before who even asked me to sit on the floor and measured my legs stating one is longer than the other which is probably why I grind my teeth. Wth? Anyways, Dr. Fukuda is the best. He is soft spoken and thorough. My cleanings are about 1/2hr and that includes x-rays once a yr. Lois and most currently Tracey are great hygienists. The place isn't the most luxurious. It's kinda dark and dreary but not too dreary. It always smells like mildew when you walk in, but I think that's just their smell. They have floating objects or posters to look at while you are reclined back being worked on. You are given a new toothbrush, traveler's size toothpaste and floss when they are done with you. Sometimes they have other freebies at check-out for you to sample. Parking is at the Kaimuki shopping center. Park on top as they are on the top floor (closer to mauka side). The end of the staircase leads you directly to their office. read more

Dr. Mendal Sato...is the best I've been going to him for over 30+ yrs. Very fast n efficient, unfortunately he'll be retiring soon but he totally deserves it mahalo for all the years!!! read more

Their office is located on the 3rd floor of the Kaimuki Shopping Center right above the Cookie Corner (follow the smell!). You can take the elevator, but it's easier to walk up the staircase next to the cookie store. Their waiting room has just the right amount of space with about a dozen chairs and they have issues of Highlights for Children, Newsweek, Time, People and some other popular fare. Their customer base appears to range from young keiki (children) to adults to the elderly. For the last 10 years or so, I've been on the search for a local dentist in town that I could establish a good relationship with and see on a regular basis. I come from a small town of 50,000 where "everybody knows everybody" and had only one dentist and one doctor growing up. It was invaluable because all of the members of my family saw them, they knew our names and watched us grow up, were familiar with our medical/dental histories, etc. There that sense of comfort that I miss. I haven't quite been able to replicate finding that one good dentist, but I think I may have found it here. Upon seeking recommendations from friends, co-workers and relatives, a good friend of mines recommended Dr. Mendel Sato, DMD at Kaimuki Dental Group. Him and his family have been seeing him for DECADES. Okay, that's a good sign. I called to make an appointment, but he was booked, so they asked me if I wanted to be seen by his son, Dr. Wesley Sato. I figured, "He must be just as good" and agreed to it. Much to my surprise, he was close to MY age! I'm not used to having a dentist that's within my age bracket. He looks like he could still get carded for buying cigarettes, but found interacting with him to be refreshing since we're within the same generation gap. I grilled him with questions about gold inlays, ceramic inlays and other concerns I had about my teeth and he addressed them to my satisfaction. He's a no-frills type of guy who gave his simple, honest feedback to me about what he thought was best for my teeth (choosing between a 2 fillings I was debating about). He performed two fillings and made sure that my mouth was perfectly numb prior to starting. Prior to that, he explained to me what he would be working on and that I would probably expect to feel some pressure in my mouth. He also advised me to raise my right hand if I felt any pain (trust me, I took advantage of that 2-3 times!) and would stop and issue me me more numbing meds when I did. I want to punch the face of my previous dentist because he said the same thing, but neglected to give me more numbing meds while he was drilling my teeth. He'd momentarily stop, take a look at me, and tell me, "Just a little more. Wait, just a little more" and would keep drilling while I can feel the drill hitting the sensitive spot on my gums! I left him shortly thereafter. The dental hygienists and office staff are all so hospitable and accommodating. The office staff will call you a day or two before your appointment as a reminder and, if there's an earlier appointment time available due to another patient cancelling, they'll call to ask if you want to come in earlier. The hygienists who cleaned my teeth were extremely thorough, very conscientious (they'd offer sincere apologies when water from the small mouth spray would splash some droplets on my face & would wipe it up with a napkin), and gave me a truthful and comprehensive evaluation of my dental routine. This was after asking me a series of questions to determine what my normal dental routine was ("How many times a day do you brush?" "Do you floss your teeth?" etc.). They offered several concrete and helpful tips to improve my routine along with the recommendation of several brand name dental products. Finally, at the end of your cleaning and exam, they give you a little "goodie bag" filled with a travel-sized toothpaste, a full-sized toothbrush and small container of floss. :) It's a small gesture, but it's something that helps make my visits a little extra "special." MISC. - At the end of your appointment, you'll be required to pay for your co-payment. I've always paid with my VISA credit card (they might take cash or other credit cards). You'll be provided with a detailed receipt showing your portion of the charges, what services were provided, etc. - The office staff is super sweet & polite! - Lots of geriatrics come here to shop at Longs Drugs or go to other doc appointments, so watch out for them in the parking lot! I can't sing enough good praises about Dr. Mandel Sato! My husband and I have tried several dentist and never have felt more at ease than with him. His office staff, assistant and facilities are top notch. As for Dr. Sato, he is patient, kind and explains everything, so you feel comfortable. My husband was disappointed about another dentist we tried at Ala Moana because basically he was in and out without explanation, came in for the follow up appointment and it's a good thing he asked for the price because it was going to be like $600 for procedures he never agreed to. When he saw Dr. Sato, he was more realistic about his needs and best interest. Dr. Sato isn't in it for the money, but just an all around great guy and knowledgeable dentist. read more

I've been here a few times for either my husband or my own dentist appointment. I go to Mendel Sato... but there are quite a few dentist options to choose from. I actually like this dentist... unlike my last few. There was always something that irritated me with them, whether it was their hygenists or their receptionists... whatever. They're actually always friendly here and willing to help find a time that works for you. They also are really flexible on your payment plans which is nice. It's also nice to get courtesy reminder calls for your upcoming appointments. You never wait long and the hygenists are nice when cleaning your teeth and don't criticize your teeth brushing skills... mine are terrible I know... even with an electric toothbrush... go Sonicare lol. Also if you're a new patient, they spend an hour with you that day doing a new patient consultation so you know what you're getting into with them. It's nice :). Come here if you're looking for a new dentist. Also, their waiting room is nice and always clean and tidy! read more

i agree with the previous review. Dr. Wesley Sato is a great dentist, takes time to explain things and most impressively had an iPad to show me figures while educating me. Yes he has an iPad - so he must be cool. The office calls 1 week ahead of time and then 1 day ahead of time. My hygienist (I didn't catch her name) was thorough and efficient. Plenty of parking, didn't wait long in the waiting room, which had plenty of People magazines and other gossips rags to keep me occupied. You book dentist and hygienist appts separately though - so allot 1 hour for each. My consecutive visits took a total of about 1.5 hours. But I have very good teeth. read more

I was taken on as an emergency patient by Doctor Franklin Fukuda. That was a year and some months ago. I usually hate dentists and hygienists visits, but I'm learning to like it. Yes, I said "like." Being that I was not the dentist-seeing type, my gums were in a deplorable state. The first visit I had was due to a tooth infection that gave me a giant left cheek. After that visit, I did have to have replacement fillings and dun-dun-dun . . . root canals. Ahhhhhhh! Some people make it sound scary and/or the worst procedure to go through. Adverse as it may sound, my root canals were fine. I felt no pain and Doctor Fukuda was thorough, efficient and pretty humorous. I'm not sure if it was because he meant to be or just that I laugh at everything. Either way, I was laughing. I'm not sure if he is accepting new patients at this time, but if so, he's a keeper! Then there was "Aunty Lois." She is one of the dental hygienists at KDG and I can honestly say that I love her! She helped me get a total gum makeover. She showed me the "Aunty Lois Flossing Method," and my gums have never bled again since her SECOND cleaning. Because even after the first I was being stubborn and wasn't flossing regularly. With these two, I know I'm in good hands! read more

I've been going to Kaimuki Dental Group for about a year now, which means I've really only had two routine check-ups and cleaning. Making appointments and rescheduling are very easy and they accept HDS plans. They make a courtesy reminder call about a week before your appointment. Their office is located on the 3rd floor of the Kaimuki Shopping Plaza- Times is on the ground floor, Longs on the second and a bunch of other offices on the third floor. Typical wait time is about 5-15 minutes, depending on staff and patients. The waiting room is kind of dark and dreary for a dental clinic, but they have friendly people behind the counter. The patient rooms are oddly decorated with kites and children-looking arts and craft projects. I guess I'm not rating their interior design skills but rather their service. Maybe because I've only seen my dentist (Dr B. Sato) a couple times, but he doesn't talk as much as my previous dentist (I've been his patient for about 10 years and he was great!). However, he's very thorough and professional. I've had my teeth cleaned by Dr. B Sato and the hygienist and both times they left my teeth feeling VERY "my-gums-were-almost-sore-and-bleeding" clean! No cavities here :]B read more

Dr. Wes Sato is fantastic! The whole staff at Kaimuki Dental are great. I've been in need of a new dentist and have been traumatized from office visits as a child. From the front staff, to the dental assistants... everyone contributes to the great office environment. Robbi, is my fave! She's so sweet, gentle, and thorough. I am excited for my next visit and never thought that I would enjoy the dentist again. I highly recommend Kaimuki Dental Group!! read more

I have been going to Kaimuki Dental Group for over two year now. My dentist is Dr. Kay Cooney and she is very professional and personable. Over the time that I have been going here I have had several cleanings, fillings, and currently changing out all my old silver fillings to the white composite resin. From the first time I met Dr. Cooney she was very straight forward with me explaining the pros and cons to the different dental work I was considering. She understood my situation and was able to tailor a tentative plan to have all the work done in a timely manner within my budget. Aside from the above mentioned work I had a tooth crack in half (caused from the expansion of one of my old silver fillings) which left me with a sharp fragmented tooth in my mouth. I was able to get an appointment within a reasonable time and after Dr. Cooney looked at the tooth assured me that she could fix it without having to preform a crown. She did an amazing job and the tooth has never bothered me since. Dr. Cooney always makes me feel important. Even though I'm sure it is written in my patient notes somewhere... she picks up in conversation right where we had left off and tries to fill in the time gap in-between leaving you with a feeling that she truly cares. I also love how they call to remind you about appointments. I am a very busy person and even when it is written in my schedule it is nice to have a reminder, especially when the office staff has always been very friendly. read more

I just started going to this dental group. The lady who cleaned my teeth was lovely and chatty. She did a quick job, and gave me a ton of free samples. I had chipped my tooth and needed to see a dentist asap! My dentist is in CA and who is also my sister. She is so good that my expectations of dental services has not been met in HI; therefore, I have not selected a dentist in HI in the past 10 years! Referred by a friend, I trusted her and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Bryan Sato. In about an hour, I checked in, took an xray of my chipped tooth and my tooth was fixed! Dr. Bryan Sato was very personable, experienced, gentle, efficient and skilled at dentistry! The only thing I would've liked was if he would tell me what he was doing while working on my tooth. However, he did tell me before he started what he was going to do and after he was done he gave me instructions for next steps, but I like to know what's going on during the procedure as well, it gives me less anxiety. His assistant, Susie was also nice and professional and they work well with each other. I'm so happy my chipped tooth is fixed!! Most importantly, I now have a dentist that I can count on for my dental needs in HI! Mahalo Dr. Sato & Susie!! read more

I was in excruciating pain for 5 hours before I found a dentist to help me. I had called here with no medical and his staff were more worried of my pain than how I will be paying. I'm not a big fan of Dentist, Ive been hurt in the past several of times and I dint bother to look for dentists again. I nearly almost fell asleep while he was doing my root canal procedure today because it was so calming and not painful! I had Dr Sato and he was great, he worked well with me and he was very patient. He understood I'm not a big fan of dentist so he was extremely patient with me. But I feel he is like that to all his patients. Every time I said i felt it or was in some sort of pain, he'd stop and numb that area a little more and it was just a great experience. I'm pretty set I want to stay with him as my dentist. His staff members were also very helpful over the phone and in person. In overall I am very happy with them and will continue to keep coming here. Super great, also at a convenient location. BTW you are reading a review from someone who's had dentists turn me away for being very irritable during a procedure, not sitting still, cant be quiet, and basically hate dentist! :) read more
