I've been a patient at Landmark Dental for over a year and have received nothing but quality care from Landmark. I just left Landmark's office and the administrative team treated me with such disrespect that I felt compelled to write this review. few months ago when I was between jobs and uninsured, they sold me a package which included 2 free cleanings as well as a discount on other dental services. I recently accepted a new job which provides dental insurance in network with Landmark. When I called to confirm coverage, the person who answered the phone stated my current dentist at Landmark was in network with my new HMSA Dental plan. I then asked them about the package that I already signed up for with 2 free cleanings. I want to be very clear: I was NOT asking for a refund on that package, but dental insurance always has maximums and limits so I wanted to make sure that the cleaning I already paid for would not be put through my new insurance. The woman on the phone said "we've never had a case like this before"; furthermore, she stated that Landmark would most likely bill my insurance company for the cleaning for which I had already paid Landmark. I live down the street and left their office around 45 minutes ago. When I asked to speak with an office/billing manager, the woman who greeted me when I entered said "no, they're not here." When I asked when they'd be back, she said "you can check back in the morning." When I started to ask about the double billing, she stated "you need to talk to the manager about that." At that point, the woman who sold me the initial package was at the counter, and I directly asked her if she remembered selling it to me and she said she had not. I told her that nowhere does it state that Landmark has the right to bill my insurance for the cleanings I already paid for. At that point, she looked for to a 3rd woman (presumably the office manager/administrator that was supposedly absent as told to me by the first employee) and asked her about it. She told me that when I came in for me next exam & cleaning, Landmark fully intended to bill my insurance company for the cleaning I already paid for. When I protested, they said the only way they wouldn't bill my insurance for the cleaning I already paid for is if I scheduled the exam and cleaning on different days. TLDR: Great dental care, but SLEAZY and HORRIBLE billing practices. Landmark has no qualms about billing insurance for services which patients already paid for. PS - At least during one of my office visits, they had signs up offering discounts for Google reviews - take all the 5 stars there with a grain of salt. read more

I'd been going to this office for years when I was told I needed more dental work. I was shocked at the cost, since I have excellent insurance. That's when I found out the office was no longer covered. No one ever informed me; one day it was covered, the next it wasn't. Patients deserve transparency, and being given a dental work quote as if insurance is included (when it's not) feels sneaky and unethical. On my initial visit, I was greeted by a friendly staff *who took X-rays of my teeth in an impressive, high-tech facility. Then, Dr. Chow promptly came into the exam/treatment room. He listened attentively and answered my questions thoroughly. He was very approachable. At the end of my visit, I was given an estimate for my future treatment at the billing desk. I appreciate their efficient system being transparent and informative. On my scaling visit, I saw the dental hygienist, Erika, who was skillful and super professional. *I forgot the lady's name. My dentist is retiring. Landmark was recommended. My mom who is 100 went for her quarterly cleaning. Dr Stern checked her and found a crown and part of the tooth cracked, recommending repair, and for another tooth extraction. Dental hygienist was great. Will not return as coverage for quarterly cleaning was not covered, though the provider is HDS participating. Front desk was lazy. Told them the primary insurance has always covered cleaning. Paid the $84 and left...never to return again. Also gave an estimate for tooth repair...but didn't trust the front desk. When the appt. was made and insurance info was given...it should have been mentioned that they are not participating (in this case GEHA). When someone is 100...you don't make the patient walk from one room to another. You make the staff walk. Auwe! read more

This dentist office is the worst. I had to go in for some major work, two cavities and a crown installed the appointment took 3 1/2 hours and as a handicap Dialysis patient, I let them know as soon as I got there that I was feeling very weak that day and very tired, and I was assured by my Dentist and in front of his Nurse that I would be snoring through the whole thing and painless as long as the Novacaine did it's job and that they were going to use mouth blockers to keep my mouth open to reduce the strain on me ! not only did they refuse to use that. He went in aggressive, thinking he could finish sooner, thus torturing me to the point where I was sobbing in the chair!! SOBBING!!! I was so fatigued and disoriented as I was leaving that I collapsed in the middle of a crosswalk, I had walked to landmark Dental from just a couple blocks away. When I complained before I left, no apology no escort, no intervention whatsoever even though I was on the verge of fainting, they had no interest in seeing if I was recovered enough to walk myself home, the first and only thing they cared about was how I was to pay the bill ? I weakly commented that I walked here so I didn't bring my wallet,. I'm 68 years old. Been on Dialysis for 18 years and instead of treating me with kid gloves like they had professed, they did the opposite and tortured me!! Don't be fooled by the number of stars at this place! They pay people to write a 5 star review. This place is a sweat shop and is by no means 5 stars. They spent a lot of money on the facility but hired the worst, least experienced staff. It's pretty terrible! I'm just annoyed because I spent all this time over there because I saw that it got 5 stars. Plus there's a super pushy lady with a thick accent who works in reception that is just so abrasive! I have been going to Dr. Nagata for foreverrrrrr. I would say probably close to 20 years. I live on Maui now and I still fly over to Honolulu to see him, Colleen, Marina, and Josie. They are all amazing and altho their old office was so convenient (I used to just walk there from my auntys house!), their new location (well, they have been here for a few years now) is beautiful and spacious and surprisingly easy to get to even tho they are in Waikiki now. Luckily they are right at the beginning in the Landmark Building. You can't miss it! Usually Colleen or Marina do my teeth cleaning and they always do a great job. I always have a great appointment with them and it's great to catch up with them since I only see them twice a year! Marina suggested to me at my last appointment to switch to the oral B tooth brush (the one with the circular brush) and it has made such a difference. She showed me how to use it and when I got back to maui, my husband bought the 2 pack at Costco. It really is an amaaaazing tooth brush. Dr. Nagata is a great dentist and I have been going to him for as long as I can remember. I got invisilign a while back and a few visits ago, he noticed that there was a space between my teeth that seemed to be getting bigger even tho I religiously wear my retainers at night. It wasn't noticeable to most people I'm sure but I definitely noticed it and of course he would notice it! He always checks how everything is going when I come in for a cleaning and is always very attentive and cares about what is best for his patients. To close the space, he was going to fill it but asked how I would feel about just wearing some retainer trays again (like the invisilign trays). I didn't mind at all so that's the way we're gonna go. I know most people don't look forward to their dentist appointments but if you have your teeth cleaned by Colleen or Marina and have Dr. Nagata as your dentist, you will definitely start looking forward to your visits. It doesn't matter if you were sick, or they are in a training and you cannot call out giving notice they will still charge you fees for this. You then call to explain and are told how you essentially are wasting their time and that if you want to move forward, and they do waive any fees (for a cancellation due to a sudden illness so that you don't walk in with Covid or because you could not get in touch with them from a training) that they are going to break up your appointments as a punishment to you in case you "waste their time again." It was quite unfortunate as we got along very well when we were patients with the staff as well as the doctors. Due to the unprofessionalism of the front desk staff, I will surely be passing this along and do not advise you move forward coming here as they also tend to try to bring up past appointments during the pandemic when we for safety cancelled. Greedy business ethics for those making these decisions. We understand, policies must be upheld, and you should not be taken advantage of as a business, but if things happen from a business circumstance, or an illness circumstance, it should at least be discussed without an immediate threat of punishment as well as past appointment (due to illness cancellations 5 years ago against you immediately). read more

I went to get a sleep appliance from Dr. Nagata. I've been to this clinic three times and each time my GPS sends me to the wrong side of the building, which is not their fault. It should be noted there is separate parking for building residents and the businesses off of Ala Wei Blvd. They do validate parking. This time when I went, I waited to get seen for 30 minutes, then went to the front desk to let them know that I'd been waiting for a while. They took me back right away. Then when I talked with the Dr, he and his assistant went away and neither came back to check on me for another 17 minutes. So, I found someone again and asked if they could find the Dr. & his assistant again. They did. I will say that once Dr. Nagata was talking to me, he seems to be an attentive dentist who cares about his patients needs. He even gave me other options to take home to try when the primary option didn't work. I don't know if they just have too many patients, or don't keep track of their patients, or what is going on. As a new patient, I found this place by using yelp to find a new dentist who meets my needs. I'm a military spouse so I have to change dentists often wherever my husband's job takes us. Over the past couple of years I have seen 3 different dentists on the island and both had amazing reviews but one was not up to date with dental equipment so when I had a wisdom tooth extraction (2nd one since I left my Cali dentist) I was wide awake but sedated and the oral surgeon was literally tugging on the tooth and I was terrified! Compared to the last oral surgeon I had in Cali, he was gentle and he didn't struggle at all with the wisdom tooth. Cali oral surgeon completed a traumatizing procedure with ease and I kept going back to his office for my dental needs. I finally worked up the courage to find another dentist after that last visit here on island and I was pleased with my Hygienist and Doctor who takes with me and made my first evaluation and exam a pleasant experience! It is located out on the east side of the island and I have to make the trip from the west side but I think they are worth the trip! They gave me a plan after discussing minor issues I had and they provided me with an estimate for the next visit. The office is off of Ala Wai and they have their own parking area in which they validate parking tickets so we don't pay any parking fees. Take the parking elevator up to the 6th floor and out to the far right side of the building. The views are awesome and they have bay windows in the exam rooms. There's a waiting area with magazines, a tv, and a refreshment table behind the tv wall with coffee and water. I look forward to my next visit! read more

Called regarding a toothache, and they were able to squeeze me in to see Dr. Kate Oliver the next day, who was super nice and knowledgeable. My gums were inflamed near my wisdom teeth, and she referred me to oral surgeon to get them taken out. She also thoroughly cleaned the afflicted area in case anything was stuck there. The nurse and staff are also very kind. Everyone there seem to genuinely care. The lady at front desk helped me get an appointment at the oral surgeon and patiently gave them all the information needed. Wonderful establishment with new technology. I was impressed by the x-ray machine! Parking is validated in the garage just don't try to go to the guest/resident parking. Turn in the second entrance for the shops parking. read more

Great office! My wife and I started seeing Dr. Nagata about a year ago when we relocated to Oahu. I was in need of plenty work and Dr. Nagata was able to take care of a few cracks and cavities over a few visits. Very little soreness and gone by the next day. Even made my crown in 45 min. while I waited. The Dental assistants/Techs have a great working relationship with the Doctor which is always a plus to see people enjoy what they do at work. I traveled from Hilo to Oahu to have my teeth cleaned by laurence. I made the appointment 2 months prior. I arrived to find that they put me with someone else. telling me I never specified I wanted Laurence when I had called asking for him specifically. Then they tell me that they had scheduled a 2 hour appointment for a full exam along with a full set of X- rays. when I told them I never scheduled that and did not have time for that, they then forced me to sign a refusal form, for procedures I never asked for or scheduled. then the hygienist I had mentioned several times that they had scheduled me a 2 hour appointment. they NEVER told me that. just scheduled it. considering the fact I'm only on Oahu for a couple of hours, they expect me to be late to my next appointment or just cancel. I was so upset when I left. My mouth from the very rushed cleaning job I had hurt all day. they then hand me a bill for the next time I come in......seriously. I called the next day to speak with the office manager. I was told she could not talk to me as she was leaving....?? It's 9:30 in the morning. another woman called me back only to completely justify the office and staff actions. Telling me it's my fault and they are justified to add on all those extra services.......seriously....UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL this office is dishonest. The receptionist is extremely rude and stupid, lying about me asking specifically for Laurence. could never believe anything they say. they are just trying to make money. when I first stayed going there the waiting room was alway full. now it's empty, I can see why. read more

I decided to do my annual exam at Landstar dental. My decision was based on excellent reviews. Unfortunately I was not impressed by Landmark Dental group. Hygienist that did my cleaning was taking none stop. After her cleaning I start to experience super sensitivity and after 2 weeks still experiencing it. Their prices are super high. I got another quote for the same work 40% less then I was quoted by Landstar. I decided to use another dental office for my future needs. read more

If you're ever in search of a Japanese-speaking dentist, look no further! A friend of mine was visiting from Japan, and needed some urgent dental work (a crown fell out while flossing). What to do??? Luckily, another friend recommended Dr. Yamamoto...and he was able to see my friend within 3 days (and 2 of those days were only because the office is closed Saturday/Sunday)! When we first arrived, the staff (who clearly do not speak any Japanese), were very helpful with check-in, and directed us into the waiting area. There was a nicely-stocked coffee & tea station (self-serve) nearby, offering several Keurig options, and a widescreen television in the waiting area...but when we looked, the television seemed to be showing still pictures...maybe a screensaver? Or maybe it's just meant to help keep patients calm, lol! I should note that the entire office, including the reception area, waiting room & exam rooms, were immaculately clean and beautifully decorated...almost serene, like a spa environment. After a few minutes, Dr. Yamamoto came to the waiting room in person, conversed with my friend in perfect Japanese, and helped her with the necessary paperwork (which was all in English). He then showed her to one of the exam rooms, and my son & I were free to roam for about an hour. While we waited, we had a great time: enjoying the lovely view from the waiting room; walking around outside & eating our snack by the fountains; and riding up & down the escalators facing Kalakaua Avenue...about a dozen times, lol! (Keep in mind, my son is 18 months old.) When all was said & done, my friend was extremely happy with the caring & attentive service she received here...and it was great that she was able to pay for her visit all in cash (about $200, no dental insurance). Although I didn't experience their dental work firsthand, my friend was very happy with every aspect of her treatment here, and said that she would recommend Dr. Yamamoto to anyone, in a heartbeat. Their "tandem appointment" is confusing and overall really time consuming if you want x-ray and cleaning (which in my world is a regular check-up). They schedule the X-ray on top of the hour and your cleaning on the NEXT top of the hour. YOU WAIT IN BETWEEN. Normally at other dental offices when they bring you back in the room, they will X-Ray (which is usually 5-10 minutes) then cleaning and finally consultation with the dentist. NOT HERE!! EVERYONE that checked in AFTER US WERE SEEN AND LEFT WHILE WE WAITED. Appointment for my son at 3pm for X-ray and cleaning AKA regular 6 month checkup. Checked in at 2:55pm (we submitted paperwork and insurance beforehand) X-ray tech took him in 3:05-3:15 Waited in lobby from 3:15-4:05. We waited 50 minutes after his X-ray for the hygienist to bring him back for cleaning. 15, 20 or maybe 30 minutes with other offices but 50 minutes is just unacceptable. There was nothing special about this office that would have us coming back for a second visit. read more

Many thanks to Dr. Dennis Nagata and his professional staff! My husband had snoring issues and wasn't comfortable with using the Cpap machine. Our friend told us about the oral appliance that Dr. Nagata provided to help another friend use when she travels. After the initial consultation and treatment recommended by Dr. Nagata, my husband decided to try it. It's been one month since he got the oral application and it is amazing! The very first night my husband used the oral appliance he slept well and didn't snore once! Since then, no matter how tired my hubby is the oral appliance prevents him from snoring. I am a difficult patient, rather apprehensive in a dental office, a senior citizen and very difficult to get an anesthetic block on. I needed an emergency tooth extraction and Dr. Tran was nothing short of a blessing in treating me with incredible patience and understanding. I can recommend her without reservation. Dr. chow and the rest of the landmark team Is amazing. It's been years since I've been to a dentist... I know, gross right? And I'm very picky when it comes to picking doctors and especially dentist because I want a dentist that will make me feel comfortable. So yes, I'm particular and yes I'll research to find someone who can deliver my expectations. I'm going to start off with the actual design of the place. This office is located in the beginning of Waikiki, 3rd floor with free valet service to landmark patients. Please remember that before parking your own car! Inside of the office is just beautiful. Very modern and clean. You're greeted with friendly smiles and warm hellos. I really loved how to inside of this office looked. If ever you get a chance to see what I'm talking about, you'll see that I'm right. Now I'll get to the service. I told the person doing my X-ray that this is my first time in 5 years since I've seen a dentist, and he understood. He told me that it's okay and that they are here to fix that. He really sounded genuine and very knowledgeable in his job. He was very patient with me while doing the X-rays since I have a really bad gag reflex. He did his best to make me feel comfortable and really.. he did. Dr. Chow was amazing! He really took his time and Gave me a plan to what he thinks is best for my teeth. Unfortunately there Is a lot of work that needs to be done... but we will reach perfect oral health one step at a time. Sadly, I had to get fillings... and this is just 2 out of 6. How embarrassing, but it's the truth. Anyways, Dr. Chow really takes his time, he is personable and really friendly. I couldn't be any happier! Oh and my hygienist is the BEST! Ashley is so easy to get along with. Whatever question I have, she knows the answer. She made my gums brand new! She gave me recommendations, and really educated me on how to take care of my teeth. I have been with Landmark Dental Group since before they moved to the Landmark building in Waikiki. I just finished my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Chow and I couldn't be happier. Dr. Chow and his staff are (still) great, and they offered to make the retainers at their office rather than having them made by Invisalign. I love having this option due to the fact that if I ever lose/break my retainers, I can call Dr. Chow's office and order a new set right away. Everyone here from the receptionists to the hygienists and dental assistants they're all personable yet professional. I've been a patient with Dr. Chow for a few years now and my teeth couldn't be be happier. Dr. Chow has been able to address all the different dental issues I've had over the years and I've never had a problem with his work. What I appreciate the most is that he's able to explain what the problem is and he provides you with options regarding course of treatment. My recent visit, I went in for a cleaning (Thanks Erica!) but they found that I had a missing filling so I would need to have that done. Instead of scheduling a return visit, Dr. Chow asked if I could wait around if I didn't have any plans so that he could do it in between patients. We have been patients of Dr. Nagata for several years now and are very happy with his professionalism and the work that he has done for our family. What a great team. I was deathly afraid of the dentist as well as the cost. My front crown fell out and Dr. Chow reinstalled it to save me money for now even though there wasn't too much original tooth left. I really enjoyed his professionalism as well as that of his staff. I began coming in regularly to gradually get my teeth up to par. He threw in some freebies to help out. I recently ended up losing my front crown and he alleviated some of the cost of my new front bridge by throwing in a free extraction and filling. That's a pretty big deal! He worked with me and my insurance to get the price down to $1700 which he cut in half for me into 2 payments. I was so happy to finally get that fixed after 15 years of problems and pain. They did an excellent job with the impression and fit. It looks and feels absolutely remarkable! I am now a regular here. Yes Dr. Chow could be pushy if you don't care of what he worked so hard on, so make sure you do what you're supposed to. He works very hard. You'll notice that he is in 3 places at once and does an excellent job and delegates his highly talented staff perfectly according to their strong suit. I look forward to my visits. This is the best dentistry I have ever been to. Very clean professionally set up office with a nice view from the second story above the fancy water fountain. The desk is very accommodating to all your needs and will set you up with the perfect doctor for you depending on your condition. The equipment they use is all state of the art. I had a root canal, broken fillings, and a cracked crown that needed replacement. My doctor was Kentaro Matsumoto. He offered me a blanket and made me feel very comfortable about having the procedure. He also made sure I didn't feel any pain at all and was constantly checking up on me.
