He's not about squeezing in every human body into a can of sardines, instead he will screen you first, see what you need, and if he connects with your chi... If you're lucky enough to be a patient of Dr. Ueda you'll find a man who speaks softly, but has lived three lifetimes. I find it refreshing to have a dentist that shares my stories of travels around the world and life itself. If you knew about Dr. Ueda's journey and how he's here you'd probably admire him three-fold. He's a survivor, like I am, but it's best to live and not dwell. 10-stars for talk on Lady Sumo to Om living. I'm currently in America to take care of all my medical and dental needs and why not polish my grill before I fly back to Japan on my continued travels. Dr. Ueda is located in the Public Radio building (2nd floor) just across of Don Quijote on Kaheka in Honolulu. Parking is free in his private stalls "Dr. Ueda Parking" just up the ramp. Entering the building you'll probably notice a vending machine and a hallway that reminds one of Intermediate school bungalows. Narrow and eerie lol. Just follow the signs to his office and before entering you'll see an original Yoshitoshi Mori (森 義利) framed woodblock print. As a historian and art major I noticed the bold artwork. Upon entering you'll probably be greeted by Dr. Ueda himself. As of this writing he has no receptionist or employees. Dr. Ueda does it all. Rest assured if you have insurance he'll explain everything before you sign off. And if you're curious Dr. speaks English and fluent in Japanese and French! I came in for X-rays, general cleaning, and polishing! Long overdue as my last "teeth maintenance" was at UCSF in San Francisco early in 2022. The good news is that my grill is structurally sound... so yes, I can mogu mogu and enjoy all the good foods that life has to offer - just avoid too much sugar and brush or rinse after all meals! It's nice to be reminded by a respected dentist how it's important to flush out what goes in! As I shake my head in agreement like Eric the kid! :D It's rare to find a dentist that will explain everything he's doing and not be in such a rush with "next!" You get that Dr. Ueda truly cares about your well being. I truly enjoyed chatting, or as locals say "talking story", with a man of the world. We even watched an episode of Lady Sumo on NHK-TV and discussed it lol. You just don't have dental encounters like this anymore... a positive experience that left me smiling 'til next time! So I booked my appointment and have continued to see him regularly as my dentist. Dr Sato is very efficient, friendly, and gentle. I am able to get most of my work done on my lunch break and I don't get nervous or scared when coming here. That ease of mind really does help in the long run to make sure I keep up with my dental checks and schedule an appointment when the random holiday cookie pops out a filling. The front desk staff are super friendly and will work with you in understanding what your insurance will cover and what you will be paying out of pocket. I have been going to Dr. Okimoto for years and have never been disappointed by their service…read more He and his staff are super friendly and they feel like an extension of family. Dr. spends time talking to us about how we're doing and what's new in our lives. It's nice that they care. He is thorough and answers any questions that I may have. He also gave me a thorough and detailed evaluation of my teeth. He also recommended that I pull out one of my wisdom teeth which was also in the top left corner of my mouth. It was my first time removing a wisdom tooth so I wasn't sure what to expect. He applied the anesthetic and pulled it out nice and easy, with no discomfort at all. It has healed nicely and it feels so much better now that food doesn't get stuck in there and I don't have to worry about cleaning such a hard to reach area. It was an overall excellent experience and Dr. Austin Choy did an amazing job.I will be returning here for all my future dental needs and procedures. Side note: If you're looking for an awesome teeth cleaning, the Dental Hygienist Brianna Goto excels at her profession. I blame myself in part for not asking enough of the right questions up front. If I had, I would have known he was not the right doctor for me. Unfortunately, I experienced judgment over the course of treatment, then disrespectful and ugly behavior to get rid of me. It appears to me that Dr. Choy preference is for simple, straightforward, easy patients that don't have any kinds of issues and that's not me. Which he knew. I was extremely upfront about my health issues, medications that affect my teeth, and the fact I genetically have bad teeth on Day1. He had every opportunity upfront to say we were not matched, but he didn't. I understand the Why he didn't want me to continue but, he handled the How very poorly. It was so bad, it's why I need to write this review. Some doctors are passionate about caring for and helping others. That is not what I experienced and have little confidence that you would experience it either. For others it's just a means to an end and those doctors want as easy a life as possible. Ask the right questions so you can decide for yourself which one you want treating you.

I was there yesterday for a cleaning before I dashed off to a fancy gala event. Since I last wrote my review, I must admit I have strayed to another dental location out of sheer laziness and not wanting to drive to town...big mistake! I don't want to bad-mouth (get it, 'mouth'?) the other dental office but let's just say I wasn't very impressed. Once you've had a really stellar experience it's hard to expect anything less. Should I break it down for you? Honesty: my mouth had fallen prey to a dishonest dentist who ruined my teeth promising and assuring me that capping all my teeth with crowns was a good idea, even if my teeth did not need crowns. Ever since he messed me up, I've needed gum surgery and root canals. Dr. Emory Young is the total opposite, he won't try to sell you things you don't need. You'd think dentists are supposed to be honest but watch out for the ones who tell you your whole mouth should be crowned. Communication: Dr. Emory is great at it. He will explain everything in plain English. Maybe he'll tell you about his surfing experiences or his smart talented daughter too. He's easy to talk to and makes you feel at ease. You can ask him anything and he'll give you a straight answer. He always makes me laugh, and that is hard for a dentist to do (childhood trauma with dentists...gives me nightmares) Awesome cleanings: I'm not just saying Suzie is the best on the island because I've been going to her for years, but because I've had my teeth cleaned by other (ahem) dental offices that don't really do such a thorough job. I've had one hygienist tell me "wow your teeth are so clean" and proceeds to rush through the cleaning because, apparently my teeth are so clean they don't need deep cleaning? She also told my husband the exact same thing so I'm thinking she tells everyone the same thing? Clean or not, you'll get your money's worth with Suzie. She will take the time to examine your face from the outside in. She actually found an abcess on my gum on a routine cleaning that was painless but turned out to be a huge deal. If it wasn't for Suzie I may have lost the tooth. Ease in making appointments: Suzie has Saturday cleanings too! She is on top of everything, has the best memory and exudes the kindest energy. I don't know how she takes care of the whole office so effortlessly! Every single hygienist and dental assistant is very friendly and hardworking. The hygienists impress me with their knowledge and help me feel comfortable. Dr. Taira is an excellent dentist. I tend to have a lot of questions, and she is always happy to answer. She's taken care of some ugly cavities for me. Although Dr. Taira is efficient and quick, she pays great attention to detail.
