Kahaani has beautiful decor and a higher end feel. That small quaint vibe gives it a great atmosphere to walk into. The service is kind and attentive. One thing to note, is that the spice is taken seriously. So err on the side of caution even if you like spicy! However, the butter chicken and tikka masala felt addicting to eat. We went for lunch at about 1:00 p.m. on a Saturday. We were the only customers, and after eating there, I can see why. The food was very good, it was not exceptional, it was average Indian food, which is very good. Compared to other Indian restaurants it was very expensive. One piece of naan was $8. So you are not getting anything more for spending more money. The ambiance was fine except that the put a piece of really bright white led rope lighting under chair rail molding. This was just at eye level and very bright. However, the reason I will not be returning is because when I gave my credit card to pay, they told me I would be charged 3% more for using a card. I don't care for unexpected fees especially when there was no way to know ahead of time. It was bait and switch and completely off putting and was a bad feeling experience. We ordered from this relatively new place which is just a ten minute walk away. So I was glad it was really good. We got cheese and garlic naan, butter chicken and kadhai chicken. The food was well packaged, warm and decent servings. I loved the spiciness level of the kadhai chicken (medium) and everything was good. I could eat the garlic naan all night. I hadn't eaten a lot of Indian food before I deployed to Africa where we had it often. So I am glad there is a good place so close to home. You can tell the owner has put a lot of thought and intention into this restaurant, and there's real potential here but it's not quite fully there yet. The food reflects that as flavors are there, but a few dishes arrived colder than expected, which made them feel less cohesive, possibly due to sauces being prepared ahead of time and not fully brought back to temperature. That said, the presentation is immaculate and clearly a point of pride. Service could use some refinement. There were moments of confusion among staff, and notably, our server consistently addressed only the men at the table even though I was the one ordering, which took away from the overall experience. Pricing felt a bit high for where things currently stand, though that's not uncommon for Indian restaurants (speaking as owning one in the past). This was my first time eating Indian Food. A close family member, who is very familiar with the cuisine, wanted to introduce the food to me. This restaurant is located in what looks like a family neighborhood. There is plenty of street parking. Kahaani looks like a house. You enter and there are about 8 tables, a bar and the kitchen is towards the back. There is a staircase which might lead to more tables? The staff were friendly and the place was clean. They serve pitchers of water. I felt the water tasted a bit off. We ordered a Vegetable Samosa, the Chicken Chettinad, the Puntikura Goat and the Rajwada Laal Mass Lamb. Each dish was served with rice, which they replenished for free. The food was spicy and flavorful. The Lamb and the Goat both had bones on the meat. While the portions were on the smaller side for my appetite, the sauces with the rice does fill you up. My table guests all had different favorites but for me the Lamb was the standout. The prices were moderate but the feel was that everything was cooked fresh to order. This was a very nice dining experience. read more

Of course the food was delicious. The staff was very conscious and accommodating with the spice level as it refers to the American palate. The food did take a while, but they were very busy and doing multiple takeout orders. This was a plus for me, it tells me that my food was being made to order and that it was very popular. This is a new Indian restaurant that we were eager to try. We made a reservation by phone earlier this week for Friday evening. Today we called to ask it was a BYOB restaurant. We were told that the restaurant was closed until next Wednesday due to a kitchen problem (something to do with gas.) If we hadn't called to inquire about the BYOB policy, we would have arrived there Friday night to discover that it was closed!! Though they had our contact info, no one called to inform us. I doubt we'll give them another chance. This is unacceptable customer relations. read more

We really enjoyed this new BYOB spot on Market Street. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and terrific food. My wife and I shared the palak paneer and the chicken biryani, both quite good. In fact, writing the review makes me hungry to go back. read more
