A charming counter displaying delicious baked goods
Nathaniel S.

A charming little place with lovingly prepared, affordable food, with a friendly atmosphere provided by the staff as well as many local regulars who all make you feel welcome. The food is by no means five star cuisine, however isall the same very satisfying while providing a home experience though both the food and the atmosphere. My favorite place to visit when I visit Odon IN.

The buffet is the obvious choice, though. The buffet itself is extraordinary. On Friday, you can usually have frog legs, and that is a treat. There is also a vry good shrimp and rice dish usaully there, and fried fish, along with other entrees. I've usually seen about four different vegetable sides, but the green beans have meat in them, so if you want meaty veggies, you're in luck. There is usually corn and some greens. There are plenty of sides to choose from. The salad bar is very good. A lot of options. Caesar dressing isn't one of the four or five available ones in the containers, but they do have Caesar and other dressings in packets. The desserts are not that great, although they do have some very good soft serve ice cream. The blueberry pie is that mush in a packet. Here is where you can tell it isn't really authentic Amish, but it is still a very good restaurant. The service is good and friendly. They dress Amish, but it is more Americanized than real Amish places. I do recommend it. It's pretty expensive, but worth the price. You are treated to a good view of the lake, if they let you have a window table, but those are often taken. The other tables sit out in the open, and I never feel comfortable that way, but if that doesn't bother you, you'll be fine. There are expensive store items to buy, too. I never tried them. things like soap, candles, the usual restaurant store items. It's almost always very crowded. Often, there is a long line. The food is very good, and it is a popular place. Restrooms are dirty and sometimes out of order, which is why I don't give this five stars. I hope that they address this some day.

The views of the West Boggs Lake were nice. Water was very green but beautiful. Food was delicious Fried Chicken, Roast Beef, Tenderloin, Mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, stuffing, noodles, carrots, homemade bread/rolls and if you're into it they had chicken livers/ gizzards. The salad bar had a solid fresh selection of items. The desserts were tasty as well. Ice Cream and Pies. We got Pecan and Peanut Butter pies and they were fantastic. So good we forgot to take pictures. A nice place to stop by if you're passing through or visiting the Boggs camp ground. Could have been a 5 with more options but that is really the only drawback. Go visit for yourself!!

While this one does offer a buffet option, they don't have enough options to really make that worthwhile. The other place is the buffet place. This is the cafeteria place, but it's not as expensive, and the food is just as good. And you get plenty of it in the meal. I'm a big eater, and I'm always satisfied by the plate lunch. Outside of the building, you can see the farm where a lot of their food is grown. I've been here probably a dozen times, and each time was a treat, with fresh food from their local gardens and farms. Unlike Stoll's, they grow their own foods. Like I said, it's authentic Amish. The cafeteria style tables make for a more pleasant and comfortable atmosphere than Stoll's. Surprisingly, the restrooms here are cleaner than Stoll's, where the restrooms are often out of order. This is a much more pleasant experience at Schwartz's. The servers are very nice and helpful. There is a small area for their Amish store of honey, fresh vegetables, and other delights. Where they excel is their pies. While their competitor uses cheap packet pies, Schwartz's has homemade pies, all fresh. I highly recommend the blueberry cream pie and the peach pie. A nice view of the rural surroundings, even if it is on the highway, but so is the other Amish place. The atmosphere is very nice. There is a lot of good feeling in the air. Sometimes, there are folk style musicians in the adjoining room, if you go for that. This is a customer friendly place, and they care about what they do and about the people they serve.

Gasthof Amish Village, Montgomery IL. June, 2026. My husband and I were traveling along US-50, and…read morewe reached this buffet-style restaurant for lunch. Having grown up in PA, I'm very familiar with "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish and Mennonite cooking. I would characterize this style of cooking as hearty, simple, and high-calorie comfort food. The buffet included three main sections. The first included two soups (chicken noodle and vegetable), salad bar items, prepared salads (such as coleslaws and broccoli salad), and some gelatin molds. The second station was hot items (meats, gravies, vegetables). Finally, there was a dessert station with an assortment of cobblers, cookies, cupcakes, soft serve ice cream, and more. I noticed other patrons with homemade white bread but I somehow missed it on the buffet. Overall, there was a good selection of items available. I most enjoyed the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, and berry and peach cobblers. The biggest misses were the chicken noodle soup (which didn't seem to contain any chicken pieces, was only lukewarm, and very over-salted) and the chocolate ice cream, which was runny. My husband and I found the food to be generally bland. (Granted, Amish food isn't known to have a spicy profile). In addition, they didn't offer some foods and desserts that I generally associate with Amish cooking -- pickled eggs, Harvard beets, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples. shoo fly pie, apple dumplings, fry pies, Whoopie pies, etc. (Admittedly, the traditional Amish foods in the Midwest may differ from those in Pennsylvania). The restaurant had a lot of seating and was clean, and had a cute gift shop that you passed through on the way in and out. Our server was sufficiently attentive. Parking was free and plentiful. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet was $16.99 per person; drinks not included.

Cakes and Coffee Cafe are housed in an old bank on Main Street in downtown Petersburg, Indiana. The dining room is large with a counter and about a dozen Cafe tables. The place is not fancy decorated with vintage baseball memorabilia and toys. The walls are adorned with antique and vintage photos of the area. We were allowed to pick any table but encouraged to take a private room which was a converted bank office complete with original safe. Cinnamon rolls are their specialty so we ordered one ($1.99) with a side of sausage. I ordered 2 eggs with bacon and rye toast ($4.99). The menu offered a variety of coffee options which we enjoyed until our food arrived. When the food arrived, it was clear that the rye toast bread was homemade and the sausage was fresh. Our waitress said the bread is made by local Amish and the sausage comes from a butcher in Evansville. The ingredients were indeed fresh and tasted wonderful. The cinnamon roll was definitely made from scratch and sinfully good, perhaps addictive. I only wish the preserves had been homemade. The service was friendly and she kept our coffee cups full. They had a case full of delicious looking cakes and pies.

It seems like it's been untouched for decades. It may be confusing for some because on Apple Maps it comes up as Cakes and Coffee Cafe (as it does here on Yelp), but the menu says "Randy's Americana Cafe" - not sure if the name changed at some point. Regardless, it was a cool old building with this really long high top lunch counter out in the middle with traditional table seating all around. I came in on a Monday and there was a steady trickle of mostly seniors coming in. I ordered a BLT and it was great- and came out in less than 5 minutes. They had a nice selection of cakes and pies. But the real charm of this place is all the obscure Americana stuff on the walls AND the old vault in the back, which is essentially a guest book. Literally thousands of people have signed the walls in the vault. They even have a step ladder because the walls are so full that the ceiling and mechanicals are about the only available real estate. Super fun blast from the past place.
