I've never had dinner here before this was the first time for dinner I've had lunch here on occasion. I would've given a five star review but the service was very slow and 2 stars at best. It could have been more prompt and efficient. We waited for seven minutes before our first acknowledgement by our waiter/ server. It was just my girlfriend and myself. Once the waiter finally came to the table and took our order a lot time had lapse. Never once did come to ask how the food was once our main entrée was delivered. He asked how everything was when he presented the check. During the wait for him to return to the table to take our dessert order, there was a bus boy at the nearby table clearing another table. I asked him to take a plate that was left on our table and he said that the servers job I don't do that. I told him no you need to take it now and he gave me a rather rude look and stare. The intervals from which the waiter came back to the table was very long. It would've helped if the chairs had been padded but they were hard with like school room chairs. The dining room was decorated very nice and the decor and artwork is very tasteful. Music was a little loud. The food was exceptionally good from the appetizer to the main course to our dessert. It was exceptional. That is five stars ONLY - The service really was a lot to be desired for a good tip and review. read more

This review is for lunch only! A friend and I decided on Moonlight Cafe for a Friday luncheon. We went around 1pm and were 1 of 3 tables in the place. The ambiance is quaint and dark. Great for a romantic dinner place! We were greated and seated immediately. Their lunch menu offers some great choices in sandwiches and our server gave us 3 or 4 soup options. We both decided on the Ruben, one with a side of French Onion soup, and one with onion rings. I can never pass up that soup and consider myself a bit of a snob! I wasn't disappointed!! The soup was freaking awesome! Great broth flavor, just enough onions, and the bread wasnt too soggy, still with a little crunch. The highlight was that sandwich!! Excellent Ruben and probably the only local place I'll get one from now on! Paired with a nice glass of cab, that lunch seriously hit the spot! I enjoyed my food when I had lunch here, but like some of the other reviewers, I found there could be a lot of improvement in the service. I ordered the Cafe Chicken Sandwich with a tasty grilled chicken breast (still juicy and well seasoned) and selected a side salad to go with it. The salad was colorful and I got a house-made balsamic vinaigrette which was really delicious! The sandwich came with choice of cheese, lettuce, red onion, and tomato. Maybe just a hint of chewiness, but overall, quite good. The problem with service was one that as the only lunch time diner, I thought I would be welcomed to the restaurant or at least greeted and attended. But the man who was running the front was very quiet. He would often disappear into the back (he was managing a "to go" order as well), and my meal took about a half an hour to come out. He also didn't ask if I wanted the salad before the sandwich, so I received them at the same time. (That's basic restaurant 101 to ask.) I did get my water refilled and the check was promptly processed once I let him know I was finished, but it was odd sitting alone in this long, cold (not well heated) room. I understand that with low attendance during lunch, it is hard to hire staff, but more effort on being welcoming improves the customer's experience and can lead to good word of mouth. I will round up my review since my complaints can easily be fixed. I just hope that the business chooses to be more friendly so that visitors want to return. This place such a great surprise! Yelp did us right this time.my husband got the stuffed pork chop and I was honestly jealous after I tried it. The way the strawberry sauce compliments the Gouda cheese is amazing I'm ordering that next time. I had the Atlantic salmon which was very good and cooked perfect. These guys will make you a dinner that you will not soon forget! My husband and I came to visit Lawrenceville in February 2020 and had to stop here for dinner. I ordered the lemon chicken with smashed red potatoes and my husband had the shrimp and scallop alfredo. We devoured both of our dishes because everything tasted so good! The seasonings were all spot on, and everything was so rich and flavorful and cooked extremely well. We topped it off with one of the best creme brulees that I have ever enjoyed. We did have to wait quite a while for our dishes to come out. They had a full house the night we were there, but everything tasted so good that it was well worth it! We also had the spinach artichoke dip as an appetizer which was also fantastic. I really like that these guys know how to cook and season everything well. Service was poor. Food was average. We were in there for lunch and it took 1 hour. We were the only 2 people in the place. We were sat down by the host and then it was at least 5 min before we were asked what we wanted to drink as he walked by. Took our order and had his hand out waiting for the menu the entire time while we were asking questions about the menu options. Food came and it was okay, tenderloin was massive but breading just didn't have much flavor. Grilled Chicken sandwich was very standard, Caesar salad and French fries were good. Ambiance was just what we needed. It is a great place for a date night, which is why we went. You can sip wine or throw back a beer. It is acceptable to wear jeans or to go dressed up. Chef does a great job with the food too. I got the stuffed blackened salmon and my husband had swordfish. Both were yummy. I took half of it home. Big portions. It's quiet, soft music, elegant, and low lighting. We skipped dessert but they looked really yummy when they were delivered to other patrons. Prices are competitive. It's probably a $$ to $$$ place. Depends if you get wine and dessert. Probably not a family restaurant. But meet a friend, have a date, or take you parents out for their anniversary. read more

Ate here last night for dinner, and ordered the chicken piccata. It came with two sides. I chose the green beans and the roasted red potatoes. The price of this dish is $17.99. The two times I've eaten here previously, I ordered either salmon or steak and the food was good. Last night, was a different story though. Service was very good. As usual, the wine and beer selections are quite limited for a cafe that charges such high prices, and the flavor profiles of some of their dishes are surprisingly off-putting to someone like me who enjoys many different cuisines. I thought to myself when I ordered, "how could anyone screw up chicken piccata?" Well, the entire plate was swimming in grease. The chicken didn't appear to be breaded, had no lemon taste, and came with raisins? The green beans were over cooked and tasteless, and the roasted red potatoes lacked any crispiness. The waitress was kind enough to replace the green beans with asparagus and it was very good. Not sure I will go back and give them another chance unless it would be for lunch. read more

A hidden gem. Had dinner there after the place we planned to go to was closed for vacation. Almost didn't go because this website (Yelp) stated that they didn't accept credit cards. Fortunately we called and they said that they do accept credit cards. We're from Cincinnati and were in Washington visiting my sister and her husband. So happy we went there. The four of us all had delicious dinners. Everything was high quality and really fresh. The owner Issac was short staffed and doing all of the table service. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their dishes, along with what changes they can and can't do to their dishes. The atmosphere is warm and intimate- the restaurant is on the smaller side but that's not a bad thing. We have friends who have raved about this restaurant so my husband and I were excited to try it with them. The food was piping hot and had good flavor, the salad was ice cold and they make some of the dressings homemade- highly recommend the homemade dressings. Not sure if our friends had just overhyped us about the restaurant or maybe being from a larger metro area we expected more, because while the food was good and executed well along with the nice, knowledgeable staff, it was just a good experience. Nothing that makes us want to rush right back, but if we are in the area and meeting friends then we would certainly keep Moonlight Cafe as an option to eat at with the group. read more

I wanted so much to love this place. In a town where it seems like 90% of the restaurants are pizza joints, it's refreshing to see someone try to stand out. But trying and succeeding are two different things. Where to start? With such a long list of steaks on the menu, and prices in the $20+ range, I would not expect paper napkins. Salads seem to be iceberg lettuce. Would be nice to have a nice spinach salad. I had a seafood platter. it tasted fine, but I could swear I had tasted the same items in the Sam's club frozen food section. Bottom line... In a town with limited choices, it stands out. If i am from Vincennes I would give it 4 stars. But my bar is a little higher. It seems like it's a good first try, but they need to make same changes to improve. With the prices of the entries, I would expect all the amenities. Instead you get diner quality at upper crust prices. read more

This restaurant is delightful; an establishment like no other in Vincennes. All three (six including my wife's) courses were absolutely delicious. Between the two of us we had the bruschetta, smoked paprika almond crusted tilapia, chicken piccata, green beans, asparagus, red roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes, chocolate lava cake with homemade ice cream, crème brulée, a glass of Riesling, and a glass of Moscato. My husband, myself and my daughter and son in law always choose this restaurant as our Christmas gifts for each other as we don't really need anything as far as gifts go! We all absolutely love eating here and will always come back and pray it never closes ! My husband and I have eaten steaks about everywhere and none compare to their filet mignon! We stay there for a few minutes, then was told by the waiter, very loudly, I'm the middle of the dining room, that they were closing soon and that WE were rude for coming in and to leave. I asked the waiter to please turn off the blinking OPEN sign then. How rude was HE?! What an unprofessional small boy. He needs to be taught how to speak to other people with respect, let alone repeat customers. The food is way over priced anyway and takes too long. You almost forget your hungry. Long story, long, do not waste your money at this shitty hole in the wall that thinks it's not just that. A hole I'm the wall with staff that is unrightfully snobby. If you don't want to serve customers turn off your OPEN sign. Post your hours. Pretty simple, but Cafe Moonlight is not all that intelligent, but they sure are dicks. It's our 7th anniversary also. The waiter was very friendly and helpful with his suggestions. Most importantly, the food was fantastic! We started with the bruschetta appetizer - probably the best I have ever had. For dinner I had the stuffed pork per the waiter's suggestion. I was intrigued when I saw it on the menu, but thought perhaps it was a little too different. He assured me I would not be disappointed. He was absolutely right - it was delicious! Dessert was fabulous. Everything was so good, I went back for lunch the next day - and was again very pleased.
