"A tease, will never be satisfied.."
Usual night of Thursday bar hopping, visited 6 venues. Being a lover of the Slavic kind I held high expectations for this bar based in Adelaide's notorious Peel st.
My partner actually asked for a table for two prior to even stepping foot in the bar, we were told the dreaded words of the kitchen was close. Not happy Jan. To another bar we went, were we tried to enjoy some half decent tapas and bitter cocktails. Enough was enough. I could not contain myself any longer, I needed meat, good meat.
I marched down to Kaffana, walked in and was instantly greeted by a beautiful woman. I spoke a few words in mixed English and Serbian along the lines of "Please!" could we try some meat! She walked off.
We sat down were I met my kind of bartender, awesome hair-do with a personality to match. We ordered the 'Serberry' and a Expresso Martini were both the waitress and bartender proceeded to do a happy dance! I can only vouch for the 'Serberry' as that was my drink.. of choice, brilliant choice I might add! Amazing, tasteful, uplifting.
As we sat down and enjoyed some conversation, out of the blue a waitress comes walking in wielding a plate with two lonesome Chevapchichi's. We devoured them. I was close to licking the plate. Needless to say I was very impressed. The beautiful lady walked back through smiled and let me know she doesn't usually do that for anyone (I think she does, shes too nice!) I thanked her, but not for bringing out the food but for the hospitality. That is the service I crave. But wait it gets better.
The bartender starts to explain to me what is the drink 'Slivovitz' the equivalent of a 'Grappa' etc. I had one whiff and I can swear I smelt a hint of banana. Instant curiosity peaked which was relieved when the bartender poured us a shot mixed with another flavored drink. THE KAFFANA BANANA! Words can not describe the exact taste let alone the feeling, but damn it was good. On the house, off the menu. Once again instantly impressed.
Every bar I had been to that night, they lacked that friendly service, in fact almost family like where you can get personal and laugh. In fact Mama walked past and left with a big smile whilst kissing everyone religiously! It was natural, comfortable and believe it or not you could actually enjoy yourself and let your hair down.
A lot of bars definitely miss this aspect whilst being to busy trying to keep the customer and boss happy. First step, find happiness in yourself, next enjoy it with your customers. Kaffana oozed that to a tee, the staff were brilliant and delightful. The feels was beautiful added with the comfortable decor. I had a quick squiz, were I envisioned hosting a large group and having a meat off sitting in that room over there. Though the bar is where I spent majority of my time, not too classy and down to earth. One where you can gather around as the bartender does his thing!
All in all, I call it it a tease because it has left me craving that experience again and I will not be satisfied until I go back there and try everything.
Kaffana is the place to be if your in search of that enjoyable factor, however quite frankly I admit, I haven't tried the full menu YET but 'personally' I would put a bet on it, that that meat mixed with those tastes will be orgasmic.
