Back in the day you had to send away (off island) for quality calligraphy for invitations, signs…read moreand such. Today you don't have to look any further than Hawaii Calligraphy. I wish I had known about Kelsy (owner/calligrapher) Darling and her magnificent talent and skills when we were planning for our big day. Contacting Kelsey is quite easy - either email or voicemail. She has an etsy shop in which you can purchase already made products and you can also commission her to do custom work. I had requested a quote for a specific product and she was able to give me the amount and time it will be ready quite quickly. As a note, she does weddings, parties, signs and just about anything you can think of to write on (wood, leaves, paper, planks). Unfortunately, I never did follow through with the purchase because it was about the same time that Hawaii Calligraphy started offering calligraphy classes in her Chinatown workshop. I was inspired to create my own "masterpiece" instead of commissioning her to do the work. Kelsey's calligraphy workshop was thorough, precise and immaculately executed!! I walked away with a workbook, tons of vendor coupons/discounts, practice sheets and everything you need to start your calligraphy practice. Her overhead projection was perfect!! Everyone in class could see what she was writing and no one was straining their necks or eyes to see her examples. I cannot boast enough about her calligraphy class (beginner)! She provided food and drinks (spirited and not) as well as our own personalized work apron. From inception to execution this gal knows her stuff and she is super friendly. Reality check: who am I kidding? I barely write in cursive yet alone calligraphy with all the fancy schmancy flourishes and swag! I need to practice a lot (a waaayyyy lot more) before I'm satisfied with the actual work. It takes years of practice to create swoon-worthy, beautiful letters and words, but until that "happens" I know that I have Kelsey/Hawaii Calligraphy to call on in case I need something written all fancy and such.

After seeing some of her incredible pieces on Insta & Etsy, I reached out to her about our place cards. Michelle shared a few different place card ideas that fit with our wedding vibes & it was hard to pick just one because they were all amazing. We went with clear, plexiglass hexagons that included our guests' names in gold calligraphy. Not only was Michelle extremely communicative, but she also went above & beyond by asking about ink color, sharing sketches with different font options, and recommending we include the last initial for duplicate guest names. As a bride with a million details running through her mind at any given moment, it was great to know Michelle was thinking through all the details of my place cards and I could focus on other things. The place cards turned out perfect and Michelle shipped them with so much love and care all the way from Hawaii (we live in San Diego, CA). Each place card was wrapped in protective, upcycled paper to make sure it arrived safely to our home, and later, the wedding venue. I highly recommend Michelle to any couple who is looking for an organized & creative artist that can make your wedding a truly unique experience. And I'm already dreaming up another opportunity to work with Michelle again!

It was such a bummer for that Yeti was my favorite because it was the right shade of Pink and a limited edition color. Because this business has a heart for their customers and actually CARES. And that's the exact reason on out of all the businesses out there, I chose specifically Juniper Calligraphy. Michelle has made my new Yeti really special to me and i will cherish it for the rest of my life. Thank you you so much.

So, the week before my wedding I reached out to them on Instagram. They messaged me back the next day & I was able to tell them what I was looking for. (BTW I got married in January, so it was not the summer wedding season.) I was able to order a round acrylic sign & custom Polaroid frame which both turned out beautifully in a short turnover time. Susan even sent me rendering of both pieces with different font combinations. This was super cool and helpful as a customer. They went above and beyond my expectations for contacting them at the very last minute. Again, keep in mind that these vendors are busy year-round so I definitely consider myself lucky to have had their services. I DO NOT recommend doing what I did and contacting them late. I'm just sharing my own personal wedding experience & what happened in my situation. In fact, I hear that they are starting to get booked for the summer weddings!

Picturesque specializes in laser cut outs so name cards, signages, cake toppers, ornaments, etc. You can choose either wood or acrylic and choice of fonts. I reached out to Susan for a super last minute bridal shower gift after perusing through her website. I chose a BRIDE and GROOM geometric place setting and a customized ornament with my friends names and wedding date. I had less than a week before the shower and she delivered - all neatly packaged, ready to go! She showed me the design before she cut them to make sure it was perfect. I loved my friend's gift so much that I had my own wedding cake topper made soon after! It blew my mind how great it looked. Dare I say I look forward to the cakes' decor more than the actual cake?! Shame on me. Ok yes, Picturesque was a tad pricier than Etsy but the turnaround time and speedy responses more than made up for the cost. Susan was meticulous and very easy to work with. Plus, you are supporting local! 10/10 will recommend Picturesque if you're looking to make a party uniquely yours.
