Our first visit was so enjoyable that my wife and I were really excited to return to this Mediterranean restaurant. We were greeted by a very friendly guy behind the counter, which reminded us of how friendly the staff was on our first visit. He was also patient and helpful, as I asked a lot of questions. My wife got the Gyros Plate, just like last time. I opted for the Chicken Koobideh. I'm not sure why, since I like the Gyro so much. Maybe it was that the Koobideh was promoted as their most popular item. After ordering, we sat down to wait for our meals. We waited, and waited, and waited some more. It took way too long to get our food, particularly considering ours was the only order they were working on. The food finally came, and there was plenty of it. I tried to remember to take a photo, but I was so hungry by this time that I forgot. Upon first bite, I realized I had made a mistake. My Chicken Koobideh was not bad, it just wasn't that good. It lacked flavor and was a little mushy. I have had Koobideh at other restaurants that had a better, firmer texture. I decided that the Tzatziki sauce on my wife's Gyro might be good on my Koobideh - maybe give it a little more flavor. So, I looked around to find the nice guy we ordered from. He was nowhere to be found. In fact, no employees were in the dining room, or evident in the kitchen, the entire time we were eating. No one checked up on us to see if we were enjoying our meals. This was very unfortunate, and I left disappointed. So, why the four stars? Because my wife's Gyro Plate was great. She enjoyed every bite, and I will definitely know what to order next time.

Just moved here from Thousand Oaks and very familiar with this cuisine. Granted, I don't think I ever pick places that have the potential of being sub par, but my overall feeling so far is the customer service just seems higher than average in (many places) in Orange County, and this was no exception - friendly and welcoming. Food was excellent quality and taste. I found the value to be decent. Got a 2 person platter. Kebabs were very tasty, fresh, rice was so fluffy, taboon (I think that is what it's called, like grilled pita) bread was yummy, chewy and lightly charred as they make it fresh. Comes with salad, and you are more than full. My big mouth and foodie self inquiring about things always leads me to buying more stuff. I wound up buying their house made toum (garlic spread) which was soooo tasty. It should be so good that your breath wards off vampires til the next day, and so it does. Thank you for your nice, kind service. I hope to be back soon to try their ash reshteh and types of rice pilaf. I would say to give them some time to make your food. The wait is not long at all, but mind you they are making everything fresh, and it's worth it.

We were surprised to learn of a place that was open so late in our area and decided to check it out. We arrived around 8:45 and ordered, took a number and found a table. So, people were generally nice. There was a manager (owner?) walking around to greet people and one of the two girls working the cash register was very friendly...the other was new-ish. Anyway, long story short, the food is GREAT. I got chicken + beef koobideh platter (chicken was slightly better) and hubby got the lamb tongue sandwich which he loved. We also shared a falafel platter. BIL ordered he thought was chicken but was given a steak kabab ??? Couldn't really tell as the meat was blackened but the texture was that of steak. Whatever it was, it was pretty tasty. We were given a ton of taftoon (flat bread) for our entrees. That being said, the food did take a LONG time. By the time we got out of there, it was 10:30pm. I mean, we're pretty patient people but were getting a little hungry when our food finally arrived. Except BIL's. His took another 15 minutes and when we inquired, we were told the chicken takes longer to cook??? So I want to say it was over an hour by the time we got all our food. Not sure if we'll be back - will likely stick to to-go orders but it was nice to know we have an option for late night eats that isn't a drive-thru. The place was inexplicably packed for 10pm on a Friday night, with a party of 20 people showing up for a birthday party. Check it out but make sure you have plenty of time.

Incredible food and service in an unassuming Lake Forest plaza. A must stop for me from now on every time I'm in town. Some of the best kashke badjeman I've ever had, and I eat this roasted eggplant dish at nearly every establishment I can find it. The fluffy bread and well-seasoned koobideh were absolutely delicious. Hospitality is a hallmark of the culture, and the staff here were just so welcoming and wonderful. The owner even came around to ask all the diners how everything was going, which I thought was a nice personal touch. See everyone again for some more delicious food when I'm back in SoCal.

$75 for this is unbelievable. I couldn't even enjoy my food bc I was in disbelief of the price. And the gentleman in the front was not welcoming or helpful. I didn't understand the menu too well and not once did he budge in to ask if I needed help. Yes, I could've looked at prices before but I thought it would be average just as other establishments.

Best Persian restaurant in OC! We've tried countless Persian restaurants in the area and have finally found the best one. Definitely worth the drive from San Diego where unfortunately it has been difficult to find quality Persian food as of late. The kabob is fresh and juicy. It's cooked perfectly with all the right spices and flavor. They make their bread in house and it's delicious. The kabob sandwhich is my go to, but I've also had the olivieh salad and gormeh sabzi, which were both amazing. The inside is nice and clean with plenty of seating. They are located in a big shopping center with lots of parking available. The GM Mike is very kind and welcoming. He remembered us even though it had been a few months since our first visit. We've already taken several friends here and everyone has been impressed with the quality of the food. They get extra points for staying open so late too.

The food here is absolutely amazing!! I started coming to this company when they were located in Irvine and named Hen House. I followed them once they moved to Lake Forest because I can't give it up. My friends and I love coming here for a late night bite. I highly recommend their tea as well!

Wow! I found this place by accident, after a really long day. I came in around 9pm, place is packed! I patiently waited, as is looked like one person taking orders, serving, and bussing. Got the falafel plate, side salad, hummus, and fresh baked taftoon bread. Absolutely delicious, the bread... sigh. Falafel was crunchy outside, and tender inside. Perfect. I even have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Ambiance was lively, I think it was a big family party, happy noise. Next time I'm in OC, I'm coming back. Need to try some more dishes.

Such an awesome find in the Laguna Hills area! About the same price as Luna Grill for their beef koobideh but you get twice the portion and tastes better. The naan is a must try with their garlic dip. Mike, who I believe is the owner, let us know that the garlic dip is dairy free. It is so good that I even put some on my beef. Mike was a great host. Very friendly and accommodating from the moment we ordered. He also introduced us to cardamom tea which I recommend as well. It is a nice palate cleanser and perfect for the cool weather. I am definitely coming back to try the other dishes on their menu.

First time at Kabob Express, very impressed. Whew. I saw the combo price I thought it was a bit on the high side in price When you get the bread it's. fresh baked and delicious. We ordered the #49 combo Beef and Chicken Koobideh came with Rice, Tomatoes and 2 round large (Pizza Size) Taftoon flour bread from Iran. The food was excellent, let me start with the quality was highest you would normally find at other restaurants. ***** stars on quality, seasoning was to perfection. ***** stars on seasoning and temperature of the food. Plating of the food was beautiful. Nothing was pre frozen all fresh. You can tell when chicken and beef are frozen. This was not***** stars on the taste. Enjoyed every bite. The customer service was excellent. Had the Persian Tea and even that was great! You take a small sugar cube place it in your mouth on the cheek and sip the tea. Amazing. Persian style! I'll leave a 4 stars instead of 5, so this business that I really believe it's great can grow. Their food and seasoning is very impressive, it comes with a lot of food in one plate, the pita bread is giant and also very good, they have very good homus too. Now the reason of my four stars is that the staff could be more nice and welcoming, they are not rude, but also not the most friendly, I'd say almost impatient, so if they just get more open to the idea of making their service as good as their food, they will for sure be super busy! The restaurant is kinda dark also. I honestly wish them the best, because I really believe their food should be more known, correcting some few details, I think they will have the recognition that their food deserves. read more

The food is really good, I ordered it twice and I found the flavor was amazing, the location is fantastic because there's so many shops and so many places where you can sit. Try to make sure you come on time because they are a little bit serious about their closing time and you don't want to be that person that comes 5 minutes before closing, trust me I've been that person before. I would probably suggest getting the beef koobideh. The rice was fantastic and the whole area was very very welcoming read more

Love this place! Have gotten takeout a handful of times over the past few years. I feel like many places close very early nowadays and for someone who works into the late afternoon/night, this place is a gem. The food is always good and still very warm by the time I get home. I have had the falafels and beef koobideh plate. The last time I went in, they gave me complimentary warm tea while I waited for my order. Super kind staff! read more

It is my first time here and wasn't easy to find. I walked in and was standing in front of the menu. The woman sever walked right past me and stood at the register. I saw a picture next to the "whole chicken" that had hummus and salad. I asked the server which dish that picture was. I informed her that I do not eat rice and bread. She said that the half chicken comes with salad and hummus. I said I'll have that. Then she said no it actually only comes with rice knowing I don't eat rice. She was so out of it she must have asked me about rice 3 different times. I then referred back to the picture and asked her what was in it. She refused to identify the items in the picture then squinted her eyes because she knew she wasn't being straightforward. She was very rude in her expression and the opposite of gracious. I had to leave because I was so uncomfortable. Please give this angry jealous petty joker a break from her job so you don't lose all of your customers. read more

My first time at this place left me with with feeling that what if the kabab sandwich I ordered was better. My kabab sandwich came with salad with olives and onions. The sandwich had more of the salad inside it than kabab. The kabab was bland and not seasoned, the sauce I think it was ranch and the bread was stale and flaking at every bite. My recommendation for the establishment to improeve is: 1. Serve fresh bread or flat bread is a better option. 2. Less of the same salad inside the sandwich with a better sauce 3. More Seasoning 4. Drop the side salad altogether and make it a bigger sandwich to provide value for the money. I paid $15 for the salad sandwich. I will rey this place again as I love kabab and I hope my next experience is a better one. read more

So much flavor. Items were different than expectations but in the best way. Lamb shank and green rice was excellent. Beef gyro sandwich was really like a traditional deli sandwich but really really good. Hummus was so tasty, garlic sauce was amazing. Will def come back read more

Oh yea, the food is so good. My first time there and the man helping was so enthusiastic and kind. A real passion for his restaurant and people. He asked what I liked and recommended combo 50. I usually don't like restaurant chicken but this was so juicy and delicious. The beef was also so yummy. The naan came with the meal and is huge. So good with butter. Would definitely come back even though I am not from the area. read more

My wife and I just stopped by today for the first time. The person at the register (I think the owner/manager) was very friendly and took a lot of time to help us understand the menu and make reservations. He took very good care of us and was very attentive. The portions are huge and the combos feed multiple people. Food was great and very fresh. We'll definitely come back again! read more

I ordered online and they charge a service fee to place an order online. That's fine, it is what it is. But when I went to pickup my order, the menu board for the same item I just paid $27 for was $18 on their menu board. They said they couldn't do anything about it and it is what it is. Zero customer service and no explanation for the difference in price. Never going back. read more

This place is a rip off. My wife was kind enough to pick me up lunch but when she said she spent almost $25 dollars, and for a LUNCH SPECIAL, I was expecting MUCH MORE than what was given. Essentially a salad with a packet of store bought dressing, about 3 cups of jasmine rice, and ONE beef skewer. That's it! Look at the photo, is this worth $25 for a pickup order to you?! read more

This is a gem. Food is delicious, portions are large and the prices are great. I have kids that are picky eaters and they loved the food. Top it off with fantastic service and you have a must repeat. So glad that this place opened up in the neighborhood. Happy eating. read more

The food is good, very flavorful....It would be a five star review if the gyro wrap was really a wrap. We ordered 3 and they were in ROLLS, which was way too much bread for this type of sandwich. It made me wonder if they ran out of flatbread/pita. We were really looking forward to their homemade flatbread. Sooooo disappointed! Never use rolls for gyro, ugh. read more

Great spot for delicious Persian food! The beef koobideh was really good, and so was the chicken kabob with bone. The bread that was served with the meal was excellent, fresh and home made! The staff were really friendly and the restaurant is clean and nice. Will definitely be back to try some more things! read more

My husband went there for lunch today and he can't stop talking how good this place is! They gave generous portions... also I think he's the owner Mike asked if it's his first time there. My husband said yes and he gave him a complimentary hummus, garlic sauce and naan to try! Everything was delicious! Definitely will come back to try other items! Excellent customer service!! This is my new kebab spot! Just crushed a shawerma wrap combo and everything I was looking forward to was absolutely perfect. Meatfully perfect in every bite. Perfectly balanced with the pickle and herbs all wrapped in wonderfully freshly grilled naan. Perfectly simple and served with garlic sauce to maximize flavor levels. Enjoyed my fresh hummus and seasoned fries as sides, definitely think they are the goto with this! Great crunch and flavor, but also perfect tools to apply the garlic and hummus to the wrap. Can't wait to try the koobideh and grilled chicken next time! read more

The food is absolutely delicious. The online ordering leaves a little bit to be desired, which significantly reduces the number of times I come here. The prices appear to be different in person versus online (using the restaurant's own website, not a third-party app). The descriptions of some of the dishes aren't as good online, and they could use more photos of some of the dishes. I wish the chicken shawarma was offered as a plate and not just as a sandwich/wrap. You can put a comment in asking for it to be as a plate (with rice instead of the wrap), but you always wonder if they're going to pick up the comment versus just giving you a sandwich when you go to pick up. If they really refined the online ordering thing, I would probably come here at least twice a month, maybe more. As it is, I only bother every few months when I have time to walk in, order, and wait 15 minutes for my food to be ready. read more

Do not come here. The service was blah. Order a beef koobideh sandwich the worst/ bland beef I've had from Persian restaurants. The sandwich was so white washed. They used a baguette instead of a pita bread, no hummus instead they added lettuce, tomato, onions and some pickles with salad and a side of packet Italian dressing. Couldn't believe what I saw when I got my food. Pure disappointment. Waste of money. read more

Came here for lunch for the first time and had a wonderful experience. Mike was so nice and welcoming, and helped my friend and I decide what to order. We ordered the combo plate with koobideh & chicken breast. Let me tell you- their chicken breast was so tender and NOT dry at all! He also recommended the garlic sauce, which I am SO glad we got, because it was delicious with the chicken and rice. I usually don't eat much rice, but the rice here was so moist, I ate a lot of it. He even threw in a couple drinks and a sample of their hummus, which was amazing btw. Looking forward to making my way back here again soon! Thank you for a delicious lunch! read more

Found this place as my wife wanted kebab, but instead of going to our Favorite spot " The Kebab Shop" in Irvine , I trolled through Yelp looking for great reviews. Finding kebab express and the reviews I decided to try. And I'd wished I'd read more reviews on selection, but not used too 2 different choices of chicken, as I've only had one kind. The kabab I got was the ground chicken, with rice and a tomato. The rice was perfectly cooked, just wished the golden curry covered the entire bed of rice.. it's the whole reason why I chose it, otherwise I can make it at home.. so 3 stars for the 30% curry on the huge bed of rice.. The tomato was the best part.. I'd pay for a second serving/side.. 5 stars for that.. The ground chicken kabab was TERRIBLE!! Rubbery, lots of seasoning, but chewy and it's all one piece, so had to use my steak knife, because the plastic knife given had no chance. But my dog loved it... For $2 more I could have gotten the boneless chicken chunks.. had I'd known.. but of the reviews I read.. I'd thought that's what I was getting, but disappointed when I got home. 3 stars for my dinner... The garlic sauce which was good is 75¢ extra.. really? 2.5 stars would be my choice but, a family restaurant rounded up to 3 stars. Won't be coming back as for 2 meals was $50.. The kebab shop for 2 peeps $30, and all the garlic sauce you want for free... The service was nice, greeted kind, loving and warm.. The restaurant itself has plenty of indoor seating, with middle eastern decor and pleasant. read more

I have been craving for kabob for a long time and I checked yelp I found one it says 5 stars with so many reviews so I went omg the pita bread was sooo good and the garlic sauce wowza! Probably the best tasting garlic sauce I have ever tried. The guy there was so nice not sure if he is the owner or manager he said the garlic sauce is really good! i ordered the combo beef and chicken kabob it was really good specially with the garlic sauce lots of basmati rice my fave and grilled tomatoes too! The persian salad was so refreshing! I will go back and try other food in the menu. My son got the beef shawarma he said it was good too! read more

Absolutely delicious! I always get the chicken koobideh skewers with shallot and yoghurt dip and a Persian salad. The chicken koobideh is always packed with flavor and wonderfully tender. They do have an outdoor seating setup with what looks like Persian-style lounge seating, which could actually be really nice, but even that area didn't look clean or maintained. It had potential, but it just didn't feel inviting. We ended up leaving, and shortly after, another couple walked in and chose to sit outside, probably for the same reason we didn't want to stay inside. Honestly, this place feels like it could have a good vibe if it were busy and properly maintained, but right now it just feels neglected. Between the confusing entrance, lack of upkeep, and uncomfortable indoor environment, it was an easy decision to walk out.

Kabab Express consistently delivers excellent food with fair portion sizes. The kabobs and rice are always flavorful and never overcooked. The staff is friendly and helpful, which adds to the experience. The salad, however, (always) falls short of expectations. While it includes standard toppings like tomatoes, olives, and peppers, the lettuce is mostly pale and lacks freshness, as shown in my photo. It doesn't feel like much effort goes into selecting quality lettuce, which makes the salad less appealing. What's most disappointing, however, is the significant price discrepancy between in-person and online orders. The Family Special #1 is $45.77 when ordered in person, but jumps to $69.77 for online pick-up... a shocking 52% markup. This $24 difference, without any added service like delivery, feels like highway robbery. It's unlikely that Yelp (which appears to be serving the order) takes such a large cut, making this pricing strategy feel exploitative. Kabab Express, I hope you'll reconsider this approach... customers shouldn't feel penalized for ordering online. It's a frustrating issue in what is otherwise a fantastic dining experience. read more

So many delicious options so it was hard to decide but we ordered felafel meal since it comes with a good portion of garden salad. The felafel was crunchy and had a nice side of hummus. The lamb Soltani was very flavorful, tender and juicy, beef koobideh was great too. I upgraded the rice to Baghali polo which is the combination of Basmati rice, dill and lima beans and it was extremely good. My husband ordered Dizi (Abgoosht) and yes it comes with a side of fresh herbs, Persian calls it Sabzi, so refreshing. The half chicken was very good too and had two sides, salad and creamy hummus. Taftoon bread was just made for our order, straight from the oven, hot and fresh and was a very good complement to the meal. They offer a wide variety of traditional dishes, including Dizi and Abgoosht, and their freshly baked bread is reminiscent of Indian Naan (we call it Taftoon).
