After my wife and I adopted our dog Honey, we quickly realized she was under socialized and was anxious/reactive around other dogs and humans. Carlos and his team are beyond amazing. About a year and a half ago, my partner and I like everyone else during the pandemic, decided to adopt a puppy. Carlos helped our family with our shepherd rescue Rex and our silver lab. Rex began showing signs of aggression and Carlos gave us the tools to help him. Rex is now living his best life, we go on walks that are reactive free. Millie passed her AKC Canine Good Citizen test when she was 14 months and we still use K9HS for daycare when we travel and can't take her with us. While I didn't have the chance to enroll my doggo into their puppy training day school, I had the pleasure of joining in on K9HS basic dog training course via Zoom for several weeks with other virtual dog trainers and it was amazing! Led by Carlos, a true the Dog Whisperer, my sis and I would sit in for 45 minutes each week and listen to him share all the knowledge when it came to building a relationship with your dog, centered around respect and understanding. Some topics he covered included how to help your dog bark less, addressing personal space, and the best ways to reward and correct unwanted behavior. Every week would be a new theme, but all of them were certainly relevant to trainers working with dogs of all ages. The classes were quick, but Carlos always made sure to pause between segments to ask if we had any questions, and would even go above and beyond to stay on longer if he needed to explain something in greater detail. Carlos really knows what he is doing and gives trainers a better understanding of what their dog is thinking about and how to get them on board when it comes to training. We LOVE Canine High School! As a certifiable Helicopter Dog Mom with incredibly high standards for dog ownership, I spent months looking for the right trainer for our Rottweiler puppy and decided on K9HS after interviewing with them and following them on social media. We got our puppy, Tembo, at 8 weeks old and started him with K9HS at about four months, after all vaccinations were done. Tembo completed the 12 week Puppy School program (earning his AKC STAR puppy cert) followed by the 12 week Dog School program during which he earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title. He will be continuing on with another program with K9HS. It was very important for us to train Tembo from a young age to be calm, respectful and obedient not only for our sanity but for his safety. He is a large male Rottweiler and could easily out power me by six months old. Unfortunately due to his breed, he's liable to be blamed for any altercation that may occur regardless of his involvement, so we focused very heavily on threshold management, emotional control and confidence with customized guidance from Carlos for both our and Tembo's learning style to make sure he isn't reactive and that we maintain control. We are completely satisfied with everything we have learned and how well behaved Tembo is regularly. Carlos and his team, especially Natalie and Guillermo, do an excellent job of training standard skills in addition to the much harder to train "soft skills" such as threshold management and confidence which has set Tembo up for success and allows us to build on those foundations. Plus, walking him is a dream! He's relaxed and never pulls or runs off. He also doesn't bark or react to most things. All of these traits make life with a dog so much nicer! As an example: I took him on a ferry to Catalina to go backpacking; Entirely unknown experiences with lots of new inputs - he did great! Wasn't concerned about the boat, handled sleeping in a tent, and met tons of new people. He was super chill in all these environments and a large part of that confidence is due to his education and exposure at K9HS. Overall, highly recommend Carlos and the team! It's expensive but worth it - you get what you pay for - and as long as you also do your part at home, and hopefully attend group classes to educate yourself, you absolutely will not be disappointed! We can't say enough good things about Carlos, Candice and the full staff at K9HS. At the end of January I adopted our beautiful Bailey from the shelter. After a great first night it turned out she was going to be quite the challenge! Bailey is the cutest (now almost) 11 month old Chihuahua, but extremely alpha and the absolute boss. Settling her into the house with our old black lab wasn't going to be easy as she was extremely aggressive to him. Luckily he was almost deaf and was doing his best to ignore her. She would pick a fight with every dog she saw, even the pit bulls at the vets office! There was no way she was gonna be welcome at the dog kennel for boarding for our Spring Break trip. Yikes what was I going to do? I met Carlos by happy coincidence while the school were out walking the most well behaved dogs I'd ever seen and the following day Carlos came over to the house to assess Bailey. Yep, in short she was going to be a challenge. She was not responding to the usual blocking techniques and managing introductions to our black lab was going to be a journey. Bailey has made so much progress between the three one on one training sessions with Carlos so far and about 4 weeks of high school training. She's now great with our old lab, an absolute joy playing with the other dogs at Wag hotels and doggie play dates with our neighbors dogs and is much less reactionary when walking her and being around other dogs. Carlos is an amazing trainer! I have a Standard Schnauzer named Kaiser, who was 3 years old when we signed him up for training at K9HS. We did the week long board and train with Carlos in August 2021. He came back a changed dog and we couldn't be happier. One of the main things that was worked on was basic behavior corrections, such as impulse control and manners with other dogs. We also purchased the moderate training package and one of the major things we worked on was loose leash walking. As a mom, it's so important that my dog is able to walk on leash while I push the stroller and knows how to behave when we encounter other dogs. I am very happy with K9 high school! We ended up getting a 1 year old rescued pit mix right before the quarantine happened. Due to social distancing she wasn't able to socialize except with our two small dogs and cat(which she loves and is super kind and gentle towards). To our surprise, she began to be super reactive and intense towards other dogs on leash. We were concerned that she may have leash aggression and worried about letting her met new dogs. We contacted K9 high school, and they did an evaluation of her, and then took her to meet the pack to see how she responded to see if she would need training or just socialization. Thankfully she responded super well to the other dogs! Sometimes proper introductions are everything! She loves her weekly pack walks(I think they call it day care) and now gets so excited when the dog walker arrives. Sure, we can walk her ourselves, but the socialization she's getting with new and different dogs is priceless for her development! Socialization is key for any dog, but especially younger ones, since what they learn now can shape how they react and respond in the future. Sure, $45 a walk (4-6 hours) may seem like alot at first glance, but I can say I fully trust them. Other places may do it longer for cheaper but you never know if it's an inexperienced walker trying to handle a bunch rowdy possibly aggressive dogs. K9HS, Carlos and all the trainers are just the absolute BEST! I've owned dogs my whole life and I feel like I'm a pretty good dog owner but I know I have flaws. Both of my dogs definitely needed more time out of the yard and away from us with other dogs and people. I put them in the dog day care and it's been the absolute best thing I've ever done. I only regret not doing it sooner in their lives. I definitely don't have 4+ hours to commit to taking them out and about and I don't have access to all the dogs they get to socialize with either so this is worth every penny. My dogs have been going for only about 4 weeks now and I notice a HUGE difference when I walk them! They are much less easily distracted by other dogs, which was a goal I had for them. They absolutely love going and they're nice and tired when they get home. As if all that was fantastic enough we've been doing the 12 week classes as well (when we don't have to work) and all the things we've learned from Carlos have worked like a charm! It hasn't taken long for our dogs to catch on and I love doing the classes because you're able to ask Carlos whatever you need to and he is so intelligent and so willing to help! In 2018 we rescued a 4 year old pitbull Olive, as a companion to our 12 year old pitbull Bella. After a few weeks we noticed Olive was trying to dominate Bella and became aggressive towards other dogs on walks. I am very disappointed in this company. I have been struggling with resource aggression with my corgi, and contacted them at my vet's recommendation. They told me I needed to spray my corgi before we could begin training. I did not want to spay her yet as we had intended to breed her once. Per their recommendation, and discussion with their head trainer, we got her spayed in order to begin training. Once she was spayed, we scheduled training services. I had paid for the service and had the first training scheduled. The day before the service, they surprised me with a service agreement, which was required in order for them to train my dog. The agreement was basically written to say they could lose your dog, injure your dog, or not train your dog, but you'd still be liable and would not hold them liable. I requested some minor revisions to the agreement, which were rejected. I did not find this out that they rejected terms until we were already waiting for them outside for her pick up and I received a text that they were not coming. Unfortunately, I have now spayed my dog, and cannot get the training I was assured. This has been an extremely upsetting situation as the spay cannot be undone. read more
