Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks! Our 10 year old pitbull, Chop, graduated from his training program at K9 Intuition this morning and we are so proud of his progress! We took a chance bringing a puppy into our lives a few months back with the hopes that Chop had settled down with age and wouldn't have issues with her (he'd had serious problems with dog aggression years prior), but we quickly realized it wasn't that easy and we needed help getting to the root of his issues (and ours). Chop is a reactive dog and he's also been running the house for many years. We needed to change the dynamics and set boundaries for everyone's benefit. After the 5 Step program he's already made huge strides engaging with us, following commands, and being less reactive. Our trainer, Stefano, was really wonderful. He was extremely knowledgable and very kind. I felt comfortable asking questions and appreciated that he was patient and understanding with us throughout the process. We were ultimately the ones with the most to learn during the program. We already feel more confident walking Chop and knowing we have the tools to deal with any situations we encounter. Chop genuinely seems to enjoy the training process! He gets out of the house much more and he loves the praise he gets for a job well done! We are so proud of our old boy! We have hopes that down the road we'll be able to integrate him and our pup, but for now we're going to keep working with Chop and start basic obedience with the puppy. Fantastic!!! Absolutely satisfied! I have a younger (10 months) pup who I rescued from the county shelter. She spent almost an entire month at the shelter when she was only 7 months old. When I got her, she was a timid and unsure pup. However, I could see hints of confidence and wanting to be more in her. I reached out to K9 Intuition for help. I met with Stefano at his training facility. It was a large indoor building with mats, cots, boxes and other training aids. I explained to Stefano the direction I wanted to go with my pup and expressed that not only did she need to be trained, but I need to be trained, to train her. Stefano explained his 5 week course in great detail. It was everything I was hoping it would be. The foundational building blocks for a proper, well behaved member of my family. Life changing for us. My wolf dog mix Dakota is a completely different dog now. I was so skeptical and nervous because I've tried to hire other trainers in the past but they either wouldn't consider even trying because of her breed or when they did try they completely traumatized her more. This led to added fear, extreme anxiety, biting, hatred of new people especially men, and so many other behavior problems that I was hopeless. Stefano at K9 Intuition was our last chance. I was so nervous about the e-collars but Stefano explained exactly what he was doing and the reasoning behind it before doing anything. He eased my stress and educated me which gave me the confidence to sign Dakota up for the 5 step program. We even signed up my other dog for training (he's an 8 year old golden retriever who is sweet as can be but was so stubborn, pulled so hard on leash, and didn't love other dogs) and the training steps were the same but Stefano explained how each of my dogs are different and tailored our approaches to each dog. My golden is now the best listener and even a child could hold his leash on a walk and he would heel perfectly. It was worth the investment even just after the first day of training for both of them. Our dogs are now on the same page and the training is consistent between the two of them. I genuinely can't believe the immediate progress my dog made and continues to make til this day. I inherited a 2 year old boxer-lab mix who was poorly socialized, lived with rambunctious children, & didn't have much day to day stability. She was difficult around guests, sometimes growling and nipping, and honestly a bit scary and unpredictable. She is not a little dog. When I took her to my local trainer for basic training (not K9), she was often confused and stressed out. She would sit, but that was about it. When I later boarded her at that same facility, I returned from my trip to a lecture from the trainer there, telling me my dog was fearfully aggressive, and recommending behavioral euthanasia. Before the 5-step program at K9 Intuition, my dog would've have been trying to attack the other dogs at that fence line in my posted video. Through the training and guidance both me and my dog received through this program, he was able to confidently walk past a group of dogs off leash and show no signs of aggression or forging ahead. Now, let me say that this training takes work - you need to put in the time to see the results. You're going to have homework that you'll need to fully commit to every day between your training sessions. So I found this dog that had obviously been dumped (people suck) on the street at my work. I coerced her into my office and the craziness began. She instantly fell in love with me. We rescued our 2 y/o GSD from a shelter a few months ago without really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. We've never rescued a dog that wasn't a puppy and didn't know how different it would be to adopt a dog that may have had a terrible past. Bruno came home with us, and we fell in love with his personality and how sweet he was but after getting to know him a little more each day, we realized Bruno had a lot of anxiety around other dogs and some people. We now know exactly what to do when walking him and when new friends come over to meet Bruno. He went from a complete psychopath with dogs and some people to a well-trained gentleman who now trusts us and knows we will always be his protectors and leaders. Walks are actually enjoyable, he doesn't pull or lash out, and we even take him on fun hikes! We can now have friends/family over to see how amazing and lovable he is. Everyone loves him and he's even met a few family members dogs and loves having new friends to play with! We get tons of compliments from strangers when we walk him and family members that saw how he was when we first adopted him can see the complete transformation. He is a completely different dog from the training, and I can go on and on about how this saved us, but the work doesn't stop even though the training sessions are over. Moose is a Rottweiler mix with Pitt and bulldog, so he's very powerful, can be stubborn, and looks extremely scary when he's reacting. Moose & I are still work in progress, to be sure...and for now we are still keeping some distance from other dogs, but we are successfully keeping our collective cool with no pulling or lunging or growling. We just finished our 5 week training course with Stefano and we are really happy with the results. We have two male German short haired pointers, 3.5 years and 1 year old. We could not walk them on leash without just about having our arm pulled out of the socket and really needed some guidance on basic commands so that our dogs understood who the alpha in our house was (because it definitely was not us). We are expecting our first baby so it was really important to us that we got training done that actually worked. After the second session, I noticed a huge shift in our dog's behavior on leash and just following commands in general. Now I'm able to walk them both on the leash BY MYSELF! We learned and gained so much from bringing our goldendoodle to K-9 intuition. It's a real bummer when you don't like your new puppy very much. I've been around animals my whole life. As a teen I grew up working on big ranches in Montana, Wyoming and Utah. I was a wrangler and broke and rode horses, worked with cattle, lots of dogs around. As a young man I always owned a dog. Had a great Lab once that I hitchhiked with from Los Angeles to Sonora, Mexico and back again in 1977. I never really had to train my dogs, when you live, sleep and travel together you and your dog just meld, you train each other. Four years ago we adopted an 8-week old German Shepard/Lab mix; great dog, super sweet and loving. Sport/working dogs need a lot of engagement and exercise. The idea was that my then teenaged son was going to walk/run/train the dog. But then my son developed a neuromuscular condition and walking, much less running was off the table. I'm beat up myself with more than 40 broken bones, over 20 serious orthopedic surgeries, etc. So neither my son nor I was able to engage our dog the way he needed. On top of that, six people in the house with no formal dog training, our poor dog had six different people trying to train him six different ways. The dog ended up with no leash manners at all, several behavioral issues including resource guarding that weren't corrected. Then this spring a family member went to take a toy away from our dog and he bit their hand, more of a hard nip than a bite. The family went into turmoil. The person who was bit didn't want the dog in our house anymore. It was decided that we would put our friend of four years up for adoption. It tore me up to the point where my wife realized that I needed this dog in my life; I wasn't going to be alright giving him up. So we put our dog into a boarding kennel and looked for a trainer. The kennel recommended Stefano to us. We had to wait a few weeks to get him into K9 Intuition's board and train program. The wait was more than worth it! Stefano has a way with dogs that is very spiritual. He is a very calm and centered person. Stefano says he fixes dogs one human at a time. I quickly grasped that the root of the problem wasn't our dog; it was all the mixed messages from all of the people in the house. Dogs thrive on consistency, and they fall apart in an environment of chaos/inconsistency. We put our dog into board and train with Stefano for two weeks. He works miracles. My dog is much happier now. Stefano points out that there is people psychology and dog psychology and they are very different. Most people try to apply human psychology to their dogs and it doesn't work, after years of doing this Stefano can literally think like a dog. Just two weeks with Stefano and our dog now has perfect leash manners, I take him for walks with the leash held by two fingers and our dog's head is right on my left knee. When he starts to spaz out in the house I can calmly block him with my body, make Stefano's "shsst" sound and my dog stops what he's doing and sits. Stefano's techniques are supremely humane, and the result is a much happier, calmer dog. When your dog knows what's expected of him and what the boundaries are, they are actually much more mellow and easier to work with. There's a newfound relationship where you respect the dog and they respect you. When I went to pick our dog up from K9 Intuition, a thunderstorm was moving in. My dog is terrified of thunder and fireworks. I explained my dog's fear to Stefano. Within a minute Stefano introduced our dog to the treadmill that he keeps in his training barn. Under Stefano's guidance my dog took to the treadmill like a duck to water. As the thunder got louder my dog was ignoring it. Stefano explained that my dog's mind and body were now fully engaged in mastering this new skill of walking on a treadmill, he was too engaged to care about the thunder. After we got off the treadmill I worked with my dog in Stefano's modern barn and lo and behold my dog was ignoring the thunder. Stefano is the real deal. He not only understands dog psychology, he can translate that to humans. Stefano says he fixes dogs one human at a time. Lastly, I'd liked to address the issue of Stefano's pricing. First, you really do get what you pay for. In the past we have flushed money down the toilet on trainers for some other dogs we tried to adopt that had some serious issues. Dogs didn't get better, we didn't get better, but the trainers cashed the checks. Money spent no results. Having been a mechanic I can tell you that three cheap tools won't get the job done as quickly or as well as one high quality tool. It's your dog; you want cheap tools that probably won't work or one high quality tool that will accomplish your goals and help you and your dog achieve mutual happiness?
