Well, I hate doing two star reviews. This was definitely a night. I won't soon forget. When we…read morearrived, parking was horrible. The pay parking lot for Minglewood Hall was completely full. The pay lots all around minglewood hall were also full. We drove two blocks in each direction and was having trouble trying to find somewhere to park. We finally seen other people parking at a closed Baskin And Robbins, one street over. We didn't see any no parking signs. This was gonna be our only option. By the time we got parked and in line. It was getting very close to show time. There was a line out the door and it was moving very slow. They were having trouble scanning tickets. Their scanners were not working, so they were sending people to a window, to get paper tickets. We finally got in and seated. The show obviously started a little late. I have only been to Minglewood Hall one other time and my experience then was also less than stellar. The seating was just fold up chairs. They were so uncomfortable! A tallboy beer was $12! My son and I both love Brad Williams. I figured it would be a great to spend some time with him and see a good show. Although Brad Williams and his openers were great! This would turn out to be quite a bad night for us. When the show was over, we headed out to where we had parked. As we were getting close to the car, we seen about 20 other people. They were just standing aroung in the cold looking confused. At that point, we realized all the cars had been towed. In my opinion, this is why people don't come to Memphis for shows or anything. Way to much greed! The parking always sucks! Come to find out PB & J towing sits around the corner and waits on everyone to enter the show. Then they start towing people. If you do a quick search for them on here, you will see that they are very predatory in their practice. They have been sued and reprimanded by the BBB. I'm not sure how a place like this continues to do business in Memphis. That will be for another upcoming review. I know this is not completely Minglewood Hall's fault. But if you know, you don't have enough parking for the amount of sold tickets. You should try to work with your neighbors or warn people. I mean, come on, it was a Sunday night! The Baskin-Robbins was closed. We looked around and finally seen two very small signs on the other side of the lot that just said PB & J towing with a number. When you call the number, it just goes to a voicemail or disconnects. They are closed on Sundays! We had to Uber all the way back to Southaven, Mississippi. The Uber driver told us this is a every weekend thing. He picks people up all the time from PB&J towing in this area. Needless to say, I won't be going back to Minglewood Hall for anything. This ended up being a very expensive night!

I purchased "seated" tickets though and there were no seats, so I'm not sure what that's about. During big shows at least, they do charge for parking and it's like $20, which I think is a bit much, but whatever. We had 2 back to back concerts here in a single week and enjoyed it, but wish we could have had some sort of seating since we paid for "seated tickets" because my husband had a back injury so I paid extra for "seats".

My wife got us tickets to see Gary Owen because she knows how much I love seeing him. The show was absolutely great and she picked some very good seats. I did feel like he cut the show just a little short. There's always that one drunk person that wants to yell out from the crowd. I think it was starting to irritating. What can you say about the orpheum? That hasn't already been said. It's a very nice historical place. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars. Is because like everyone else, they take advantage of people on concessions. I realized back in the day. This is the way places made their money. It's a little different these days. They make plenty of money on the shows. My other small complaint is the seating. Although its way better than Minglewood Hall, the seats are just too close together. I'm a big fella, and it's just very uncomfortable. Overall, they put on great shows and the place is very nice. I definitely wouldn't let the small things stop you from going.

This was a 3.5 star stay…read more We rolled in on a Saturday around 6pm. Didn't know where to pull up the car and ended up on the wrong side of the hotel. Once we found the valet--super long line of cars--it was clear it would be easier to self park so we did, no problems there as Husband had smartly gone inside and checked in already (used room key for parking entry.) Surprised at how enormous this place is between the hotel and parking lot. Everything was loud and kinda chaotic, downtown, the lobby, everything. Not my favorite vibe, also not the hotel's fault. We ate at Capriccio Grill. Food was very good (loved the Butter Board!) but the restaurant itself had that feel of a place where they serve breakfast lunch and dinner in a busy hotel 24/7 so no ambience to speak of. I would love to try the French place, Chez Philippe, when/if we return. Stopped by the bar for a to-go drink and it was long enough to note that the famous chocolate mousse duck was $13 on the menu but we had just been charged $18 at the deli for one to go. Made me feel less like a guest and more like a tourist being taken advantage of. It looked good but definitely wasn't some amazing dessert for that price. The room itself was quiet from the hotel side, despite being right next to the elevators, but there was an event at Autozone Park and a band was playing right outside our 9th floor window for most of our one night stay (until 10pm, started up again at 8am on Sunday.) Also not the hotel's fault but just one more unfortunate occurrence. The room was huge and comfy, loved the Nespresso machine. The bathroom on the other hand was tiny, but fine for one night. Super clean. We didn't see the ducks but I was enchanted by all the duck touches everywhere, from the duck-shaped soap to the duck-shaped single ice cube in Husband's old fashioned to the duck embroidery on one of the pillows and more. Good for them to lean into the duck tradition! Without exception, every employee was very nice and helpful. I would give this hotel another try knowing what I know now because I think it has the potential be a much better experience.
