We took three 12 year old boys here and they had an absolute blast. We went on a Saturday afternoon and we didn't have to wait much at all. When you walk in, it's a little confusing at first since it's not super clear where to go and the place is pretty spacious. We initially went to the cashier, and they directed us to the computers on the side to sign the waivers first, then come back to pay. After we paid, they told us the wait would be about 30 minutes, but surprisingly they called our names within just 2 to 3 minutes while we were still walking around. That was a nice bonus. :) They provided headsocks for free, and we didn't have to pay extra or sign up for any annual membership. Each race is supposed to be 12 laps, but if someone finishes early, you might end up doing less. One of the boys completed 11 laps, but didn't affect the experience at all. As we were exiting, we saw a podium area so kids hopped on for a quick photo. I've been here before for birthday parties and even with coworkers, and every time has been consistently fun. The staff was friendly and everything ran smoothly. Not really sure why this place gets some negative reviews. I haven't experienced anything negative. Would definitely come back. read more

Took my son on a spontaneous mother-son date on a Monday to K1 Speed, and it was both of our first time. Before going, I checked their website for pricing and general info. I'm not going to lie, it seemed a bit pricey at $29.99 for just one 10-minute Arrive & Drive race, plus the $8.99 annual license. But then I saw their weekly specials, and the Monday deal definitely caught my attention: "Members Only Monday": 3 races and the license for $50. Say less! When we arrived, we filled out the waiver and the staff member shared the prices for different race options... but somehow forgot to mention the Monday special. Of course, I had to speak up lol. I told him what I saw online, and he was like, "Oh yeah, I forgot about that." So we went with the special. After, they walked us through a quick briefing on how everything works. We got suited up with our masks and helmets and were ready to go. The best part? There was no one else there, so my son and I had the entire track to ourselves. We ended up doing one race and called it a day. We were told that we can use the 2 remaining races anytime, which is a nice perk. My son had a great time, so we'll definitely be back. There's plenty of parking available. The inside is quite spacious with lots of tables and seating areas. They also have food areas for you to buy food. We walked in without a reservation, and it was pretty empty when we arrived (about an hour after opening). When you first arrive, you need to scan a QR code to sign the waivers, then head to the cashier to pay. It costs about $29.99 per person for one race (4 rounds). You'll also need to sign up for their annual membership, which is around $8 if you don't have it already. Before racing, you're required to wear a headsock under the helmet. We got the headsock for free, but assuming we only got it free 'cause we had to sign up for the annual membership. If it's your first time, the staff will give you a quick overview of how to operate the karts. The helmets weren't the best, the visors were pretty scratched, and it made it a bit hard to see. Overall, it was still a fun experience. The go-carting was fun, but that's not my problem. We got the arcade cards and played games. I got 40 tickets. When I tried to redeem my tickets, I was told that the GAMES themselves were the prizes. So basically, I got a card, played Crossy Road, and didn't get ANY prizes except the PLAYING. They didn't even TELL us that we got tickets that did nothing when we BOUGHT the cards. I asked for both a prize and, when I was turned down, I asked for a refund, which was DENIED!!! They told me that they got rid of the prize machine when they were remodeling the arcade, and just DIDN'T REPLACE IT?!?!?! The worst part was that they didn't tell us until after I spent my card. Came here for a work event and had a blast racing around. The food is bland and tastes microwaved which is why I had to knock down a star, but no one goes to K1 speed for the food. Would be nice if there was padding on the seat of the go-cart because my back was sore and bruised up the next day, but my driving was a little more advanced than others so if you don't go hard, I'm sure it's not a big deal. I do not recommend doing a private party here. Spent about $1,500 for 11 kids and it was NOT a great experience. Every other place we've had a private party, there is a host or someone who walks you through the process, and checks on you throughout. With this place it felt clunky to get the kids set up and ready to race. Then after we set up our stuff in the party room , we had to continuously go to the front desk to ask for basic things and in some cases wait in line to do so. No one came around to check on us proactively even once. It felt strange tipping $180 since the service was so minimal. Also it's a small thing but when I went to close out, the front desk person (who was sucking on a sucker as she was helping me), told me we had to close out with her and then separately go close out with the restaurant for the food (which was part of the party package). Just another example of how things were not cohesive, or well planned out. The kids did enjoy the actual racing experience though. Walked in with 5 racers. 3 of the workers joined us in the race and it was okay. More traffic on the track than we anticipated. They let us be at full speed for about 1 lap but then turned it down after that lap. Cashier explained a "Monday" deal that we could've bought and when we tried to purchase it they said the deal was no longer available and didn't want to honor their advertisement. So, I had heard about this place and driven by it too many times to count...so I figured it was time to take my son (12) with me to check it out. My son loved it. He liked it so much we came back two more times that same month. I like that they print out your time and the specs of the race and it's def run to race. I want to try their drifting nights but it's a once in a while thing. If you have kids, give this a whirl. It is 100% worth the experience. This is a fun activity for kids around 7 years and older as there is a height limit. There are 2 go kart race tracks. One for juniors and one for older teens and adults. There are long wait periods on the weekends and there is an arcade with few games to keep you occupied while you wait. The staff at the front desk are friendly. However the staff at the tracks can be grumpy and mean. There are no instructions given to you at all when you enter, you just sit down and hope for the best! Had a terrible experience at K1 Speed Irvine. A family member's phone was destroyed on the track, and the manager, Seth, showed zero empathy or professionalism. He claimed there were signs everywhere telling guests to secure phones -- but there were none, and staff never warned us. When we tried to explain the issue so it doesn't happen to others, he got defensive and told us to leave instead of addressing the problem. Very disappointing and unprofessional. This was my first time trying go cart racing and it was good and bad. K1 Speed is an indoor go cart racing chain with over 90 locations. The location of this K1 is in Irvine, CA and they have fully electric go karts. I came here for a private event, which is the best way to go, because we had the place to ourselves, a nice buffet, and plenty of drinks. When we first arrived, we all had to sign waivers, and then were given wristbands and drink tickets. This process took awhile because the line I was in moved very slowly. Then, one of the workers went over the rules and the meanings of each colored flag. Next, were able to select helmets, however, they were out of small helmets so I had to squeeze into an XS. Finally, we were buckled into our karts. We had to wait quite a while until we got to race because there were two rows ahead of us. Once it was our turn to race, we went on the track and drove 13 laps. Driving the go karts on the main track was pretty fun! I was hit once, but it wasn't too bad. They had a second track that was smaller and had more turns. I was the last kart in the row and after everyone got on the track, my kart wouldn't go. They had not turned my kart on! After they turned on the car and the system loaded, I was able to join the other drivers on the track. The second course had a lot more turns and I was able to drift more. Towards the end of the race, a cart in front of me stopped and another kart crashed into me at full speed. The impact was so strong, my head was completely shaken and my bottom teeth pushed against my top teeth. Even over a day later, the back of my head still has pain. A lady that I had crashed into injured her thigh. After the major crash, I was done racing. In addition to the racing, we had a Mexican (Cinco de Mayo) themed buffet with a delicious salad, black beans, rice, tortillas, chicken and beef or pork, and chips and salsa. The food was good, especially the salad and chips. We were also given drink tickets for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, which was really generous. The staff provided good service. The check-in process went smoothly, although a bit slow. The staff at the racing area were helpful and informative. The staff at the bar/food area were great. The place is decorated like a race track and there is a podium for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Although the K1 go kart racing is somewhat dangerous, if you don't get into a severe crash, it can be a very fun experience. read more

Summary: "2 hour" wait turned into total 5 hr wait. Rude employee that called us stupid and was on our case the whole time. Got kicked out before second race because of something that wasn't our fault. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE not coming back, $70 waste. Explanation: I came to K1 speed today at 5p and was told that there would be a 2 hour wait for our first race, Which is a lot of time, but we waited. Then after that 2 hours they told us that it would be another 2 hour wait, so till 9, we were already there and it was late so we had no choice but to wait. Also, they gave us no compensation for this additional two hour wait. During that time, we were asking a certain employee about how much longer, we would have to wait and just general questions about the place, nothing dumb. However, this employee responded to us very rudely and was treating us like children that don't know anything. He also had the nerve to call our questions "stupid". So rude. Then at nine, we had our first race. After that we waited an additional 30 minutes for our second race. Getting ready to takeoff for the second race, the same employee just randomly kicked us out, saying that we were bumping into each other, which was only due to the sudden acceleration increase which caused the bumping. He seriously kicked us out after we waited a whole 5 hours and paid a $70 for two races. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. If you or considering coming here, just don't, there are far better places to go than to bore yourself and experience crappy employees. read more

First time for my son and he had a blast. The employees there answered questions and helped out with the first timers regard the track and the rules. They provide you with safety tips and of course a helmet for racing. A head sock it something you need to purchase with the anual membership of 8$ bucks. We showed up and it wasn't too busy, we bought 3 races for 3 kids. After waiting an hour to be called we asked for an estimate, and were told it would be another 45 minutes before race time. I would have expected that an expected ~2 hour wait would be something they mention at checkout. A little over halfway into the first race, the staff announced the "systems" were down and that all races were cancelled. On top of that, the race scores were inaccurate after the first race. So we paid $60 per kid to sit around for 2 hours, watch a partial race, and then wait in line for a partial refund. This tracks with the chaos I've experienced at other K1 speed locations. They all seem to run at the speed of molasses and suffer frequent tech issues. read more

This place was so fun with my group of friends! Definitely recommend reserving a time slot if you have a big party. We were a party of 12, and we were accommodated so greatly! We got 3 races, and were split into two groups: 6 racers each. Environment: It's a big warehouse with two tracks, lots of seating to wait around (couches and tables). They also have an arcade if you want to play games in between waiting for the next race. Honestly such a thrilling experience! Food: They have a paddock lounge where you can order food while you wait. Pretty good finger foods, we just grabbed chicken tenders and pizza and it was yummy. It's also where you collect your paper with the race results time. They have great snack and drink options as well. Customer service: All the team members that I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. When the race is about to start they go over some rules and you have to listen carefully. With bigger groups, try to pay attention to what they are saying and follow accordingly so that the race and getting into the karts run smoothly, and so that they don't have to keep yelling over you. Overall, I was so happy racing and having time of my life while i was being a speed racer, there are some competitive racers, kids as well that are just having fun! Both tracks are engaging and enjoyable. The karts are slightly inconsistent from one another, but it was more of the tire wear and braking rather than power inconsistencies. A manager needs to meet with the staff and review safety protocols. Sorry, lads. Going onto the track is incredibly dangerous while karts are moving at half, and sometimes, full speed. Yellow flags are slow to come out as well. Some people spun out, and the karts stayed at full throttle long enough for people to catch and pass the person facing towards traffic at full speed. If things don't change fast, I wouldn't be surprised if some get seriously hurt. Also, they had some technical difficulties on that day during my second and third races. No times were recorded, which really sucks when you have a bet going with friends. read more

Nice track and cars. Unfortunately, the staff severely misrepresented how long things would take. They said an hour wait for the first race and 40 minutes until the next race. Sure - no problem. I understand it's busy and we walked in. But they kept bumping our kids on the list to accommodate all of their other scheduled groups. It took 2.5 hours before ours kids could race once. We ran out of time for a second race at all. Finally, when I ask when our turn would be next, their staff kept passing blame (the team on the track blame those at the front desk, the front desk blames the track). We came back at 5:32 and checked in, and then waited 50 minutes before our kids could race because they were running adult races on the kids track (meanwhile the adult track was being utilized by the extra workers who had nothing better to do). I had 100 times more fun than I thought I would... Attended a corporate function last week at K1 Speed in Irvine and had the best time. Not only was the conference room spacious and clean, the entire establishment was. We had both a catered breakfast and lunch, and the food was pretty good. After lunch, we were able to participate in races, and OMG, it was so fun! From the moment we had the safety briefing, to getting in my car, and the actual race, I felt so safe. Total adrenaline rush! The two guys that worked the track the day of our event were great. They were so knowledgeable about the safety of the cars, and track. I felt safe and very taken care of. My first time DRIVING a go kart! It was so much fun!!! I usually have only been a passenger while my boyfriend drives. Today I got the opportunity to race against him, and failed miserably lol. K1 speed requires you to get the annual membership which is $8 per person. You then proceed to select the number of races you want to have. The membership allows you to get a free head sock to bring home, and so that you don't need to rent out the helmet. Inside the Irvine location are two tracks : adult and beginner. There's also a party room for birthdays and a small restaurant with reasonable prices. The awesome part of k1 is that you get a scoreboard of what place you ranked and how fast your fastest lap was! We had a great time at this K1 Speed location! There is a ton of parking so it was easy to get to. Once we arrived, check in was easy and the process was simple. We got on a track within 15 minutes and then when we requested to race alone as our group was 8, they made it happen. They have 2 tracks, one for speed and one with more turns. The guides were helpful and it was easy to get racing quickly. It's definitely a lot more expensive than it used to be so maybe not as family friendly anymore read more

I have only been to one other place that has electric go karts. Electric go karts are a whole different experience than gas karts. This location has 2 race sections - One big and one smaller track. Of course the smaller track has less of wait (30 minutes or less), while the large track can have a wait up to 2 hours! The ideal thing to do is to book 2 races which is about $60/a person - start with the small race to get the blood pumping while placing a spot on the waitlist for the larger track. They also have a small arcade and food spot to keep you from being bored in between races! I will forewarn you, the racing can be addicting and you may have sore forearms by the end! From what my friends have said not all K1s have electric karts so check the location ahead of time. read more

Absolutely, LOVE Irvine's K1 Speed! We've been to several K1's in the So. Cal area & this is one of the best locations. From the top notch friendly cashiers who provided excellent customer service. The pit crew who were also helpful to answer questions & moved things quickly keeping our wait times down. The karts were actually pretty good & when we did experience a mechanical issue they were quick to take care of getting us another kart. Which is another reason why my son loves this K1 & it's asphalt track. I believe when things go well in a company it usually starts from the top. We had a great time, we took 3 tours/races. These go carts are pretty fast. Very cool place to take your little ones. After each race they give you a little time for break and 15 minutes later ready for the next race. We didn't try their food but had fun with table ice hockey, basketball, etc. I will be back and worth the money. A good place to have fun. The carts sit low so you will never flip, tracks are good. Service was absolutely terrible. We arrived at 8pm, 2hrs before closing. We checked in and went to purchase our races. We were told there was a buy 2 get one free deal happening that day. We decided to do the deal, after they guaranteed us 3 races before closing. We were a group of 5, so they told us it was a 30 minute wait. After waiting they brought us to the track and went over the rules. One specifically being that no bumping was allowed and if it happened, that person would be removed from the race. On the first race they gave one of us a faulty kart. The kart was super bumpy and the plastic piece on the bottom was broken. The flag guy stopped our race twice because of the Kart being faulty. He told them that they needed to change the kart because it would be too dangerous to continue racing with it. The other guys working there told the flag guy to keep the race going because it had already started and they had to finish the rest of the races before closing. The entire first race they had to continue dangerously driving the kart. The second race there were 4 people added from a different group. This group was very serious about their racing and made rude comments to us about racing with them. One of the guys told one of the girls in our group that this was not something for little kids and told her she should ask for a booster seat, even though she is an adult and she was not that much shorter than him. The guy was behind her in the line up for the race. He continuously bumped her even before the race began. After the race started both guys started driving aggressively and recklessly. They bumped more than 4 people on the track on multiple occasions. One of the times was so bad that the other person spun out and there was a loud boom from the collision. The guy who bumped was not removed from the game or given a warning. The whole rest of the race we couldn't even have fun because we were getting attacked by these guys. When the race was done we had to wait for our last one. The two guys were asking the workers casually to be put on the next race even though they didn't pay for it. The two guys were clearly regulars here. The workers immediately told them "we got you guys" and accommodated their request. They then got off the race giving us dirty looks as they left. On our final race it was okay, but at this point we were already disappointed and annoyed with the service. The workers also did not make sure the drivers seatbelts were good before racing. Very very terrible. The whole time the workers were messing around and just trying to do everything fast so they could close, and did not care about anyone's safety or experience. With the amount we paid (almost $400), we are never coming back!.. and the fact that the regional manager is viewing this comments and responding terribly, and not doing anything about any of the other things is even worse.
