Truffle mashed potatoes
Terra S.

This place was so good I want to fly back to Porto Portugal for this restaurant as well! Not only was the food good and exquisite but the service was excellent and the decor very nice. We had the beef carpaccio, truffle mashed potatoes, croquettes, and ribeye. The ribeye was so juicy and tender and I love how they cut it up. I gotta learn how to make truffle mashed potatoes like that. We happened to just stumble upon this place and I'm so glad we did and that they were open late. (Seemed like all the other restaurants had closed). Dreaming of their food.

staff is beyond professional, interior is meticulously cleaned...we were seated promptly at the time of our res and greeted by waitstaff immediately...to say that we're off to a good start would be an understatement!! The bread/butter/meat starter was outta this world, red wine and old fashioned were tip top too. We opted for the Argentinian ribeye, spinach and truffle mashed potatoes and were blown away by how perfect every single thing was. Every single thing about this dinner was above and beyond, but the friendliness and attention to detail/service by the ladies who helped us stood out! This place is a homerun, couldn't have been happier!

A unique steakhouse in Porto serving beef from around the planet from Irish ribeye to Australian waygu to Argentinian beef and even a NY strip from the US. It's a pretty small place with several different seating areas including by the bar, upstairs and a small room lined with AstroTurf. You are encouraged to try and compare different steaks do I ordered the tenderloin from Portugal and my wife the ribeye from Ireland. For sides we chose the creamy truffled mashed potatoes and green salad. The food is presented family style with the beef beautifully sliced on a large wooden board which facilitates sharing and comparing. Such a great idea. The ribeye was delicious while it seems tenderloin is not quite what we think of in the US -or maybe it's a bad translation (note: had "tenderloin" another time too someplace else and was quite similar-a bit chewy and somewhat flavorless). In any case the service was really good with our young waitress juggling a lot of tables. We arrived at 7:30 when they opened on a Monday and within a few minutes the place was full-RESERVATIONS ESSENTIAL. Since it was our anniversary they surprised us with a free molten chocolate cake with a large flaming torch shooting out the top-very nice! If you are hankering for a hunk of beef-this is the place. Not a spot for vegetarians.

The end of the scallops!

It was cook medium rare but tougher than an uncooked skirt steak. After three bites I called it quits. Hard to believe a filet mignon could be that tough and flavorless. Also order the Gratin Dauphinois with bacon. Funny thing was, I couldn't find any bacon and barely found any potatoes. It was just a mass of coagulated cheese. My wife and I split the seafood ceviche which was flavorless salmon and tuna with a few bits of shrimp. Lastly, my wife had the mushroom risotto which had great mushroom flavor and it was loaded with a variety of mushrooms but it had an excessive amount of cheese which also made it extremely salty. From a food standpoint it was an utter failure. The service was fine and the ambiance was nice but the decor was quite cheap looking. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

They were able to accommodate a last minute booking & even sat us in the upstairs area to accommodate our stroller. It was definitely more of a Vegas feel than I was expecting, very "hip" think dark and loud music. Service was impeccable; truly never had to even lift a finger not even to refill our water cups. Some of the food was hit and miss, but the hits outnumbered the misses and truly tasted so good we can forgive the one dish that wasn't amazing. We ordered the shrimp tacos for a starter - weird interpretation of tacos with less than fresh/warm tortillas and deep fried shrimp that would have been better grilled or fried in a different coating. It wasn't for us. However, let me say the steak was fabulous. We ordered the Brazilian steak and the filet mignon - the bark on the steak was excellent, full of flavor and plays on texture. We also very much enjoyed the polenta fries. The cocktails were also very good (crafted) especially at such a reasonable price $10-$13.

The place was busy with guests and our server was nice, but a bit overwhelmed. It looked like they had too many tables to be serving to give the level of service they thought they were giving from a management perspective. We asked about the recommendations on their beef choices and our server tried her best to explain them. We opted for the T-Bone for two with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. The steak came and was beautiful. It was massive and pre-sliced off the bone-a nice touch. But as we made it through the steak, there was an inordinate amount of fat and especially gristle versus the meat for a T-Bone. What looked like it should be a "10" ended up being about a four. As for the side dishes, the mashed potatoes were truffled. I don't know if that was for panache or just because the spuds were kind of bland. The grilled vegetables were practically swimming in oil- so much so that you had difficulty putting your fork in some as they slipped away. There were no salads listed on the menu and I had to actually ask if there were any to be had. The server say there were and I ordered one that was nice. But I think (as I've seen in some Portuguese eateries) they downplay the salads because they'd rather not deal with them a la lazy. There were many other menu selections to be tried, but I didn't return for a second try. My impression was that they thought more of themselves than maybe they should and it probably applied to other entrees, etc as well.

I got the goat cheese and honey salad which was fresh and delicious. Loved the creamy, caramelized goat cheese! My SO ordered a half order francesinha which Brasao is rumored to make the best one in Portugal. Our server did not ask us how we wanted the steak and it came out pretty much still moo-ing. Way too rare even for our usual medium rare taste. We ate it anyway, but would have been better if it had been cooked a bit longer. All the meats and the sauce intermingled surprisingly well and didn't taste too heavy, although I don't know how anyone can eat more than this half order, it is so filling. I think this dish traditionally comes with fries, but here it did not and we ordered fries as a side. I kind of liked it that way, as they were still crunchy. I asked for some ketchup and received the skimpiest 1/3 filled small ramekin. The lemon pie was refreshing and tart. A perfect little dessert to cut the heaviness of the francesinha. Reservations are a very good idea if you can score one, otherwise you'll be in for a wait.

Situated on the side of a hilly street, this beautiful, modernly decorated restaurant had its doors open all across and had a great vibe. We were informed they didn't have any open tables, but we were free to sit at the bar and wait for one while we enjoyed a drink, so we did. No less than 10 minutes later, a table opened up. The menu is divided into appetizers, small plates, and entrees. I chose two appetizers as my meal (spicy pulled pork and yuca fries with aioli mayo). My companion got the Picanha (sliced beef), which had super interesting flavors: thinned-out refried beans, a puree that had bananas in it (we're unsure what else it was mixed with), and roasted veggies. My pulled pork was super moist and flavorful and came with these corn bread-style cakes. I could do without the corn bread cakes but the pulled pork was exquisite and not spicy despite it saying so on the menu. The staff was fantastic and customer service is their jam. Everyone who walked in was greeted and told of the dining options. Rarely did we see someone walk away. Everyone opted to have a drink at the bar while they waited for a table. Highly recommend Mescla!

Otherwise, the ambience alone was super cute, it felt like I was in a rainforest with industrial concrete caves.
