This is definitely one of several places I wished I'd had time to go back to more than once, or…read moreindeed, ideally, that they'd somehow decide to open an offshoot in the exact place I live in the US (counterpoint, that that would *suck* for my arteries)... I'm very glad we stopped here while we were in Porto. I'm also glad we managed to find two *seats* together - the place is tiny, and well-attended. It's a bit cramped if you're dining in, but worth it (assuming you can find a seat.) I was also spoiled after the first fried cheese-dog arrived like 2 minutes after ordering it, despite it being so busy - the pica pao took a longer time (not an unreasonably long time), as did the second cachorrinho I decided I needed to get even though I wasn't *terribly* hungry after sharing the first two items, cause it was so good, and I knew I wouldn't be back any time soon, if ever (was fine by me, as I was also enjoying trying a bunch of Portuguese spirits for cheap - 3.5 euro for a decently large glass of ginja, 3-5 euro for various Portuguese brandies... they thought I was weird ordering a large glass of ginja, but it goes *so* well with the salty deep fried food served here.) Cachorrinhos are super unhealthy obviously, being basically a fried hot dog stuffed with cheese, but excellent, totally worth the roughly 5 bucks. The pica pau Americo was also a pretty good value, as a "small" is... not small. I figured I should try both of the things they were most known for - the pica pau was great too, but if I were ever back, I'd probably just stuff my face with wonderful fried crispy cheese dogs.

It's basically a heart attack on a plate, with just pure meat and cheese. The acidity of the olives helped us barely make it through the dish. It was also too salty. I would just stick to the cachorrinhos! The staff member who was checking on the line outside was not friendly. However, the staff behind the counter serving the food were efficient and kind.

We didn't have any problems with communication. It helped that they could speak in Spanish and my brother could speak it way better than me. The food was very good. All the flavors were spot on. All plates were wiped out. The ribeye, though, was not that tender. It was flavorful and the temperature was right, but it was quite chewy. So, if there is one dish that we wouldn't recommend, it's the ribeye. Everything else was great. The place is worth coming back to if you want your carnivore cravings to be satisfied.

We had plates to share and it was honestly all so incredibly good. Pork dishes, fresh chips, and these kind of truffle croquettes fried in squid ink. The prices aren't exactly cheap, however the quality and the ambiance of the place I'd say is worth it. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The location is also very central -- it was only about a 5 minute walk from our hotel near the Church of Saint Ildefonso. Would definitely recommend stopping in for delicious food and a great vibe all around.

The francesinha was very good but HEAVY. it's not for the faint at heart. The sauce was delicious, the pork and beef were cooked well and the egg fried to perfection. I got the goat cheese and honey salad which was fresh and delicious. Loved the creamy, caramelized goat cheese! My SO ordered a half order francesinha which Brasao is rumored to make the best one in Portugal. Our server did not ask us how we wanted the steak and it came out pretty much still moo-ing. Way too rare even for our usual medium rare taste. We ate it anyway, but would have been better if it had been cooked a bit longer. All the meats and the sauce intermingled surprisingly well and didn't taste too heavy, although I don't know how anyone can eat more than this half order, it is so filling. I think this dish traditionally comes with fries, but here it did not and we ordered fries as a side. I kind of liked it that way, as they were still crunchy. I asked for some ketchup and received the skimpiest 1/3 filled small ramekin. The lemon pie was refreshing and tart. A perfect little dessert to cut the heaviness of the francesinha. Reservations are a very good idea if you can score one, otherwise you'll be in for a wait.
