We love KM! My daughter has been dancing there for 4 years, and has been on the dance team for 3. It's been nothing but a positive experience for her, and all of us! The new owner has done an incredible job upholding the legacy of KM, and has worked through the growing pains of being the new owner gracefully. We are constantly telling friends to try this studio, and I encourage anyone with kids interested in dance to give it a try! Honestly, the recent 1 star reviews seem to be fake, or from cowardly parents or former staff who don't like the new policies. It's a shame they feel the need to selfishly try to ruin the reputation of a small business-- just because it didn't work for one person, doesn't mean there aren't others there who are thriving. read more

My daughter has been dancing at this studio since 2016. We have worked closely with the last owner and the current one! They are both wonderful humans and excellent teachers! My daughter has made so many friends and has grown into a good little performer. I highly recommend this studio to everyone! My daughter now 11 is so happy with not only the amazing dance instructors but also the respectful environment of the other students at KM. First and foremost Amberlee is an amazing and super patient in teaching to two adults with no dance experience make a surprise choreographed dance for our father daughter dance at my wedding. ***********SEE REVISION BELOW************* I tried calling this studio for over a week to see about setting up a trial class or even just having my daughter come and watch a class to see if it was right for her.... The phone just rang..... And rang.... No answering machine?? Really? Weird!! So finally I spoke to someone who happens to have a child that attends classes there and got Amberlee's email, I messaged her telling her my daughter knows her from school ( Amberlee choreographs all of her school plays and my daughter just adores her) and really wants to start dance classes, can we set up a trial?! (At this point I'm super excited about finally making contact) only to get a response saying were working on our recital, no new students allowed 'til mid-August. So I reply wow, how disappointing I'll let her know. To which she answers "We have classes during the summer, and intensives as well as camps but they are all full... Sorry. Oh & so are my beginner classes". Ummm ok so you told me that why? I get it you're sooooo busy I'll find somewhere else.... I understand classes fill up, but I'm positive she could have picked up the phone and called me (I attached my phone number to my email AND sent it from my Iphone) to let me know in a courteous manner that the summer session was booked, but maybe I could try back in August if we hadn't found somewhere else already, and thanks for the interest. ----------------REVISION------------------- I was contacted my Ms Amberlee about 3 weeks after leaving this review and she further explained the email that she sent. Saying that I misunderstood her and that the summer schedule had not yet been posted and that I was welcome to follow up in a couple of weeks to check availability for their camps. & that she did not intend to offend me in saying the classes were full currently, they just have a # they can't go over without making it unfair to the students & teachers because teachers are stretched too thin.... This is not at all what I understood from her email so I'm very glad that she followed up with me as it gives me a very different view of her business. So in fairness to K&M I think a revised review is called for. I do appreciate Amberlee contacting me after the fact and clearing up our misunderstanding. I guess it goes to show you that it is true tone truly can not be conveyed via txt/email! To me her reaching out this long after the fact shows great customer appreciation & though I can't speak for the actual classes themselves.... Customer appreciation like this is hard to find. My daughter has attended KM Dance Arts for two years. The first year was at the San Juan location and the second year was at the new location in Carmichael during Covid. I cannot speak highly enough about the care and integrity Amberlee (owner and instructor) and her staff took during these last many difficult months. At the onset of Covid, and when it was safe per guidelines, Amberlee moved classes outdoors so the kids could finish their season and perform safely outside. Because my daughter was an existing member, she was able to continue her dance via zoom classes and private tutoring sessions the following year to remain safe. Through intermittent closures and all the challenges that small businesses faced these last many months, Amberlee and her staff remained professional and positive, providing my daughter ballet instruction so she could stay on track to reach her goal of starting lyrical this year. If your child is interested in exploring dance, this is the studio for you. The owner, Miss Amberlee was born to be a dance teacher and has a passion for it that just rubs right off on the kids. She has such a way with them and really teaches them about teamwork, hard work, dedication and how to express themselves. My daughter started when she was 3 1/2 in the creative dance class with Miss Katie. Miss Katie made it so fun and the recital was adorable. My daughter moved onto bigger kid classes as she got older and loved exploring all the different classes they offer. She even did the Frozen summer camp and had a blast. She dances about 10 hours each week and she couldn't be happier. Rita (former owner) has recently passed ownership to a very ambitious and talented instructor, Amberlee Prosser. Amber has been teaching my daughters, along with the equally talented Katy Cutlip for the entire time my daughter has attended here. They bring to life the fun and creative way to express yourself through dance, to really feel the freedom. My daughter has been dancing since she was 3. Until about 6 years ago, she went to KM for one tap class a week ONLY. We didn't spend any time there, but I always felt welcome. You are allowed to hang out and watch or drop your child off at the school and leave. I trust the studio as a safe, fun and educational place that my daughter looked forward to once a week for 7 years. We never felt pressured from the teachers to do more than my daughter wanted. They were great with her as a small child and were great role models. When she entered junior high school, she didn't want to dance anymore. They were disappointed to see her go, but were not rude in any way. School has always been their first priority for the students. A year later she decided to go back and turn dance into her 'sport'. She (and our family) has been very active since then. I'm not going to say it is all roses, but it isn't ugly either. The studio is like a well rounded person, it has good points and bad. We shopped around at other studios, but each studio has their own personality, pros and cons. This studio fit us best. My daughter is graduating high school and will be going on to college in the fall. She LOVES dance, but is ready to move on. She has a solid foundation in dance. To end this, dance, like other sports, is demanding, but with excellent (and highly educated) coaches/teachers, our children learn perseverance, passion, time management, prioritizing, and committment. We could not have found a better "home" for our dancer. Our daughter has been dancing since she was 7 and she's now 16. She did most of her training at another local studio which started to ignore her as soon as she reached their top level (at age 14). With a long search, we found Miss Amberlee and KM. What a blessing! Amberlee and ALL the dancers welcomed our daughter with open arms. She encourages and motivates the children, always wanting the best for them. Every night when our daughter comes home from dance, she has some great story about class and how awesome it was! She's so happy there. Amberlee constantly brings in guest teachers and is always trying to improve the studio in some way. She's honest, hardworking, and delightful to be around. Her enthusiasm rubs off on all the kids. I feel so blessed and lucky to have found this studio. My daughter has been coming here for 4 years and she absolutely loves it. Amberlee was a dance teacher at her elementary school a few years back and my other daughter adored her. I was always completely floored by the impressive work she did with the kids at the twice yearly dance recitals. The funny thing is I didnt know she taught here when I walked in to register. How fortuitous. As the owner of the studio and a teacher, she is a amazing force-- compasionate, fun, hard working and she expects and gets the best out of her students. She genuinely loves children of all ages, from little ones to teens, and has a true rapport with them. All the teachers at the studio are caring, hardworking, and truly great at what they do.The best part is, this is a very family friendly studio where all the kids feel at home. There is no "Catty" back biting behavior or neuroses among the dancers. They support each other and encourage one another to do their best. KM Dance Studio "appears" to be small in size so our awesome experience here has come as a complete surprise. In June they put on a two-hour dance show that revealed such a great cross-section of talent -- from outstanding professional-looking teens to adorable little dancers -- that we were blown away. Aside from the terrific production results, the best thing about KM has been the positive effect the teachers and classes have had on my middle-school-aged daughter over the last year. This was her first year dancing since Kindergarten so she was afraid that she wouldn't fit in at her age as a beginning dancer (and she tends to be a little shy). The teachers worked with her so she would feel at ease and found a class that was right for her. She learned so much over the year and most importantly, really became confident as a dancer. This is a big deal for us since previously she had been convinced that she wasn't good at physical endeavors. The teachers have been so encouraging and they are very good at their craft. My daughter now wants to sign up for several classes and continue dancing in high school! The atmosphere at the studio is friendly at both the student and parent level. One of the interesting things I noticed is that the classes this year for beginners tend to be smaller than the classes for the more advanced dancing (I would have expected the opposite due to regular attrition rates). This trend is an ideal learning situation for dancers at both levels -- great teacher to student ratio as dancers are first learning and need additional attention, and skilled dancers who stick around past the first class to allow for various offerings of intermediate and advanced classes -- with plenty of members to put on productions.
