And finally getting that refund is the only good news here although I am aware that many other customers are still waiting for their refunds. It was a fairly substantial refund, which pointed out to me not only how much money I have spent on these products over the past couple of years, but also, just how many months that the company had to backtrack to ensure they reimbursed customers for lengthy amount of time it turned out to be that the laundry products were tainted with bacteria. Why did it take so long for the company to reach out to customers about this huge problem? If they didn't know about the bacteria problem, that's bad enough. If they knew about it and delayed reporting it to customers while they got their ducks in a row would simply be too evil to contemplate. I'm not sure what the "company" line is on the issue. Money in hand, I am done with the Laundress forever even though they say they are retooling their product line. I have already found another laundry brand with clean and non-toxic ingredients. Buyer beware.

Less than two weeks after purchase, the fabric appeared discolored after I got caught in a very light rain/mist. I gently tried to clean it using a toothbrush and water. The discoloration grew. When I took the bag back to the store, the owner blamed me for trying to clean the bag. I told her I thought a $450 handbag should be more durable. She told me care instructions were on a website that she tells all customers about. However, she never mentioned a website to me and when I pointed that out, she once again blamed me -- it was my fault for not asking if there was a website. Huh? I'm going to try to get a refund directly from my credit card company. I'm totally frustrated by this experience as I want to support small businesses and female entrepreneurs, but this was a terrible experience. Poor quality product, terrible customer service. Concerned about the longevity of this cute shop.

And this happened twice! The first time around, I expected what would be a normal, adequate response: that they would refund or exchange the bag. Not so! Instead, I spent three weeks bringing my bag back into the store (one time having to wait an hour for the store to open because they happened to be late that day), awaiting feedback/response from them, and waiting for it to be sent out to their "specialists". After this lengthy process, they said they would have the bag cleaned and cover the cost (umm, shouldn't that be a given??). They then came back and said the discoloration was from denim, and suggested I stay away from wearing the bag with jeans (which I wear every day). The extremely unhelpful manager told me to "have fun with the bag! wear it with your dresses and skirts!". Unhappily, I took the bag back, and after a few weeks of being scared to take it out of the dust bag, decided to give it another go. I wore it one day with a white dress (devoid of any color, just in case). The next day, I wore it with a light grey cotton dress. And low and behold, that evening I noticed staining on the bag! I once again reached out to the store, and the response I got was essentially the same as before "Every bag that is purchased from our store has a leather care card inside for guidelines regarding light-colored bags, and dyes having the potential to crock onto them. Additionally, we have further instructions on our website for care and maintenance. We address care instructions with purchase due to this potential crocking being increased with a white bag. This is the nature of a white item's affinity to coloration." So basically: I cannot wear this bag with jeans. I cannot wear it with dresses. My question for Kempton & Co. is, what can I wear it with!? Do yourself a favor: avoid this store. They have cute, unique style but the quality is abysmal and the customer service even worse.

So to avoid this, we decided to invest in our first luggage pieces and Away brand was a top contender due to their lifetime warranty. There are some very poor reviews in particular to this store location in Williamsburg so I was hesitant to stop by but I really needed to see the luggage size in person before dropping 1k on 2 medium suitcases. Williamsburg parking is atrocious so finding parking is extremely variable at best. We arrived about 30 minutes before they closed and were graced by the parking gods and found a street parking spot a few stores down the block from the Away store. We walked in and were greeted by staff and left to inspect the stores suitcases in peace which I appreciated. I hate when sales associates breathe down your neck. It makes me not want to buy anything. But the lovely lady that was working on 9/2/23 at 6:30 pm (I forgot her name sorry) was super chill and laid back and gave customers space. We decided on the medium size flex luggage, the suitcases that offered expansion versus the classic. The boyfriend and I are over packers, thanks anxiety. We like to have wiggle room in our luggage. I also bought one of their toiletry bags. A bit pricy for a toiletry bag, but this one felt so nice and sturdy. Felt like good quality. Like you can wipe it down many times and it'll last you a long time. These cheaper toiletry bags (I've purchased many) are made of really thin materials and after awhile they become difficult to clean so you need up buying new ones of the same cheaper variety. Overall, the store was bright, clean, and everything was on display and you can touch and test out the luggage's and accessory pieces as you wished. When we made a decision we called the sales associate over and told her which pieces we wanted in what color and she went to grab them and came out with the boxes. All in all, it was a great shopping experience. Not necessarily for my wallet though! The customer service at this store was great, and I had no issues. My receipt was both printed and emailed to me for proof of purchase with future warranty claims and I appreciated having a physical and digital copy to save. I had a trip coming up and read online that Away had the best travel compression socks. I had a few…read moredays till my trip so it was nice to know that there was an Away store in Williamsburg. This was purchased in November of 2023. The store is very nice and so is the staff. I purchased the Away Compression socks and off I went. They were comfortable and worked well.. for a month. Then they developed a hole in the toe area-in both socks. I contacted Away via their website and they said that shouldn't happen so they sent a prepaid label and I was sent a new pair. A month later the new pair received another hole. I asked them if they had a stronger one? They said no they only had one type and said, " it is not normal to get a hole so soon." So they sent another pair and the 2nd one was returned. And then of course...the 3rd one got a hole again in the toe area. I looked on the site and couldn't find the socks on there so I contacted customer service and was told that they were low on stock but should have them in soon. I just checked last week and couldn't find them. Well they never came back in as the item has been discontinued. I emailed customer service and inquired about them- they said, "We don't currently offer compression socks in-store or online, but if that changes we will certainly let you know!" Now I have a hole in the 3rd pair of socks worn maybe a total of 10 times and they weren't cheap at $35 per pair. Well I don't think that this brand stands behind their products otherwise I would have gotten some sort of credit but nothing. These socks will be going in the trash where they belong. Away.. this is an appropriate name for where I will be when I need to purchase travel products in the future from this company. As an aside.. I purchased a 3 pack of Conrad compression socks via Amazon and they have been working great. I have washed and rewashed them multiple times and they are still going strong. No holes, tears, or rips.
