The shop misdiagnosed the problem, replaced the wrong part, then said the replacement part was defective and replaced it again. When that still didn't fix the problem, I was told they didn't know what was wrong and that I should take the vehicle to a dealer. I later identified the problem with AI assistance, and my neighbor fixed it with an $80 part. I strongly recommend doing your homework and reading the LOWEST reviews before choosing this shop. Some customers may have had good experiences, but mine was extremely disappointing. I'm posting this so others can make an informed decision. According to AI a reputable shop will return your money. They kept my car for a couple of hours and then called me as I requested to go over repairs and costs. I was even offered a ride back to my place. To my amazement, they suggested that I still 6 months to a year and that my vehicle was safe to drive. There was no cost to their inspection. Larry and Andy both explained what my challenges could be but that I did not have to have any repairs done yet. Wow! And Andy checked my transmission fluid and said it was fine. I was told by a local oil change business to have it changed at the cost of $300. Im grateful to still find a decent local business in the automotive industry that won't pull a fast one. For the claim, I took my little Pontiac to Belmont Collision as it's right next to my apartment building and it's an ICBC-accredited valet shop. I received excellent service from all the staff at Belmont. They took care of all the paperwork involved for the claim and for my loaner car (a rental from Hertz, covered by my insurance). They arranged everything so that when I dropped off my car, the rental car and the Hertz employee were there to meet me. The work took less than a week to complete (some of the parts took longer than that to ship, but they didn't take the car in until they had most of the parts so they could start on it) and they did such a good job of everything. It honestly looked better after the repairs, and they replicated my decorative vinyl sticker so precisely that I couldn't even tell it had been replaced. The cherry on top was that my car was fully washed inside and out upon return! I was so grateful for that. If my car ever gets banged up again (knock on wood) I will bring it here for sure.

If a busy shop can handle a simple fix without drama, it's hard to justify staying with Belmont. After two decades of loyalty, I'll no longer use Belmont. My partner won't either. I'll be warning friends and family: if you want dependable service and respectful treatment, go somewhere else. I brought in my car to have the steering fixed, and they forgot to replace the panel underneath the steering column. Unfortunately due to its location I never noticed until much later. A year later I brought it in to have a windshield wiper motor replaced, it was replaced but misaligned, and the wiper arc didn't cover some of the windshield. I brought it in again to have that fixed and the transmission looked at, as the transmission was starting to experience issues. They told me it might be fixed by replacing the transmission fluid, which they did, but they charged me for fixing the windshield wiper misalignment, which was their mistake to begin with! Finally, two weeks after they replaced the transmission fluid, the transmission failed completely. I'm a bit resentful about this, I feel a mechanic should know that a transmission problem (one severe enough to render the car eventually undrivable after two weeks) couldn't be solved by just replacing the fluid. They replaced the transmission, and it works fine now, but: - The steering wheel cowling wasn't fastened properly, and slid down to block the gas pedal while my wife was on the highway. - They replaced the clutch, despite it being only a year old and my requesting they not do that during the estimate. - When I brought their attention to the panel missing from underneath the steering wheel (which they had neglected to replace from the steering job) the mechanic just shrugged and said he had noticed it missing from the 'bad' job done on the steering, completely oblivious that it was their previous work. - They charged me again for new transmission fluid. Admittedly I don't know if the fluid can be retained or not, but given the cost of replacing the transmission + their faulty assumption about the new fluid fixing things to begin with, it just felt like a poke in the eye.
