I've always loved the hush puppies here. An appetizer order of 8 puppies costs $5. It's happy hour, so all appetizers are 30% off. I ordered 2, and we finished them off before we left. They are formed out of flour, cornmeal, and buttermilk, then deep-fried. These are not the least bit greasy, and dang I want to have some more now. If a restaurant serves a shrimp poboy and I don't like it, we cannot be friends. Fortunately, this is an amazing shrimp poboy. The shrimp are meaty, and fried to crispy perfection. As with the hush puppies, there is not the slightest feeling of greasiness. I never appreciated before how great this chewy New Orleans style French bread is. It's not often that I think about how good the bread is when I'm eating a sandwich. My daughter loved the chicken fingers, which look nothing like fingers. They are the shape and size of a chicken wing, which is pretty cool. As with all dishes, it includes a generous helping of fries that taste like they were freshly cut from a potato, and not defrosted from a bag in a freezer. I will have to come back for the dessert. If I'm going to ruin a diet, I'll do it with pecan pie and pralines. Totally worth it. Our server was also the bartender. I think she also had to go into the kitchen to help prepare sides and plates. Despite that, the service was excellent. And, through it all, she kept her cool, despite the fact that it seemed like she hardly stopped moving. She kept everything running smoothly. And, I would be remiss if I didn't mention how my heart skipped a beat when I walked into the main dining area. I've only been to New Orleans once, 10 years ago, but seeing that transported me back.
