I've been going for years and have noticed throughout the years they have done many things to help alleviate the "hurry up and wait" mentality that it use to have. The guy that's in the waiting area when you first get there is so friendly and informative. He's always super nice and willing to answer any questions you may have. Also, the ladies in the back are always smiling and friendly which is nice for those of us that don't mind being there. The addition of the shuttle for the jurors to and from the courthouse is the best idea they've ever come up with because that train is a pain in the you know what when trying to get back from a break on time. It also makes it avoidable to walk under the overpass where the homeless population love to hang out. Actually it seems like they may have cleaned that overpass up because I looked and didn't see any out there this time around. I love the many options available for food during your breaks. That is my favorite aspect of serving. There are so many new and exciting places to eat just on 18th and 19th streets alone. If you choose to venture farther there are even more! Just remember that it is your civil duty to serve and take it a day at a time while there and you will be just fine.

Without going into too much personal details, I have had to build my own family law case and the office was incredibly helpful in providing materials which included step-by-step instructions and even diagrams on how to complete each page along with each step in the process. They also review your paperwork when complete and will mark any errors and I feel they went above and beyond each time in not only answering my questions about paperwork but providing me with guidance through the next steps. The Clerk's office has also been incredibly helpful on several occasions. I have both filed and ordered paperwork through them and each time has been a positive experience. Each assistant is not necessarily the most warm and welcoming, but they always provided me with the correct information and when I ordered endorsed paperwork, I got it that same trip. They also have family mediation, child support and family law cases heard here. Some are in the courtroom, some are in a mediation setting. Overall, while intimidating and often not the most welcoming environment, the courthouse as served its purpose in my and others' lives I have been there with and as long as we followed instructions and asked questions, we accomplished what we were there to do.

As a former member of a law enforcement agency, I am pretty well versed in what law enforcement…read moreofficers (sworn and unsworn public servants) can do, should do, and are expected to do. Throughout the last months of 2024, every single person I have spoken with about our local law enforcement support has said very very negative things about response time, courtesy, professionalism (when and if they were dispatched and finally arrived). To me, this is more than sad. It is unacceptable conduct on behalf of those involved in receiving calls for assistance - from any "public servant" in any capacity. Especially since those they "serve" pay their salaries!!!!! Law enforcement was developed to uphold the sacred CONSTITUTION of the United States of America - not withstanding the Preamble to the Constitution. Anybody read that lately? "...In order to form a more PERFECT union...establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, secure the blessings of liberty to OURSELVES and our posterity, do ORDAIN and establish this Constitution for the United States of America..." My Dad, an unsung, incredibly humble late critically injured U.S. Army foot soldier fought against EVIL, tyranny, injustice, genocide, and pure hate - all to allow us the freedoms (that only come from protecting them) that we now have...but I ask you...for how much longer??? How much longer will we be granted our freedoms (supposed to be protected by laws and it follows, law enforcement) if they are not reasonably enforced and protected??? How much longer? What is this county, city, country, and world to become if corruption, lawlessness, insurrection, discrimination, hate, and unwillingness to enforce and uphold our laws meant to preserve our way of life, last??? Ask yourselves! Think about it! Really! And last, but not least, WHAT kind of legacy are we leaving (our example) as to what is acceptable conduct for generations to come? Are they even going to have a safe, decent, quiet, clean country and TRUSTWORTHY government (which includes law enforcement agencies) to look to for assistance and help in times of trouble? What will they have? Tell me, please! WHAT WILL THEY HAVE??? Are we "...Pledging our allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic, for which it stands...ONE NATION UNDER GOD...INDIVISIBLE...WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL...??????" ARE WE?????

Big Library While visiting family in Bakersfield, we decided…read moreto stop by the Beale Memorial Library. I'm used to the smaller neighborhood libraries in Los Angeles, so walking into this one was honestly kind of shocking, in a good way. It's a very big library with two full floors, and it felt much busier than the libraries I usually visit. There were people studying, using computers, and families spending time there, which made the place feel really active and useful for the community. Parking and First Impressions The library itself has a small parking lot, but we actually found parking right away on the street directly in front. When we walked in, I went straight to the front desk to ask about study rooms because I had an important meeting coming up. The staff told me the rooms were upstairs, so I headed up there and eventually found the smaller desk where you sign in and someone helps you get a room. It took a minute to figure out exactly where to go, but once I found the right spot, the process was simple. Study Rooms That Saved the Day The main reason I came was for a quiet place to take a meeting, and I was really grateful they had study rooms available. They're first come, first served, and luckily there were two open when we arrived. The room we used was very small and only allowed two people. It had a simple setup, a small table and two chairs, but it was clean and did exactly what we needed. I was able to sit in there with my sister during my meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half. Personally, I think one person would study more comfortably in that space, but two people definitely fit and it worked great for us. Great Spaces for Families and Kids One thing I really liked was how family friendly the first floor was. There's a kids' section and even a little play area, which my son and nephew really enjoyed while the rest of us were there. It felt welcoming for families and not just quiet studying. It's nice to see a library that makes space for kids to explore and enjoy being there too. A Busy Second Floor for Studying and Computers The second floor seemed more focused on adults studying and using computers. There were quite a few people up there working, which gave it more of a focused study vibe. There are a lot of stairs to get upstairs, but they also have an elevator, which makes it accessible for everyone. Overall Experience Overall, I had a really good experience here. The library is much larger than what I'm used to, and it clearly offers a lot to the community. I especially appreciated the study rooms since many libraries I've visited don't have them unless you're at a college campus. It ended up being the perfect place for me to take an important meeting while my family and my son enjoyed the library. I'd definitely come back when I'm visiting Bakersfield again.
