ARS installed my current HVAC system about 6 1/2 years ago and it's been a descent system working…read moreas expected. Once they get ahold of you ARS inundates their past customers with emails and mailing to get a "tune-up". After a number of years, I decided to have one of their techs come out and evaluate the system. I was also curious as to what a HVAC "tune-up" entailed. When I called, I was confronted with their "AI Assistant". I was surprised because in the past I had always talked with a human. I found this off putting from the start my feelings being that ARS didn't consider me important enough to actually have an employee talk with me. I was told that any appointment I made would have to be within a block of four hours in the morning or afternoon. I made the appointment and blocked off the required time period. The technician showed up about 90 minutes into the four-hour period. He was a young man, very knowledgeable and helpful. He explained all that he did as he went along examining both the inside and outside units. He then reported what he found which was comprehensive. He left and I went about my business. Access to the inside portion of the HVAC system in this house is through the ceiling of the walk-in closed attached to the master bedroom. I only went into that closed once that evening and had no reason to look up at the ceiling. Early the next morning, I noticed that the tech had not replaced the ceiling panel for access to the attic and it remained open. I want to emphasize that this complaint is directed not primarily to the tech but to the management of ARS. This young man made a mistake and should be counseled. My complaint is with the management's response when I called to report what had happened. I expected a prompt response and corrective action. I didn't get it. I do possess a five-foot ladder and attempted to gain entry to the closed ceiling. I put the ladder under the ceiling opening and climbed to the top step. While I was able to reach around and touch the panel, I was not tall enough to reach around, grasp it and have leverage to reinstall it. I could not replace the panel myself. I am 80 yrs. old and should not be up any ladders anyway. I called ARS expecting some sympathetic and speedy resolution to the issue. I got none other than through the "AI Assistant" was told they would send a tech out that afternoon again during the four-hour period. I was also told they would not charge me for returning. That was nice of them. What I expected, based on past dealings with contractors over many years, was a speedy resolution, someone out right away even if a member of management had to do it. My problem was compounded by having an appointment also during the four-hour ARS required period with an appliance repairman to evaluate a noise coming from my refrigerator. Moving the refrigerator would block access to the bedroom and hence, the closet. I called ARS again and, through the "AI Assistant", requested that a human call me and let me know if there was any idea when during the four hours their tech would be there so I could, if necessary, coordinate with the appliance tech. AI said I would receive a call; I never did. About 45 mins. after my last call to ARS, my neighbor, who is taller than me arrived home. He graciously attempted to and was just able to grasp the panel and reinstall it. As noted above, my complaint is not primarily against the tech. We all make mistakes, especially when young. We learn more from our mistakes than our successes. The problem here is with management at ARS which is, in my view, clueless and fundamentally incompetent. They should have at least called to make sure the matter had been solved. They never have. To begin with, first contacts are vitally important. By using AI, as I note above, they are saying that you are not important enough to talk to when you first contact them. By not having an immediate human guided response to a relatively easily solve issue, their failure to respond and follow through evinces continuing contempt for their customers. I have since received two email requests from ARS to evaluate their performance saying my opinion is important to them. No, it's not! That is just a lie.
