NJ Deli on a budget- Just Subs Greenbrook Rt22 Eastbound. This deli moved locations 100 yards off rt 22 to directly behind their old location. Clean restaurant, unless you look closely behind the displays and one will notice continual tertiary cleanings that don't really quite do the job. Friendly staff, laid back to the point of long lines forming at lunchtime - as opposed to a usually well staffed Jersey Mikes. Food: bread is dry, dry, dry! And tasteless - bad bread being a cardinal sin in a NJ Deli. Much preferred is a local, real Italian deli, for better bread. Second rate Dietz & Watson cold cuts served as opposed to much more desirable Boars Head. Cold cuts thin, can barely taste amongst the dry bread and LTO/ dressings. The oil they use is not only cheap but offensively BAD Final assessment: While their quality is low, they hiked a ham and cheese sandwich up to $8.15! I say raise your level of deli expectation and spend the money on a real deli and skip the Just Subs Chain. There are plenty of Italian delis around. Just Subs - it's all in the name. 90-95% of their business is just subs. All the time, repetitive. I ordered 1/2 sub and requested mayo. That's it. No other deviations. I should have read the reviews before I visited this location! I have been to the "Just subs in Greenbrook" several times. The first time the sandwich was amazing. Everything was fresh & I liked that they use good quality meats. I typically drive about 25 minutes to this location, which I don't mind if the service & food is worth it. About a month ago, my & husband I agreed that the bread didn't taste fresh on a sandwich we ordered. We decided to let it go. This was our first time ordering a wheat roll & thought maybe that was the reason. Yesterday, My daughter & I purchased turkey and cheese sandwiches on a regular roll. She took the first bite of her sandwich and mentioned that the bread was stale. I also had the same issue with mine. So I decided called the location just to inform the manager, to make him aware for future customers. I spoke to Mike the owner/manager and instead of him being open to hearing my concern he was nasty, rude, curt, and insisted that I wasn't telling the truth because the bread was fresh. I really don't know how to explain my love for this place. It is not fancy, but so freaking good and I think they put crack in their onions. I frequent Just Subs about 3x a month. I always get the same thing: half whole wheat, honey roasted turkey, white american cheese with everything except oil & mayo. Like the name, the food and the process of ordering said food is simple. This is just subs, and the establishment does a great job at making them. I came during lunch hours about two weeks ago and had a great time. The line looked long but the staff worked quickly and efficiently to make sure everyone got to order and eat in a timely fashion. Walked in fifteen minutes before closing to four boys standing around doing NOTHING but was given major attitude because they had to "put the slicer back together." I was under the impression that if you go by a business's hours of operation, as long as you show up within that time frame it shouldn't be perfectly fine. This place is never packed no matter the time I drive by (Starbucks is next-door) so I don't think they can afford to turn away business. They definitely lost me though. The Marinara for the meatball sub is horrible, They should just use jarred Ragu or something comparable. The Chili is waaaaaaaaaaaay too thick! Its like dog food consistency. It tastes ok. It was my first time at this place. I called in to order and whoever answered the phone was so rude. I asked him about a sub on the menu and asked what kind of cheese was on it. He laughed at me and then proceeded to list all of the different cheeses they had.. not necessary. He could've nicely given a couple of options. He did the same thing with condiments.
