I have gotten two healthy dogs that have lived longer than 10 years from his store. 1. Let's say the police or aspca shuts down a Maryland puppy mill they find in the area and the pound or shelters are FULL and will euthanize any new animals they receive. (including puppies) INSTEAD... Just puppies purchases them gives them veterinary care and ensures their health to give puppies a better chance...HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING... then maybe all the assumptions and accusations about puppies coming from the mills are true. BUT I don't see how this business is the villain because where there is demand there will eventually be supply. If someone is a breeder full time and they sell puppies and make a living off of it they are somehow better than a business (freestanding store) that does the same? If you don't want tp support this business then, well, don't! but don't write crappy reviews if you don't have your facts in order because then YOU BECOME the hypocrite because you never received services from this business. ****Health guarantee was great, two healthy dogs, great caring staff who were sad and happy to see me adopt my puppy. Back in the day my friends and I use to swing up Route 1 to Hard Times cafe and eat 10 cent wings. Then with our bellies full of BBQ sauce and bleu cheese, we'd head on down to Just Puppies to pick up and play with the little guys. Well, it's true when they say you can never go back. The Hard Times cafe was destroyed and replaced by a bank, and the Just Puppies is a sad, depressing shell of what it once was. You were once able to open up any cage and take out a puppy. They you could walk it over to a small play area and have it run about for a bit. Or if the rooms were filled, you could simply hold the puppy in your arms. Then they locked up all the cages and you needed permission to pick up a puppy. Now, you need to give your photo ID to handle a puppy. The end result is that the puppies are getting petted and handled a lot less often, leaving them whimpering and longing for attention. Add to this the dog pee on the floor around the cages and you're left with a pretty depressing place (and depressing yelp review!). Whatever was once good about this place is long gone. I've know the owner for years and I love the supply of puppies. It is very smart to have a place to get to know each breed befor you buy.

Unknowingly, I bought a dog here two years ago. He later developed Giardia and an ear infection. Was treated for it, but it was a pretty penny paid to the vet who diagnosed him and prescribed meds for him to take. He pooped in his crate, because he didn't know that crates are not meant to be used as a potty station. It was ridiculously hard to train him! Anyway, after learning of where these puppies came from, I was saddened to know that Bandit came from a puppy mill - no doubt about it. No breeder who actually cares for their animals would sell to a pet store. The breeders don't know who's buying their puppy, what kind of home it will go to, what kind of life it's going to have, etc. If you're looking for a puppy, try adopting or find a breeder. Go to the breeder's home and look at the parents of the puppy. Make sure your new baby comes from a clean and healthy environment. This is like insurance that your baby will have a long healthy life. Of course, it's not 100% guaranteed, as with anything, but it lowers the demand for pet stores selling dogs, and can eventually put puppy mills out of business. Look it up [puppy mills] on Google or YouTube - that should be enough for you to not to purchase a puppy from here. Yeah, it's convenient to go in there and get a puppy, but is it convenient to be cleaning poop out of their crate everyday, and running up unnecessary vet bills? DONT SHOP HERE! Dogs are not pure bred-proven on channel 11. Dogs are from puppy mills...they say they are USDA approved... USDA=livestock standards. Dogs are not livestock and puppy mills treat their animals like or worse than livestock. 1 female can give birth to at least 100 puppies in her lifetime. Its so sad. My dog was from just Puppies. I got him from a lady at work. He has MANY health problems, club feet, under bite, behavioral problems and the list goes on. Please, do not go here. Also do not go to "breeders" in Pa. Okay, just to clear everything up. I DO NOT work for the store. First of all, breeders WOULD sell their puppies to a pet store because like us, they also need to make money. I know it's sad that they are in crates, but it also goes that way in Animal Hospitals. Where else would you keep the dogs!? And also, like babies, obviously puppies do not know where to poop, they are too young and employees do not have time to train them yet. And I can guarantee, that certain (Just Pup stores at least) do not get their puppies from puppy mills. They do get them from breeders. Also, I hope you know it doesn't matter where you find puppies, there are some diseases that whether from a breeder or not, they will contract certain diseases. I mean, don't WE get certain diseases/sickness also? Regarding able to just take out puppies. I know that was so much fun and I personally loved it too!! But, stores only started doing that because people were STEALING the puppies and selling it for their own profit. Imagine owning a business, and having someone steal a $2,000 item. Also the condition of the store, I will not defend that, because if a store is dirty, I would totally understand something is wrong. But I just hope you guys understand that with so many customers there, it's quite difficult to clean up so quickly. I LOVE animals and I want to be a vet, so please don't think I don't care about the health. I love them, but I want you guys to think realistically before you guys make all these assumptions. I bought my male Cairn Terrier puppy here 3 years ago and I don't regret my terrier but I do regret where I got him from. When I look at his papers he came with I know he was from a puppy mill! Ever since I got him we always acts cage crazy, jumps in circles and barks like someone is hurting him. I will never buy another dog form here, I have gone there about twice since I got my terrier and ever time I ask: Where do you get your puppies? they say private breeders in the area, but my dog came from Missouri aka a puppy mill in Missouri. Also allot of their puppies are parasite ridden, when I took my dog in for the free vet visit at a VCA vet I saw 2 other dogs that a man got from Just Puppies and both pups had been coming to that vet for over 2 weeks with parasite issues and one also had kennel cough. I really liked going to this place just to look but when I found out this place only has parasite ridden and unhealthy living conditions, I saw poop on some of the cage floors and the pups were stepping on it. Also when I got my dog there was 2 Siberian puppies in one cage and they were fighting, one was normal the other was skinny and sluggish, it looked like the bigger pup had been getting all the food and the skinnier pup was just taking the biting. My mom took the skinner pup into the playroom just to give him a break. after about 15mins the employee said its time for him to go back in his cage, or are you going to buy him? my mom said "no we just wanted to give him a break the other husky is really beating up on him" and there were about 20 empty cages but she put the skinny pup back in the cage with the other husky and he continued to beat bite and nip on him. So we told another employee and all she said was OH! so my mom and I got our new pup and left and haven't been back since. My mom was so devastated that she wanted to buy every pup in the store just to save them from this hell! STAY AWAY! read more

I worked at Just Puppies for 2 years. Managed a store. I can tell you, of all the puppy stores I have ever been inside, Just Puppies is the best. The staff all care for the puppies immensely. Many puppy stores are supplied by puppy mills, but not that one. read more

I used to work at the Just Puppies both in Laurel and Rockville, and honestly none of you know what you are talking about. The puppies do not come from a puppy mill, and I know personally that the owner goes and meets with all of the breeders with a vet and hand picks the puppies that he wants to sell. If the puppies don't pass the vet check they are not even brought to the stores. That store would be cleaned for four hours every morning before customers were even allowed to come into the store, and half of the smell is because customers would take the puppies into the playrooms and let them go to the bathroom all over it and not clean it up. Yeah they sound like they would be great pet owners to me. You used to be able to take the puppies out yourself and take them to the playrooms. But too many morons would not close the cage doors and cause another puppy in the cage to fall out, or even better you would let your 3 year old kid carry the puppy which would result in the puppy being dropped or hurt because the parent doesn't have enough common sense to not let this happen or to supervise their children with the puppies. One woman even left her kid in the playroom by itself with her young son (even though there are plenty of signs stating that children must be supervised in the playroom with the puppies) and her son kicked the dog until it broke it's leg. Yet the mother was too busy talking on her cell phone to even watch. "They are a Class B dog dealer, which means they also sell pets and pet parts to laboratories." You are a moron and have no idea what you are talking about, I don't even know how you managed to pull that out of your a$$. I don't think there's any problem with the way the store was run, in fact I thought that we should have had a screening process for who was allowed to purchase a puppy. I can't even tell you how many puppies were taken home and brought back either because the person changed their mind and didn't want to deal with the time it takes to train a puppy or because they didn't properly take care of the puppy and brought them back half dead. I have two dogs that I brought home from the store, and my mom has one that are perfectly healthy. So really who is doing more harm to the puppies? read more

Do not buy from them people. They are supplied by puppy mills. I bought my redbone from them years back not knowing about Puppy Mills and she had all sorts of health problems. I never contacted them because I chose to weather it out with her and to give her the life she deserves. Just do your homework on puppy stores. Buy from a reputable breeder who let's you see the mother and father and does their very best to maintain healthy animals. Total bills for her was 7K plus. Now tell me which is more cost-effective? Buying from a reputable breeder where you would pay 500 or more then buying from a puppy store at 450.00. Just do your homework people! read more

The employees at Just Puppies in Towson, Maryland are all very nice, but that does not make up for the wretched condition of the animals they keep. It is quite obvious that this store is only a clearing house for puppy mill breeders. What is worse though, are the vets who allegedly provide health care for the puppies. These "professionals" administer drugs and vaccines of questionable value-- sometimes more than once or twice to babies who weigh less than 3 pounds. I just rescued my third Pekingese from there last week---a very sick little fellow who has had to be treated for a severe bronchitis infection, and nearly died. His breeder first had his hernia operated on & castrated him at 8 weeks old, ..... and then shipped him to Just Puppies. He spent the next 21 days there in a small cage where he was handled by hundreds of visitors, and was fed in that same cage where he also dedicated. I am only getting started here. My next mission is to make certain that everyone involved in this sick business will get what they deserve, and possibly a chance to live in hell in the next life. read more

It doesn't matter if these puppies are cute or even if they are healthy. They are all from puppy mills in Missouri. Think about their mothers who probably have had litter after litter, and are thought of as nothing but a money producing machine. The only way to shut down these mills is to stop buying puppies from places like this. If they have no where to sell their "goods" they will stop producing them. Just ask the owner of this store to show you a picture of the breeding facility where the puppy you are about to buy came from. See what they say. Or see what state the dog came from. There are plenty of breeders right here in this state of whatever breed you're looking for. Ask the owner of the store why he would ship a 8 week old puppy half way across the country instead of getting the puppy from a breeder a hour away. He won't tell you but I will. No breeder who cares about their dogs would ever sell to this store. Get answers to these questions and then see if you still want to support this final link in a chain of cruelty and abuse to these animals. read more
