I think this is a fine PetSmart location, which is conviently located in a shopping strip with other businesses so one can run multiple errands in one trip. This location works well for me/us (if you count the doggie) because it's probably the closest one to my place. I thought this PetSmart was well-stocked for doggie supplies. Overall, I thought this PetSmart is very well-organized becasue it was pretty easy to find the things that I needed - and many things that I did NOT need ;). While many of the items are priced a bit higher compared to what you might find online (as one would expect), I didn't think the prices were THAT bad. Also, this PetSmart has a lot of things (toys, food, treats) that are on clearance, so you do not have to spend an arm and leg on various items. During my two visits, I thought the customer service was very professional because the staff will go out their way to help customers find what they need. Unfortunately, I was not expecting to spend 20 minutes in line to purchase my items during my last visit. However, I think this wait was due more to a certain type of customer than the PetSmart workers. By "certain type", I mean the ones that put a bunch of stuff in their baskets and argue about the prices at the registers. read more

This PetSmart has been a lifeline for me. I use a specific type of liter box for my cat and can never find the liter I need at their competitor. So much so that I usually just come here as this location always has a liter that I can use. I usually always do the same thing when I'm in here. I go check out the cats up for adoption, but I always plan this for after adoption hours or I might end up with another cat. Then I make my way back to the cat section, grab my liter and then browse through the rest of the cat stuff. I will take my time and usually go down the aquarium aisle, but never buy there either. Make my way to the register and I always seem to get the same employee there. She is always nice and has the best customer service. I always end up purchasing whatever they have going for the nearby shelter and then be on my way. read more

I brought my 135-pound Newfoundland in to have some clumps removed. Michael worked on him for hours. He told me afterwards (and I believe it) that he shampooed the dog three times, and had him soak in conditioner for 10 minutes. Dog looked gorgeous when I returned. The paws were nicely shaped. Claws were clipped perfectly. (hard to do as the claws are black and it's easy to clip them too far). There was a Pet Smart handkerchief around his neck (this is difficult -- the dog's neck is huge). The charge was $25 less than I was originally quoted. Michael does excellent work, and it is clear that he loves dogs. We will definitely be asking for Michael again whenever he needs a trim. read more

Pro: big parking lot, has a vet place, groomers, variety of pets to buy, host pet adoption event. Con: price of items. A good local store that we go to buy whimzees for our dog. There store also has a vet area and they also offer groomers which can be hit or miss. We took our dog one time for the groomer with an older lady and had a good experience. All in all a ok place to shop for pet supplies. read more

I'm only giving one star when they really deserve zero. But management was very nice. But I took my dog for a grooming to this location due to the one near me being booked. His appointment was 9:30am. They had my dog until 12pm. Toye Wright, groomed my dog and had him looking crazy. I have had my dog for 8 years and NEVER has he been stressed, he was drooling excessively, nails were NOT cut, private area was NOT cut, legs weren't trimmed and he had a mane that was NOT asked for. I told them to cut him down to a #5 which is a little longer than the #7 I usually do. I paid extra money for the new "luxury" service and have NOTHING to show for it, no pumpkin shampoo and no bandana. Management did refund my money, which I am really happy about, so my issue is not with them. What makes things worse, I had tipped Toye prior to me seeing my dog since they were very busy and I just wanted to get my dog and go. I requested my money back and Toye declined it. I only noticed how bad his cut was when I walked out. But since Toye said my dog was stressed the whole time and drooling, I didn't want to take him back inside. I will be talking to corporate about my experience. I had to take my dog to the Petsmart in Laurel, so that they can better assist my dog! Even the worker at that location was confused on Toye's "work". I will NEVER go back to the Petsmart in Silver Spring and I will make sure EVERY one knows not to have Toye Wright touch or even look at their pet! read more

I came to pick up an aquarium I bought online on Thanksgiving Day for Black Friday pickup. I had to ask 3 people about the pickup order before I was finally matched with someone who could help me. The employee was friendly, patient, and efficient. He helped to transport the tank and stand from a cart to our rental truck. Since it was just a pickup, I did not interact with the cashier. My interaction with the employee who helped us was very positive. I did not catch his name, but kudos to him! read more

I take my dog here for a bath, brush and nail trim. They did a wonderful job and the service was rather quick, in the allotted time frame. They even asked if my dog had any sensitivities and took special care to address them. We've never had a problem here and been clients over the last 8 years. We're even bringing our puppy in this week. read more

AWFUL FISH SECTION SERVICE. INSANELY BAD. HANDS DOWN WORST FISH SECTION IN THE LOCAL AREA. Three employees in the fish section argued with me for 15 minutes and then refused to sell me 5 moor GOLDFISH because they were sure they knew my tanks better than me. I spend hundreds of dollars a month on aquarium supplies, frequenting all the fish stores in the area. I run hundreds of gallons of planted and carefully maintained tanks at home, and these three employees all kept backing each other up and making excuses while refusing to sell me FIVE GOLDFISH. I don't know but it really felt as though they were prejudiced against me because of how I looked or something, or they were lying to avoid doing their job, or maybe just didn't want to sell to me to prove some point? Or maybe there's some upsale instruction they've been given where they're not allowed to sell fish without also selling people an entire new aquarium every time? I really don't know, but that's what it felt like. Lost my business forever, and again, that's hundreds a month in fish supplies. I asked so many questions and they were tripping over each other and contradicting themselves as they kept thinking of more reasons not to sell to me. Insanely awful, worst service I've ever seen trying to buy fish. Pretentious to the point of refusing to do their jobs. read more

We recently got a cavachon and wanted to prepare ourselves before he came home. I ordered alot through Amazon but I still need to touch and feel and see things in person. The store was easy to navigate after I got the hang of it. Yes...first time dog owner here so don't be too hard on me. We ended up picking a crate, food, a collar and some other odds and ends. Btw my dog is not a hug fan of the chicken flavored Kong treats. He has been eating crunchy treats that I still put in the Kong toy. This store is comparable to Chewy's website and can be an alternative if you need something immediately. While some of the food stock was low or empty...I still got close to what I needed. And the nurse that helped me was very knowledgeable. I didnt have a bad experience here but I will proceed with caution if we do grooming. read more

When I had a dog I had a different opinion. Now that I come into PetSmart for fish, or other reason I am usually very disappointed with the service! Staff very seldom know about the products. You buy products but they do not stock the replacement or accompanying refills. I just called about why they have signs up about not currently selling fish. They need to be treated was what I was told. And when I followed up with a question about fish, he did not know (totally okay) but did not offer to get someone who could (not okay). I come into a place like this for advice as much as to spend money. How can you be PetSMART and not know about Pets other than cats and dogs???? NOTE: I just learned PetSmart is NOT BBB accredited. Big parking spaces, giod ventilation insode the store, mostly lots of animal's food and somewhat poor customer service, it seems that almost every employee is doing their own thing in a non professional way. I went in there today with an intention of buying a turtle so i asked one of the ladies who works there about the turtles and she said sorry i can't help you !! Im helping some one else!!! So i waited a good 10 minutes and she was just cleaning the aquariums and not helping anyone else. I ended uo getting tired and left.. This review is for the store, not the groomers. I don't buy my dog's kibble here, but I often stop in for canned food. She's picky; she won't eat her kibble dry. My only requirement for canned food is that it contains no by-product. I don't want my little one eating strange body parts. They have a plethora of brands to choose from. On my last visit I found the type I buy at Harris Teeter on sale here for $0.99 a can! I bought all that they had left, and no, it wasn't expired. I checked. The employees are friendly and seem like they like dogs. I love saying, "Awwww," at all the cute pooches shopping with their human mommies and daddies. I don't bring my little one because I usually make a Kohl's and Target run while I am here. Very convenient for the multi-tasking working pet parent. read more

Brianna, who groomed him, was very nice, but definitely lacked experience. This particular location is hit or miss. Sometimes the staff is super friendly, and willing to share information about the types of pets being sold. They'll talk to you about different toys, food, temperaments/needs, and cages/tanks for your desired pet. The amount of items they carry is rather extensive. Other times they're rude, unhelpful, and borderline arrogant. If someone asks a question about a certain species that would be obvious to someone who knows about it, then MAYBE the person asking the question doesn't know. MAYBE the person asking the question is new to this. MAYBE the employee should actually try helping, instead of using it as an opportunity to be an arrogant prick. Just saying. read more

So when her parents drop your granddaughter off for a visit on their way home from Ocean City and she is accompanied by a sand crab in a tiny cage, where do you head? Hopefully PetSmart will have what you need to make "Sandy" more comfortable. Sure enough they had a section of sand crab accessories including "habitats", food, water, bowls, heaters and anything else you never knew you needed. The staff person was extremely helpful. She explained they were moving things around in the store but she found the display for us. We also have 4 dogs so we have bought plenty of supplies, toys, treats and food. PetSmart does not sell cats or dogs, but they are very active in supporting pet adoption, hosting events and fostering cats and kittens. read more

Petsmart groomers suck!! They cut my dogs neck and tried to cover it with a bandana and never mentioned it to me. I found it when my dog kept scraping his neck with his paw. I thought I got away from Petsmart's sub-standard customer service when I switched from the Bethesda location to the Calverton/Silver Spring location, but I was wrong. At Bethesda, a manager at the Pet Hotel defended his sociopathic associate after she refused to feed my dog for five days while I was in the Dominican Republic. Her excuse was the food I provided was "rotten," and I elected to not use the food provided by the store. Nobody contacted me, they just starved my dog. Now, after bringing my dog to the grooming salon at Calverton for years with no problem, in April, an entitled groomer named Cynthia cut off my schnauzer's beard after reading the instructions on his account which state, "Do Not touch his beard," not even to trim. She acknowledged the notes with me prior to receiving him and did what she wanted anyway. Then when trying to make an appointment for him in June with another groomer, an associate named Jairo and Renee played games on the phone stating that they are both managers and that my dog can only be groomed by the salon manager, Shi. Shi has groomed my dog before with no problem, but now suddenly, she says none of the other groomers want to work with my dog, coincidentally after the appointment where a groomer cut off his beard, and I was given a full refund. When pressed for details, Shi danced around the issue and refused to answer any of my questions or explain the shenanigans with Jairo and Renee. When I told her I already filed a complaint with the corporate office, she abruptly said one of the groomers told her my dog tried to bite them. Lies! Somehow, everyone forgot to mention this important detail in the four years I've been bringing him to the salon. I have yet to hear back from the corporate office. No need. There is nothing they can say or do to regain my business - like they care... Now, I know the poor customer service and lack of integrity demonstrated by this company have nothing to do with location - it starts at the top. read more

I wouldn't come here for the training classes. The trainer just talks at the class and doesn't interact with the dogs and has outdated training practices. I didn't feel like me or my puppy were going to learn anything. I asked for a refund after the first class. read more

Ah, where to start? Maybe the inability of the staff to book me over the phone, telling me to go online to book a grooming appointment? Nah, that's not it. Maybe the fact that my wife tried to drop off our dog, while holding our newborn baby and Diamond (the groomer) couldn't be bothered to stop her conversation with her friend to assist my wife? Nope, that's common customer service for Maryland sadly. Wait! How about the fact that we called at 2:30pm (4.5hrs after initially dropping off our dog) to see the status, and we're informed that our dog still hasn't been groomed yet because she pooped in the crate and needed to be bathed again? No, we won't go down that road; the road of keeping my dog in a crate for 4.5hrs and then telling me that my dog not being groomed in a timely manner is somehow the fault of my dog who chose to be caged for 4.5hrs in her own filth. We will start at the end. The end of a 6 hour grooming session. At 2:30 I was told 30 more mins and my dog would be done. So 45 minutes later I decide to head in to pick her up without having yet received a phone call. 3:30 I arrive, a whole hour later, and Diamond is JUST starting to groom her. Great. I go pay my $65 dollar cost of grooming and decide to go sit in my car for another 20 mins. After 20 mins of staring into space and contemplating the meaning of life, I head inside because surely it doesn't take another hour to cut my dogs hair (minature schnauzer). I walk inside and what do I see? Oh just an oddly groomed mutt staring at me.. (see what I did there?) Yes, it is my dog and yes, she is ALMOST done, and no, that's not the end of the story. Diamond and another kind grooming lady are tag teaming my dog, apparently it takes two groomers to complete one hair cut in 6 hours. I look at my sweet, little pup and she looks miserable. Her beard is shaved down the center of her chin with long mutton chops of hair hanging down each side, and her eyebrows are covering her eyes with what looks to be the longest unibrow of all time. I frustratingly ask them to trim the beard because it makes no sense to have such a ridiculously looking attempt of a schnauzer face. I also ask them to trim and separate the eyebrows, "there should be two of them"( A League of Their Own quote). You would expect to hear a "oh, of course, sir" or "right away, sir" or... Anything but "well that's what your wife said she wanted." Oh hell no. You're seriously going to give me attitude? After wasting 6hrs of my life? After forcing my dog to humiliate herself by pooping in her crate because YOU left her there for 4.5hrs? After charging me $65 for the worst hair cut of all time? No, Diamond. No. You don't get to give me attitude. You should be apologizing for the horrible service you gave me and my wife, and for causing my dog emotional stress that will likely give her years of PTSD. Diamond, you were the only groomer available on a Saturday at 10am, and I just figured out why. You're a horrible groomer. You're a horrible customer service representative for PetSmart. You're a horrible person for not even having the most remote sense of guilt for the experience my family dealt with while working with you. You are not getting our business again, you even had the audacity to tell me that I should pay more for nail grinding instead of clipping because its what YOU prefer. A bit of advice, stop buying yourself expensive Hunter boots and save that money for when you're out of a job; which will likely be in the very near future given your talent (or lack thereof). "Diamond", you are anything but, your parents should have named you 1-Star because that's what you're forcing me to give PetSmart today. read more

It's not safe to only require cash payment to adopt the cats here. A credit card payment AND background checks should be included in every single pet purchase from this store. Karima is awesome! I recently relocated to the Silver Spring-Wheaton area and need to look for a groomer to give my doggy a good bath. I searched Yelp for various PetSmarts and saw that this location had great reviews. I booked my appointment online, which was simple and easy, for the upcoming Saturday. PetSmart called me Friday morning to confirm and had perfect customer service. I dropped my dog off at PetSmart and they told me to come back in 3.5 hours. The appointment lasted about 4 hours. When I returned she was wrapping up. I did light shopping to past the additional 30 minutes. Karima did an amazing job. She took very good care of my dog and she smelled wonderful. I will bring my dog back for future services. read more

Overall good service here - dog grooming section is busy and not everyone there is as patient as I would expect - but not bad experiences either. Great selection of Fish Supplies . Store personnel always helpful finding supplements , etc for my dog , so I do recommend this location. Easy to get what you need and get out. read more

Brandon at the groomer's salon was rude, condescending, and clearly does not like his job. If he treats humans with zero respect imagine how he treats your dog. Told the manager and all she said was "we are sorry." Never going there again. Stay away unless you want your day ruined and your dogs traumatized. read more

Definitely use another Petsmart location for grooming. I took my Maltese here twice and that was two times too many. The first time I took her, the services she received were great. The problem is that they tried to kidnap her. I dropped her off at 12 noon and was told the services would take about 4 hours, but they would contact me as soon as she was ready. The four hours passed but no phone call. By the fifth hour, I'm wondering what's taking so long but I figured maybe they're extremely busy seeing as its a Saturday or maybe it's taking a little longer for her since it was her first grooming. At 6:00 I'm like WTH so I call and ask about her status. Homegirl's response was "Oh she's been ready. Someone should've called you." O_o You don't say!! Second time I should've known better because Izzy started getting antsy as soon as we walked up to the entrance. Wouldn't you know it that once again I don't get a phone call letting me know my dog is ready. Oh, and as a departing gift, she came home with a flea! Good times.... read more

I am really concerned about not needing a credit background check when adopting a cat from this location. In the cat adoption area, there is a sign on the glass saying Cash pay for buying a cat. Very irresponsible of the store. How do you know the person adopting the animal isn't abusive!!?? You don't know anything about the person because you don't require any further information. Maybe review the groomer that you had, and not the whole Petsmart! anyways, I get my yorkie groomed by Bianca, and have been taking him here, to her for about 4 years. She does a fabulous job. I can't speak for the rest of them, but she is so friendly and nice to him, and does a great job at an affordable price. The last time I brought my dog to a Petsmart for any grooming service (nail clipping), he ended up being banned for life, so I wasn't putting too much faith in bringing him into this Petsmart for a bath and de-shedding treatment. Also, this would be the first bath in his 11 years that I didn't give him. I gave them fair warning about the nail clipping debacle, said a silent prayer, and left him in their hands for the next 4.5 hours. Usually, a bath and de-shedding takes about 4 hours but Spenser didn't like the hair dryer (Oops! Forgot to tell them about *that*) so he needed extra time to air dry. When I picked him up, he looked rather dapper with his bandana and he looked like he lost about 10 lbs. of fur. I was thrilled. What really blew my mind was his "report card" - "Spenser is a very sweet dog!" and "...he was super awesome for his first bath!" ...Wha? You sure you bathed the right dog? The groomers did a super job. There were a couple of spots on his belly that might've been missed by the Furminator, but I was happy to know that he was on his best behavior and that these people actually liked him. Or at least had the consideration to lie to me. read more

The grooming salon really is hit or miss. The staff has always been friendly with me and seems to genuinely like their furry clientele. Jackie in particular is talented and professional and does a great job (I really wish she was a groomer because I know she would get everything right, but she is "just" a bather.) Still, I will only bring my dogs in for a bath -- I would never consider getting the Shih Tzu clipped here. The preferred Petsmart 'do seems to be a #10 clipper for face, legs, and body with long ears and a long tail. Blech. Even though I always provide photographs of how I like my Shih Tzu clipped, I don't want to take the chance. I'll find a good groomer eventually and trim his face and paws myself in the meantime. $30 is pricy for a bath and pedicure, but pretty much the going rate. I wish they would include anals and the other "extras" that a real groomer doesn't consider "extra." I haven't been able to find a nearby self-wash, once I do I probably won't use the groomers here anymore. Jackie did a fabulous job bathing and blow drying/brushing out my Shih Tzu, but the second time I had him bathed here they (not Jackie) didn't dry him completely on parts of his body and other parts of his coat were obviously not brushed out during the drying process. The terriers have been bathed well each time. They were dried completely, nails were nice and short. The "sanitary trim" is hit or miss and there always seems to be a dew claw overlooked during the trim but I can fix that kind of stuff on my own. Attention to detail just doesn't seem to be a priority here :( Banfield is relatively expensive ($48 exam fee, 20% more than other vets I've been to for meds, etc), but it's convenient and I'm glad they are here. The vets are excellent and caring. The store has pretty much everything in stock that I've gone in for, the cashiers are not the speediest but they are pleasant, and the store is clean. read more

re: dog food pickup Used to live near this location, so it was very convenient for me. This is your typical PetSmart store and have never had any problem with them being short on supply. They have removed some items from their distribution, so I wasn't too happy about that. I'd have to say in all my years shopping at a Petsmart in the last 15 years. I've consistently received good service and products from this retail pet giant. There may have a few bad apples here and there, but that's attributed most likely from young kids who were probably part timers. Anyone here has to love pets and generally speaking most people I've dealt with that have pets generally treat treat people with respect too (keyword: generally). There are some that love their pets more and that's fine too, because I believe pets are the innocent ones. I have and will always be a huge fan of PetSmart. read more
