I have to confess... I've probably been guilty of gatekeeping this gem for years…read more I've been coming to Basilico for a long time, and yet never got around to writing the review it deserves. This week I realized it was time to share it with my Yelp family. From the moment you walk in, you're treated like family. Even if I haven't been there in months, I'm welcomed back as if I was there last week. That kind of genuine hospitality is rare. Over the years I've worked my way through just about everything on the menu. Most of the time I don't even order anymore--I simply ask, "What am I eating today?" They know what I like, and I trust them completely. Whether it's a pasta special, a wine recommendation, or something I've never tried before, they've never steered me wrong. Speaking of wine, their list is excellent. I'm perfectly happy letting them choose a bottle or glass for me, and I've discovered several favorites that way. On this visit I finally ordered the Flank Steak (Vacio de los Andes a la Parrilla), and all I can say is... wow. It was cooked perfectly, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. Honestly, it rivaled steaks I've had at restaurants that specialize in nothing but steak. One tip: if you're coming for lunch, arrive a little early. This cozy spot fills up quickly, and once you've eaten here you'll understand why. Basilico isn't flashy. More like cozy and intimate, excellent for good conversation. It's simply one of those rare neighborhood restaurants that gets the important things right--great food, wonderful people, and consistency year after year. Some places become favorites because of one great meal. Basilico became one of mine because they've been delivering them for years.

I am happy to report that going into La Fresa Francesa today, I was met with the sweetest surprise:…read morethey're expanding! Welcome to Hialeah, Burgundy & Desire. A wine boutique and gourmet market, this place is opening up next week per the owner of La Fresa Francesa. They have already started taking customers, however, and I was one of the lucky to be let inside. The place is right next to La Fresa Francesa and before the nail salon in the plaza. I think their store hours are going to be different as I was told they want to make it be open from 11 AM - 7 PM. At any rate, on verra (that's French for we will see). Cheeses, wines, and trinkets adorn the store. The prices aren't bad either. A good bottle of wine will run you give or take $20. In terms of gourmet foods, aside from the celebrated cheese, you can find meats and even pasta. Yes pasta! That one was a definite surprise for me. Anyhow, they currently have one employee named Milena and she was an absolute and complete sweetheart. She answered all my questions and helped me out. I ended up purchasing the cutest wine glasses for my boyfriend and I. Like La Fresa Francesca, the decor is très chic. There's art in the window, and well, it's attention grabbing. I do think that this place while only starting is going to be great as the staff, the service, and the selection are sure to please you as much as they pleased me. With that said, I'm definitely going back. Next time I'll finally decide on a wine to accompany my wine glasses. À la prochaine (that's French for until next time)!

Ordered their Ground Turkey Bolognese through Uber Eats, didn't take long at all…read more I wasn't really sure what I ordered haha, I quickly read the description on the menu and said this is the winner haha. Now let's talk yummies: it was great! At first I was shocked it had spice, not too much, but you do feel the hint of spice. The zucchini tasted great mixed with the ground turkey and mozzarella cheese on top. Next lunch break I will order from there once again and try something different to see if it is as good as this meal!

"Bro, there's healthy food in Hialeah.!"…read more "Que no." No, QUINOA! I noticed Quinoa Corner on Hialeah Drive from driving by, as well as yelp photos from one of the original healthy yelpers so now that I've been serious on my fitness I decided to give it a try. A grain with about 40 fewer calories and twice the protein of rice, Quinoa lets you enjoy your favorite rice and pasta dishes while still being healthy. Their menu consists of comfort staples like chicken and rice, or pancakes, but with quinoa instead. They have a fridge with freshly-made items off their menu (made for the day until they run out) and believe they can custom make an order upon request. It's a family run shop, and they took the time to go over their menu and nutritional facts. They also have a printout of calories, proteins and carbs for you to track your meal. My lunch consisted of their Thai Chicken Quinoa Bowl, consisting of well packed grains, fresh leaves, red peppers and spicy chicken & sauce. (Yes, healthy doesn't have to mean bland!) It was literally my second time trying quinoa and I loved it. Right now they're only open during lunchtime Monday to Saturday, and it's only for takeout / delivery. The owner did say they're planning to expand to have some dine-in space in around a year. More importantly, they plan to keep it in Hialeah! I can see that 5th star coming soon.

Merit that I do not think Double Luck deserves just yet. My honest review is more like 3.5 stars. The atmosphere and service were great, particularly I can say that the servers had a great attention to detail with all the tables. It felt like they came at all the right times and had a keen on instantly picking up trash from a table or dirty plates that made us feel great and well taken care of. Now onto the food, we started off with crab raccoons, and the say the least it was pretty underwhelming, and not as expected. The filling had a strong almost like cheese, filled paste, very little crab, taste, and feel. We then ordered the eardrop salad with cucumber, and I would like to say this was probably the best meal of the night and it was a salad very refreshing light great textures, a true delight. We then proceeded to order the crab fried rice along with the Hennessy chicken. The crab fried rice was good as you would expect. It's fried rice and nothing special. Nothing on this world could probably get this anywhere and have the same taste in fuel. Good size was the portion it's completely shareable with one other person which was honestly great. The Hennessy chicken was just how you would expect it like walking into a more upscale panda express. Overall, that's just how it felt like we were at a more elevated. Upscale Chinese restaurant did not really feel too traditionally Chinese just maybe a place that wants to look sexy for the Instagram photos. To be put on a top 25 restaurant in Miami with the great places and and who is I think you need to really elevate your game and stand out when it comes to the food and not just the gimmicks. I have a true soft spot for the hospitality industry so I would never give a restaurant three stars as I know how hard it is to do good and great work so I hope double luck the best and that they could truly elevate their game and come with more unique dishes.
