You turned a torturous, possibly stroke-inducing hour-walk back in 88-degree temperatures into a fifteen-minute bike ride. Thank you!! Here's the whole story: its such a simple ride to the post office and my beach bike is such a beater that I never think twice about pumping up the tires before I take off. This time was different. When the rubber rim strip started to fly off my front tire I knew I was in trouble. I biked for as long as I could but apparently, as I found out, you cannot bike on a totally flat tire. The moral of the story is threefold; first, always carry a bike pump and spare inner tube; second, if you need anything for the beach: bikes, beach chairs, umbrellas, paddle boards, or even Sun Bum products, stop by Ocean Atlantic Rentals; and, finally, if you find yourself with a flat bike tire ask for Gene and Noah.

The digital waiver process is the simplest experienced so far on our trip. The launch dock and crew were helpful and upbeat. The path to take lead us under a really cool looking covered bridge and another concrete bridge. Lots of turtles and plenty of shade. We went an hour out and then one back to the dock. There was no current and the kayaking was superb - very quiet, Carolina blue sky and plenty of laughs to motivate your strokes. Their is a water hose to rinse off the canal water before you get back in the car which we all took advantage of ( one in our party tipped over ). You pay after the trip is over and for us (five boats and six people - we paid $220. Remember to tip the teenagers

If you are reading this review, then I ASS-U-ME you are considering going Kayaking when you visit…read morethe Outer Banks. A warning to all those of you who have never Kayaked. DON'T go anywhere else. Ben Cobb is a young family man who is an EMT Fireman with all the precautions for any mishap and is an INCREDIBLE GUIDE. My girlfriend and I (we are over 60 and retired) have never Kayaked and Kathie is not a strong swimmer so she had her reservations when Ben was taking us on the Alligator River Tour. She had friends who fell in and had bad experiences when they went Kayaking; please don't let me get started on them haha. YOU WILL NOT FALL IN!! Unless you don't listen to simple instructions. "Put your foot in the middle of the boat and sit down". NO ONE FELL IN and there were 6 yr olds paddling themselves (i don't advise this} Ben had to Kayak 3 miles while towing another Kayak. He did it with pleasure. I do strongly recommend watching a few YOUTUBE videos to get acquainted with how to steer it; how to get in and out, but if you have ever been in a Canoe or Row Boat, it's not rocket science. Anyone can do it if they have a couple of ounces of coordination. You won't see any Alligators, unless you are lucky like we were. YEP. An 8 ft alligator; looked like a mom guarding her babies, on the banks barely visible. How scary right? Not at all because Ben explained in the begginging what to do. NOTHING. They don't bother you; UNLESS you don't follow simple instructions like the young girl didn't do and started paddling toward the alligator. Alligator came into the water a few feet and she got the warning. That's it. Too bad we didn't see the Black Bears that sometime hang out in the trees. I don't write reviews for my health. I love reading good reviews that paint a picture so that is what I am trying to do. If you are thinking about Kayaking then call Ben. I'm sure that there are other competent guides, but why take the chance. There is absolutely nothing he could have done to make it more exciting and enjoyable, from the protein bars, water and Gatorade to the frequent stops for an education. THANKS BEN!!!! Kathie wants to buy a tandem Kayak now. She LOVED IT!!

We had a large group so the gators we pretty quiet during the actual kayaking, but what a great experience on the river! It was beautiful being in a natural environment. It was s remote location, there was no one else on the river. Ben had a wealth of knowledge about the flora and fauna. He was extremely accommodating and so nice. I would encourage anyone to take advantage of his services.

Our instructor Megan was absolutely fantastic and we couldn't have asked for a better coach for our three kids. We really liked her approach of sharing her knowledge on all aspects including how the waves are formed, understanding impacting dynamics like wind, and the approach she took to ease our kids into it for the first time. So cool and a bit surprising to see the two older ones actually catching some waves by the end of their first lesson. We would highly recommend Outer Surf and Megan as an instructor to anyone wanting to learn to surf and have a fun time doing so. Our kids were ages 15, 14 and 7. Fantastic experience!

We happened upon this shop (via the advice of locals). Mike put it together quickly, for free, and wouldn't let us give him any money. He was not only generous, but he was a good guy. He had a gentle, easy way about him - striking up genuine conversation with all of his visitors, like he was an old friend. I recommend either of his two shops to anyone visiting the OBX. I rarely give perfect scores to businesses. They most certainly deserve it. I heard him helping other people ahead of us in line and he knows his stuff.
