I had this donut shop on my list of places to try but hadn't actually looked them up to plan a trip. On this day I was in The Dairy Godmother and noticed that Just Fine was also located there, so it was a good opportunity to try. It was a Saturday night almost 9pm and I didn't realize they were about to close. When I ordered my donut, I asked if I was getting ice cream too, should I pay separately or together and I was informed that since they were about to close, the donuts were free! And they asked if I wanted to try any others. So I got: mango tajin, chocolate cake (not pictured) and chocolate glazed. The chocolate cake was dry and didn't have much flavor. The chocolate glazed was my favorite. The donut was cakey and reminded me of some sweet treat from my childhood that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe some of the Hostess donuts? Anyway, it was really good for being a simple and plain donut. The manjo tajin wasn't bad. It's a plain vanilla cake donut with the mango and tajin in the icing. The flavors were good, but it wasn't worth me finishing. I love donuts and I love specialty donuts. While they may have some, this wasn't a place that I will include in my regular donut rotation, but I'm glad I finally got to try them. read more

I was amazed to see that even at 5:30pm in the afternoon, this cafe was still busy as ever. By the loks of it, I think more people were ordering ice cream than donuts, and it made sense on a hot day like today. There are even more people here during the morning time, and its also when they have a full supply of donits. I scarfed-up their last cherry jubilee donut and I also ordered a regular black coffee. We love just fine donuts! The donuts are truly amazing: they are loved by my non-vegan, donut-loving husband and my kid with egg and nut allergies. It's hard to check both of those boxes but Just Fine does it with warmth and kindness. They take credit card; there are two tables and a bench inside and a few benches outside. Recently developed an egg and diary allergy so had to come give this place a try! It shares a space with an ice cream spot and gives local community vibes in the space and I love it. Feels like a friendly place to bring the whole family as there were kids and singles. I tried it out today around 12pm hoping they would still have donuts and they did. Amazing customer service and even more amazing donuts. From the fruity pebbles donut to the salted caramel and sprinkle donuts, they have a loyal customer forever. The fruity pebbles and the added flavors on top really set the donuts off, they are soooo good. I considered going back in just to get more, and I already had half a dozen. Amazing Vegan dougnuts! I really like that the exception is non-vegan doughnuts on Saturday and Sunday because usually it's the other way around. I came in on a Saturday afternoon to see that a lot of the vegan doughnuts were sold out but still a good variety left. There were about 5 people in front of me but service was fast and I was in and out in 15 minutes. I got some of the classic doughnuts included a chocolate frosted and some vegan fritters. Very surprising that everything here was vegan because I couldn't tell. I would put anybody to the test that says that they can tell the difference or that non-vegan doughnuts are better. Former Texans!! Kolache alert!!! I finally found a donut shop that regularly sells kolaches, notably only on the weekends. An actual mom and pop donut spot and kolaches are just difficult to find in the DMV in general, so I did not mind going out of my way to the Del Ray neighborhood to check it out. They were only selling the sausage kolaches when I got there early afternoon. There were no brisket ones to try this time. The shape of a Just Fine kolache is not quite like some Texas ones that you would find in a Kolache Factory (longer and more forming to the shape of the sausage). I think the taste and texture of the overall kolache was good, but I think it was quite pricey for one. Though if you really want to get your kolache fix, it's out there in Alexandria. Nice and quick service getting my box of kolaches. It's a family-friendly place and I wouldn't mind coming back to try the vegan donut selection. read more

This morning, I happened upon Just Fine Donuts. I was running some errands on Mount Vernon Avenue and decided to grab a bite before heading home. I got lucky when I decided to forego McDonald's. I took a chance and drove down the street to find Bagel Uprising. I was pleasantly surprised when I landed a parking space right across the street. IYKYK. After leaving Bagel Uprising, I noticed the pretty pink boxes coming out of the establishment across the street. I'm a girl's girl, a foodie with a sweet tooth and a lover of donuts. I couldn't resist the call of the pink box. So, I crossed the street and allowed myself to indulge. In addition to a delicious-looking apple fritter, I selected two donuts (maple bacon and glazed chocolate bavarian-filled) and two savory filled pastries. I think they are called kolaches. Although there was a small line, it moved pretty fast. Also, the staff was pretty accommodating when I asked for help with my selections. Just as I plan to return to Bagel Uprising, I will return to Just Fine Donuts. Don't hesitate to meet up with friends or bring the kiddies for a tasty Saturday (or any other day) treat.
