My wife and I dove with Kyalami Charters this past Saturday and had an awesome experience from start to finish. We met friends from Down Under Dive Club in Melbourne, FL (not the other Melbourne), and everything ran smoothly right away. You drop off your gear and they load it for you. When the dives are done, they unload it too. Super easy and completely stress free. Jessica, our dive guide, and Kayla, the deckhand, were outstanding. They were organized, attentive, and made sure everyone was well briefed and comfortable for both drift dives. They also had some great extras during the surface intervals, including cold sodas, water, and fresh watermelon, which was a really nice touch. made an appointment with Emerald scuba and before I was to arrive on my trip, they were bought out by Jupiter scuba. When I went to the dock to meet the boat, nobody arrived no phone call nothing and I want to calling them up and they told me that they were cancelled all their trips for the next. Weeks. They asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I told him that I lived in California and I flew all the way out to dive with them and it was unable to, but I was going to maybe make plans to go next year and when I sent them the dates for next year got no response nothing. We took the Kyalami out to the Juno Reef Ledge for a drift dive and the water was surprisingly clear for November! Heading out we saw dolphins around the boat. Once we dropped in, there was a nurse shark and Caribbean reef sharks. The coral was of varying species and lovely. My dive guide Susan was excellent and took this video of a Goliath grouper which circled us for some time. Perhaps around 500 pounds, it's hard to tell the scale in the video. She got close enough for us to pet her. I would definitely do this dive again, the team was awesome! read more

If you are looking for a dive trip, this is the one! The crew was extremely welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. They hauled all the shit to the boat and helped haul it into the car. Knew we wanted to come to Jupiter to do our first ocean dive and could not be more pleased with our experience. The crew was hands down the best! I have wanted to certify to dive since I've been 10 years old. I just had my grandfather die so I figured I would pick up a new hobby I've always wanted to dive into. After being bounced around between 3 people with poor communication and organizing registration and payment I had Brandon tell me to go find another dive school because he was frustrated my schedule has been a bit unpredictable with having a lot of family in town to pay respects. Let's start this review with our experience with booking our first dive with Kyalami's crew. Rick was such an amazing spirit over the phone. Meeting Rick was such a warm felt welcoming. And not just him but from the other crew members as well. Honestly the whole entire crew was just phenomenal!!! We had Dive Master Susan as our guided and what a delight and welcoming she was. From the team setting everything up for us, to helping us in every way or shape, and for even having drinks and snacks on board. Honestly 100/100. I was SUPER SEA SICK. Such great customer service! My little dive crew is located more down south but it was worth the drive. The crew (scuba Joe, Mike, captain Collin, sorry if I'm missing anyone!) are funny and very welcoming, we had two amazing dives overall. When we first called to set up the dive, Bill, was so great and helpful. There's so much marine life out in Jupiter and the dive guides will point them out to you. They even give a simple run down of a sketched reef map before entering the water. What I really enjoyed was that you could drift away from the guide without him clacking at you, with a buddy of course. But I suggest staying with the guides because there are a lot of nooks and crannies they know about. Diving with the Kyalami boat crew was an amazing experience! They were as full-service as you could get. They carried the gear to the boat (I didn't have to lift a thing) and they all introduced themselves and were super welcoming, making it a point to pronounce my name correctly, which isn't always the case, even with people who are closer to me. On the boat, they set up my gear for me and, in the meantime, I was offered (various) snacks: fruit, chips, cookies, candied ginger (helps with the seasickness) water, ginger ale and sl-8-erade. The briefing was extremely thorough and the crew was always open to questions, ridding me of any uncertainties I had. The dive itself was beautiful. We were able to see three types of sharks: reef sharks, lemon sharks and nurse sharks and different kinds of turtles: loggerheads and leather backs. We also saw a ray, a puffer fish, eels and different schools of fish! I highly recommend diving with this charter, the whole experience was one of the best I've had, as far as diving goes. This business sets the bar for customer service. We went for a two tank on Friday 08/31 and on the way out the capt said we needed to turn back and something wasn't quite right with the motor. What a safe move rather than risk something while divers were in the water. It was just a fouled fuel filter and they changed it out and here's where they get really special! Bill tells all the divers we would still be going out for a single tank dive but that everyone qould get refunded for their dive. He also arrange to give everyone $10 for their troubles when they returned so they could have a refreshment at the Square Grouper. Unbelievable service and consideration! Just wanted to update my review. I've gone on numerous trips with Capt. SL8R Charters since the first review. I've also gone on a few tirps with other operators up and down the east coast of Florida and the keys. Most dive ops will get you to the reef and back safely, so I wanted to point out a couple of things that I like about Capt. SL8R charters. 1. Valet tanks/gear to the boat/from the boat. You don't have to carry your gear, and you don't have to pay extra for this service. 2. Fun atmosphere. While safety is the top priority, so is having fun. Fun comes in the form of joking/laughing/dancing crew members, and all kind of music (Depending on which day you go out). 3. A personal experience. I believe the crew goes out of there way to know what your personal likes/dislikes, how you like to dive, and what kind of interaction (on the boat and under water) that you prefer. 4. The boat - It's clean. Its wide (nice on rougher days). There are rails to hold on to everywhere (go on a boat that doesn't have as many things to hold onto on a rough day and you will definitely notice). The overall layout is good, with holders for spears, spear guns, camera buckets, mask buckets, coolers, etc. On other boats, my speargun gets tossed under a bench, where it bounces and slides around, on SL8Rs boat, it's strapped in a holder. 5. Coupons/Special offers. If you follow SL8R on facebook, he often offers discounted dives and promotional offers. This makes diving a lot more affordable. 6. If you call SL8R with questions, you may not get an answer right away, but if you leave a mesasge, you will get a return call every time. When I arrived from New York 3 years ago, I felt very happy to be leaving the Green Water and occasionally 'diving by Braille' experience on my favorite deepwater wrecks. I truly had no idea what I was in for except to know it would be warmer water with better vis. I happen to join a friend who introduced my to KYALAMI one day. I haven't been the same since. When you arrive they employ this concept of "concierge diving". If you're not quick, when you pull up to the tent in the parking lot, they will have your trunk or tailgate open and your gear halfway to the dock faster than an INDY pit crew! You see, Jared Slater built a dynasty through training, dedication, teamwork and customer service. I have never found its equal and I believe it is the best boat in all the West Palm Beach area. Now new owner Rick had the insight to change almost nothing and only wants to make it better. With great business acumen I can't wait to see this boat flourish come this spring when the warm water divers come back. Owing much to keeping Anne Hill as head divemistress.... everyone else who is new meets and exceeds the standards previously set forth. Janine & Max are as quick-witted as they are capable with the latter never missing an opportunity to break my chops. Last week I had the pleasure of being aboard Wednesday Thursday and Friday. For three days in a row I experienced a ton of laughs, crew that is like family, and the most professionally led dives ever. We had great seas that were practically Lake Atlantic. Based on good crew decisions and thorough knowledge of vis & conditions, I pulled up more Lobster than is usual for me this week! Brought my much loved girl friend to do her very 1st open ocean diving to Jupiter Florida. We dive mainly fresh water here in Maryland. They unloaded our gear and tanks, took it down to the boat, consistently asked if we needed anything, hauled our gear from the boat and loaded it back in our vehicle. If that wasn't enough, they had some awesome divemasters on board who gave great briefings, and able to point out the finer things along our dive. Love this boat! I am new to the sport of diving so a friendly face on a dive boat makes a world of difference to my experience. Every dive I have done with them they have gone above and beyond. I always joke I need a sherpa for my dive gear. Well they have them! No really they have full gear valet! (How to make a princess fall in love) The dives guides have always been experienced dive masters willing to go the extra mile. And for those times when things do not go well, like rough sea's and a bit of sea sickness they are right there with a can of ginger-ale in a second. (sorry about the boat). From night dives to Lazy Sundays they have engineered their own unique and branded culture and are more than happy to have customers add to it, in fact I made them some cupcakes for their awesomeness and called them Sl8R cakes! I flew in from CA for a last minute grad school interview and decided to do a bit of diving. I decided to go with Kyalami (despite being an hour and a half away) because of all the rave reviews. Best decision I could have made. Bill basically bent over backwards to get me squared away. He woke up Joe Smith (one of their instructors/guides) to get me a last minute Nitrox cert and offered to cover my fins fee so I didn't have to check a bag with my boots and fins. Joe was awesome. He made sure I was fully competent and ready to dive Nitrox (which I now think is a must at this depth - 50 min on Nitrox vs. 30 min on air) and helped keep my spirits up as I was throwing up port side (I get seasick easily). Per their advise I opted for a guide both days I dove with them. Again, another awesome decision. Anne was my guide and she was incredible. Super experienced and very safe. I can't say enough about her as a guide. I had a blast chatting with her out of the water and she did an incredible job making sure I saw as much as possible underwater (sharks, turtles, spiny lobster, goliath groupers, huge moray eels, etc!). The crew running this operation is world class. They go above and beyond to make sure you have the safest most enjoyable diving experience possible. Amazing scuba diving experience. The crew is the most helpful I've ever seen on a dive boat. They take all of your gear from you at your car and carry it all the way down to the boat for you and tanks are already on the boat. Everyone is also extremely friendly. The dive itself is also some of the best in Florida. There is so much marine life in Jupiter. You are almost guaranteed to see something cool! I went for spring break and saw lots of nurse and reef sharks, then came again in July and saw so many turtles I lost count! Also got to see some huge Murray eels and even dolphins on the boat ride! This is a first class dive operation in Jupiter Florida. Captain Slater is not only an exceptional Dive Boat Captain, but personable too. He was cracking jokes the while time over the PA. I came with a large group for the 4th of July weekend. So, we had the boat full to capacity with divers. This is the best way to judge a dive operation. For our group drift/wreck dive we all geared up, they cranked some lively music, and checked we were all ready to enter the water at once. Without a hiccup, all 20 of us got in. Although I was separated from the group, Captain Slater was right there to pick me up, following my lift bag. On a busy boat traffic weekend, this was priceless. After the dives they BBQ'd on the boat for us. What a great way to end the day! Lastly, they hauled my doubles on and off of the boat right to my car. Never have I had this level of service with a dive operation. They actually care about providing good service, what a refreshing change from being a number on the manifest. Bravo! I've been diving Palm Beach and Jupiter since getting certified in 1992. I have been on many boats, some that have long gone the way of the dodo. I first experienced Capt SL8R when he captained Blue Tang. The experience was one of the most enjoyable trips I have ever been on. My first introduction to Capt SL8R was three years ago when my wife and son wanted to get certified for diving and he was their instructor. I tagged along with them and he also did my NITROX certification at the same time. The water conditions were horrible for the open water dives. There was an upwelling and the water at depth was in the 60's. My son encountered a reverse block at 70 feet and having only been on the two sallow dives was in big trouble. Capt SL8R stayed with him while I took my wife to the surface. After a long time, they surfaced safely and they were able to clear the issue after a long time and I am grateful that Capt SL8R kept his head and everything was fine. After the bad experience, y wife and son were too apprehensive to do another dive that day. What does Capt SL8R do? He drives with us to Key Largo the following weekend so they can finish their Certifications later in a completely different environment that led to a love of diving for them!!!!!!!!! Capt SL8R brings fun to the whole dive boat experience, not just the in the water portion. The trip out is fun. The atmosphere is great and and the tunes are rockin'. Now that he has the Big Red Boat Kyalami, the experience has been amazing. The boat handles the seas well, looks great and is always clean. After every dive the crew serves up snacks and the ride home is a party! The Lazy Sunday is a party in its own right with dives and a lunch cruise up the Intracoastal. Ive been on the boat enough to know all the crew by name, Captain Cole is just awesome! Maggie and Connie are great crew. Always personable and always there to help. The dive masters are great guides and every trip I have been on is a perfect drop on the reef which is critical with drift dives. I simply will not dive with anyone else in Jupiter or Palm Beach. By far the best dive boat along the Florida coat. We have used different companies from Key West to Jupiter and every place along the way... But Capt. Sl8tr and his crew are the best. They are a full service dive company- they take your gear from the car to the boat and back again. If you ask them, they'll set up your gear for you. They do all the heavy lifting so that all you have to do is enjoy your dive. The boat, Kayalami, is always clean and well stocked. And this guy knows the reef systems like the back of his hand. He drops you right on top of the best spots, and is always right there to pick you up when your time is up.
