I got rotten shrimp mixed with fresh. People that handle seafood know when something has gone bad.

Great little place! Fresh seafood for a fraction of the price of red lobster. The crab was looking at me kind of sad though!

Great seafood selection & prices!…read more I came in town for my niece graduation at Duke and so glad I stumbled onto this place! I was in need of Maryland Blue Crabs for a Family BBQ & Graduation Celebration this weekend. I searched all around the Raleigh-Durham area and called around to several locations. Apparently, Maryland blue crabs are hard to come by and find around Raleigh. In steps Earps and so glad I discovered them. Had the best experience buying crabs from Earps! The staff was very helpful and easy to work with....ANDDD ... the prices were great.....$8.99/pound....$130/bushel. The selection was fresh mixed male and females crabs that you choose and can self-serve (pack) yourself or have them packaged for you. In addition, there is a wide selection of fresh fish and shellfish to choose from; including shrimp, scallops, clams and oysters. Forget high supermarket prices for frozen seafood. Come here and check this family owned business out. The establishment is very clean and staff is super friendly! Thanks Earp's for helping this DC- Maryland guy out --who knows good, fresh seafood and Maryland blue crabs when he see them....and these were it! The crabs purchased here were a hit. The family enjoyed them and it made the graduation celebration for my niece a success. Thanks Earps for saving the day. Highly recommend!

I recently purchased several pounds of red snapper and red drum. The selection--including snapper, drum, sea bass, scallops, shrimp, and additional varieties--was clearly displayed and all were fresh. The service was exceptionally efficient: after stating my requirements and preferred filleting method, the fish was prepared, wrapped, bagged, and ready for purchase within three minutes, despite a high volume of customers. I intend to continue patronizing Earp's when I am unable to return with my own catch.

The fresh seafood selection is huge - all local and regional, plus some Louisiana gems! I chose to eat fresh fried seafood, similar to what we call a "seafood platter". Today, 6/4/2025, I got a platter of 3 pieces of FRESH flounder, 6 or 8 oysters, about 1/3 pound of small shrimp, fried okra, boiled potatoes, hush puppies, and a refillable fountain drink... all fried to perfection! FOR $20, including tax!!!! This fry is perfect "American style". I did need hot sauce because we astoundingly season everything in Louisiana. Staff and customers were super friendly, especially, the sweet lady who moved to Raleigh from New Orleans. (She knew my name was "Baby"... LOL!!!) The family that owns this place and their employees are super nice. I ate my lunch with two of the fish guys. I'd eat here every day if I lived in Raleigh!

I grew up in New England and I got used to having great seafood available everywhere. I just…read moreassumed that unless you lived in Iowa or something that awesome fish could be had almost everywhere in this country, especially in a state that sits on the Atlantic ocean, but I was wrong. For the longest time I had been disappointed in every supermarket I had purchased fish from in Raleigh, including Harris Teeter's, Fresh Market & Whole Foods. Enter Scott Madden of Madden's Seafood. Scott's is a one or two man operation that opens up on Friday's between noon and 6:30 and Saturday's between 10:00-3:00 in a parking area off of Honeycutt Road, across from Lafayette Village. You have to place your order with him by phone or email by noon on Thursday and then he goes to the coast and brings back the freshest fish in town. He always has extra fish and shellfish on hand, but it's best to preorder to get exactly what you want. I stumbled upon Madden's Seafood while driving down the road one day a few years ago and saw the signs along the street advertising various types of fresh fish. I kind of chuckled the first time I saw the signs because I was relatively new to North Carolina and wondered why anyone would buy seafood from some guy on the side of the road when other retail options were available. That was before I had tried the fresh seafood from just about every market in the area and been disappointed by all of them. Finally after driving by Madden's Seafood for the third or fourth time I decided to stop in and take a look. What could it hurt to see what the guy had? It certainly couldn't be any worse than all the other stores nearby. That first visit was over four years ago and I have been exclusively going to Scott Madden for my fresh seafood ever since. It is by FAR the freshest fish available in the area. I love to cook. I'm a total foodie and I treat every meal like it was my last, so I want only the best. I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't found Madden's. My guess is that I just wouldn't be eating fish while I lived in Raleigh. I'd really rather go without than settle for a lower quality. So today is Thursday and I just got Scott's weekly email this morning listing all the fish that will be for sale tomorrow and Saturday. Here's a copy and pasted list of this week's posting: "Last Minute Catch: Lots of local fish this week. Sorry no Red Snapper or Drum. We can get Spots and Sea Mullet. They are sold whole. Local Yellowfin Tuna, Grouper, Trigger, Wahoo, Golden Tile, Black Sea Bass and Speckled Trout. We have some beautiful Jumbo fresh Shrimp. Great prices too. If anyone wants Lobster Tails let me know as soon as you can. Our Sweet Sea Scallops are awesome. No preservatives or Chemicals. Just fresh. The Oysters in the shell are from Stump Sound. I ate about 15 of them Saturday and they are delish. Good and salty. Check out below what is available and please have all orders in by noon today. It is without a doubt the best we've had anywhere. We also buy the tuna and the local shrimp regularly as well as the halibut, scallops and grouper. We have bought fish every Friday from Scott for the last four years and never been disappointed with the quality. So if you love fresh fish in particular, if you love great food in general, stop settling for the low grade stuff you buy at the chain markets and up your game to the finest seafood in the Raleigh area. Give Madden's Seafood a try.

We went with the Cajun wings and a seafood boil with king crab legs, shrimp, boiled eggs, potatoes, and corn. You can choose between different marinades and spice levels. We went with garlic butter and mild spice. I really wanted to try the shrimp fried rice but it was no longer available, I assume due to being sold out. Next time! Upon delivery, the food arrived very hot and smelled delicious. They ensure it's packaged so a leak doesn't occur. The wings were super crispy, flavorful, and delicious. The boil was a huge portion, truly fresh, flavorful, and delicious. You never know what you're going to get when you order seafood for delivery, but we were thoroughly impressed! The seafood boil and wings could feed two people I'd say. I can't wait to order again and absolutely will be. I will say the only downside is the price, it was about $160 for the boil and wings, but for a special occasion, absolutely worth it. I was debating between four and five stars but it was SO delicious and fresh, that I had to go with five.
