Came to pick up an order of chicken wings with shrimp lo mein, one gatorade & a can of sunkist. for 27 dollars i was expecting a decent portion of lo mein. Quality of the food is not the best either. For 27 dollars i could get two plates of what i just ordered and with 2 cans of soda any other chinese place! Please save your money and go spend it somewhere where they will give you fair portion of food for your money. Will not be coming back

I've had a hard time finding decent Chinese in the area. So far this one in the best. I've tried all the Chinese places in the quay.

Walking into the Khao Sen you'll feel like you've walked into a warm, intentional, and stylish restaurant. To be seated you'll first check in with the host and then be shown to your table. For drinks we ordered the mango passion fizz (mango, passion fruit, club soda) and the strawberry rose limeade (strawberry, rose, lime, club soda). Both looked nice presentation wise, but would definitely lean towards the mango passion fizz for the overall balance of flavors. For our appetizer we ordered a taste of all (vegetable gyoza, crispy krab sticks, crispy spring rolls, fried tofu, spicy chicken wings with side of each sweet chili sauce and sweet soy sauce) to be able to try most of the appetizers. Overall I would opt for the spicy chicken wings and pass on the other items. All of the appetizers were good but the spicy chicken wings were fried perfectly and had a great balance of spice/flavor. For entrees we ordered the Khao Soi (Northern Thai-style curry, egg noodles, crispy egg noodles, cilantro, scallion, pickled radish, shallots, lime) with chicken. The flavors were excellent and the chicken thigh was cooked to perfection. Almost if the chicken thigh was boiled or sous vide where it fell apart. We also ordered the Khao Pad (fried rice, egg, onion, Chinese broccoli, tomato, garlic, cucumber, cilantro, scallion) with sweet sausage which I wasn't sure if I would like but turned out to be excellent. The sweet sausage along with the flavors of the rice, broccoli, sweet onion, and egg made this dish one of my favorites. We were so full we couldn't make it to dessert but I heard the Thai Donuts with the Thai tea custard are excellent. If you are in the Fuquay-Varina area and are looking for good Thai food I definitely recommend stopping by Khao Sen. Looking forward to visiting again soon to try the other dishes.

There is a full plexiglass window separating the customers from the cashier. The kitchen is visible and every employee I saw was wearing a mask. They do provide hand sanitizer at checkout since you need to sign for credit transactions. I wasn't thrilled about touching the pens provided but at least they had hand sanitizer immediately available. The three customer I saw kept their distance and all wore masks. Masks are required for entry. The food was hot and delicious. I had chicken with garlic sauce and white rice. Hubs had sesame chicken. We also had veggie lo mein and wonton soup. Everything was expertly packaged in the takeout bag and reinforced with a sturdy cardboard bottom. Nothing leaked, at all. Big plus there. Great job Panda Garden and thanks for working to keep customers safe.

In addition, my husband ordered the pad Thai, which was completely unacceptable. It was bland, lacked any real sauce, and was served with lemon instead of lime. Even after bringing it to the manager's attention and having more sauce added, it made no improvement. Between the apparent food-related illness & poor food quality, this was a very negative experience. We will not be returning.

A nice perk of this spot is that it's just a stone's throw away from free and plentiful lot parking. I'd make a reservation if you plan to come here on a weekend for dinner. The place was bustling, with almost all the tables full. It's bright, airy and modern looking inside. Which makes it the perfect place for a date night or celebration spot. At the same time, it's not stuffy or overly fancy. The menu is comprehensive with Thai favorites like Pad Thai and Pad See Ew with a large number of Japanese and Sushi items on the back. My friends tried the Thai Spicy level and I will say it was pleasantly hot without burning your tongue off. I ordered the bento box and was really happy with the quality of the sashimi and nigiri. Everything was tasty, and the portions were more than satisfying. If I had to make a nit on something that I didn't love (it's hard!), I'd say that the rice texture wasn't my favorite. It was a little dry. But other than that, I would definitely consider it for another night out.

Holy!! We had expectations from all of the recommendations, but what a complete disappointment…read more First let's start with the only positive-- the waitress and her service was perfect. She was so kind and was the absolute best part of our visit. She gave a range recommendations, very professional, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the meal. We are coming from the Irvine, CA area so we VERY familiar with top tier Asian food and possibly that impacted our standards vs others in the review section. Now on to the rest, there were so many flies that I ended up having to smash them on the window with a napkin--just gross! Then, my son's food was not flavored well at all and had HAIR in his noodles! The Pad Thai was really bad! It was a lighter color first of all, so maybe they added an ingredient that isn't standard in traditional Pad Thai, but it did not make it better at all; I could barely stomach it. Then, there was a huge egg shell in the dish that somehow the cook let come out and served to us. The sweet and sour chicken portion was outrageously small for a dinner portion, and the dish was smothered with sauce but somehow the chicken was dry as if it was day old or several days old chicken. The cashew chicken, the same, dry chicken that was being covered up with the sauce and we had to chew a great deal. The sweet tea, it just tasted like they put a bunch of sugar packets in and was worse than a McDonald's sweet tea. Their white rice was not moist at all and we could've just done without it. Out of the sushi we ordered, the spicy tuna was good, but the rest was grocery store quality sushi and extremely small portion. In my opinion, people rave about this place because it is 'different' and plays into an upscale restaurant as you can see with their overpriced items. This place doesn't hold a candle to shopping center Thai fusion in California. I have lived in many states and am not a snotty Californian, but man oh man I can tell you this one is a fail. The only star for this visit goes to the waitress (she was a 5) but if I could give this a zero for the food, I would. Don't waste your time or money.

I went for dinner on a Saturday and it was packed so expect a slight wait at peak hours. Parking can also be tight as it is located downtown. We were seated quickly and our food came out FAST! Great service. My friend and I shared the Scallion Pancake, Bang Bang Shrimp, Dry-Sautéed Green Beans, and Spicy Crispy Fish. We definitely got one too many dishes, but I am glad we got to try them. The Scallion Pancake was solid. It had the right amount of thinness and flakiness. I would love to taste more scallion next time, though. I think that the sauce that it came with was a bit sweet and I would rather a more savory or saltier sauce to pair with the pancake. The Bang Bang Shrimp was under the appetizer category but it looked like an entree. Lots of small shrimp in a creamy, sweet, and spicy chili sauce. I loved it! The Dry-Sauteed Green Beans were probably my least favorite dish. I wish it had a taste (or more of a taste) of soy sauce or garlic, but it was still decent. The Crispy Spicy Fish is definitely one of the most popular dishes here and it lived it up to the hype! Not sure what seasonings were on the fish, but it tasted a bit salty, spicy, and savory. The fish also tasted fresh to me. We also received complimentary rice, which was needed with our savory dishes! I would definitely come back here in the future! There are so many options for food on their menu and almost everything was a hit. Plus, service was fantastic. I recommend going with a large group to do family style and really try a lot of the menu items.

We loved the retro, diner-style feel of the place, and everyone was friendly. My favorite, though, was our own server. She was very helpful when I inquired about the pad thai. She shook her head and told me "no," I should try the chicken ho-fun instead. I've never had a server do that, and she was right! It was huge, and had very wide rice noodles and lots of vegetables and chicken. The flavor was on the mild side (no spice), and reminded me a little of drunken noodles. My friend got the steamed shrimp dumplings (very good--he shared) and the chicken curry. The serving was huge with lots of crisp vegetables, and he enjoyed it, although he didn't find it spicy at all (our server said it would be). There was no parking out front on a Saturday afternoon, but there is a large garage around the corner that is free on the weekends.
