The design incorporated changes that really improved the look and "feel" of the access, and improved drainage away from my house. The work was done on time and on the proposed budget, which was about $20k. I'm looking forward to more projects with Design Exteriors in the future.

We installed a new deck, but needed…read morethat finishing touch of an awning to shield the deck (and Great Room) from that blazing afternoon summer sun. Enter Best Awning Company. I called them for an estimate. The owner, Tyler, happened to be finishing up an estimate in Parker and he was at our place within about 20 minutes. That is responsive! He looked over the area, took measurements, and reviewed our options, including brands, styles, features, colors, etc. We elected to go with the KE Durasol for the deck and a Sunsetter Easy Shade for the pergola. We opted to get the motorized version for both. Given the size of the awning we wanted, the product had to be ordered, but it was not a long wait, about 4 weeks (probably a little less). The crew showed up on time, were highly professional and did quality work. We even had to have some extra support work done given the span of our awning (pushing 20'). The crew engineered the proper solution and completed installation of the awning and the screen in about 4 hours. The product and quality of work was fantastic. As a side note, we had some high winds, resulting in a slight final adjustment. Tyler came out and made the adjustments himself and things have worked flawlessly ever since then. We are extremely pleased we went with the electric versions of the products as well as the products themselves. Tyler was very responsive, professional and helpful as was Teresa, coordinating everything from the office. The installation crew was top notch. I'd highly recommend them to anyone. Just so you know, I recommended them to my in-laws and they are extremely happy with their awning as well. (You know I have to like the product and company to recommend them to the in-laws. :D)

FBC's designer was the only one to spend time with us and talk with us about what we wanted in the space before coming up with some plans. We worked through a few iterations of the design and ended up with something we loved. Project Management - They laid out a plan for us from the start and stuck to the timeline. It went about as smooth as you can expect from a larger project. Of course there were unexpected items that cropped up from time to time, but the FBC team worked through it with us and we always came up with a resolution that worked for all parties. Construction - Every part of the construction was completed very well and the team took feedback from us along the way on anything we didn't understand or items we wanted changed. I definitely recommend them to anyone looking to finish their basement. We can't wait to use our new space for years to come.

Cons: there was a lot of staff turnover from design to finish and so we often needed to repeat certain decisions that had been made earlier on in the process but not recorded, or some things would even get done in construction that then needed to be corrected, due to dropped communication after a staff member left. That was frustrating, but in the end we had a finished space that we have been happy with over the last year+

I am very pleased with the finished project. It was a costly job but these guys earned every penny from ripping out the existing carpet to gluing down new floors to sanding and helping me choose the stain. They arrived on time, protected walls and closets from dust, left everything neat as a whistle and finished the job on the appointed day. I highly recommend them. I would not recommend Liftech based on my experience. The biggest concerns were the lack of proper…read moresubgrade preparation, the lack of transparency, and the difficulty getting clear, consistent answers throughout the process. I specifically chose and paid extra for high early cement because my goal was to regain access to my garage parking as soon as possible. I expected clear guidance on the product's performance and realistic timelines. Instead, I received conflicting information ranging from not being able to walk on the concrete for 48 hours to not being able to park on it for anywhere from 2-10 days. When I asked for clarification, the responses were vague. Liftech's production manager stated, "There are no specific specs for high early since it is mixed with concrete at the plant," and also said, "There is varying information because no concrete is created equally." I would expect concrete professionals and concrete plants to have more consistent information regarding the product being installed. Another major concern was the subgrade preparation. Liftech subcontracted the concrete work, and when the crew arrived, they did not even have a compactor onsite. I asked the workers if they planned to compact the subgrade, and based on their responses and actions, it did not appear that proper compaction was part of their plan until I contacted their Project Manager and requested that a compactor be brought to the site. A video documenting the work can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/YBubb-Wx-ac. In the video, it appears that only about 50% of the area was properly compacted, with some areas not compacted at all. The subbase also does not appear to have been watered down as part of the preparation process. The video speaks for itself regarding the preparation that was completed before the concrete was poured. For a project of this size and cost, I expected better communication, transparency, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, my experience left me questioning both the workmanship and the information provided throughout the process.
