Beautiful lake and state parks . We were there on a Sunday afternoon. Many families with kids were there playing in the beach . You need to pay $10 parking fee for your car so that you can enter the beach . It has one public restroom ( which is rare in these mountain areas) and has no water to wash hands because it is a chemical toilet . The view is beautiful, water crystal clear . A group of ducks were swimming towards us . They had no fear of human probably because no one tried to harm them before . The attitude is high there so oxygen is less than what we used to . First time experience coming up to June Lake for the weekend and it was such a lovely getaway. Shoutout to my friend for taking me and showing me around. I know for a lot of people this is a nostalgic place that they grew up coming to as kids and have kept the tradition alive coming every year and so on. June lake is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking during the winter when there is snow. My friend has come here all year round and definitely agreed coming in the winter is like a wonderland. It was well worth the 5 hour drive to see snow and be in a cold and beautiful environment. While I'm sure it's lovely in the spring and summer, I'm looking for something I don't have close to home (which would be snow) so I'd definitely consider coming back again in those winter months. June lake is such a sleepy and quiet little area, it's very relaxing and calm. I felt safe being there and navigating the downtown. It's super small as far as the downtown goes, only a handful of restaurants and motels. Great for a solo traveler or someone wanting to wander around by foot. The lakes and mountains surrounding this town are picturesque and stunning. Having been to mammoth and now June lake id say if you want something more relaxing and small town vibes I'd prefer June lake over mammoth. It's got less action but if you are looking to just get away, snowboard/ski, and recharge - this is the perfect vacation destination to check out. read more

I love spending my summers here! The parking lot gets packed, but there are other lots where you can park. The canoeing, paddleboarding, and swimming are so worth it! Beautiful views, clear waters, and an amazing time. I suggest bringing shaded umbrellas, a beach mat, a floaty, a hat, snacks, and trash bags to clean up after yourself. Two marinas that offer boat rentals. A jumping rock accessible by boats only. And some shore fishing spots. The town of June Lake is a quaint, unpretentious small town that is home to several mom and pop businesses. People tend to be friendly, but don't come up with your city antics. Be polite. A great spot in Mammoth! I can't wait to come back during the summer. It was pretty and relaxing at the end of November. There are picnic benches to sit at and bathrooms on site by the beach section. It's very beautiful and was peaceful when we went. I will definitely come back when boats are allowed back on the water. Keep that in mind that they close when it starts getting cold. June Lake is a hidden gem with a small population and few dining options. But that's what I loved about it! Luckily, it hasn't been over run by tourists and their prices are decent for the area. Its about 20-30 minutes north of Mammoth mountain. We did the lake loop drive and it was so nice and we were the only car on the road most of the drive. The views are spectacular at all hours of the days, especially sunset *heart eyes.* The drive up from Los Angeles was such a breeze, no whiny roads or sharp turns. I rather drive 5 hours here, than 2 hours upto Big Bear. We went the first weekend of November and after talking to the locals we got a better understanding of the area and how most places were closing up because its basically "off season," which started at the end of October. Most shops/restaurants open back up the week before Christmas, so we made it just in time to enjoy this beautiful lake before the snow. We weren't able to do any water activities because it was so windy, which made it feel colder than what it actually was but that didn't stop me from looking into dates for next year. read more

We've heard about June lake from some of the locals, so after a huge dinner we decided to come for a drive. Unless you are fishing or camping there isn't much you can do. Many campers on the higher grounds, so we were able to walk around the lake all to ourselves. Found a spot watch sunlight disappear. Gorgeous destination for a camping adventure with breathtaking views and clear night time sky for amazing star gazing. We enjoyed the bbq grills, convenient picnic tables and ample large space for the bear proof food storage. Our location had a beautiful view of the lake with enough shade and cover from the sun. Bathroom was clean and just a short walking distance with flush toilets and a sink. Just need to bring your own hand soap. My cousin and his wife booked the lot next to us which was neighbor friendly and made for a joyous experience. The grounds were challenging in that there were too many tree and dry bush stumps, large rocks and branches sticking out which makes for tripping to falling hazards. I had to keep my eyes on the ground the entire time when walking from place to place. I don't imagine all camping lots have this matter going on but ours did and night time roaming about was just challenging especially trying to walk my pup from place to place. Yosemite National park is not too far away so on our way home we decided to take the scenic drive through Yosemite and enjoyed the breathtaking experience! read more

June Lake and June Lake Loop is a really pretty drive especially during the fall season. This lake is surrounded by beautiful trees and mountains. The trees can change color to bright yellow and orange and sometimes even red. There are 4 main lakes around the loop including Gull, Silver, and Grant. You can fish here and rent out boats. It is beautiful. Must go between late September through the middle of October to catch the fall colors. You can also go up anytime at all to fish. read more

The lake itself is very beautiful and the place is wonderful, however, when my family wanted to go rent out a boat the people there were extremely rude. it was our first time on a boat and we didn't understand how to work it and they didn't explain how to. they also cussed my family out when trying to ask for help to dock the boat and was awful towards us. overall the please was nice but i dont recommend renting anything out over there. read more

June Lake - Lakes Near Me

We've been coming to June Lake for 32 years. It hasn't changed much over the years although the summer are much hotter than they used to be. June Lake is spring fed and is the deepest lake on the loop, so the water is typically colder than the rest. There's plenty of shore fishing although in most cases, you'll need to venture on a little hike to get to the good spots. The two main beaches on the eastern side of the lake can get quite busy during the summer and are accessed via the Oh! Ridge campground which is where we usually stay. There's a designated swimming area and you can walk out pretty far before getting deep. During peak season, you'll find kayak rentals down there too. Flush bathrooms, picnic tables, grills. But there's little shade so bring an umbrella. South the beach along the cliffs you'll find a nice trail to access those shore fishing spots I mentioned. Good size marina offers boat and pontoon rentals, slips and launch ramp. Nice place to relax there also and watch people clean their fish when they come in. More on the marina & store in that review. If you are driving up or down 395, it's worth taking the June Lake loop just to view the four lakes, the rivers connecting them and the gorgeous scenery all throughout. read more

My second favorite season next to winter is fall. Fall let's us know that the season is about to change bringing with it a chill in the air and the beautiful colors of the leaves that's the perfect background to Mother Nature's painting of a masterpiece. Several seasons ago, we visited Mammoth Lakes past Yosemite and made a detour to this gorgeous lake. I was stunned at the bright colors of the leaves leading to this lake and felt like I was in an Akira Kurosawa movie. My only regret was not stopping at that moment to capture the scenery on film, but I will have to enjoy by a glimpse from my memory just by closing my eyes to relive that spectacular day. It really did feel like a movie driving to this place and I can replay it in my mind in slow motion as we drove by under the canopy of bright hues of yellows and amber with a gentle breeze of the wind. Leaves are falling on the road and the deep blue sky as the backdrop made for quite the palette that will be etched in my subconsciousness as one of those happy moments in life. It's not true when they say you only live once. No, you live everyday and only die once. It is up to us to live every moment and enjoy the pleasures of what life has to offer. Yes, do stop and smell the roses, feel the breeze in our lungs, go out and look at the scenery for Mother Nature has quite an impressive brushstroke that she paints with all the colors of the earth at her disposal. She's quite the artist and it comes very "natural" for her. Fall brings out the High Definition of High Definitions and to witness it firsthand with 360 degrees of unobstructed views is a precious thing. June Lake is one of her canvas that she uses to showcase her talent and you never get to see the same show twice. The water that is reflected from the rich blue sky with the Sierra Mountains in the background is worth the price of admission alone if there was indeed a price to pay. But to capture this moment in time is priceless and that must be experienced as proof and a reminder to yourself to live. read more

Not sure why this lake is one of the more popular lakes in the area, but it was nice to visit! There is a town in June lake, convenient to grab a bite or stay near by. When visiting, don't go to the marina, as you will only be able to launch your boat from there and nothing more. There is a beach area of the opposite end of the lake. Camping is permitted and a 4x4 vehicle is needed to get to some parts of the lake/parking areas. The beach is nice, as there are lots of spots to settle down for the day. The small town only has a few places to stay and a handful of restaurants, but the scenery is second to none and if you like most anything to do with the outdoors, you will be in heaven. I wanted to take my Son, his Wife and 5 year old Grandson on a fun and well deserved vacation so we decided to go up to June Lake Loop for 5 days, my Son rented a trailer camper to make it as cumfy as possible, on of the things we look forward to was to rent a Pontoon boat on June Lake, so after getting settled in, we went over to June Lake Marina to rent a Pontoon boat, my grandson was so excited, at the Marina I was sold by the owner 3 days at a cost of $300.00 a day with a discount on the 3 rd , day for $150.00, so a total Of $750.00. This is where the fun ended upon us all getting on the Pontoon boat and ta king off, along with the fun ride of course we expected to do a little fishing, my Grandson has never experienced that, so we go to a calm spot on the lake and throw down the anchors on each end of the Pontoon, shortly after that we came to a rude awakening that we were adrift, anchors held nothing even in shallow water, we tried several spots on the lake close to the shore and same thing, if you got away from the shore the lake is 200 feet deep so no anchoring there, so we inquired at the Marina why we were having a problem stabilizing, anchoring the Pontoon, there response to us was a BIG NO! We have never had a problem with that, so with confusion and frustration because I just blew $300.00 for nothing we left and went back to camp. My Son and I decided it had to be something we were doing wrong (so the marina had us convinced) I was born and raised in Minnesota, land of 13,500 lakes I know water vessels and how to handle them, We went out again on the lake the next day it was calm as can be, we had the same problem as the day before, so we went back to the Marina and ask for help, they had no help, there was no problem, so we went out again and tried several different methods of anchoring the Pontoon, nothing worked. At that point we went back in and docked the Pontoon and I went the Marina store and explained our frustration, they basically told us we did not know what we were talking about, that no one had a problem, that there were many Pontoons on the lake that day and no one had a problem, my reply back to them was we were on the lake a long time and we only saw one Pontoon out there besides ours, we observed one other Pontoon and two fishing boats on the lake and that was it. So at that time I ask since we were having such a problem and didn't feel like all the money they charged us that it was satisfactory, there response back was NO, they really didn't even want to discuss it, so at that time I told them we would not be back for the 3 rd , day that we paid for and could we at least get $150.00 back, same response saying pretty much no not going to happen, so I as Ok since we are not going to be here, we canceled the 3 rd , day what are you going to do just rent it out to someone else? Their response back? Yup, so feeling really like we got ripped off we decided to do the report because I feel we did not receive what we paid for, we were totally dissatisfied and they would not even consider helping us in any way. Before leaving the Marina attendance My Son actually offered the attendance $200.00 to take the time, go out on the Pontoon and show us what we were doing wrong, but they swiftly declined and actually laughed about it. After going back to our camper Tailor, we started talking to others camped near us and to our surprise 3 other people individually popped up and said they had the same problem with the Pontoon that the lake was to deep, had an under current and the anchors were no adequate to stabilize there Pontoon boats, all 3 complained and got the same result as we did, we got your money now leave, so they know exactly what's going on and don't care, one of the campers told me he ever tried to throw the anchor up on the shore to anchor it and the anchor was so small and cheap it shattered into pieces, also there was another family that was out on the Pontoon, tried to anchor and it drifted to close to shore and got marooned/dry docked, they said they received very negative response and help from the marina like it was to much trouble to help someone that only paid $300.00 for the day. If you go on Yelp you will find many complaints like ours and sad to say nothing will be done about it, like one person said, all the 5 star reviews are written by June Lake employees. Last but not least I would put this in any review on June lake shore fishing, News Flash there might be about 300 feet of available shore to fish from and that it right next to the marina on the right side, on Wed, we watched a truck back down to the lake and dump the trout in, at the same time we see about 30 residence lined up along the shore line right beside the truck stocking the lake and they were pulling the fish out left and right, I ask at the Marina why this was happening, why a bigger share of the fish were being caught before they even get into the lake, Yea that is kind of cheating laughingly read more

You will want to make stops along the drive, I assure you. Maybe then consider the area for a relaxing weekend. My family took me to June Lake when I was 6 months old and we've been going about every year since..... I've enjoyed swimming - just be sure to go at high noon as it can be cold any time of year to get in as its a high altitude lake. Boating on the lake is fun - gorgeous views of the Sierra Mountains. We've camped at June Lake at the private campground (not at Oh Ridge where the winds can kick up). Its a fun place to go. And of course trout fishing is fun to do here (we've caught our limits ---and of course sometimes not. (oh well). Picnics are also fun here. There is also a volleyball court. read more

Incredible quaint town, a great place to experience nature with tons of amazing views. I came when the lake was completely frozen and people were ice skating and playing hockey. Even though there are hotels in Mammoth 25 miles away, if you'd like to stay in a cabin close to June Lake I recommend Aspen Meadows. 2-car garages protect the cars over night from the snow.
