Lake Mary

Mammoth Lakes has so many killer lakes and spots to hike or enjoy almost any outdoor activity you can imagine. We stopped at Lake Mary while taking a drive after our last hike and this is a spot where you can actually camp at. I'm not sure what the rates are but there were a lot of people out enjoying fishing, canoeing and walking the trails (even if it was absolutely freezing in June). The beauty of this place really cannot be captured in photos. It must be seen and experienced and enjoyed with people you love.

Great Lake for fishing but be aware there are bears walking the shoreline fishing too. There is camping, fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating, and hiking trails. So much to do in such a beautiful area. Very close to the other lakes.

I enjoyed visiting the Mary lakes at mammoth lakes with my family last weekend. Also, I've been waiting for my first time vacation from my permanent job in 3 years. It's very peaceful and calming down from my stress at my job schedule. I liked fishing from the shoreline of the lakes. I only got 2 rainbow trouts from my dinner plate and it taste sweet. Lastly, I'll recommend this to my friends and family.

**** I would suggest calling Lake Mary Marina and store to confirm hours and boat rental availability*** Mammoth has been really packed with people and not everything is operating normal hours due to COVID.

I haven't been here in over 15+ years and it's just as beautiful as I remember. Great little lake to do some fishing, boating, kayaking and paddle boarding. It was rough waters when we came in the late afternoon but it sure was gorgeous.

Went camping here and it was a good experience. The camp hosts did a great job of keeping the bathrooms clean and making sure the toilet paper was stocked. The area itself is nice for camping. Beware of bears. We did see one and he stole all of the food from the neighboring campsite. But the bear did not bother us luckily. Make sure to keep your food in the bear boxes!

I took my boyfriend here last weekend for his birthday to go fishing and we had a blast! It was a beautiful lake!! And we caught 4 fish without too much trouble! The lake is stocked every Thursday during fishing season! The views are just breathtaking! I would absolutely recommend visiting!

It's a must go when in mammoth. Last visit between 4 of us were able to catch 7 fish the first day around late afternoon and 17 fish the next day in the morning. I was happy to find out to I had caught a brookie. The rainbows were decent sized, we let go of about 7 fish because they were too small. The stock dates are on the white board outside of the marina.

I usually come to Mammoth during the winter to snowboard, but this is a nice change of weather and scenery.

My cousin even had a close call when he accidentally slid off the trail, ran down 100 feet, and narrowly missed hitting trees. (Slipper snow) Despite the challenges, the reward at the top was well worth it. It was a beautiful, secluded lake. Some of us tried a little fishing, while the girls jumped into the freezing cold water for a swim. The water was so "pristine" that my hair felt conditioned afterward. It was magnificent, the water felt untouched and almost holy! This past summer, we hiked it again for the 4th of July, and it was so much easier because I had lost 20 pounds, haha! I'd say the hike is about 13 minutes up, around 2 miles round trip, and great for all ages. Just make sure you're in decent shape and don't have any serious health concerns. When I was 20 pounds heavier, the hike felt like a 10/10 in difficulty. Now, it's more like a 3/10, a total breeze!

Really easy to get to, no mosquitos, and not crowded at all. An older gentleman there who I think…read morewas an off duty park Ranger or something told us all about the fault, cases of people falling in, and what to look out for, etc. He said it's more impressive looking from the other side of the main road (going from Mammoth Lakes to Mammoth Mountain), though we couldn't find any signs or trailheads for this part afterwards. Nonetheless this is a pretty neat, quick stop with no hike required to get to it.

Based on the photos, I was expecting this to be more like a cliff with a tall crack in it. In reality, it's more like a very long ditch. If you're into geology, or if you're super impressed by thinking about the earth splitting open, then maybe you should check this out. Personally, I wasn't very moved by this experience. If you didn't know that this was an earthquake fault, then there would be nothing impressive about it. It's just a very long gorge that is kind of deep in some places. I'm not sure if rappelling into the fault is allowed, but I thought it would be interesting to get a closer up view of some of the rocks and pools on the bottom. Honestly not really worth driving out of your way to see this unless you happen to be a geology fanatic, or are just dead set on seeing every possible sight near Mammoth.
